b.ckground Coronary artery fistula （CAF） is a rare *** CAF closure has b.en introduced using various m.terials,b.t only few data are availab.e on the Guglielm. detachab.e coil （GDC）.The advantage of using GDC for transcatheter CAF closure is m.re controllab.e,therefore m.ch safer when com.ared to other *** report is ab.ut our experience in transcatheter closure of CAF using fib.red GDC in our *** ＆ Results From.2002 to 2007,there were 10 patients with CAFs （age range：28 to 56 year-old,7 m.les） who underwent transcatheter CAF *** were a total of 19 CAFs which originated from.right coronary （n =5）,left circum.lex （n =3）,left anterior descending artery （n =10） and left m.in trunk （n =1）.m.dian num.0}r of coil deploym.nt for each fistula was 3 （range：1 to 6）.The pulm.nary artery was the m.st com.on site of the distal com.unication of CAFs （n =14）,followed b. right atrium.（n =3）,left atrium.（n =1） and left ventricle （n =1）.Im.ediate coronary angiography after GDC deploym.nt revealed no residual shunt in 12 （63.2％） CAFs,significant reduction of the flow in 5 （26.3％）,while 2 （10.5％） could not b. closed due to sm.ll *** （90％） patients underwent a repeated angiography within 3 to 8 *** 12 CAFs that were occluded im.ediately post-deploym.nt,there were 2 CAFs with insignificant residual *** 6 CAFs with significantly decreased flow im.ediately post-deploym.nt,2 were occluded totally in the follow-up *** total,12 （70.5％） CAFs were occluded com.letely and 5 （29.5％） CAFs still had insignificant residual flow,which did not need any additional coil *** a m.an follow up of 4.3 ± 0.7 year,all patients rem.ined sym.tom.and com.lication *** The fib.red GDC is a safe and effective m.thod for percutaneous closure of the CAFs.

The spatial pattern distrib.tion of plant horm.nes in response to alum.num.(Al) toxicity in roots rem.ins to b. shown. This study was perform.d to assess the root horm.nal accum.lation and gene expression in response to Al toxicity in five transgenic m.niature dwarf tom.toes cv. m.cro-Tom.(m.). m. and m. transgenics to acid indole acetic, cytokinin, gib.erellin, ab.cisic acid and ethylene were cultivated in nutrient solutions containing different Al concentrations. Root growth elongation was m.asured and cellular dam.ge was visualized b. staining Evans’s b.ue. The GUS reporter gene staining technique was used to visualize horm.nal changes in m. apex root tissues. Data indicated that the m. is sensitive to Al that induced significant growth inhib.tion and cellular dam.ge. Al concentration of 27 μm.was significantly toxic, inducing root apex darkening and inhib.tion of root developm.nt. The qualitative evaluation of GUS reporter gene expression showed intense crosstalk am.ng all horm.nes studied, underscoring the com.lexity of signaling induced b. Al in apex roots. Results point out to a m.jor understanding of the horm.nal signaling in response to Al toxicity, which m.y induce a change of root growth and architecture with growth inhib.tion and cell constraints m.dulated b. all different horm.nes evaluated.

Evidence that nitrogen (N) fertilization tends to accelerate m.turation as well as increase rates of growth has received little attention when diagnosing N deficiencies in corn (Zea m.ys L.).Such a tendency could b. a potential source of errors when the diagnosis is solely b.sed on com.aring plants with different rates of *** N fertilization could accelerate rates of growth and m.turation was tested in a field study with 12 paired plots representing relatively large variab.lity in soil properties and landscape *** plots were located under conditions where preplant N fertilization reduced or avoided tem.orary N shortages for som. plants b.t did not reduce for other plants early in the *** m.asured corn heights to the youngest leaf collar,stages of growth and chlorophyll m.ter readings (Cm.s). The added N advanced growth stages as well as increased corn heights and Cm.s at any given *** effects on corn heights,growth stages and ear weights were statistically significant (Pb.tantial variab.lity associated with *** in growth due to a tem.orary shortage of N within a growth stage m.ght b. partially offset b. longer periods of growth within that stage to physiological *** shortages of N,therefore,m.y produce sym.tom. of N deficiency in situations where sub.equent additions of N should not b. expected to increase *** of these two som.what different effects (i.e.,increase growth rates and advance growth stages) on corn growth could help to define N deficiency m.re precisely and to im.rove the accuracy of diagnosing N status in production agriculture.

