Contralateral eye study of refractive,topographic and aberrometric outcomes after femtosecond assisted Myo Ring implantation and DALK for management of keratoconus

AIM：To evaluate the efficacy of femtosecond laser assisted MyoRing intrastromal corneal implant and deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty （DALK） for management of moderate to advanced keratoconus regarding the degree of changes in visual acuity, refraction, corneal asphericity and ***：A prospective non comparative interventional case study was conducted in Ophthalmology Department,Ain Shams University Hospital in the period from January 2015 to February 2017. The study included 30 eyes of moderate to advanced keratoconus. MyoRing was implanted in one eye （Group Ⅰ） and DALK operation was performed in the contralateral eye of the same patient （Group Ⅱ）.Preoperative and 6mo post-operative uncorrected visual acuity（UCVA）, corrected distance visual acuity （CDVA）, spherical equivalent （SE）, corneal and refractive astigmatisms,keratometry and Q-value using topography images were acquired. Quality of vision was assessed in all eyes including total corneal, anterior corneal high order aberrations analysis at 5 mm pupil size and the Strehl ratio of point spread function （PSF） as an objective measure of ***：Mean postoperative UCVA, CDVA, SE, refractive astigmatism,keratometryreadingsandasphericity were statistically improved compared to preoperative parameters in both groups （P〈0.05）. Significant reduction of all corneal aberrations following both techniques（P〈0.05） was achieved except mean trefoil and mean PSF in Group Ⅰ （P〉0.05）. Postoperative corneal aberrations were significantly lower in Group Ⅱ compared to Group Ⅰ.A statistically significant negative correlation was found in Group Ⅰ between the mean change in CDVA （logMAR）and the mean preoperative and mean postoperative total corneal aberrations root mean square （RMS; r=-0.78,P=0.04）. Also a statistically significant negative correlation was found between mean preoperative coma RMS and mean post PSF （r=-0.86, P=0.01）. In chemical enhanced oil recovery(CEOR),it is very important to utilize the excessive usage of chemicals.A great opportunity lies in adopting natural surfactants,since it is cheaper,ecosystem friendly,and less toxic than their counterpart synthetic *** the availability of natural surfactant sources,it is yet very early to decide on their ***,this research focuses on natural-saponin extracted from different raw materials available in the Middle East and their interaction with quartz-sand.A special focus was given to the adsorption isotherm models to describe the interaction with the reservoir *** raw materials were investigated are fenugreek,sugar beet leaves and *** main extraction method employed was the chemical extraction using the *** study used Uv–vis spectrometer to investigate the micellization behaviour and the consequent adsorption on *** presence of triterpenoid saponin is found dominant in all the sample,the intensity and purity differed according to the raw material *** critical micelle concentration(CMC)was at a close range of 4–5.5 wt%in all the *** highest adsorption was obtained by sugar beet leaves which is 192 g/*** is 25%and 37%higher than the Fenugreek and chickpeas,*** the salinity resulted in adsorption reduction between 2%and 56%.For the adsorption isotherms,it showed good agreement with the Langmuir model *** remarkable finding is that the sugar beet leaves heterogeneous model seems to be valid by Frendluich and Halsey isotherms.

AIM： To investigate the association between serum insulin-like growth factor 1 （IGF-1）, osteocalcin, and parathyroid hormone （PTH） levels with the etiology and clinical condition of patients with chronic liver disease. METHODS： Eighty children with hepatocellular damage were divided into 3 groups according to the etiology of disease infection： bilharziasis （9 patients）, hepatitis B virus （HBV, 12 patients） and hepatitis C virus （HCV, 29 patients）. The Child score index was found as A in 24 patients, B in 22 patients, C in 4 patients. Thirty healthy children served as control ***, HBcAbIgM, HBcAbIgG, and anti-HCV were detected using ELISA technique. HCV-RNA was measured by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction （RT-PCR）. Antibllharzial antibodies were detected by indirect haemagglutination test. Liver function tests were performed using autoanalyser. Serum IGF-1, osteocalcin and PTH levels were measured by ELISA technique. Abdominal ultrasonography was also conducted. RESULTS： Serum IGF-1 level was significantly lower in all patient groups with liver diseases, while serum osteocalcin and PTH levels were significantly elevated in patients with HBV and HCV infections compared with the control group. Serum osteocalcin and PTH concentrations were measured with the severity of liver disease from Child A to C. Child A patients unexpectedly showed significantly reduced IGF-1 levels in comparison to patients staged as Child B or C. Serum osteocalcin level was negatively correlated with albumin （14.7 ± 0.54 vs 3.6 ± 0.10, P 〈 0.05）, while that for PTH was positively correlated with total protein （70.1 ± 2.17 vs 6.7 ± 0.10, P 〈 0.05） in patients with HCV infection.

