basin Geomorphology and Drainage Morphometry Parameters Used as Indicators for Groundwater Prospect: Insight from Geographical Information System(GIS) Technique

Influence of structural and lithological controls of various drainage patterns and their stream orientations（for 2nd, 3rd and 4th order steams） were identified to evaluate the direction and controlling factors of drainage network. To investigate the prospect of groundwater, hydrogeomorphological features of river basin viz. Mulki-Pavanje were identified and mapped. To evaluate the characteristics of the basin, different morphometric parameters（linear, areal and relief） were computed in sub-basin wise（Sb-I to-VII）. The linear parameters suggest drainage network is controlled by geomorphology. The form factor（Ff）, elongation ratio（Re） and circularity ratio（Rc） suggest that the basin is in an elongated shape. The drainage density（Dd） indicates resistant/permeable strata under medium-dense vegetation with moderate relief. The areal parameters of the sub-basins（except SbI and Ⅲ） indicates moderate ground-slopes associated with moderately permeable rocks, which promote moderate run-off and infiltration. Drainage texture（T） of the whole basin indicates coarse texture while the Sb-I, and Ⅲ showing an intermediate texture. The relief parameters namely ruggedness number（Rn） infers low basin relief and poor drainage density. To identify the most deficit/surplus zones of groundwater suitable weightages were assigned to the hydrogeomorphological units and morphometric parameters. The study reveal that the basin manifest that Sb-Ⅲ shall be most deficit zone of groundwater, whereas Sb-VII, VI and V are found to show increase in groundwater potentiality. Groundwater prospect area in this basin is estimated to be 7% area under poor, 44% area under moderate and 49% area under good to excellent. This paper demonstrated the potential application of geographical information system（GIS） techniques to evaluate the groundwater prospect in absence of traditional groundwater monitoring data.

The population of patients with end stage renal disease(ESRD) is increasing,lengthening waiting lists for kidney *** of the patients are not able to receive a kidney transplant in timely manner even though it is well established that patient survival and quality of life after kidney transplantation is far better when compared to being on dialysis.A large number of patients who desire a kidney transplant ultimately end up needing some form of dialysis *** of incident ESRD patients choose hemodialysis(HD) over peritoneal dialysis(PD) as the modality of choice in the United States,even though studies have favored PD as a better choice of pre-transplant dialysis modality than *** is largely underutilized in the United States due to variety of *** a part of the decision making process,patients are often educated how the choice regarding modality of dialysis would fit into their life but it is not clear and not usually discussed,how it can affect eventual kidney transplantation in the *** this article we would like to discuss ESRD demographics and outcomes,modality of dialysis and kidney transplant related *** have summarized the data comparing PD and HD as the modality of dialysis and its impact on allograft and recipient outcomes after kidney transplantation.

Antioxidant potential and physicochemical properties of protein hydrolysates from body parts of North Atlantic sea cucumber(Cucumaria frondosa)

Protein hydrolysates were prepared from North Atlantic sea cucumber(Cucumaria frondosa)body wall(bW),and processing by-product flower(FL)and internal organs(IN).Sea cucumber proteins from these three tissues were hydrolysed with selected endopeptidases and *** enzymes used were Alcalase(A),and Corolase(C)as endopeptidases and Flavourzyme(F)with both endo-and exopeptidase *** were employed individually or in combination under controlled *** hydrolysates so prepared were subsequently analysed for their antioxidant potential and functionalities in food systems for the first *** treated with the combination of A and F exhibited the highest radical scavenging activity against DPPH and AbTS *** highest metal chelation activity was observed for samples hydrolysed with the combination of enzymes(C+F and A+F).All treatments inhibited beta-carotene bleaching in an oil-in-water emulsion and TbARS production in a meat model *** addition,sea cucumber protein hydrolysates were more than 75%soluble over a pH range of 2–*** proteins were also effective in enhancing water holding capacity in a meat model system compared to their untreated *** amino acids of sea cucumber protein hydrolysates had desirable profiles with glutamic acid as the predominant component in samples *** findings demonstrate the desirable functionalities of hydrolysates from North Atlantic sea cucumber and their potential for use as functional food ingredients.

