Field efficacy of insect pathogen, botanical, and jasmonic acid for the management of wheat midge Sitodiplosis mosellana and the impact on adult parasitoid Macroglenes penetrans populations in spring wheat

The wheat midge, Sitodiplosis mosellana, is a serious pest of wheat worldwide. In North America, management of S. mosellana in spring wheat relies on the timely application of pesticides, based on midge adults levels caught in pheromone traps or seen via field scouting during wheat heading. In this context, biopesticides can be an effective alternative to pesticides for controlling S. mosellana within an Integrated Pest Management program. A field study using insect pathogenic fungus beauveria bassiana GHA, nematode Steinernema Jeltiae with barricade polymer gel 1%, pyrethrin, combined formulations of b. bassiana GHA and pyrethrin, Jasmonic acid (JA) and chlorpyrifos (chemical check) was performed to determine to which extent they affect midge larval populations, kernel damage levels, grain yield, and quality, and the impacts on adult parasitoid Macroglenes penetrans populations. The results indicated that biopesticides JA and S. Jeltiae were the most effective in reducing larval populations and kernel damage levels, and produced a higher spring wheat yield when compared to the water control at both study locations (East Valier and North Valier, Montana, USA). Increased test weight in wheat had been recorded with two previous biopesticides at East Valier but not for North Valier, when compared over water control. These results were comparable in efficacy to the chlorpyrifos. This study also suggested that b. bassiana and pyrethrin may work synergistically, as exemplified by lower total larval populations and kernel damage levels when applied together. This study did not demonstrate the effect of any treatments on M. penetrans populations.

As more electric utilities and transmission system operators move toward the smart grid concept,robust fault analysis has become increasingly *** paper proposes a methodology for the detection,classification,and localization of transmission line faults using Synchrophasor *** technique involves the extraction of phasors from the instantaneous three-phase voltages and currents at each bus in the system which are then decomposed into their symmetrical *** components are sent to the phasor data concentrator(PDC)for real-time fault analysis,which is completed within 2–3 cycles after fault *** advantages of this technique are its accuracy and speed,so that fault information may be appropriately communicated to facilitate system *** proposed algorithm is independent of the transmission system topology and displays high accuracy in its results,even with varying parameters such as fault distance,fault inception angle and fault *** proposed algorithm is validated using a three-bus system as well as the Western System Coordinating Council(WSCC)nine bus *** proposed algorithm is shown to accurately detect the faulted line and classify the fault in all the test cases presented.

5-Fluorouracil Loaded Chitosan–PVA/Na^+MMT Nanocomposite Films for Drug Release and Antimicrobial Activity

In the present study, chitosan and polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) were blended with different concentrations of sodium montmorillonite(Na^+MMT) clay solution by a solvent casting method. X-ray diffraction and transition electron microscope results show that the film properties are related to the co-existence of Na^+MMT intercalation/exfoliation in the blend and the interaction between chitosan–PVA and Na^+MMT. 5-Fluorouracil(5-FU) was loaded with chitosan–PVA/Na^+MMT nanocomposite films for in vitro drug delivery study. The antimicrobial activity of the chitosan–PVA/Na^+MMT films showed significant effect against Salmonella(Gram-negative) and Staphylococcus aureus(Gram-positive), whereas5-FU encapsulated chitosan–PVA/Na^+MMT bio-nanocomposite films did not show any inhibition against bacteria. Our results indicate that combination of a flexible and soft polymeric material with high drug loading ability of a hard inorganic porous material can produce improved control over degradation and drug release. It will be an economically viable method for preparation of advanced drug delivery vehicles and biodegradable implants or scaffolds.

The basic concept of this research is to analyse the approximate controllability(AC)of a nonlinear delay integrodifferential evolution system(NDIDES) with random impulse of the type■by assuming that the linear system is approximately controllable. The existence and uniqueness of the mild solution to above system have been determined by using the banach contraction principle and trajectory accessible sets. We generalize the results for NDIDES with and without fixed-type impulsive moments.

