The use of titanium dioxide nanoparticles (nTiOb>2b>) is gaining interest in agriculture because of their impact on many aspects of plant growth. The present study examines the effects of nTiOb>2b> (5 nm and 10 nm) applied to seeds and the seedlings as a foliar application on various aspects of growth characteristics and biomass accumulation in lettuce (Lactuca sativa, cv. grand Rapids). Application of 10 nm nTiOb>2b> to seeds through imbibition resulted in a significant reduction in shoot biomass accumulation while 5 nm nTiOb>2b> did not affect the biomass accumulation in lettuce. The application of 10 nm nTiOb>2b> reduced the fresh shoot biomass accumulation by about 18% compared to the control plants. Other growth characteristics such as shoot dry biomass, root fresh and dry biomass, plant height, and leaf area were not affected by the application of both 5 nm and 10 nm nTiOb>2b>. In addition, foliar application of these nanoparticles to the lettuce seedlings did not have a significant effect on most of the growth parameters examined, and the increasing concentration ranging from 5 nm/L to 400 mg/L did not produce a consistent response in lettuce. Thus, nTiOb>2b> application to lettuce seeds had a notable negative impact on shoot growth while foliar application did not have a significant effect on many plant growth characteristics. However, foliar applications produced some symptoms of toxicity to the foliage in the form of necrotic or chlorotic patches on the leaves, which were more pronounced with increasing concentrations of both 5 nm and 10 nm nTiOb>2b>. However, these symptoms were apparent at a concentration as low as 50 mg/L of nTiOb>2b>. Thus, foliar application of nTiOb>2b> may not have a significant impact on many of the growth characteristics in lettuce, but it can result in foliar toxicity.

The cropping system is based on traditional farming in rural areas. In this way, yields of some food crops like yam are very low considering their high need for nutrients. The nutrient-rich land is under high land pressure as it is occupied by cash crops such as oil palm and rubber at the expense of food crops and soil fertility is declining. The study was conducted in grand-Lahou to assess the effect of organic matter provided by legumes in increasing yam yield. The randomized complete block design included four (4) treatments: Arachis hypogaea + yam association (T1), Acacia mangium + yam association (T2), Arachis + Acacia mangium + yam association (T3) and pure yam crop (T0). The parameters measured were: the soil nutrients content, the rate of mineralization of organic matter through the C/N ratio as well as the yield of yam through different techniques that allowed the objective of the study to be achieved. It was noted a slight improvement of nitrogen and organic carbon in all treatments with a higher value recorded in the T2 treatment. The C/N ratio decreased to 12 in all treatments compared to the control, which reflects a normal decomposition of the organic matter. Treatment T1 increased yam yield (8.4 t/ha) in contrast to treatments T2 (4.1 t/ha) and T3 (2.8 t/ha). legume-based treatments T2 and T3 were associated with a significant decrease in yam yield, resulting in losses of −46.34% to −25.09%, while treatment T1 resulted in a gain of 28.57%. As a result, the treatments involving legumes contributed to normalizing the organic matter content of the soil. The simultaneous association of these two legumes led to a decrease in yam production, contrary to the treatment associating only groundnut.

The quantification of carbon storage in vegetation biomass is a crucial factor in the estimation and mitigation of CO2 ***,arid and semi-arid regions are considered an important carbon ***,they have received limited attention and,therefore,it should be a priority to develop tools to quantify biomass at the local and regional *** plant variables,such as stem diameter and crown area,were reported to be good predictors of individual plant ***-level variables,such as plant cover and mean height,are also easy-to-measure estimators of above-ground biomass(AGb)in dry *** this study,we estimated the AGb in semi-arid woody vegetation in Northeast Patagonia,*** evaluated whether the AGb at the stand level can be estimated based on plant cover and to what extent the estimation accuracy can be improved by the inclusion of other field-measured structure *** also evaluated whether remote sensing technologies can be used to reliably estimate and map the regional mean *** this purpose,we analyzed the relationships between field-measured woody vegetation structure variables and AGb as well as LANDSAT TM-derived *** obtained a model-based ratio estimate of regional mean AGb and its standard *** plant cover allowed us to obtain a reliable estimation of local AGb,and no better fit was attained by the inclusion of other structure *** stand-level plant cover ranged between 18.7%and 95.2%and AGb between about 2.0 and 70.8 Mg/hm^(2).AGb based on total plant cover was well estimated from LANDSAT TM bands 2 and 3,which facilitated a model-based ratio estimate of the regional mean AGb(approximately 12.0 Mg/hm^(2))and its sampling error(about 30.0%).The mean AGb of woody vegetation can greatly contribute to carbon storage in semi-arid ***,plant cover estimation by remote sensing images could be used to obtain regional estimates and map biomass,as well as to assess and monitor the i

