Enh.nced dielectric and optical properties of nanoscale b.rium h.xaferrites for optoelectronics and h.gh.frequency application

M-type b.rium h.xaferrites with.ch.mical composition b.1-xDyxFe12-yCryO19(x = 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, and y =0.0, 0.4, 0.5) were synth.sized via sol–gel auto-comb.stion meth.d. th. samples were pre-sintered at 400℃ for 3 h.and sintered at 950℃ for 5 h. th. ch.nges in th. structural, dielectric, and optical properties were studied after th. sub.titution of Dy3+and Cr3+ions. X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysis confirms th. formation of single ph.se h.xaferrites with.th. ab.ence of secondary ph.se. FtIR analysis gives an idea of th. formation of h.xaferrites with.th. appearance of two peaks at 438 cm-1and 589 cm-1. th. field emission scanning electron micrograph.(FESEM) sh.w a comb.nation of crystallites with.large sh.pes close to h.xagonal platelet-like sh.pe and oth.rs with.rice or rod-like sh.pes, wh.reas EDX and elemental analysis confirm th. stoich.ometry of prepared samples. th. calculated b.nd gap from UV-vis NIR spectroscopy spectra was found to decreases with.increase in Dy3+–Cr3+sub.titution. th. dielectric properties were explained on th. b.sis of Maxwell–Wagner model. Enh.ncement of dielectric constant at h.gh.r frequencies was ob.erved in all th. samples. Low dielectric loss is also ob.erved in all th. samples and Cole–Cole plot sh.ws th.t grain b.undary resistance(Rgb. contrib.te most to th. dielectric properties. th. prepared samples exh.b.t properties th.t could b. useful for optoelectronics and h.gh.frequency application.

A novel meth.d h.s b.en estab.ish.d to realize th. experiment of electron scattering off sh.rt-lived nuclei. th. meth.d was b.sed on th. well known ＂ion trapping＂ ph.nomenon in electron storage rings. In th. R^D experiments at kyoto University, stab.e nucleus, 133^Cs, was employed as th. target nucleus. th. luminosity of scattering experiment was nearly 1026 cm^-2s^-1 at electron b.am current around 75 mA. th. angular distrib.tion of elastically scattered electrons from trapped Cs ions was measured and th. result was well fitted b. th.oretical calculation. It was indicated th.t h.gh.r luminosity can b. reach.d with.larger electron b.am current.

Rare earth.element (REE) compositions of th. suspended sediments from th. rivers around th. Yellow Sea were different in th.t korean river sediments (h.n, keum and Yeongsan Rivers) yield stronger fractionations th.n Ch.nese river sediments (Ch.ngjiang, h.angh. and Yalujiang), sh.wn b. ob.ious enrich.ents of LREE (ligh. rare earth.element) relative to UCC (upper continental crust). Variations of source rock compositions in th. drainage b.sins are responsib.e for th. differences of REE compositions b.tween th. river sediments. REE fractionation parameters including (La/Yb.UCC and (Gd/Yb.UCC as well as th. ratios of La/Sc and th.Sc can b. treated as proper proxies for identifying th. Ch.nese river sediments from th.se korean river matters, and furth.rmore, for studying th. provenances and paleoenvironmental ch.nges of th. marginal seas of Ch.na.

th.s paper analyses th.ee popular meth.ds simulating granular flow at different time and length.scales： discrete element meth.d （DEM）, averaging meth.d and viscous, elastic-plastic continuum model. th. th.oretical models of th.se meth.ds and th.ir applications to h.pper flows are discussed. It is sh.wn th.t DEM is an effective meth.d to study th. fundamentals of granular flow at a particle or microscopic scale. b. use of th. continuum approach. granular flow can also b. describ.d at a continuum or macroscopic scale. Macroscopic quantities such.as velocity and stress can b. ob.ained b. use of such.computational meth.d as FEM. h.wever, th.s approach.depends on th. constitutive relationsh.p of materials and ignores th. effect of microscopic structure of granular flow. th. comb.ned approach.of DEM and averaging meth.d can overcome th.s prob.em. th. approach.takes into account th. discrete nature of granular materials and does not require any glob.l assumption and th.s allows a b.tter understanding of th. fundamental mech.nisms of granular flow. h.wever, it is difficult to adapt th.s approach.to process modelling b.cause of th. limited numb.r of particles wh.ch.can b. h.ndled with.th. present computational capacity, and th. difficulty in h.ndling non-sph.rical particles. Furth.r work is needed to develoo an aoorooriate aooroach.to overcome th.se prob.ems.

th. pressure dependence of th. molar volume was at constant temperatures close to th. melting point in b.nzene. th. molar volume of b.nzene was calculated using experimental data for th. th.rmal expansivity for constant temperatures of 25℃, 28.5℃, 40℃, and 51℃ at various pressures for b.th.th. solid and liquid ph.ses. th. predictions are in good agreement with.th. ob.erved volumes in b.th.th. solid and liquid ph.ses of b.nzene. th. predicted values of th. molar volume for a constant temperature of 28.5℃in th. liquid ph.se of b.nzene agree well with.experimental data in th. literature.

th. satisfaction rate of desired velocity in th. case of a mixture of fast and slow veh.cles is studied b. using a cellular automaton meth.d. It is found th.t at low density th. satisfaction rate depends on th. maximal velocity. h.wever, th. b.h.vior of th. satisfaction rate as a function of th. coefficient of variance is independent of th. maximal velocity. th.s is in good agreement with.empirical results ob.ained b. Lipsh.at [Ph.s. Rev. E 79 066110 （2009）]. Furth.rmore, our numerical result demonstrates th.t at low density th. satisfaction rate takes h.gh.r values, wh.reas th. coefficient of variance is close to zero. th. coefficient of variance increases with.increasing density, wh.le th. satisfaction rate decreases to zero. Moreover, we h.ve also sh.wn th.t, at low density th. coefficient variance depends strongly on th. prob.b.lity of overtaking.

Integrated ob.ervation platforms h.ve b.en set up to investigate consequences of glob.l ch.nge with.n a terrestrial network of ob.ervatories （tERENO） in Germany. th. aim of tERENO is to foster th. understanding of water, energy, and matter fluxes in terrestrial systems, as well as th.ir b.ological and ph.sical drivers. Part of th. Lower Rh.ne Valley-Eifel ob.ervatory of tERENO is located with.n th. Eifel National Park. Recently, th. National Park forest management started to promote th. nat- ural regeneration of near-natural b.ech.forest b. removing a significant proportion of th. spruce forest th.t was estab.ish.d for timb.r production after World War II. With.n th.s context, th. effects of such.a disturb.nce on forest ecosystem functioning are currently investigated in a deforestation experiment in th. Wtisteb.ch.catch.ent, wh.ch.is one of th. key experimental re- search.sites with.n th. Lower Rh.ne Valley-Eifel ob.ervatory. h.re, we present th. integrated ob.ervation system of th. Wiisteb.ch.test site to exemplarily demonstrate th. terrestrial ob.ervatory concept of tERENO th.t allows for a detailed mon- itoring of ch.nges in h.drological and b.ogeoch.mical states and fluxes triggered b. environmental disturb.nces. We present th. ob.ervation platforms and th. soil sampling campaign, as well as preliminary results including an analysis of data con- sistency. We specifically h.gh.igh. th. capab.lity of integrated datasets to enab.e improved process understanding of th. post-deforestation ch.nges in ecosystem functioning.
