This study was done to assess whether self monitoring of b.ood glucose is associated with b.tter glycaemic control in type 2 diab.tic Trinidadians. Data was collected from 146 type 2 diab.tics via interviews and medical files. Variab.es extracted included fasting b.ood glucose, Hb.1c and lipid profile. Recent users of the glucometer had b.tter glycemic control compared with longstanding users (Hb.1c: 8.4% ± 0.28% vs 9.4% ± 0.62%). Diab.tics using a glucometer for >11 years had the highest cholesterol (234 ± 27mg/dL) while those using it 6 months to 5 yrs had the lowest values (206 ± 8 mg/dL). Using the glucometer occasionally or once a week had little impact on these indices. Usage of insulin preparation was positively correlated with Hb.1c (r = 0.295;p = 0.001) while those relying on oral hypoglycaemic agents showed a negative correlation (r = -0.265). Further, those who took their medication as prescrib.d had a lower Hb.1c than those who took their medication occasionally. Ironically, Hb.1c fell with increasing duration b.tween clinic visits with those visiting annually having the lowest Hb.1c (9.0% ± 0.2% vs 7.1% ± 0.7%). Compliance with lifestyle and exercise resulted in lower Hb.1c and b.ood lipids. Poor client education on glucometer usage, administration of insulin and non-compliance with diet and exercise were associated with higher Hb.1c.

Diab.tic neuropathy is a disorder which affects various regions of the nervous sys-tem and there is no specific treatment availab.e for ***,the present study eval-uated protective effect of molsidomine in diab.tic neuropathy in *** was induced in male Wistar rats b. administrating streptozotocin(52 mg/kg i.p).Diab.tic rats were administered with molsidomine 5 mg/kg p.o,and 10mg/kg *** *** 8 weeks of treatment,Motor coordination,Mechanical allodynia,Mechanical hyperalgesia,Nerve conduction velocity,Glycosylated hemoglob.n were *** animals were sacrificed and sciatic nerve was *** was used for reduced glutathione,lipid peroxidation and for *** with molsidomine significantly improved motor coordination,paw withdrawal threshold,mechanical threshold and nerve conduction ***,mol-sidomine treatment also reduced malondialdehyde levels and prevented depletion of reduced glutathione in sciatic nerve *** shows molsid-omine treatment maintained normal architecture of sciatic *** results of our study strengthens the alterative use of molsidomine in diab.tic neuropathy.

A novel b.oresin, epoxidized soyb.an oil was synthesized b. in situ method and was characterized employing FTIR and NMR. The b.oresin was b.ended with epoxy（DGEb.） at different ratios as reactive diluents for improved processib.lity and toughened nature. The composition with 20 wt% b.oresin exhib.ted improved impact strength to the tune of 60% as compared to virgin epoxy. Fracture toughness parameters critical stress intensity factor（KIC） and critical strain energy release rate（GIC） were evaluated using single edge notch b.nding test and demonstrated superior enhancement in toughness. Dynamic mechanical, thermal, thermo mechanical and fracture morphological analyses have b.en studied for b.o-b.sed epoxy b.ends. Curing kinetics has b.en evaluated through DSC analysis to investigate the effect of b.oresin on cross-linking reaction of neat epoxy with triethylenetetramine as curing agent.

Hearing loss(HL)is a kind of common illness,which can significantly reduce the quality of *** example,HL often results in mishearing,misunderstanding,and communication ***,it is necessary to provide early diagnosis and timely treatment for *** study investigated the advantages and disadvantages of three classical machine learning methods:multilayer perceptron(MLP),support vector machine(SVM),and least-square support vector machine(LS-SVM)approach andmade a further optimization of the LS-SVM model via wavelet *** investigation illustrated that themultilayer perceptron is a shallowneural network,while the least square support vector machine uses hinge loss function and least-square ***,a wavelet selection method was proposed,and we found db. can achieve the b.st *** experiments showed that the LS-SVM method can identify the hearing loss disease with an overall accuracy of three classes as 84.89±1.77,which is superior to SVM *** results show that the least-square support vector machine is effective in hearing loss identification.

All possib.e arrangements of cycles of three periodic as well as four periodicHerman rings of transcendental meromorphic functions having at least one omitted value aredetermined. It is shown that if p = 3 or 4, then the numb.r of p-cycles of Herman rings isat most one. We have also proved a result ab.ut the non-existence of a 3-cycle and a 4-cycleof Herman rings simultaneously. Finally some examples of functions having no Herman ringare discussed.

Ob.ective:To investigate the interaction of p53 with docetaxel and b.rb.rine and their anticancer activities against oral squamous cell ***:The interaction b.tween p53 with docetaxel and b.rb.rine was investigated and their mechanisms of action against oral squamous cell carcinoma were *** studies were performed to determine any toxic impact of the drugs on the vital organs of tested ***:In silico results revealed the molecular interaction of docetaxel and b.rb.rine with p53 and the molecules were found to b. potential p53 *** and b.rb.rine inhib.ted the proliferation of cancer cells in a concentration-dependent *** cytometry analysis revealed that docetaxel and b.rb.rine at IC50 concentrations upregulated the expression of p53 in oral squamous cell carcinoma cells,thus triggering apoptotic cell *** addition,no toxicity was ob.erved in the liver and kidney tissues of mice after docetaxel and b.rb.rine ***:Docetaxel and b.rb.rine significantly suppressed the proliferation of oral cancer cells b. activating p53 expression and causing apoptotic cell *** compounds can b. potential agents for the treatment of oral cancer,with little to no toxicity at the tissue level.

b.oleaching of a low grade chalcopyrite （b.ll mill spillage material） was tested for copper recovery in shake flasks. The original samples （as received） were thermally activated （600℃, 30 min） to notice the change in physico-chemical and mineralogical characteristics of the host rock and sub.equently its effect on copper recovery. A mixed culture of acidophilic chemolithotrophic b.cterial consortium predominantly entailing Acidithiob.cillus fer- rooxidans strain was used for b.oleaching studies and optimization of process parameters of b.th original and thermally activated samples. Mineralogical characteriza- tion studies indicated the presence of chalcopyrite, pyrite in the silicate matrix of the granitic rock. Field emission scanning electron microscopy coupled with Energy dispersive spectroscopy （FESEM-EDS） and X-ray Fluor- escence （XRF） analysis indicated mostly SiO2. With pH 2, pulp density 10% w/v, inoculum 10% v/v, temperature 30~C, 150 ***-~, 49% copper could b. recovered in 30 days from the finest particle size （- 1 ~ 0.75 mm） of the original spillage sample. Under similar conditions 95% copper could b. recovered from the thermally activated sample with the same size fraction in 10 days. The study revealed that thermal activation leads to volume expansion in the rock with the development of cracks, micro and macro pores on its surface, thereb. enab.ing b.cterial solution to penetrate more easily into the b.dy, facilitating enhanced copper dissolution.
