Use of Initial Modified RECIST Tumor Response Evaluation Criteria for Predicting Survival in Patients with Hepatocellular Carcinoma Undergoing Transarterial Chemoemb.lization with Drug-Eluting b.ads

Introduction: Transarterial chemoemb.lization (TACE) reduces tumor growth and increases survival in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Drug-eluting b.ads (DEb. deliver slow-release chemotherapy and reduce systemic toxicity during TACE. This study correlated initial tumor response according to modified RECIST (mRECIST) criteria and 1-year survival in patients with HCC treated with TACE-DEb. and identified predictors of tumor response. Methods: Fifty-two patients with HCC received TACE-DEb.loaded with doxorub.cin 75 mg during a 6-month period. Tumor response was evaluated 1 month after the procedure according to mRECIST criteria. Results: Most patients were cirrhotic and etiology of liver disease was hepatitis C in 26/52 (50%). Similar numb.rs of patients had b.rcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (b.LC) A and b.LC b.disease. Most patients had one nodule (66%). Complete response (CR) was achieved in 12/52 (23%), partial response in 19/52 (37%), stab.e disease in 4/52 (8%) and progressive disease in 17/52 (32%). Largest HCC ≤58 mm and b.LC stage A were associated with CR. The 1-year survival was 74%, with survival rates of 95% and 56% in the b.LC A and b.groups, respectively. Variab.es reflecting tumor extension were associated with b.tter survival. CR according to mRECIST criteria was a predictor of b.tter 1-year survival (100% vs. 64%, P b.LC A and CR according to mRECIST criteria predict improved 1-year survival in patients with HCC treated with TACE-DEb. Further studies are needed to evaluate other predictors of survival and to determine if tumor response predicts long-term survival.

＜正＞ The recent implementation of legal b.lingualism necessitates the development of a Chinese Computer-Aided Transcription （CAT） system to product Chinese court proceedings conducted in Cantonese. The transcription system converts transcription shorthand codes into Chinese text, i.e., from phonetic to textual representation of the language. Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese have many homophonous characters. The main challenge lies in the resolution of the severe amb.guity of the conversion. N-gram statistical model is incorporated to estimate the most prob.b.e character string during conversion. Domain- specific corpora have b.en compiled to support the statistical computation. With additional enhancement features, the CAT system delivers a transcription accuracy of 96%. An intelligent error detection tool is b.ilt into the system to facilitate the manual correction of the remaining errors. Using decision tree algorithm and a range of text and linguistic attrib.tes, the system can effectively alert the users to possib.e errors.
