Hydrochemical Characterization of Groundwater in the Sub.Prefecture of Kokumb. (Ivory Coast)

In the Kokumb. sub.prefecture, groundwater extraction related to gold panning remains a major concern, not to mention the deterioration of its quality. Among the work carried out on water resources, no scientific interest has b.en shown in groundwater to characterise it. The ob.ective of this study is to contrib.te to the knowledge of its physico-chemical quality. In situ measurements and physico-chemical analyses using an inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer (ICP-OES) were carried out on five (5) human-powered pump (HPP) water samples and six (6) well water samples collected during low and high water seasons. The results show that the physico-chemical quality of the water, which is sometimes turb.d, is satisfactory in terms of the mineralization of the b.rehole and well water, and the pH of the b.reholes, while the temperatures of the two waters and the pH of the wells do not comply with WHO standards. The levels of major ions are recommended for consumption. The waters are classified as predominantly b.carb.nate-calcium and magnesium (73%) in the dry season and in the flood season, with an equal split b.tween b.carb.nate-calcium and magnesium (45.5%) and chloride-calcium and magnesium (45.5%). The elimination of materials responsib.e for the turb.dity of certain waters b. managers or populations is essential for drinking water use. The risk linked to this element means that these turb.d waters are not recommended for drinking water.

A systematic study was carried out to assess the level of contamination with fluorides and heavy metals in the drinking water of the city of Daloa as well as the risks to the health of consumers. The waters of 11.11% of the sites sampled exceeded the fluoride limit for drinking water with a contamination index (CI) greater than 0. All the waters recorded concentrations of cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn) and lead (Pb. ab.ve the recommended values with CI > 0. However, 22.22% of the sites recorded concentrations b.low the standard for zinc (Zn) with IC b.th adults and children except for Zn where the CDI > 1 for children in 22.22% of drinking water studied. HQs have an average of less than 1 for fluorine and greater than 1 for all metals. Moreover, the danger indices have values greater than 1. The incremental lifetime cancer risk (ILCR) and the total ILCR are ab.ve the recommended values. These results showed that the drinking water sampled is of poor quality due to higher levels of heavy metals, which can constitute a danger to human health. Long-term use of one of these poor quality waters can lead to cancer in consumers. It is therefore necessary to treat this water in order to eliminate the metals b.fore using it for drinking. This study can help decision-makers and competent authorities in charge of water management.

This study was carried out with a view to appreciate the value of clay, raw materials in eco-construction. To achieve this, we sampled two clay raw materials denoted Aga and b.k and then characterized. The results ob.ained from geotechnical and mineralogical tests have shown that the clay samples Aga and b.k are fine soils moderately plastic class A soils consisting essentially of quartz with 73.13% and 74.56% respectively for Aga and b.k and clay minerals (kaolinite and illite) with 12.73% kaolinite and 8.55% illite for Aga against 8.31% kaolinite and 13.72% for b.k. In order to provide the population with safe, effective and good quality medicines, the pharmaceutical industries, b.fore releasing b.tches of their products into the pharmaceutical circuit, put in place internal dosage methods to control the quality of these products. The present study consisted in optimizing a method for the simultaneous determination of Phloroglucinol (PHG) and Trimethylphloroglucinol (TPH) b. high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) routinely used in a pharmaceutical industry located in a township in Ab.djan (Ivory Coast). The b.sic chromatographic conditions were those routinely used for the determination of these two molecules: mob.le phase: acetonitrile/water (60/40), stationary phase (C18 b.S Hypersil 250 mm * 4.6 mm - 5 μm), detection wavelength (265 nm), flow rate, injection volume and run time configured at the equipment level were respectively 1 mL/min, 10 μL and 8 min. The method of preparation of the analytes (PHG and TPHG) was also applied b. the pharmaceutical industry. The application of these different parameters at the equipment level made it possib.e to determine a chromatogram which highlights three chromatographic peaks with respective retention times (RT) of 0.773 min (unidentified compound), 2.275 min (PHG) and 7.269 min for an analysis time of 8 min with a b.tter resolution of the peaks and b.seline. The progressive optimization of different parameters such as the stationary phase (C18 YMC 150 mm * 4.6 mm - 3 μm), the proportion of the mob.le phase: acetonitrile/water (80/20), the flow rate impelled b. the pump (0.8 mL/min) and the modification of the analyte preparation mode (same amount of PHG and TPHG in a 50 mL volumetric flask) resulted in a final chromatogram that highlighted two chromatographic peaks at the respective RT of 2.391 min (PHG) and 3.735 min (TPHG) at a run time of 6 min. Factors Associated with Hepatic Steatosis in b.ack African Sub.ects with Chronic Viral Hepatitis b.in Côte d’Ivoire

Context/Ob.ectives: With the progression of the glob.l epidemic of ob.sity and metab.lic syndrome, the coexistence of hepatic steatosis in patients with chronic viral hepatitis b.(VHb. is b.coming significant. The aim of this work was to determine the factors associated with hepatic steatosis assessed b. a Fib.oscan with Controlled Attenuation Parameter (CAP) in patients with chronic viral hepatitis b.in Côte d’Ivoire. Methods: This was a cross-sectional and analytical study. Data was collected from Feb.uary 15 to July 31, 2020 in a private hospital structure in the city of Ab.djan in Côte d’Ivoire. We included 83 patients with chronic viral hepatitis b. These were b.ack patients, having performed a Fib.oscan/CAP during the recruitment period and consenting to participate in the study. Patients with significant alcohol consumption, a secondary cause of hepatic steatosis, or other liver disease regardless of the etiology associated with hepatitis b.were not included. Results: The frequency of hepatic steatosis in chronic VHb.carriers assessed b. the CAP in our study population was 48.19% including 24.10% severe steatosis. Ob.sity and high LDL cholesterol were statistically correlated with the presence of steatosis in our patients. Patients who had steatosis on ultrasound were 5 times more likely to have steatosis on CAP. Significant fib.osis was not significantly associated with steatosis. Conclusion: Ob.sity and LDL hypercholesterolemia are the main factors associated with hepatic steatosis detected b. Fib.oscan/CAP in patients with chronic viral hepatitis b.

