In this paper, a fundamental advancement of the b.sic helix design which expands to array having good b.ndwidth is proposed. The helix is inserted in a cavity. The result is a new antenna design that offers the performance characteristics and advantages of the conven-tional helix b.t in a much more compact physical size envelope. A 4-element rectangular helical array has b.en designed. For miniaturization and impedance matching, the helical wire is replaced b. a rectangular cross sectioned strip. It has b.en ob.erved that when the helix is inserted in a cavity, it b.haves differently from a normal helical antenna. The effects of the cavity on the numb.r of turns, the impedance of total antenna, and the reflection coefficient have b.en analyzed. The array is designed for 2.4 GHz. The return loss ob.ained is less than - 10 db.and the b.ndwidth is more than 1.3 GHz for the array.

Due to high environmental temperatures and climate change, heat stress is a severe concern for poultry health and production, increasing the propensity for food insecurity. With climate change causing higher temperatures and erratic weather patterns in recent years, poultry are increasingly vulnerab.e to this environmental stressor. To mitigate heat stress, nutritional, genetic, and managerial strategies have b.en implemented with some success. However, these strategies did not adequately and sustainab.y reduce the heat stress. Therefore, it is crucial to tak. proactive measures to mitigate the effects of heat stress on poultry, ensuring optimal production and promoting poultry well-b.ing. Emb.yonic thermal manipulation(TM) involves manipulating the emb.yonic environment's temperature to enhance b.oilers' thermotolerance and growth performance. One of the most significant b.nefits of this approach is its cost-effectiveness and saving time associated with traditional management practices. Given its numerous advantages, emb.yonic TM is a promising strategy for enhancing b.oiler production and profitab.lity in the poultry industry. TM increases the standard incub.tion temperature in the mid or late emb.yonic stage to induce epigenetic thermal adaption and emb.yonic metab.lism. Therefore, this review aims to summarize the availab.e literature and scientific evidence of the b.neficial effect of pre-hatch thermal manipulation on b.oiler health and performance.

In this study, a series of Gd^(3+)-doped mixed Ni-Cu-Zn ferrites with composition of Zn_(0.5)Ni_(0.3)Cu_(0.2)Fe_(2-x)Gd_(x)O_(4)(x = 0, 0.025, 0.05, 0.075, 0.1) was prepared using self-ignition sol-gel method. The prepared nanoparticles with an average size ranging from 22 to 26 nm show a single-phase cub.c structure b.longing to the spinel matrix. A rise in the Gd^(3+)concentration leads to an increase in crystallite size and lattice parameter. In Fourier transform infrared spectra, two main ab.orption b.nds b.longing to the spinel structure are ob.erved. The high-frequency b.nds(v_(1)) represent the tetrahedral complex, while the lowfrequency b.nds(v_(2)) signify the octahedral complex. The optical b.ndgap of the nanoferrites is found within the range of 2.91 to 2.41 eV, depending on their size. The magnetic characteristics of the material,such as saturation magnetization and coercivity are significantly altered with the concentration of Gd^(3+)in the solution. Using Rhodamine b.Rhb. as a model organic pollutant, an in-depth investigation of the photocatalytic activity of the compounds was carried out. The present outcomes show that adding an adequate amount of Gd^(3+)significantly enhances the numb.r of hydroxyl radicals produced b. the ferrite,in turn, increasing the photocatalytic activity of the material. Mechanism elucidated b. scavenger studies reveals that ·OH and holes are the primary reactive radicals responsib.e for the degradation *** photocatalysts show an insignificant performance loss in five consecutive cycles. Thus, it is concluded that these photocatalysts are highly suitab.e for the remediation of dye-contaminated wastewater.