Trapping and manipulation of nano-objects in solution are of great interest and have emerged in a plethora of fields spanning from soft condensed matter to biophysics and medical *** report on establishing a nanofluidic system for reliable and contact-free trapping as well as manipulation of charged nano-objects using elastic polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)-based *** trapping principle is based on electrostatic repulsion between charged nanofluidic walls and confined charged objects,called geometry-induced electrostatic(GIE)*** gold nanoparticles as probes,we study the performance of the devices by measuring the stiffness and potential depths of the implemented traps,and compare the results with numerical *** trapping 100 nm particles,we observe potential depths of up to Q≅24 k_(b)T that provide stable trapping for many *** advantage of the soft material properties of PDMS,we actively tune the trapping strength and potential depth by elastically reducing the device channel height,which boosts the potential depth up to Q~200 k_(b)T,providing practically permanent contactfree *** to a high-throughput and low-cost fabrication process,ease of use,and excellent trapping performance,our method provides a reliable platform for research and applications in study and manipulation of single nano-objects in fluids.

A comparative study between haemocoagulase and adrenaline in type 1 tympanoplasty

Introduction: Haemostasis is a critical component of ear surgeries, which can be achieved by topical methods including simple manual pressure with gauze or cotton balls soaked with adrenaline, administration of haemostatic agents or vasoconstrictive materials. Objective: To compare efficacy of haemocoagulase and adrenaline in attaining middle ear haemostasis in type - 1 tympanoplasty with or without cortical mastoidectomy. To study the effect of haemocoagulase in middle ear. Materials and method: This is a prospective comparative study conducted in a tertiary care hospital from January 2013 to June 2014. Patients undergoing type 1 tympanoplasty with or without cortical mastoidectomy were divided into two groups. In group A (50 cases), cotton balls soaked in 2ml Haemocoagulase was used and in group b (50 cases) cotton balls soaked in 2 ml Adrenaline (1:1000 dilution) was used for middle ear haemostasis. The efficacy of haemocoagulase and adrenaline was compared. Results: The mean number of cotton balls used in haemocoagulase group in cases with congested middle ear mucosa was more than those used in the adrenaline group. Duration of surgery was more in haemocoagulase group (65 min) with congested mucosa, compared to adrenaline group (50 min). The mean blood pressure was significantly higher in adrenaline group compared to haemocoagulase group. Postoperative hearing improvement in both groups showed no significant difference with p value 0.694. Conclusions: Adrenaline is a better middle ear haemostatic than haemocoagulase. However, haemocoagulase can safely be used in patients with hypertension.

Defect induced room-temperature ferromagnetism and enhanced photocatalytic activity in Ni-doped ZnO synthesized by electrodeposition

Zn0.90Ni0.10O nanoparticles have been synthesized by single-bath two-electrode electrodeposition at constant voltage. X-ray diffraction, UV vis and photoluminescence studies reveal that a single-phase polycrystalline hcp wurtzite crystal structure of ZnO is evolved. The material consists of a large number of defects such as oxygen vacancy (Ov) and zinc interstitial (Zi). The magnetization study reveals that the sample exhibits room-temperature global ferromagnetism and the ferromagnetic ordering seems to be defect induced via bound magnetic polaron mechanism, and double exchange is also expected to have played role. Interesting optoelectronic properties have been found in the synthesized sample and the material seems to be a potential candidate to be used as a UV sensor. Such a transition metal doped ZnO based dilute magnetic semiconducting system exhibiting room-temperature ferromagnetism is likely to be first of its kind in the sense that such materials have not yet been reported to be synthesized by the simple method of electrodeposition to the best of our knowledge on the basis of ample literature review.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs(NSAIDs) have been successfully used for the alleviation of pain and inflammation in the past and continue to be used daily by millions of patients worldwide. However, gastrointestinal(GI) toxicity associated with NSAIDs is an important medical and socioeconomic problem. Local generation of various reactive oxygen species plays a significant role in the formation of gastric ulceration associated with NSAIDs therapy. Co-medication of antioxidants along with NSAIDs has been found to be beneficial in the prevention of GI injury. This paper describes the synthesis and biological evaluation of N-1-(phenylsulfonyl)-2-methylamino-substituted-1H-benzimidazole derivatives as anti-inflammatory analgesic agents with lower GI toxicity. Studies in vitro and in vivo demonstrated that the antioxidant activity of the test compounds decreased GI toxicity.