We report the confirmation of a sub-Saturn-size exoplanet,TOI-1194 b,with a mass of about 0.456+0.055-0.051M_(J),and a very low mass companion star with a mass of about 96.5±1.5 MJ,TOI-1251 *** candidates provided by the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite(TESS)are suitable for further follow-up observations by ground-based telescopes with small and medium *** analysis is performed based on data from several telescopes worldwide,including telescopes in the Sino-German multiband photometric campaign,which aimed at confirming TESS Objects of Interest(TOIs)using ground-based small-aperture and medium-aperture telescopes,especially for long-period ***-1194 b is confirmed based on the consistent periodic transit depths from the multiband photometric *** measure an orbital period of 2.310644±0.000001 days,the radius is 0.767+0.045-0.041RJ and the amplitude of the RV curve is 69.4_(-7.3)^(+7.9)m s^(-1).TOI-1251 b is confirmed based on the multiband photometric and high-resolution spectroscopic data,whose orbital period is 5.963054+0.000002-0.000001days,radius is 0.947+0.035-0.033 R_(J) and amplitude of the RV curve is 9849_(-40)^(+42)ms^(-1).

In a local context, sustainable development entails utilizing the current resources—material and immaterial, measurable and immeasurable, popular and unpopular—of the community in a manner that avoids overexploitation and ensures intergenerational equity. This approach prioritizes the safety and health of local citizens, placing communal productivity above corporate profitability. This research aims to assess air quality surrounding 28 chemical industry sites in baton Rouge, Louisiana, to understand the environmental and health impacts of industrial pollutants, with a focus on environmental justice. Air quality pollutants, including PM2.5, PM10, O3, NO2, CO, and SO2, were monitored for 75 days during the Summer, using the breezoMeter app. Python, Mapize, and QGIS software technologies were utilized for data analysis and visualization. Findings indicate a reduction in NO2 and CO levels, compared to existing literature. However, the persistent challenge of particulate matter suggests areas for further environmental management efforts. Additionally, the research suggests a significant disparity in air pollution exposure, probably affecting marginalized communities. Although the nature of the study might not fully capture annual pollution trends, the findings highlight the urgent need for the chemical industry to adopt efficient production methods and for policymakers to enhance air quality standards and enforcement, particularly in pollution-sensitive areas. The disproportionate impact of air pollution on vulnerable communities calls for a more inclusive approach to environmental justice, ensuring equitable distribution of clean air benefits and community involvement in pollution management decisions.

俯冲的大陆岩石圈在大陆碰撞后仍然对地表板块施加拖拽作用,使造山作用得以维持.但是大陆碰撞作用最终为何减弱乃至停止,目前存在多种解释.本文利用覆盖青藏高原的流动地震观测数据,进行地震层析成像研究,在地慢过渡带中识别出多个高地震波速度异常,认为它们是俯冲印度大陆岩石圈断离形成的碎片.俯冲板片会不断沿大陆岩石圈内部的先存薄弱带断离,该过程将持续减小俯冲岩石圈的板片拖曳力,进而导致中新世印度-欧亚板块汇聚速率降低.据此推断,俯冲大陆板片持续断离将导致印欧大陆碰撞和喜马拉雅造山作用最终结束.

本文叙述了最近关于上地幔不均匀性的地震学证据。地震学家们在关于上地幔结构低阶球谐展开的看法正逐步趋于一致的同时,关于短和中等波长特征仍存在激烈的争议。局部地壳研究也证明了所有可分辨尺度范围内上地幔为非均匀的,全球模型低估了波速异常幅值。一些重要问题悬而未决:(1)消减板片的结局;(2)扩张中心下面的低速带深度范围;(3)热点产生的深度。近年来,通过对波形观测资料的分析,我们对上地幔总体径向分层有了更明确的认识。这些观测来自新一代宽频带数字地震台站以及空间上的高密度分布的窄频带地震台阵。然而,关于平均径向结构方面的重要问题仍然存在。大陆下面的低剪切波速带图象已很详细,Jordan 构造圈假说已由区域一维和全球层析研究得到充分证实。但它不能清楚地显示出什么范围低剪切波速和低压缩速度匹配。各向异性,由于使人信服证据存在于剪切波分裂观测中,因此将对确定低速带形状起作用。在软流圈下部,大约220 km处存在的 lehmann 间断面作为全球特征是靠不住的,但520 km 处相交的早期显示已在地震波叠加截面中发现了一些证据。在现代消减带附近的较深部位已观测到低速异常带,甚至在古缝合带下方也曾观测到。目前地震波分析方面的进步由地震仪器的两种重要进展所带动:(1)全球宽频带地震台的安置;(2)地震台网中台站密度的增加。将来的进步将很可能依赖稠密地震台网的扩大,包括临时的和可移动式的台站;依赖我们增加海洋地区台站的覆盖能力和依赖于计算非均匀地球模型的波形正演问题提高到容许非线性最优化的有效水平。