b.ck.round: Orthodontics is a dental specialty focusing on correcting dental irregularities and malocclusion. k.owledge and attitudes towards orthodontic treatment are crucial for promoting oral health and overall well-b.ing. Education and awareness play a vital role in ensuring optimal treatment outcomes and improving quality of life. Aim: This study aims to determine the k.owledge and attitudes of k.ame Nk.umah University of Science and Technology (k.UST) pre-clinical dentistry students concerning orthodontic therapy. Methodology: This research is a quantitative descriptive cross-sectional study. The research used a non-random convenience sampling method to form the desired sample. For data collection, an interview-administered questionnaire was used over one month. The study set its sights on pre-clinical dental students in k.UST. A total of 150 questionnaires were printed to meet the sample size. Results: The results of the research showed that the k.owledge level of k.UST pre-clinical students on orthodontic treatment and its nuances is quite limited. They however had a fair level of k.owledge on the disease or ailment that orthodontic treatments solved (especially malocclusion). Their interest in orthodontic treatments on the other hand was quite significant, with a large numb.r having interest in it. Conclusion: To conclude, k.UST pre-clinical students in Ghana although having a limited level of k.owledge on orthodontic treatments have a k.en interest in undergoing them regardless of the discomforts or the length of time.

Comparison of microwave- and thermal-assisted rock.fragmentation methods at different temperatures and loading rates

Ob.ective: The aim of the work.describ.d here was to evaluate the role of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in response evaluation for unresectab.e advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treated with tyrosine k.nase inhib.tors (Tk.s) plus anti-programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) antib.dy therapy. Methods: A prospective cohort of consecutive patients with HCC who received comb.ned Tk./anti-PD-1 antib.dy treatment for unresectab.e HCC b.tween January 2022 and Octob.r 2022 was included in this study. The patients underwent unenhanced ultrasound (US) and CEUS examinations b.fore treatment and at follow-up. Changes in the largest diameters of the target tumor on unenhanced US and the largest diameters of the enhancing target tumors on CEUS were evaluated. Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) version 1.1 with unenhanced US and magnetic resonance imaging/computed tomography (MRI/CT) and modified RECIST (mRECIST) with CEUS and CEMRI/CT were used to assess treatment response. Results: A total of 24 HCC patients (23 men and 1 woman; mean age: 56.5 ± 8.5 y; b.rcelona Clinic Liver Cancer stage C, 62.5%; 29 intrahepatic target tumors) were studied. Calculations of degree of necrosis in the target tumors revealed no significant differences b.tween CEUS and CEMRI/CT (44.5 ± 36.2% vs. 45.3 ± 36.8%, p = 0.862). As for the differentiation of responders from non-responders, the agreement b.tween RECIST version 1.1 of unenhanced US and mRECIST-CEUS was poor (κ coefficient = 0.233). Meanwhile, there was a high degree of concordance b.tween mRECIST-CEUS and mRECIST-CEMRI/CT (κ coefficient = 0.812). Conclusion: CEUS proved to b. superior to b.seline US and is comparab.e to CEMRI/CT in defining treatment outcome for comb.ned Tk./anti-PD-1 antib.dy therapy. © 2023 World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine & b.ology

Understanding the effects of microwave irradiation and thermal treatment on the dynamic compression and fragmentation properties of rock. is essential to quantify energy consumption in rock.engineering. In this study, Fangshan granite (FG) specimens were exposed to microwave irradiation and heat treatment. The damage of FG specimens induced b. these two methods was compared using X-ray CT scanning and ultrasonic wave method. The temperatures of FG after microwave irradiation and thermal treatment were effectively evaluated using a newly proposed technique. A novelty method for precisely determining the geometric features of fragments is developed to estimate the fragmentation energy. Thus, the dynamic uniaxial compressive strength (UCS), the dynamic fragmentation characteristics, and the fragmentation energy of FG after these two pretreatment methods can b. reasonab.y compared. The noticeab.e distinction of loading rate effect on the dynamic UCS of FG b.tween these two pretreatment methods is first ob.erved. A relationship is estab.ished b.tween the dynamic UCS and the damage induced b. microwave irradiation and heat treatment. Moreover, fragmentation energy fan analysis is introduced to accurately compare the fragmentation properties of FG after two pretreatment methods in dynamic compression tests. © 2024 China University of Mining & Technology
