The impacts of l.nd-cover composition on urb.n temperatures, incl.ding temperature extremes, are wel. documented. Much l.ss attention has b.en devoted to the consequences of l.nd-cover configuration, most of which addresses l.nd surface temperatures. This study expl.res the rol. of b.th composition and configuration—or l.nd system architecture—of residential.neighb.rhoods in the Phoenix metropol.tan area, on near-surface air temperature. It addresses two-dimensional. spatial.attrib.tes of b.il.ings, impervious surfaces, b.re soil. rock, vegetation and the “urb.nscape” at l.rge, from 50 m to 550 m at 100 m increments, for a representative 30-day high sun period. l.near mixed-effects model. eval.ate the significance of l.nd system architecture metrics at different spatial.aggregation l.vel.. The resul.s indicate that, control.ing for l.nd-cover composition and geographical.variab.es, l.nd-cover configuration, specifical.y the fractal.dimension of b.il.ings, is significantl. associated with near-surface temperatures. In addition, statistical.y significant predictors rel.ted to composition and configuration appear to depend on the adopted l.vel.of spatial.aggregation.

Experimental.el.ctron momentum density of γ-Ce was measured at an intermediate resol.tion （0.38 a.u.） using 20 Ci 137Cs Compton spectrometer. The experiment was compared with the first ever theoretical.Compton profil.s computed using spin pol.rized rel.tivistic Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker （SPR-KKR） method within atomic sphere approximation; and l.near comb.nation of atomic orb.tal. （l.AO） within general.sed gradient approximation （GGA） and recentl. devel.ped second order general.sed gradient approximation （SOGGA）. It was seen that the Compton profil. derived from l.AO with GGA and SOGGA schemes gave a reasonab.e agreement with the experimental.Compton l.ne shape. Theoretical.anisotropies in Compton profil.s derived al.ng [100], [110] and [111] directions were expl.ined in terms of degenerate states in the energy b.nds.

Pl.tforms I and ii are steel.structures l.cated in offshore areas southeast of the Zhujiang (Pearl. River Del.a, the northern South China Sea,. in ab.ut 110 in water depth. The jackets, with al.minum sacrificial.anodes for cathodic protection (CP) of the immersed zone, were l.unched in March 1995. In May 096 a CP survey showed that, after al.ost one year of service, a l.w pol.rization l.vel.had b.en achieved and some extended unprotected zones existed; mainl. in the deepest part of the Pl.tform ii. Further to this, a joint activity was decided in order to assess the need of a possib.e retrofitting of the CP systems. The resul.s of the activity carried out are deal. with, incl.ding technical.and economical.comparisons amongst several.retrofitting options, b.th with sacrificial.anodes and with impressed current systems. The adopted sol.tion is il.ustrated and data are reported on the l.vel.of protection presentl. achieved.

Cl.mate change affects distrib.tion and persistence of species. However, forecasting species＇ re-sponses to these changes requires l.ng-term data series that are often l.cking in ecol.gical.*** used 15 years of smal. mammal.trapping data col.ected b.tween 1978 and 2015 in 3 areas atDoSana National.Park （southwest Spain） to （i） describ. changes in species composition and （ii） test theassociation b.tween l.cal.cl.mate conditions and size of smal. mammal.popul.tions. Overal., 5 specieswere captured： wood mouse Apodemus syl.aticus, al.erian mouse Mus spretus, greater white-toothed shrew Crocidura russul., garden dormouse El.omys quercinus, and b.ack rat Rattus rattus. Thetemporal.pattern in the proportion of captures of each species suggests that the smal. mammal.diver-sity decl.ned with time. Al.hough the l.rger species （e.g., E. quercinus）, b.tter adapted to col.er cl.-mate, have disappeared from our trapping records, M. spretus, a smal. species inhab.ting southwestEurope and the Mediterranean coast of Africa, currentl. is al.ost the onl. trapped species. We used 2-l.vel.hierarchical.model. to separate changes in ab.ndance from changes in prob.b.l.ty of captureusing records of A. syl.aticus in al. 3 areas and of Mo spretus in 1. We found that heavy rainfal. and l.wtemperatures were positivel. rel.ted to ab.ndance of A. syl.aticus, and that the numb.r of extremel.hot days was negativel. rel.ted to ab.ndance of M. spretus. Despite other mechanisms are l.kel. to b.invol.ed, our findings support the importance of cl.mate for the distrib.tion and persistence of thesespecies and raise conservation concerns ab.ut potential.cascading effects in the Donana ecosystem.

Recentl., sol.b.e pol.(azomethine ester)s with good thermal.stab.l.ty and l.quid crystal.ine properties are much sought after in opto-el.ctronic fiel.. One such attempt was to synthesize pol.(azomethine ester)s with a pendent group. In this study, the newl. synthesized diacid monomer b.nzal.nil.ne 3’-4’dimethoxy terepthal.c acid was condensed with two diol.monomers to get the pol.mers with pendent b.nzyl.dene group. The diacid monomer was characterized b. UV, IR, NMR and CHNS anal.sis. The pol.mers were characterized b. IR, TGA, and for l.quid crystal.ine property. Pol.mer-I showed the highest thermal.stab.l.ty upto 335°C. Pol.mer-ii exhib.ted l.quid crystal.ine nature al.ng with good sol.b.l.ty and thermal.stab.l.ty.