Finite elem.nt analysis(FEA) m.thod was em.loyed to perform.three-dim.nsional(3D) electric field sim.lations for gas detectors with m.ltiple wire electrodes.A new elem.nt refinem.nt m.thod developed for use in conjunction with the FEA program.ANSYS allows successful m.shing of the wires without physically inputting the wires in the cham.0}r geom.try. First, we dem.nstrate a m.del with only one wire, for which we calculate the potential distrib.tions on the central plane and the end-cap region. The results are com.ared to the calculations ob.ained using GARFIELD, a two-dim.nsional program.that uses the nearly exact b.undary elem.nt m.thod. Then we extend the m.thod to sam. m.del, b.t with seven *** results suggest that the new m.thod can b. applied easily to the 3D electric field calculations for com.licated gas detectors with m.ny wires and com.licated geom.try such as m.ltiwire proportional cham.0}rs and tim. projection cham.0}rs.

Sensitivity of the Indian m.nsoon to Hum.n Activities

In this paper the authors perform.an extensive sensitivity analysis of the Indian sum.er m.nsoon rainfall to changes in param.ters and b.undary conditions which are influenced b. hum.n activities. For this study the authors use a b.x m.del of the Indian m.nsoon which reproduces key features of the ob.erved m.nsoon dynam.cs such as the annual course of precipitation and the transitions b.tween winter and sum.er regim.s. b.cause of its transparency and com.utational efficiency, this m.del is highly suitab.e for exploring the effects of anthropogenic perturb.tions such as em.ssions of greenhouse gases and sulfur dioxide, and land cover changes, on the Indian m.nsoon. Results of a system.tic sensitivity analysis indicate that changes in those param.ters which are related to em.ssions of greenhouse gases lead to an increase in Indian sum.er rainfall. In contrast, all param.ters related to higher atm.spheric aerosol concentrations lead to a decrease in Indian rainfall. Sim.larly, changes in param.ters which can b. related to forest conversion or desertifieation, act to decrease the sum.er precipitation. The results indicate that the sign of precipitation changes over India will b. dependent on the direction and relative m.gnitude of different hum.n perturb.tions.

The Im.act of Assim.lating Radar-estim.ted Rain Rates on Sim.lation of Precipitation in the 17-18 July 1996 Chicago Floods

Rainfall prediction rem.ins one of the m.st challenging prob.em. in weather forecasting. In order to im.rove high-resolution quantitative precipitation forecasts （QPF）, a new procedure for assim.lating rainfall rate derived from.radar com.osite reflectivity has b.en proposed and tested in a num.rical sim.lation of the Chicago floods of 17–18 July 1996. The m.thodology is b.sed on the one-dim.nsional variation schem. （1DVAR） assim.lation approach introduced b. Fillion and Errico b.t applied here using the Kain-Fritsch convective param.terization schem. （KF CPS）. The novel feature of this work is the continuous assim.lation of radar estim.ted rain rate over a three hour period, rather than a single assim.lation at the initial （analysis） tim.. m.st of the characteristics of this precipitation event, including the propagation, regeneration of m.soscale convective system., the frontal b.undary across the m.dwest and the evolution of the low-level jet are b.tter captured in the sim.lation as the radar-estim.ted precipitation rate is assim.lated. The results indicate that precipitation assim.lation during the early stage can im.rove the sim.lated m.soscale feature of the convection system.and shorten the spin-up tim. significantly. Com.arison of precipitation forecasts b.tween the experim.nts with and without the 1DVAR indicates that the 1DVAR schem. has a positive im.act on the QPF up to 36 hours in term. of the b.as and b.as equalized threat scores.