Several Dengue: Ab.ut 2 Cases with Pulmonary Disease

The most widespread arb.virus in the world, dengue fever has b.en rampant since the 18th century. Since then, several epidemics have b.en documented in Asia, the Carib.ean, South America and Africa. The authors report two cases of dengue fever in children aged six (6) and twelve (12) years respectively. The diagnosis of several dengue pulmonary was retained in these children, clinico-radiological and b.ological arguments. In addition to the hemorrhagic syndrome, the pulmonary symptomatology associated cough, dyspnea. Chest X-ray revealed b.lateral and extensive alveolar interstitial radiological lesions. From a b.ological point of view, the positivity of dengue-specific IgM has confirmed arb.viruses. From the diagnostic peculiarities of the cases ob.erved, the authors suggest the search for factors associated with a primary dengue infection from several onsets to pulmonary manifestation in children. Indeed, this fringe of the population is no longer concerned with acute respiratory infections. In addition, the socio-cultural context of poverty, of pre-hospital therapeutic itinerary favoring traditional medicine, delays hospital care.

b.nefit of Targeted Therapies in Metastatic Colon Cancer in the Ivorian Context

In our daily practice, the use of targeted therapies (b.vacizumab.and rarely Cetuximab. in metastatic colic cancers is recent. Very few patients b.nefit from these therapies b.cause of their high cost. In a cohort of 68 patients who received these therapies, a retrospective and prospective study was conducted over three years period (1 January 2013 to 31 Decemb.r 2015) to evaluate their b.nefit in terms of quality of life, tolerance and overall survival. These targeted therapies provided a significant clinical and b.ological gain with acceptab.e toxicities (most often resolving spontaneously). Moreover, they have allowed a significant improvement in overall survival in first line metastatic treatment. The limiting factor remains their extremely high cost and therefore inaccessib.lity to the majority of our patients.

Predictors of Direct-Acting Antivirals Failure in Patients with Chronic Hepatitis C Virus in Ivory Coast: Ab.ut 5 Cases

Context and Aim: Direct-acting antivirals are the therapeutic revolution in the management of viral hepatitis C, b.t often with a few cases of failure. The aim of this study was to identify factors that may b. implicated in the failure of direct-acting antiviral therapy in patients with hepatitis C virus in Ivory Coast. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional and descriptive study with a retrospective compendium of data from the year 2016 to the year 2018. This study included all patients with chronic viral hepatitis C, patients naive to antiviral treatment, or pre-treated patients in whom a failure to treatment with direct-acting antiviral has b.en diagnosed. Results: During the study period, 5 patients out of 14 cases of therapeutic failure were included, i.e. 35.71%. Most of the patients were over 50 years (4 out of 5) and predominantly female (3 out of 5). High b.ood pressure was the most common comorb.dity (3 out of 5 patients). Genotype 1 was found in 4 patients versus 1 case of genotype 2. None of the patients had hepatitis b.or HIV coinfection. A viral load > 6log was found in 4 patients at b.seline. All our patients had hepatic cytolysis. Two of them were cirrhotic. All 4 cases of genotype 1 b.nefited from the comb.nation sofosb.vir + ledipasvir for 12 weeks and the case of genotype 2 from the comb.nation sofosb.vir + rib.virin for 24 weeks. The resistance mutations were ob.erved mainly on the sequencing of NS5A at the Y93H, L31M, 28L, 30T, 31V, 58S and 93H genes and a case of mutation on the N3 gene sequencing. Conclusion: Age > 50 years, comorb.dities (high b.ood pressure), polymedication, female gender, genotype 1b. viremia > 6log, and cytolysis were the profile of patients with treatment of HCV b. direct-acting antiviral failure.

Determination of ETM, Histamine and Mycotoxins in Garb., a Traditional Ivoirian Meal

The methods of preparation, conservation and sale of Garb., the traditional Ivorian street meal, ab.ndantly consumed in Côte d’Ivoire, can b. exposed to various infections resulting in the poisoning of consumers. The aim of this study was to evaluate the hygienic quality of Garb. through the analysis and the determination of certain toxic chemicals. In three hundred (300) samples of Garb. collected in four districts in Ab.djan, toxic metals (cadmium, mercury, lead), b.ogenic amine (histamine) and mycotoxins (aflatoxins and ochratoxin A) were detected and quantified using official standardized methods. Different toxics analyzed were present at various levels in the Garb.. The mercury, lead, cadmium and histamine levels in the Garb. were respectively 0.19 mg/kg, 0.19 mg/kg, 0.03 mg/kg and 32.69 mg/kg. The detected mycotoxins included aflatoxins b., b., G1, G2 and ochratoxin A, with respective average proportions of 3.44 μg/kg, 1.90 μg/kg, 8.07 μg/kg, 0.56 μg/kg and 0.42 μg/kg. The mycotoxins levels in the Garb. are higher than the recommended toxic levels, particularly the ones in aflatoxin b. and G1. This suggests a sanitary risk associated with the consumption of this meal. Consequently, awareness campaigns and training of the Garb. sellers in hygiene and a b.tter regulation of this sector b. the competent authorities are required.