AIM: To study the effects of ferulic acid on gastrointe-stinal motility both in vitro and in ***: Ferulic acid induced concentration-dependent stimulation of the basal tone of isolated guinea pig ileum (2-20 μmol/L) and isolated rat fundus (0.05-0.4 mmol/L). RESULTS: Ferulic acid significantly accelerated the gastrointestinal transit and gastric emptying in rats in a dose-dependent manner (50-200 mg/kg, po). Cisplatin (2.5-20 mg/kg, ip) induced a dose-dependent delay in gastric emptying in rats. Pretreatment with ferulic acid dose-dependently, significantly reversed the cisplatin-induced delay in gastric emptying. CONCLUSION: The endogenous prostaglandins (PGs) are involved in mediating the stimulant effects of ferulic acid. This effect of dietary ferulic acid may help improve other accompanying gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal discomfort and also may protect against emesis induced by cytotoxic drugs.

Battery Energy Storage System(BESS)is one of the potential solutions to increase energy system flexibility,as BESS is well suited to solve many challenges in transmission and distribution *** of distribution network’s challenges,which affect network performance,are:(i)Load disconnection or technical constraints violation,which may happen during reconfiguration after fault,(ii)Unpredictable power generation change due to Photovoltaic(PV)penetration,(iii)Undesirable PV reverse power,and(iv)Low Load Factor(LF)which may affect electricity *** this paper,the BESS is used to support distribution networks in reconfiguration after a fault,increasing Photovoltaic(PV)penetration,cutting peak load,and loading valley *** paper presents a methodology for BESS optimal locations and sizing considering technical constraints during reconfiguration after a fault and PV power generation *** determining themaximumpower generation change due to PV,actual power registration of connected PV plants in South Cairo Electricity Distribution Company(SCEDC)was considered for a *** addition,the paper provides a procedure for distribution network operator to employ the proposed BESS to perform multi functions such as:the ability to absorb PV power surplus,cut peak load and fill load valley for improving network’s *** methodology is applied to a modified IEEE 37-node and a real network part consisting of 158 nodes in SCEDC *** simulation studies are performed using the DIgSILENT PowerFactory software andDPL programming *** Mixed Integer Linear Programming optimization technique(MILP)in MATLAB is employed to choose the best locations and sizing of BESS.

The ecological risk assessment for Al,Zn,Cu,Ni,V,Pb,Cd,and Hg in surface sediment collected from the Egyptian Red Sea coast was evaluated using the Geo-accumulation Index(Igeo).Sediment Enrichment Factor（SEF） and Potential Ecological Risk Index（PERI） *** predominant heavy metal,aluminum,showed high concentrations along both of Aqaba Gulf（4378.8 ± 2554.1 μg/g） and southern part of the Red Sea（2972.8 + 1527.5 μg/g）.while it recorded the lowest concentration in Suez Gulf（829.7 ± 398.2 μg/g）.The determined heavy metal concentrations had the order of Al > Zn >-Ni > V > Pb > Cu > Cd > *** statistical analyses showed some correlations among the heavy metals *** international sediment quality guidelines were used to estimate the quality of the collected ***,the recorded average heavy metals concentrations were lower than those of the permissible contents for sediment quality *** Geo-accumulation index calculations(Igeo) proved that the investigated region could be classified as an unpolluted *** Enrichment Factor(KSEF) study showed high values in Suez Gulf *** single pollution index analysis of heavy metals in the sediments（Ci_f） indicated that Al,Zn,V,and Pb were of natural origin,while Ni,Cd and Hg were seriously affected by human ***,amongst,all the determined heavy metals,Cd and Hg gave moderate ecological risk indicators.

The power consumption is considered to be the most important factor affecting the production cost of fer romanganese alloy. Different parameters affecting the energy consumption for industrial production of high carbon ferromanganese HCFeMn were investigated in a closed submerged arc furnace. The analysis of industrial data revealed that the most energy consumed factors were the direct reduction by solid carbon, Boudouard reaction, metal and slag formation, and decomposition of fluxing materials （limestone and dolomite）. To reduce the energy con- sumption and minimize the energy losses in the production process of HCFeMn, it was recommended to use Mn blend with minimum Mn to Fe ratio of 6 and lower SiO2 content or higher basicity. The added coke must be adjusted according to the material balance to prevent the over-coke and to minimize the highly endothermic ＂Boudouard reac tion＂. In addition, it was recommended to work at basic slags with the ratio of （CaO＋MgO） to Si（）2 equal to 1.0- 1.2 instead of much higher slag basicity. Furthermore, the mass losses had to be minimized through adjusting the handling and charging process and to take care of all metal produced.
