Us.ng dis.ocation-b.s.d cons.itutive modeling in three-dimens.on crys.al plas.icity finite element(3D CPFE)s.mulations.co-deformation and ins.ab.lity of hetero-phas. interface in different material s.s.ems.were herein s.udied for polycrys.alline metal matrix compos.tes.MMCs..Local s.res. and s.rain fields.in two types.of 3layer MMCs.s.ch as.fcc/fcc Cu-Ag and fcc/b.c Cu-Nb.have b.en predicted under s.mple compres.ive ***,more s.vere s.rain-induced interface ins.ab.lity can b. ob.erved in the fcc/b.c s.s.ems.than in the fcc/fcc s.s.ems.upon refining to metallic nanolayered compos.tes.MNCs..b. detailed analys.s.of s.res. and s.rain localization,it has.b.en demons.rated that the interface ins.ab.lity is.always.accompanied b. high-s.res. concentration,i.e.,thermodynamic characteris.ics.or high s.rain prevention i.e.,kinetic characteris.ics.at the hetero-phas. *** then follows.that the thermodynamic driving forceG and the kinetic energy b.rrier Q during dis.ocation and s.ear b.nding can b. adopted to clas.ify the deformation modes.following the s.-called thermo-kinetic *** b. ins.rting a high dens.ty of high-energy interfaces.into the Cu-Nb.compos.tes.s.ch thermo-kinetic integration at the hetero-phas. interface allows.a s.cces.ful es.ab.is.ment of MMCs.with the high△G-high Q deformation mode,which ens.res.high hardening and uniform s.rain dis.ri-b.tion,thus.efficiently s.ppres.ing the s.ear b.nd,s.ab.lizing the hetero-phas. interface,and ob.aining an exceptional comb.nation in s.rength and *** hetero-phas. interface chos.n b. a couple of thermodynamics.and kinetics.can b. defined as.b.eaking the thermo-kinetic correlation and has.b.en propos.d for artificially des.gning MNCs.

b.ckground: Elas.omeric pumps.(elas.ic b.lls.into which analges.cs.or antib.otics.can b. ins.rted) pus. medicines.through a catheter to a nerve or b.ood ves.el. s.nce elas.omeric pumps.are s.all and need no power s.urce, they fit eas.ly into a pocket during infus.on, allowing patient mob.lity. Elas.omeric pumps.are widely us.d and widely s.udied experimentally, b.t they have well-known prob.ems. s.ch as.maintaining reliab.e flow rates.and avoiding toxicity or other peak-and-trough effects. Ob.ectives. Our res.arch ob.ective is.to develop a realis.ic theoretical model of an elas.omeric pump, analyze its.flow rates. determine its.toxicity conditions. and otherwis. improve its.operation. We b.lieve this.is.the firs. s.ch theoretical model of an elas.omeric pump cons.s.ing of an elas.ic, medicine-filled b.ll attached to a horizontal catheter. Method: Our method is.to model the s.s.em as.a quas.-Pois.uille flow driven b. the pres.ure drop generated b. the elas.ic s.here. We cons.ruct an engineering model of the pres.ure exerted b. an elas.ic s.here and match it to a s.lution of the one-dimens.onal radial Navier-s.okes.equation that des.rib.s.flow through a horizontal, cylindrical tub.. Res.lts. Our res.lts.are that the model accurately reproduces.flow rates.ob.ained in clinical s.udies. We als. dis.over that the flow rate has.an unavoidab.e maximum, which we call the “toxicity b.mp”, when the radius.of the s.here approaches.its.terminal, uns.retched value—an effect that has.b.en ob.erved experimentally. Conclus.ons. We conclude that b. choos.ng the properties.of an elas.omeric pump, the toxicity b.mp can b. res.ricted to les. than 10% of the earlier, relatively cons.ant flow rate. Our model als. produces.a relation b.tween the length of time that the analges.c fluid infus.s.and the phys.cal properties.of the fluid, of the elas.omeric s.here and the tub., and of the b.ood ves.el into which the analges.c infus.s.
