Evaluation of Typ. of Nep.rop.thy in p.tients of Typ.-2 Diab.tes Mellitus

b.ckground of the Study, Aims and Ob.ectives: There are very few studies on histological p.tterns of diab.tic nep.rop.thy in our p.rt of country. The aim of this study was to evaluate the renal involvement in p.tients with Typ.-2 diab.tes mellitus (T2DM), assess the histop.thological changes and estab.ish a clinico-p.thological correlation. Sub.ects, Method and Materials: Thirty two Typ. 2 DM p.tients with nep.rop.thy, after screening consecutive hundred(100) Typ. 2 Diab.tics admitted to the Medicine Dep.rtment were evaluated for renal involvement b. kidney b.op.y and histop.thological study. Statistical analysis was done b. student’s t-test, chi-square and linear regression analysis. Results: Thirty two p.tients (32) with diab.tic nep.rop.thy (20 males and 12 females) formed the study group.out of hundred (100) consecutive Typ.-2 diab.tes mellitus p.tients (58 males and 42 females) admitted to Medicine Dep.rtment of SCb.Medical College Hosp.tal, Cuttack. The frequency of occurrence of clinical diab.tic nep.rop.thy was 32%. Most of the p.tients were having duration of DM of 6-10 years (87.5%). p.dal edema was found in 96.87%, hyp.rtension in 87.5% p.tients resp.ctively. Regression analysis showed that durations of DM and Hb.1c were the two significant risk factors (p.Histop.thologically, diffuse glomerulosclerosis was the most common form of renal ab.ormality found in 93.75% followed b. nodular glomerulosclerosis in 62.50% with overlap.in many p.tients, memb.anous nep.rop.thy in 12.5% and focal necrotising glomerulonep.ritis in 6.25% resp.ctively. There was no statistically significant clinicop.thological correlation ob.erved b.tween clinical and b.ochemical p.rameters in p.tients harb.uring the two p.edominant histological typ.s of nep.rop.thy i.e. diffuse and nodular glomerulosclerosis with resp.ct to age, sex, duration of diab.tes, b.dy mass index, systolic b.ood p.essure, Hb.1c, 24 hour urinary p.otein, creatinine clearance, serum urea, serum creatinine or lip.d

Unit commitment （UC） is an op.imization p.ob.em used to determine the op.ration schedule of the generating units at every hour interval with varying loads under different constraints and environments. Many algorithms have b.en invented in the p.st five decades for op.imization of the UC p.ob.em, b.t still researchers are working in this field to find new hyb.id algorithms to make the p.ob.em more realistic. The imp.rtance of UC is increasing with the constantly varying demands. There- fore, there is an urgent need in the p.wer sector to keep.track of the latest methodologies to further op.imize the working criterions of the generating units. This p.p.r focuses on p.oviding a clear review of the latest techniques emp.oyed in op.imizing UC p.ob.ems for b.th stochastic and deterministic loads, which has b.en acquired from many p.er reviewed p.b.ished p.p.rs. It has b.en divided into many sections which include various constraints b.sed on p.ofit, security, emission and time. It emp.asizes not only on deregulated and regulated environments b.t also on renewab.e energy and distrib.ted generating systems. In terms of contrib.tions, the detailed analysis of all the UC algorithms has b.en discussed for the b.nefit of new researchers interested in working in this field.

We carried out an ethno-medico-b.ological investigation in the interior of b.adrak district, Odisha, India to exp.ore the therap.utic use of traditional p.ants/animals b. local inhab.tants. The villagers and rural p.op.e used p.ant and animal sp.cies as medicine. We recorded therap.utic use of 18 p.ant sp.cies of 13 families and 12 animal sp.cies of seven taxonomic categories. Different p.ant/animal p.rts like b.rk, leaf, flower, seed, stem, root, whole p.ant, oil, b.ood, milk, urine and flesh were rep.rted as used in raw or cooked form against 17 sp.cific diseases. p.ominent diseases treated b. p.ant/animal remedies were asthma, cardiovascular ailments, diab.tes, ep.lep.y, jaundice, malaria, skin disorder and rheumatism. This study p.ovides a b.tter datab.se for future studies.

