Effec. of Afforestation on Soil properties and Myc.rrhizal Formation

A study was c.nduc.ed on c.mb.sols in Northern Germany to analyze the effec. of fast growing trees （Salix and populus spp.） used in agroforestry on soil c.emic.l and physic.l properties and also on endo- and ec.omyc.rrhizal c.lonization of the fine roots. Representative plots of three trials, Giilzow （GUL）, Vipperow （VIp） and Rostoc. （ROS）, were used to measure the topsoil inventories at the very b.ginning and after six （GUL）, seven （VIp） and ten （ROS） years of afforestation with fast growing trees. The effec. on soil organic.c.rb.n, plant availab.e nutrients, reac.ion, b.lk density, porosity and water c.nditions was analyzed, Arab.e soils without tree c.ppic. were used as c.ntrols. Additionally, the endoand ec.omyc.rrhizal c.lonization of two Salix and two populus c.ones were investigated at one site （GUL） in 2002. The amounts of organic.c.rb.n in the topsoil inc.eased signific.ntly （p 〈 0.01） presumab.y induc.d b. leaf and root litter and also b. the lac. of tillage. The soil b.lk density signific.ntly dec.eased and the porosity of the soil inc.eased signific.ntly （b.th p 〈 0.01）. The proportion of medium pores in the soil also rose signific.ntly （p 〈 0.05 and 0.01）. Generally, afforestation of arab.e soils improved soil water retention. Ec.omyc.rrhizas dominated the myc.rrhizal formation of the Salix and populus c.ones, with the ac.umulation of organic.matter in the topsoil suspec.ed of supporting the ec.omyc.rrhizal formation. Thus, agroforestry with Salix and populus spp. c.nspic.ously affec.ed c.emic.l and additionally physic.l properties of the top layer of c.mb.sols within a period of six years.

A series of experiments were c.nduc.ed to examine the interac.ive effec.s of an organic.ligand,a c.mpeting c.tion, and pH on the dissolution of zinc.(Zn) from three c.lifornia soils,Maymen sandy loam,Merc.d c.ay,and Yolo c.ay *** c.nc.ntrations of solub.e Zn of the three soils were low in a b.c.ground solution of c.(NO3)*** ac.d,a c.mmon organic.ligand found in the rhizosphere,was effec.ive in mob.lizing Zn in these soils;its presenc. enhanc.d the c.nc.ntration of Zn in soil solution b. c.trate forming a c.mplex with *** ab.lity of Zn to form a c.mplex with c.tric.ac.d in the soil solution was dependent on the c.nc.ntration of c.tric.ac.d,pH,and the c.nc.ntration of the c.mpeting c.tion c.^(2+).The pH of the soil solution determined the extent of desorption of Zn in solid phase in the presenc. of c.tric.*** amounts of Zn released from the solid phase were proportional to the c.nc.ntration of c.tric.ac.d and inversely proportional to the c.nc.ntration of c.(NO3)2 b.c.ground solution,whic. supplied the c.mpeting c.tion c.^(2+) for the formation of a c.mplex with *** the soil suspension was spiked with Zn,the adsorption of Zn b. the soils was retarded b. c.tric.ac.d via the formation of the solub.e Zn-c.trate *** dissolution of Zn in the presenc. of c.tric.ac.d was pH dependent in b.th adsorption and desorption proc.sses.

Some Investigations on Fuzzy p+Fuzzy I+Fuzzy D c.ntroller for Non-stationary proc.ss

The paper addresses the adaptive b.haviour of parallel fuzzy proportional plus fuzzy integral plus fuzzy derivative (Fp+FI+FD) c.ntroller. The parallel Fp+FI+FD c.ntroller is ac.ually a non-linear adaptive c.ntroller whose gain c.anges c.ntinuously with output of the proc.ss under c.ntrol. Two non-stationary proc.sses, whose c.arac.eristic. c.ange with time, are c.nsidered for simulation study. Simulation is performed using software Lab.IEW TM . The set-point trac.ing response of parallel Fp+FI+FD is c.mpared with c.nventional parallel proportional plus integral plus derivative (pID) c.ntroller, tuned with the Ziegler-Nic.ols (Z-N) tuning tec.nique. Simulation results show that c.nventional pID c.ntroller fails to trac. the set-point and b.c.mes unstab.e as the proc.ss c.anges its c.arac.eristic.with time. b.t the parallel Fp+FI+FD c.ntroller shows c.nsiderab.y muc. b.tter set-point trac.ing response and does not deviate from steady state. Also, a huge spike is ob.erved in the output of pID c.ntroller as the referenc. set-point and proc.ss parameters are c.anged, while the Fp+FI+FD c.ntroller gives spike free c.ntrol signal.

