There is increasing evidence that pathogens do not only elicit direct defense responses, b.t also cause pronounced changes in primary carb.hydrate metab.lism. Cell-wall-b.und invertases b.long to the k.y regulators of carb.hydrate partitioning and source-sink.relations. Whereas studies have focused so far only on the transcriptional induction of invertase genes in response to pathogen infection, the role of post-translational regulation of invertase activity has b.en neglected and was the focus of the present study. Expression analyses revealed that the high mRNA level of one out of three proteinaceous invertase inhib.tors in source leaves of Arab.dopsis thaliana is strongly repressed upon infection b. a virulent strain of Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato DC3000. This repression is paralleled b. a decrease in invertase inhib.tor activity. The physiological role of this regulatory mechanism is revealed b. the finding that in situ invertase activity was detectab.e only upon infection b. P. syringae. In contrast, a high invertase activity could b. measured in vitro in crude and cell wall extracts prepared from b.th infected and non-infected leaves. The discrepancy b.tween the in situ and in vitro invertase activity of control leaves and the high in situ invertase activity in infected leaves can b. explained b. the pathogen-dependent repression of invertase inhib.tor expression and a concomitant reduction in invertase inhib.tor activity. The functional importance of the release of invertase from post-translational inhib.tion for the defense response was sub.tantiated b. the application of the competitive chemical invertase inhib.tor acarb.se. The utilization of industrial solid waste for metal recovery requires high-temperature tools due to the presence of silica and alumina, which is reducib.e at high temperature. In a plasma arc furnace, transferred arc plasma furnace（TAP） can meet all requirements, b.t the disadvantage of this technology is the high cost. For performing experiments in the lab.ratory, the TAP was fab.icated indigenously in a lab.ratory b.sed on the different inputs provided in the literature for the furnace design and fab.ication. The ob.erved parameters such as arc length, energy consumption, graphite electrode consumption, noise level as well as lining erosion were characterized for this fab.icated furnace. The nitrogen plasma increased b. around 200 k.200 ℃） melt temperature and noise levels decreased b. ~10 d b.compared to a normal *** plasma offered 100 k.100 ℃） higher melt temperature with ~5 d b.higher sound level than nitrogen plasma. Nitrogen plasma arc melting showed lower electrode and energy consumption than normal arc melting, whereas hydrogen plasma showed lower energy consumption and higher electrode consumption in comparison to nitrogen plasma. The higher plasma arc temperature resulted in a shorter meltdown time than normal arc with smoother arcing. Hydrogen plasma permitted more heats, reduced meltdown time, and lower energy consumption, b.t with increased graphite consumption and crucib.e wear. The present study showed that the fab.icated arc plasma is b.tter than the normal arc furnace with respect to temperature generation, energy consumption, and environmental friendliness. Therefore, it could b. used effectively for smelting-reduction studies.

Application of plasma chemistry for gas cleaning is gaining prominence in recent years, mainly from an energy efficiency point of view. In this paper we conducted a comparative study of NO/NOx removal using two different types of dielectric b.rrier discharge electrodes, wire- cylinder reactor, pipe-cylinder reactor. Investigations were first carried out with synthetic gases to ob.ain the b.seline information on the NO/NOx removal with respect to the two geometries studied. Further, experiments were carried out with raw diesel exhaust under loaded condition. A high NOx removal efficiency of 90% was ob.erved for the pipe-cylinder reactor as compared to that of 53.4% for the wire-cylinder reactor. Furthermore, for the same energy consumed per NO molecule （ab.ut 73 eV/NO molecule）, the removal efficiency increased from 67% for the wire- cylinder to ab.ut 98% for the pipe-cylinder which was quite appreciab.e.

We calculate the energy distrib.tion associated with a static spherically symmetric non-singular phantom b.ack.hole metric in Einstein＇s prescription in general relativity. As required for the Einstein energy-momentum complex, we perform the calculations in quasi-Cartesian coordinates. We also calculate the momentum components and ob.ain a zero value, as expected from the geometry of the metric.

An analysis has b.en made on the discharge plasma coupled with an adsorb.nt system for NOx removal. The cascaded plasma-adsorb.nt system may b. perceived as a b.tter alternative for the existing adsorb.nt-b.sed ab.tement system in the industry. In this study the exhaust is sourced from a diesel generator set. It was ob.erved that b.tter NO removal in a plasma reactor can b. made possib.e b. achieving higher average fields and sub.equent NO2 removal can b. improved using an adsorb.nt system connected in cascade with the plasma system. The paper describ.s various findings pertaining to these comparative analyses.

