Levels of Agricultural Pesticides in Sediments and Irrigation Water from Tono and Vea in the Upper East of Ghana

Water and sediment samples were taken from selected irrigation dams located at Tono and Vea in the Upper East Region of Ghana and analyzed for organic pesticides using gas chromatography. Sixteen organic residues were identified of which thirteen had at least some trace concentrations ranging from 0.001 to 25.4 μg/L. It was found in the lab.ratory that the concentrations of DDT, b.C and heptachlor were ab.ve the upper limited recommended b. WHO and the concentrations of DDT in b.th reservoirs were higher than 20 times the recommended limits. High concentrations of DDT were found in the water samples while the other two residues were identified in the sediments. The high DDT concentration in water was due to 1) the initial amount of DDT applied and the period in the reservoirs, 2) a half-life of 350 days suggested that much of the DDT originally used was not destroyed if applied less than this period, 3) its low solub.lity in water did not allow for dissolution and sub.equent dispersal in water;4) the indiscriminate uses of DDT for fishing as confirmed b. the local people The high DDT level suggested that the water is not safe for many aquatic organisms and even humans. Generally the levels of these organic residues suggested that the dams have b.en polluted due to human activities such as farming and the unorthodox method of fishing. Therefore, steps should b. taken to reduce the levels of DDT concentrations to preserve the aquatic life in the dams.

Ob.ective:To evaluate the effect of ureteral access sheath(UAS)use and calib.ation change on stone-free rate and complications of retrograde intrarenal surgery(RIRS).Methods:Data from 568 patients undergoing RIRS for kidney or upper ureteral stones were retrospectively ***,patients were compared after 1:1 propensity score matching,according to UAS usage during RIRS(UAS used[+]87 and UAS non-used[−]87 patients).Then all UAS+patients(n=481)were sub.ivided according to UAS calib.ation:9.5-11.5 Fr,10-12 Fr,11-13 Fr,and 13-15 *** outcomes of the study were the success and complications of ***:Stone-free rate of UAS+patients(86.2%)was significantly higher than UAS−patients(70.1%)after propensity score matching(p=0.01).Stone-free rate increased with higher calib.r UAS(9.5-11.5 Fr:66.7%;10-12 Fr:87.0%;11-13 Fr:90.6%;13-15 Fr:100%;pb.t was not statistically significant(p=0.09).UAS usage was an independent factor predicting stone-free status or peri-and post-operative complications(odds ratio[OR]3.654,95%confidence interval[CI]1.314-10.162;OR 4.443,95%CI 1.350-14.552;OR 4.107,95%CI 1.366-12.344,respectively).Conclusion:Use of UAS in RIRS may increase stone-free rates,which also increase with higher calib.r *** usage may reduce complications;however,complications seemingly increase with higher UAS calib.ation.

Hyperprolactinemia in Hospitals in Lomé: Diagnostic and Therapeutic Aspects

Introduction. Hyperprolactinemia represents a supraphysiological secretion of prolactin. In clinical practice, it is the most frequently encountered anterior pituitary disorder. However, its real prevalence is little known in Africa. The purpose of this study is to list all cases of hyperprolactinemia over the past four years and to make an inventory of the various etiologies found and their management. Methodology. This is a cross-sectional descriptive study on the files of patients who came for consultation in the internal medicine and endocrinology department with hyperprolactinemia retrospectively collected from January 2017 to Decemb.r 2020. Included were patients followed or whose the diagnosis of hyperprolactinemia was estab.ished in endocrinological consultation during the study period. Results. This study recorded 26 cases of hyperprolactinemia. The female sex represented 73.08% (sex ratio M/F 0.37) and the average age was 33.92 years. The 40 - 50 age group was the most represented with 30.77%. In women, galactorrhea accounted for 73.07%, amenorrhea 57.69% of clinical pictures and infertility 23.08%. In men, infertility accounted for 7.69% of presentations, gynecomastia 11.54% and erectile dysfunction 15.38%. The duration of evolution of the signs was 4 months in 23.08% of the patients. The mean prolactinemia was 702.58 ng/ml. CT was performed in 80.85% of patients. The main etiologies were pituitary adenomas (77%). All our patients were treated with dopaminergic agonists. Cab.rgoline was prescrib.d in 77% of patients. The evolution was favorab.e in 96.25% of patients. Conclusion. Hyperprolactinemia is a pathology that exists in our regions. The main etiology remains pituitary adenomas and treatment with cab.rgoline.

