Hydrogen evolution kinetics on Ni cathodes modified by spontaneous deposition of Ag or Cu

Nickel modification by spontaneous deposition of transition metals such as Ag and Cu is shown as an economic and simple alternative for the activation of hydrogen evolution reaction（HER） on cathodes in alkaline media. The kinetics of HER is studied on Ni/Ag and Ni/Cu catalysts by cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy（EIS） using a rotating disk electrode（RDE）. Freshly synthesized catalysts, as well as catalysts subjected to a short chronoamperometric ageing procedure, are analyzed and the kinetic and thermodynamic parameters of the HER are obtained. The nickel surface modified with transition metals with an outer shell electronic configuration [xd;（x+1）s;], such as Cu(3d;4s;)and Ag(4d;5s;), shows an improved activity for the HER compared to bare nickel. Furthermore, the Ni/Cu catalyst presents a decreased onset potential. The hydrogen evolution rate, measured as current density at –1.5 V（vs. SCE）, is similar on Ni/Cu and Ni/Ag electrodes.

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) remains one of the major public health problems throughout the *** originally associated with tumorigenic processes,liver angiogenesis has also been observed in the context of different liver in-flammatory,fibrotic,and ischemic *** we investigate the fractal dimension as a quantitator of non-Euclidean two-dimensional vascular geometry in a series of paired specimens of primary HCC and surrounding non-tumoral tissue,and discuss why this parameter might provide additional information regarding cancer *** application of fractal geometry to the measurement of liver vascularity and the availability of a computer-aided quantitative method can eliminate errors in visual interpretation,and make it possible to obtain closer-to-reality numerals that are compulsory for any measurement process.

来自赫尔辛基心脏研究的资料证实,高脂血症经药物治疗后,以Ⅱ_b型患者冠心病发生率的下降最为明显。此外,在斯德哥尔摩进行的缺血性心脏病二级预防试验证实,安妥明与烟酸合用可使五年死亡率下降26％。上述二项研究均支持:(1)仅对甘油三酯>1.5mmol/L的心肌梗死幸存者,才能使死亡率降低;(2)甘油三酯降低越明显,死亡率下降亦越显著。因此,在试图延缓高甘油三酯血症患者动脉硬化进展方面,药物是能发挥作用的。

Patients with hormone receptor(HR)-positive tumors breast cancer usually experience a relatively low pathological complete response(p CR)to neoadjuvant chemotherapy(NAC).Here,we derived a 10-micro RNA risk score(10-mi RNA RS)-based model with better performance in the prediction of p CR and validated its relation with the disease-free survival(DFS)in 755 HRpositive breast cancer patients(273,265,and 217 in the training,internal,and external validation sets,respectively).This model,presented as a nomogram,included four parameters:the 10-mi RNA RS found in our previous study,progesterone receptor(PR),human epidermal growth factor receptor 2(HER2)status,and volume transfer constant(K).Favorable calibration and discrimination of 10-mi RNA RS-based model with areas under the curve(AUC)of 0.865,0.811,and 0.804 were shown in the training,internal,and external validation sets,*** who have higher nomogram score(>92.2)with NAC treatment would have longer DFS(hazard ratio=0.57;95%CI:0.39–0.83;P=0.004).In summary,our data showed the 10-mi RNA RS-based model could precisely identify more patients who can attain p CR to NAC,which may help clinicians formulate the personalized initial treatment strategy and consequently achieves better clinical prognosis for patients with HRpositive breast cancer.

background/Aims: The role of coffee in the development of hepatocellular carci noma (HCC) is debated. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of coff ee in HCC, taking the main risk factors into account. Methods: A hospital-based case-control study was conducted in an area of northern *** recruited 250 HCC cases and 500 controls hospitalized for any reasons other than neoplasms, a nd liver and alcohol-related diseases. Subjects were interviewed on their lifet ime history of coffee consumption using a standardized questionnaire. Results:Co ffee consumption in the decade before the interview was associated with a decrea sing risk of HCC with a clear dose-effect relation. With respect to non-drinki ng subjects, the odds ratios (ORs) were: 0.8, (95%CI 0.4-1.3) for 1-2 cups/da y,0.4 (95%CI 0.2-0.8) for 3-4 cups/day and 0.3 (95%CI 0.1-0.7) for 5 or mor e cups/day. The ORs for HCC decreased for drinking >2, compared to 0-2 cups/day of coffee, for an alcohol intake >80 g/day (OR from 5.7 to 3.3), for presence o f hepatitis b virus infection (OR from 16.4 to 7.3) or hepatitis C virus infecti on (OR from 38.2 to 9.0). Conclusions: Coffee drinking was inversely associated with HCC regardless of its aetiology.