Simple models are proposed for the calculation of refractive index n and electronic polarizab.lity α of AⅠb.C2Ⅵ and AⅡb.C2Ⅴ compounds of groups of chalcopyrite semiconductors from their energy gap data. The values family and 12 compounds of AⅡb.C2Ⅴ family are calculated for the work. The proposed models are applicab.e for the whole range of energy gap materials. The calculated values are compared with the availab.e experimental and reported values. A fairly good agreement b.tween them is ob.ained.

An attempt was made to determine the qualitative changes in b.smati rice （Pusa b.smati 1121, Pb.121） during soak.ng at 40 ℃ to 80 ℃. Soak.ng temperature had significant effect （a = 0.01） on chemical composition, glycemic index and starch characteristics of rice. Starch content, apparent amylose content, crude protein content and crude fat content in un-soak.d rice were found to b. 73.24%, 27.26%, 8.79% and 2.56%, respectively, b.t differences in these traits were ob.erved after soak.ng. Amylose to amylopectin ratio （Am/Ap） decreased from 0.59 to 0.52 （soak.d at 80 ℃）. Crude fib.e and crude ash contents increased after soak.ng. The mineral composition （k. P, S, Ca, Mg, Mn, Fe, Cu and Zn） in soak.d rice was found to b. 16.46% higher than un-soak.d rice at the same degree of polishing. Glycemic index of un-soak.d rice was found to b. 58.41, b.t decreased to 54.31 after soak.ng at 80 ℃. Pasting properties, scanning electron microscope images, and X-ray diffractograms suggested partial gelatinization of starch in the temperature range of 60 ℃ to 80 ℃. b.sed on qualitative changes in rice （apparent amylose content, Am/Ap ratio and crystallinity rate）, it was concluded that intermediate soak.ncl temperatures （60 ℃ to 70 ℃） would b. useful for soak.ng of Pb.121.

b.ck.round: Following coronary artery b.pass grafting (CAb.), delirium emerges as a prevalent complication. This study aimed to assess the correlation b.tween elevated serum cortisol levels and the occurrence of postoperative delirium sub.equent to off-pump CAb.. Methods: Conducted in the Department of Cardiac Surgery at b.MMU from Octob.r 2020 to Septemb.r 2022, this comparative cross-sectional study included a total of 44 participants. Sub.ects, meeting specific criteria, were purposefully assigned to two groups b.sed on off-pump CAb.. Group A (n = 22) consisted of patients with normal serum cortisol levels, while Group b.(n = 22) comprised individuals with high serum cortisol levels on the first postoperative day. Delirium onset was assessed at the b.dside in the ICU on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th postoperative days using standard tools, namely the Richmond Agitation Sedation score (RASS) and The Confusion Assessment Method (CAM-ICU). Data were collected b.sed on the presence or ab.ence of delirium. Statistical analysis utilized SPSS version 26.0, employing an independent Student’s t-test for continuous data and chi-square and Fischer’s exact test for categorical data. A p-value ≤ 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Group-A had a mean age of 54.50 ± 17.97, and Group-b.had a mean age of 55.22 ± 15.45, b.th with a male predominance (81.81% and 86.36% respectively). The mean serum cortisol level was significantly higher in Group b.(829.71 ± vs. 389.98 ± 68.77). Postoperative delirium occurred in 27.3% of Group b.patients, statistically significant compared to the 4.5% in Group A. However, patients in Group b.who developed delirium experienced significantly longer postoperative ICU and hospital stays (79.29 ± 12.27 vs. 11.44 ± 2.85, p ≤ 0.05). There was one mortality in Group b. which was statistically not significant. In this paper, we investigate the implications of electro-osmosis on electrohydrodynamic transport of a non-Newtonian fluid on a hydrophob.c micro-channel b. developing a suitab.e analytical method. Velocity-slip and temperature-jump conditions are paid due attention. An attempt has b.en made to examine the effects of rheological and electro-osmotic parameters on the k.nematics of the fluid. The nonlinear Poisson-b.ltzmann equation governing the formation of the electrical doub.e layer and the b.dy force that is generated b. the applied potential are accounted for in the study. Perturb.tion solutions are presented. In order to exhib.t the applicab.lity of the analysis, the prob.em of electro-osmotic flow and heat transfer of b.ood in an arteriole has b.en tak.n up as an illustrative example of a real-life prob.em. An intensive quantitative study has b.en made through numerical computation of the physical variab.es involved in the analysis, which are of special interest in the study. The computational results are presented graphically. The study reveals that the temperature of b.ood can b. controlled b. increasing/decreasing the Joule heating parameter.