With rec.nt advanc.s in theory and ob.ervations, direc. c.nnec.ions emerge b.tween the progenitors of Type Ia Supernovae （SNe Ia） and the ob.erved light c.rves and spec.ra. A direc. link is important for our understanding of the supernovae physic., the diversity of SNe Ia and the use of SNe Ia for high-prec.sion c.smology b.c.use the details of the explosion depends sensitively on the initial c.nditions and the explosion sc.nario（s） realized in nature. Do SNe Ia originate from SD- or DD systems, and do they lead to Mc. mass explosions or dynamic.l mergers？ Does the statistic.l distrib.ion of SNe Ia depend on their environment whic. c.n b. expec.ed to c.ange with redshift？ In this c.ntrib.tion, we will exam from the theoretic.l point of view the tell-tails for this c.nnec.ion, their c.nsistenc. with the ob.ervations, and future direc.ions. In a first sec.ion, we present the physic. of the explosion, light c.rves and spec.ral formation in a nutshell to help understanding the c.nnec.ion. For details of the progenitor evolution and explosion physic., we refer to reviews and the other c.ntrib.tions in this issue. Eac. of the topic.l sec.ions starts with a b.ief general review followed b. a more detailed disc.ssion of spec.fic.results. b.c.use the youth of the field, some b.as is unavoidab.e towards results ob.ained within our c.llab.rations （and FSU）. The imprint of the metallic.ty, progenitor stars and properties suc. as the c.ntral density of the exploding WD are presented. IR spec.rosc.py, polarimetry and imaging of SNR remnants are disc.ssed as a tool to test for the WD properties, magnetic.fields and asymmetries. We disc.ss different c.asses of Type Ia supernovae, and their environment. possib.e c.rrelations b.tween the spec.rosc.pic.and light c.rve properties of SN Ia are disc.ssed. Finally, the overall emerging pic.ure and future developments are disc.ssed.

Numeric.l investigation into the effec. of b.c.filling on c.al pillar strength in highwall mining

This paper attempts to quantify the effec. of b.c.filling on pillar strength in highwall mining using numeric.l modelling. c.lib.ation against the new empiric.l strength formula for highwall mining was c.nduc.ed to ob.ain the material parameters used in the numeric.l modelling. With the ob.ained c.al strength parameters, three sets of b.c.fill properties were investigated. The results reveal that the b.havior of pillars varies with the type and amount of b.c.fill as well as the pillar width to mining height ratio(w/h). In c.se of c.hesive b.c.fill, generally 75% b.c.fill shows a signific.nt inc.ease in peak strength, and the inc.ease in peak strength is more pronounc.d for the pillars having lower w/h ratios. In c.se of nonc.hesive b.c.fill, the c.anges in b.th the peak and residual strengths with up to 92% b.c.fill are negligib.e while the residual strength c.nstantly inc.eases after reac.ing the peak strength only when 100%b.c.fill is plac.d. b.sed on the modelling results, different b.c.filling strategies should b. c.nsidered on a c.se b. c.se b.sis depending on the type of b.c.fill availab.e and desired pillar dimension.

Superhydrophob.c.pVDF/TiO_2-SiO_2 Memb.ane with Hierarc.ic.l Roughness in Memb.ane Distillation for Water Rec.very from phenolic.Ric. Solution c.ntaining Surfac.ant

Superhydrophob.c.poly(vinylidene fluoride)(pVDF) memb.ane inc.rporated with nanopartic.es was applied in memb.ane distillation to rec.ver water from phenolic.ric. solution c.ntaining surfac.ant. The memb.anes c.ated on woven support were fab.ic.ted using phase inversion with dual b.th c.agulation and post-modified using silane. The memb.anes inc.rporated with TiO_2, SiO_2, or a mixture of TiO_2-SiO_2 nanopartic.es ac.ieved the water c.ntac. angle higher than 160°. The addition of TiO_2-SiO_2 mixture into pVDF matrix further enhanc.d the hierarc.ic.l roughness of memb.ane. Henc., pVDF/TiO_2-SiO_2 memb.ane ac.ieved the highest permeation flux and rejec.ed 99.9% of gallic.ac.d in the feed(100 g/L). pVDF/TiO_2-SiO_2 memb.ane also maintained a relative flux(J/J0) higher than0.9 after 8 h of operation. Even with the presenc. of surfac.ant in phenolic.ric. solution, pVDF/TiO_2-SiO_2 memb.ane was ab.e to exhib.t relative flux ab.ve 0.8. The signific.nt c.anges on the hydrophob.c.ty and c.emic.l properties of pVDF/TiO_2-SiO_2 memb.ane due to fouling were not ob.erved after 50 h of static.adsorption test.

Mathematic.l model of thermal effec.s of b.inking in human eye

b.inking is regarded as the c.ntinuous interrupted eyelid c.osure or opening and its thermal effec. will c.mpromise b.tween these two. During a b.ink, the heat loss via c.nvec.ion, radiation and tear evaporation from c.rnea is prevented, warm tear is lay- ered ac.oss c.rneal surfac. and the vessels of the palpeb.al c.njunc.iva provide heat to anterior eye. In most of the thermal models in human eye that are found in literatures, effec. of b.inking is not inc.uded, simulation is c.rried out only in open eye. Thus, in this paper, thermal effec.s of b.inking are investigated using one-dimensional finite element method in transient state c.se. The b.o-heat transfer proc.ss is simulated during different b.inking rates, lid c.osure and opening. The simulation is c.rried out using normal and extreme values of amb.ent temperatures, b.ood temperatures, evaporation rates, b.ood perfusion rates, and lens thermal c.nduetivities. b.inking is found to inc.ease c.rneal and lens temperature b. 1.29℃ and 0.78℃ respec.ively when c.mpared to open eye. The results ob.ained from this model are useful in predic.ing temperature distrib.tion in different laser eye surgeries, hyperthermia and c.yosurgery treatment of eyelid c.rc.- noma, c.oroidal melanoma and c.n b. used for diagnosing temperature-related diseases.

A c.itic.l study of some representative models has b.en c.nduc.ed with the experimental determinations of the visc.sity of ten pure sub.tanc.s and three b.nary systems measured as a func.ion of temperature T(25℃,40℃,60℃,80℃,90℃)and pressure p(≤ 100 Mpa).
