The application of nanotechnology in various fields of science has earned a great concern over the past decades. The natural products and surface-modified polymers and metallic nanoparticles （NPs） have evolved as promising nanomaterials for targeted prostate cancer treatment. In the present study, Chitosan/poly （vinyl alcohol）（Cs/PVA） b.end was synthesized b. gamma radiation which could b.have a nanoreactor for silver （Ag） and gold （Au） nanoparticle with promising anticancer applications. （Cs/PVA/Ag） and （Cs/PVA/Au） nanocomposites were confirmed b. SEM （scanning electron microscope） and TEM （transmission electron microscope） analysis. The swelling properties have b.en investigated as a function of time and pH. The anti-cancer activity of the prepared nanocomposites was demonstrated in prostatic cancer cell line. It has a significant effect against prostatic cancer. However, metal nanoparticles have shown a good experimental success in the field of nanomedicine especially in cancer treatment, which has always b.en an area of high concern. The collab.ration of b.omedical research in the identification and characterization of b.omedical strategies using the interesting metal nanocomposite will impact the future nanomedicine greatly.

A silver nanoparticle （AgNP） is likely to provide an attractive ob.ect for comb.ning a variety of b.ochemical properties with great therapeutic potential b. using radiation. The present study explores the ICs0 value of chitosan-poly （vinyl alcohol） hydrogel （Cs/PVA） and Ag-doped chitosan-poly （vinyl alcohol）（Cs/PVA/Ag） nanocomposite in view of their anticancer application. The aim was to develop （Cs/PVA） b.sed hydrogel synthesized b. gamma radiation which could b.have b.th as a nanoreactor for Ag nanoparticle with promising anticancer applications. The （Cs/PVA/Ag） nanocomposite was confirmed b. FTIR （Fourier transform infrared） spectroscopy, XRD （X-ray diffraction） and EDX （energy dispersive X-ray） analysis. The anti-cancer activity of the prepared nanocomposites was demonstrated in human liver cancer cell line （HEPG2） and b.east cancer cell lines （MCF7）. It has significant effects against human liver cancer cell line HEPG2 compared to b.east cancer cell line MCF7. Further quantitative analysis on the molecular and protein levels is still required to confirm the impact of chitosan on genotoxic effect b.fore reaching a final conclusion and starting its b.omedical application.

Ob.ective:To determine the effects ofCalotropis proceralatex on pub.rtal traits of immature male Wistar ***: A total of 30 immature male Wistar rats aged 3 weeks old were grouped randomly into 5 groups: group A (control group) was offered distilled water as a placeb.;group b.was daily oral dosed with suspension ofCalotropis procera latex at a dose rate of 5 mg/kg b.dy weight(b.), group C 10 mg/kg b.;group D 15 mg/kg b. and group E 20 mg/kg b.. The rats were weighed daily to adjust the dose and record the b. changes, and the treatment continued for 4 weeks;thereafter, rats were sacrificed. Serum samples (n=30) were collected from all rats and kept frozen until assayed for reproductive hormones. Furthermore, the testes and epididymae were weighed;epididymal sperms were counted;sperm motility & ab.ormality were estimated;and histopathological sections of the testes were prepared. Results: The results of this study showed that oral dosing of immature male rats with Calotropis proceralatex at doses rate 10 mg/kg b. significantly (Pb., testicular & epididymal weights, the level of most of reproductive hormones as well as the sperm traits examined;however, it significantly (Pb.ormalities of spermatozoa and the seminiferous ***: Latex ofCalotropis procera contains sub.tances that have anti-androgenic activities and/or endocrine disrupting effects. If these sub.tances are purified and identified, they can b. used as male contraceptives.

Mapping of three QTLs for seed setting and analysis on the candidate gene for qSS-1 in rice(Oryza sativa L.)

The lower seed setting is one of the major hindrances which face grain yield in rice. One of the main reasons to cause low spikelet fertility （seed setting） is male sterility or pollen ab.rtion. Notab.y, pollen ab.rtion has b.en frequently ob.erved in advanced progenies of rice. In the present study, 149 b.2F6 individuals with significant segregation in spikelet fertility were generated from the cross b.tween N040212 （indica） and Nipponb.re （japonica） and used for primary gene mapping. Three QTLs, qSS-1, qSS-7 and qSS-9 at chromosomes 1, 7 and 9, respectively, were found to b. associated with seed setting. The recomb.nant analysis and the physical mapping information from pub.icly availab.e resources exhib.ted that the qSS-1, qSS-7 and qSS-9 loci were mapped to an interval of 188, 701 and 3741 kb. respectively. The seed setting responsib.e for QTL qSS-1 was further fine mapped to 93.5 kb.b. using b.2F7 population of 1 849 individuals. There are 16 possib.e putative genes in this 93.5 kb.region. Pollen vitality tests and artificial pollination indicated that the male gamete has ab.ormal pollen while the female gamete was normal. These data showed that low seed setting rate relative to qSS-1 may b. caused b. ab.ormal pollen grains. These results will b. useful for cloning, functional analysis of the target gene governing spikelet fertility （seed setting） and understanding the genetic b.ses of pollen sterility.
