Impact of Dredging on Sediment of Krishnapatnam Port, East coast of India： Implications for Marine biodiversity

This paper synthesizes the extent and nature of scientific information about how dredging activities potentially affect habitats and key ecological functions supporting recruitment and sustainability of estuarine and marine environment. Fourteen samples were collected after dredging （2008） from fixed sampling stations. The impact on community was estimated at species level （Foraminifera, Protozoan, using statistical analysis）. The maximum negative effect on benthic foraminifera was reduction by 60%, for species richness and by 50% for diversity. This data were compared with the data obtained before dredging （2006） in a time services spanning 2 years. Its revealed that reestablishment of directly with in less than 3 months of the end of dredging, although affected foraminifera and of physico-chemical substrate characteristic 2 years later there was a considerable improvement of whole faunal community. Statistical treatment was given to the data sets to know the relation among parameters. before, this type of activity is undertaken, each case should be studied regarding viability, the environmental medium where it will take place, the best time of year, and the type of dredging to be used. Small-patch dredging operations are proposed when ever possible, since they allow a quick readjustment of the initial sediment structure and benthic foraminifera. These findings will help to underpin improved planning of management strategies for dredging operations in India and other countries.

Swarnamukhi is an east flowing river having a total length of 130 km. This is an inde- pendent river which rises at an elevation of 300 m in the eastern Ghats ranges near Pakala village in chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, India. This study was carried out using multitemporal satellite images of IRS P6 LISS-III and Landsat 80LUTIRS data from 2011 to 2015. The subsequent short term river mouth dynamics, coastal erosion and accretion rates have been calculated for the years between 2011 and 2015. Low river inflow, wind, tides, movement of the waves and littoral currents play a key role in the dynamic activities of erosion and accretion. The erosion rate from 2011 to 2015 was slightly decreased from 0.081 to 0.027 km2. The total net rate of accretion was estimated at 0.438 km2. The study shows during last five years （2011-2015） accretion is more than the erosion. High fluctu- ation of erosion and accretion are characteristics for the short term scale at river mouth.

Anthropogenic emissions have greatly influenced UV-b radiation incidence and cO_(2)concentration *** interactive effects of projected incidence on crops by the end of the century need to be studied to understand the *** use of sunlit plant growth chambers in combination with UV-b radiation and cO_(2)treatments was used to identify the individual and interactive effects on basil'Genovese'*** included 0 and 10 kJ m−2 d−1 UV-b supplementation at ambient(437 ppm)or elevated(725 ppm)cO_(2)*** of UV-b by cO_(2)interactions existed for net photosynthesis,light-adapted maximal quantum efficiency,all plant pigment concentrations,and ***-b increased leaf temperature by approximately 1°c while elevated cO_(2)concentrations amplified superoxide dismutase and ascorbate peroxidase activity in basil *** deleterious impacts on plant health,UV-b radiation is essential for stimulating healthful compounds in *** the effects when combined with elevated cO_(2)is necessary to improve crop production and future research.