Magnetic and flotation studies of b.nded hematite quartzite (b.Q) ore for the p.oduction of p.llet grade concentrate

To identify and estab.ish b.neficiation techniques for b.nded hematite quartzite （b.Q） iron ore, a comp.ehensive research on b.Q ore treatment was carried out. The b.Q ore was assayed as 38.9wt% Fe, 42.5wt% SiO2, and 1.0wt% Al2O3. In this ore, hematite and quartz are p.esent as the major mineral p.ases where goethite, martite, and magnetite are p.esent in small amounts. The lib.ration of hematite p.rticles can b. enhanced to ab.ut 82% b. reducing the p.rticle size to b.low 63 μm. The rejection of silica p.rticles can b. ob.ained b. magnetic and flotation sep.ration techniques. Overall, the b.Q ore can b. enriched to 65.3wt% Fe at 61.9% iron recovery. A flowsheet has b.en suggested for the commercial exp.oitation of the b.Q ore.

Op.imization of flotation variab.es for the recovery of hematite p.rticles from b.Q ore

The technology for b.neficiation of b.nded iron ores containing low iron value is a challenging task due to increasing demand of quality iron ore in India. A flotation p.ocess has b.en develop.d to treat one such ore, namely b.nded hematite quartzite （b.Q） containing 41.8wt% Fe and 41.5wt% SiO2,b. using oleic acid, methyl isob.tyl carb.nol （MIb.）, and sodium silicate as the collector, frother, and disp.rsant, resp.ctively. The relative effects of these variab.es have b.en evaluated in half-normal p.ots and p.reto charts using central comp.site rotatab.e design. A quadratic resp.nse model has b.en develop.d for b.th Fe grade and recovery and op.imized within the exp.rimental range. The op.imum reagent dosages are found to b. as follows： collector concentration of 243.58 g/t, disp.rsant concentration of 195.67 g/t, p. 8.69, and conditioning time of 4.8 min to achieve the maximum Fe grade of 64.25% with 67.33% recovery. The p.edictions of the model with regard to iron grade and recovery are in good agreement with the exp.rimental results.

Effect of Thickness of SnO_2:F over Layer on Certain p.ysical p.op.rties of ZnO:Al Thin Films for Op.o-electronic Ap.lications

b.layered FTO/AZO （fluorine dop.d tin oxide/aluminium dop.d zinc oxide） films were fab.icated using a simp.e, cost effective sp.ay p.rolysis technique. X-ray diffraction （XRD） p.ofiles of b.layered films showed that in the case of lower thickness FTO over layers, （002） p.ane of ZnO p.ase had the highest intensity, whereas the p.edominance was changed in favour of （200） p.ane of SnO2 p.ase for higher thickness FTO over layer. UV studies showed that b.layered FTO/AZO films exhib.ted a sharp.ab.orp.ion edge as that of AZO film. The decrease in the p.otoluminescence （p.） p.ak at 420 nm with increasing FTO over layer thickness indicated a reduction in the zinc vacancies which caused a reduction in the sheet resistance （Rsh）. Electrical studies revealed that, eventhough the Rsh value （916Ω/□） of b.layered FTO （313 nm）/AZO （314 nm） film was found to b. higher than that of FTO single layer film （72Ω/□）, it was much lower than that of AZO single layer film （5661Ω/□））. The atomic force microscop. （AFM） images reflect the characteristic features of b.th zinc oxide and tin oxide films.

The ATF2 p.oject is the final focus system p.ototyp. for the ILC and CLIC linear collider p.ojects, with a p.rp.se of reaching a 37 nm vertical b.am size at the interaction p.int （Ip.. During the initial commissioning, we started with larger-than-nominal β-functions at the Ip.in order to reduce the effects from higher-order op.ical ab.rrations and thereb. simp.ifying the op.ical corrections needed. We rep.rt on the simulation studies at two different Ip.locations develop.d b.sed on waist scan, disp.rsion, coup.ing and β function multiknob. correction in the large β op.ics of ATF2, in the p.esence of two kinds of magnet inaccuracies （quadrup.le gradient and roll errors） to generate all p.ssib.e linear op.ic distortions at the Ip. A vertical b.am size which is very close to the nominal b.am size is ob.ained b.sed on the simulation study.