Objective:To study the antioxidant efficacy of Commiphora mukul(***) gum resin ethanolic extract in streptozotocin(STZ) induced diabetic ***:The male Wistar albino rats were randomly divided into four groups of eight animals each:Control group(C),CM-treated control group(C_+CMEE),Diabetic control group(D),CM- treated diabetic group(D_+CMEE).Diabetes was induced by intraperitoneal injection of STZ(55 mg/kg/ bwt).After being confirmed the diabetic rats were treated with *** gum resin ethanolic extract(CMEE) for 60 *** biochemical estimations like antioxidant,oxidative stress marker enzymes and hepatic marker enzymes of tissues were ***:The diabetic rats showed increased level of enzymatic activities aspartate aminotransaminase(AST),alanine aminotransaminase(ALT) in liver and kidney and oxidative markers like lipid peroxidation(LPO) and protein oxidation(PO) in pancreas and heart. Antioxidant enzyme activities were significantly decreased in the pancreas and heart compared to control *** of CMEE(200 mg/kg bw) to diabetic rats for 60 days significantly reversed the above parameters towards ***:In conclusion,our data indicate the preventive role of *** against STZ-induced diabetic oxidative stress;hence this plant could be used as an adjuvant therapy for the prevention and/or management of diabetes and aggravated antioxidant status.

In the present work,multi walled carbon nanotubes(MWCNT)reinforced magnesium(Mg)matrix composite was fabricated by friction stir processing(FSP)with an aim to explore its mechanical and electrochemical *** observations showed that the thickness of the produced composite layer was in the range of 2500μ*** resulted uniform distribution of CNT near the surface while agglomerated layers in the *** refinement of Mg achieved by FSP improved the hardness but significant enhancement in the hardness value was observed for FSPed MWCNT/Mg *** polarization studies revealed that the increase in corrosion current density was observed for MWCNT/Mg composite compared with grain refined Mg and pure Mg,implying the significance of secondary phase(MWCNT)in decreasing the corrosion resistance of the composite.

A database for the seismicity of the Tehri region (29.5˚N - 31.5˚N and 77.5˚E - 79.5˚E) from November 1, 1853, to March 31, 1989, has been prepared using a Compatible Personal Computer System. The seismicity database is complete for events with mb ≥ 4.5 only since 1963. It is inferred that the general seismicity of the area is considerably low, which is associated with four main tectonic features identified based on the spatial distribution of events in the area. Earthquakes in the Tehri area is of shallow focus, and maximum seismic activity is confined in the region beyond 60 km east and northwest of Tehri. The cumulative Number of Events as a Function of Time (CNET) for the period from 1963 to 1988 has indicated that precursory swarms do not precede the medium-sized earthquakes of the Tehri area. However, the CNET curves for total events and those with mb ≥ 4.6 have indicated a sharp 2-fold seismicity rate increase from 1986 compared to the preceding period. The October 20, 1991 (IST) earthquake of mb = 6.5 of Uttarkashi is believed to be associated with this seismicity rate change. The continuous increasing trend of the CNET curve before 1986 has been attributed to the detection changes.

AIM:To study the potential association between hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)in patients with chronic hepatitis C(CHC),cirrhosis and latent hepatitis b(LHb)infection,defined as the absence of detectable serum hepatitis b surface antigen(HbsAg)and the presence of hepatitis b core antibody(HbcAb).METHODS:This retrospective analysis is comprised of 185 cirrhotic patients with HCC who were hepatitis C virus antibody(HCV Ab)(+)and HbsAg(-)at Wayne State University between 1999 and *** these,108 patients had HCV polymerase chain reaction confirmation of viremia while the remaining(77)were considered to have CHC on the basis of a positive HCV Ab and the absence of any other cause of liver *** were drawn from our institutional database from the same time period and consisted of 356 HbsAg(-)age,race and gender matched patients with HCV RNA-confirmed CHC and without evidence of HCC.A subgroup of controls included 118matched patients with liver cirrhosis.χ2test and t test were used for data ***:Seventy-seven percent of patients in all3 groups were African *** with HCC had a significantly higher body mass index(P=0.03),a higher rate of co-infection with human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)(P=0.05)and a higher prevalence of alcohol abuse(P=0.03)than the *** patients with HCC had LHb than controls(78%vs39%,P=0.01).Sixty three percent of patients with HCC were both hepatitis b surface antigen(HbsAb)(-)and HbcAb(+)compared to 23%of controls(PbcAb(+)remained higher in patients with HCC(78%vs 45%,P=0.02).Patients with HCC were more likely to be both HbsAb(-)and HbcAb(+)than the cirrhotic controls(63%vs 28%,P=0.01).Although not statistically significant,100%of CHC and HIV coinfected patients with HCC(n=11)were HbcAb(+)when compared to controls(44%;n=9).CONCLUSION:These data suggest that LHb occurs at a significantly increased frequency in patients with CHC and HCC than in