Ob.ective: The ob.ective of this study was to assess adherence to antidiab.tic therapy in type II diab.tic patients and factors associated with Lomé. Method: This was a descriptive ob.ervational study conducted among diab.tics in diab.tes care centers from May 1, 2020 to Octob.r 1, 2020, for a period of 6 months. Results: A total of 300 patients were questioned. The mean age was 56.61 years (standard deviation = 11.7). The sex ratio was 0.6. All the patients were on drug treatment, 83.4% of whom were on metformin and 37.5% on Glib.nclamide. In 58.3% of the cases, the patients were on dual therapy and 96.2% had an ab.venormal glycated hemoglob.n value. There was a medication adherence prob.em with poor adherence in 30.7%. b.ing aged 50 and over (ORC = 1.78, p = 0.048), playing sports (ORR = 1.87, p = 0.046), have reaching a higher level of education (ORR = 5.78, p = 0.005) significantly increased the chances of patients having a good/minimal prob.em of adherence. Conclusion: Diab.tes affects in Togo, more women than men with a predominance of those aged 50 and over. Adherence to therapy remains a challenge.

It is of great significance to design epoxy coatings with superior antib.cterial properties and high adhesive properties, as well as excellent processing, superior durab.lity, and high transparency. However, it is still a challenge b.cause of the common complex design and synthesis. Herein, the b.o-b.sed monomer protocatechuic acid(PCA) was used as raw material, the catechol structure with high b.nding and antib.cterial properties was introduced into the flexib.e alkane segment of ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether(EGDE) through an efficient, and green method, and it was cured with isophorone diamine(IPDA) to prepare corresponding thermosets. The cured resins exhib.ted excellent allaround qualities, particularly in b.nding and antib.cterial. When 30% PCA was added to pure epoxy resin, the adhesion b.tween sub.trate and coating increased from 4.40 MPa to 13.60 MPa and the antib.cterial rate of coating against E. coli and S. aureus could approach 100%. All of this is due to the fact that the catechol structure present in PCA has the ab.lity to interact with various sub.trates and alter the permeab.lity of b.cterial cell memb.anes. The architecture of this method offers a fresh approach to dealing with the issues of challenging raw material selection and complex synthesis techniques.

Ob.ective: This study evaluated the safety and efficacy of an anti-epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR) antib.dy(SCT200) and an anti-programmed cell death 1(PD-1) antib.dy(SCT-I10A) as third-line or sub.equent therapies in patients with rat sarcoma viral oncogene(RAS)/v-raf murine sarcoma viral oncogene homolog b.b.AF) wild-type(wt) metastatic colorectal cancer(mCRC).Methods: We conducted a multicenter, open-lab.l, phase Ib.clinical trial. Patients with histologically confirmed RAS/b.AF wt m CRC with more than two lines of treatment were enrolled and treated with SCT-I10A and SCT200. The primary endpoints were the ob.ective response rate(ORR) and safety. The secondary endpoints included disease control rate(DCR), progression-free survival(PFS), and overall survival(OS).Results: Twenty-one patients were enrolled in the study through January 28, 2023. The ORR was 28.57% and the DCR was 85.71%(18/21). The median PFS and OS were 4.14 and 12.84 months, respectively. The treatment-related adverse events(TRAEs) were tolerab.e. Moreover, compared with the monotherapy cohort from our previous phase I study evaluating SCT200 for RAS/b.AF wt m CRC in a third-line setting, no significant improvements in PFS and OS were ob.erved in the comb.nation ***: SCT200 comb.ned with SCT-I10A demonstrated promising efficacy in previously treated RAS/b.AF wt m CRC patients with an acceptab.e safety profile. Further head-to-head studies with larger sample sizes are needed to validate whether the efficacy and safety of comb.ned anti-EGFR and anti-PD-1 therapy are superior to anti-EGFR monotherapy in the third-line setting.(Registration No. NCT04229537).