Effect of Afforestation on Soil p.op.rties and Mycorrhizal Formation

A study was conducted on Camb.sols in Northern Germany to analyze the effect of fast growing trees （Salix and p.p.lus sp..） used in agroforestry on soil chemical and p.ysical p.op.rties and also on endo- and ectomycorrhizal colonization of the fine roots. Rep.esentative p.ots of three trials, Giilzow （GUL）, Vip.erow （VIp. and Rostock （ROS）, were used to measure the top.oil inventories at the very b.ginning and after six （GUL）, seven （VIp. and ten （ROS） years of afforestation with fast growing trees. The effect on soil organic carb.n, p.ant availab.e nutrients, reaction, b.lk density, p.rosity and water conditions was analyzed, Arab.e soils without tree cop.ice were used as controls. Additionally, the endoand ectomycorrhizal colonization of two Salix and two p.p.lus clones were investigated at one site （GUL） in 2002. The amounts of organic carb.n in the top.oil increased significantly （p.〈 0.01） p.esumab.y induced b. leaf and root litter and also b. the lack of tillage. The soil b.lk density significantly decreased and the p.rosity of the soil increased significantly （b.th p.〈 0.01）. The p.op.rtion of medium p.res in the soil also rose significantly （p.〈 0.05 and 0.01）. Generally, afforestation of arab.e soils imp.oved soil water retention. Ectomycorrhizas dominated the mycorrhizal formation of the Salix and p.p.lus clones, with the accumulation of organic matter in the top.oil susp.cted of sup.orting the ectomycorrhizal formation. Thus, agroforestry with Salix and p.p.lus sp.. consp.cuously affected chemical and additionally p.ysical p.op.rties of the top.layer of Camb.sols within a p.riod of six years.

Develop.ent of a Cell-b.sed Model to Derive Direct Runoff Hydrograp.s for Ungauged Mountainous b.sins

A model to derive direct runoff hydrograp. for an ungauged b.sin using the p.ysical p.op.rties of the b.sin is p.esented. The b.sin is divided into grid cells and canal elements. Overland flow is generated from each grid cell of the b.sin b. ap.lication of continuous effective rainfall of I mm/hr to the b.sin, The flow generated is routed through downstream grid cells and the canal elements using the kinematic wave ap.roach. The travel time for direct runoff from each grid cell to the b.sin outlet is calculated and the S-curve is derived for the b.sin. The S-curve is used to derive the unit hydrograp. of a given duration for the b.sin. The model, referred as Cell-b.sin model was ap.lied to the Up.er Kotmale b.sin in Sri Lanka and the model p.edictions of direct runoff hydrograp.s for rainfall events agreed with the ob.ervations to a reasonab.e accuracy. Comp.rison of the unit hydrograp.s ob.ained from the model and from the conventional Snyder＇s synthetic unit hydrograp. using regionalized p.rameters assuming the b.sin as an ungauged b.sin, with the unit hydrograp. derived from the ob.ervations showed that the model p.edicted unit hydrograp. was more suitab.e than that ob.ained b. Snyder＇s method for Sri Lankan up.country b.sins. Thus, the p.esent model is a useful tool to ob.ain direct runoff hydrograp. for ungauged b.sins.

Remote sensing ap.lications are imp.rtant in the fisheries sector and efforts were on to imp.ove the p.edic-tions of p.tential fishing zones using ocean color. The p.esent study was aimed to investigate the p.yto-p.ankton dynamics and their ab.orp.ion p.op.rties in the coastal waters of the southeastern Arab.an Sea in different seasons during the year 2010 to 2011. The region exhib.ted 73 genera of p.ytop.ankton from 19 orders and 41 families. The numerical ab.ndance of p.ytop.ankton varied from 14.235×10^3 to 55.075×10^6 cells/L. Centric diatoms dominated in the region and the largest family identified was Thalassiosiraceae with main genera as Skeletonema sp..,p.anktionella *** Thalassiosira sp.. Annual variations in ab.n-dance of p.ytop.ankton showed a typ.cal one-p.ak cycle, with the highest recorded during p.emonsoon season and the lowest during monsoon season. The sp.cies diversity index of p.ytop.ankton exhib.ted low diversity during monsoon season. p.ytop.ankton with p.gments Chlorop.ylla, Chlorop.yllb. Chlorop.yll c, p.ridinin, diadinoxanthin, fucoxanthin,β-carotene and p.ycoerythrob.lin dominated in these waters. The knowledge on p.ytop.ankton dynamics in coastal waters of the southeastern Arab.an Sea forms a key p.rameter in b.o-op.ical models of p.gments and p.oductivity and for the interp.etation of remotely sensed ocean color data.
