Assessment of Standard Criteria Implementation in Heamodialysis Water Treatment Units in Sharkia Governorate

Introduction: Haemodialysis is the most well-established form of treatment for ESRD. Method: To evaluate the implementation of standard criteria in heamodialysis water treatment units in Sharkia governorate and to determine the weak points in application of standard criteria, and reach the optimal standards to improve pt. outcomes, across the sectional study was conducted at 30 heamodialysis units of Sharkia governorate, using a modified questionnaire was developed based on MOH protocol and international guidelines such as CARI guidelines, AAMI guidelines and others by the researchers. All data were collected, tabulated and statistically analyzed using SPSS 22.0 for windows (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). Results: Of the 30 units, the majority more than 80% of the units achieved the infrastructure and schematic structure, contain water purification devices, good infection control policies, proper chemical disinfection, good monitoring and quality control, accepted maintenance technician evaluation and collected processed water samples results matched decree of 63 for 1996. Conclusion: Most of the studied units nearly fulfilled the standard specifications of both MOH and AAMI. Ensuring that water quality meets AAMI standards and recommendations will minimize patient exposure to potential contaminants such as chemical hazards and endotoxemia associated with the use of the treated water for HD.

The Zeit sand reservoir is one of the most prolific formations at Northwestern side of the Gulf of *** this research we will try to coordinate between electrical,petrophysical properties,depositional environment and facies discrimination in order to evaluate the hydrocarbon potentiality of studied Zeit *** statistical parameters for potassium(K),thorium(Th)and Th/U ratio contents have a general increase towards northwestern parts,whereas uranium(U)content has a general increase towards southeastern *** sandstone facies is distinguished from the other facies by its thorium content>4 ppm.U has high carbonate content(U≥1 ppm).Rocks'electrical properties vary greatly depending on a number of *** measurements were taken at frequencies range of(5×10^(-4)Hz-100 kHz)for fully saturated samples(clayey sandstone)with NaCl(20 gm/L).As salinity,clay content,and frequency increase,consequently does the electrical *** continental condition are present in northwestern part(back-sea)which is distinguished by high K percent,high Th,high Th/U ratio,and low U *** K,Th,and Th/U ratio contents,with high U contents,characterize the marine depositional environment that existed around the east and southeastern parts(foresea coincide with the dipping of strata).Furthermore,the studied Zeit Formation has good petrophysical properties that coincide with marine *** middle and eastern parts(around ISS-94 and CSS-288)is a good reservoir(porosity 36%-39%,shale content<15%,hydrocarbon saturation 71%-92%,and net pay thickness 17-63 feet).

Optimization of double chamber microbial fuel cell for domestic wastewater treatment and electricity production

Microbial fuel cells(M FCs)represent a new approach for treating w aste w ater along w ith electricity *** present study addressed electricity production from domestic w astew ater using a mediator-less double chamber M *** electricity production w as monitored under different operational conditions for both summer and w inter *** of the anodic and cathodic chambers resulted in a maximal current of 0.784 and 0.645 m A w ith the maximal pow er intensity of 209 and 117 m W/m2in pow er duration of 24 h for the summer and w inter samples,*** electron microscopy show ed that the bacterial biofilm formation on the anode w as denser for the summer sample than that w hen the w inter sample w as used,so w as the total bacterial ***,samples taken during summer w ere considered better in electricity production and w aste w ater treatment than those taken during w inter basically because of the high microbial load during the hot *** parallel,there w as a decrease in both biological oxygen demand(BOD5)and chemical oxygen demand(COD)values which reached 71.8%and 72.85%,respectively at the end of the operation process for the summer sample,w hile there w as no evident decrease for the w inter *** the operating conditions not only increased the potential of using domestic w aste w ater in microbial fuel cells to produce electricity,but also improved the quality of the domestic w aste w ater.

Biochemical changes in phenols,flavonoids,tannins,vitamin E,β-carotene and antioxidant activity during soaking of three white sorghum varieties

Objective:To investigate the changes in total phenols,flavonoids,tannins,vitamin E, β-carotene and antioxidant activity during soaking of three white sorghum ***: The changes in total phenols,total ilavonoids,tannins,phenolic acids compounds,flavonoid components,vitamin E,P-carotene and antioxidant activity during soaking of sorghum grains were ***:Total phenols,total flavonoids,tannins,vitamin E,P-carotene and antioxidant activity in raw sorghum were ranged from 109.21 to 116.70,45.91 to 54.69,1.39 to 21.79 mg/100 g,1.74 to 5.25,0.54 to 1.19 mg/kg and 21.72%to 27.69%and 25.29%to 31.97%,respectively. The above measured compounds were significantly decreased after soaking.p-Hydroxybenzoic acid,vanillic acid,syringic acid and cinnamic acid represent the major phenolic acids in Dorado *** ferulic acid,p-coumaric acid,gallic acid and caffeic acid represent the major phenolic acids in *** the other hand,protocatechuic acid represents the major phenolic acids in *** flavonoids components,Dorado was the highest variety in kampferol and naringenin while Shandaweel-6 was the highest variety in luteolin, apigenin,hypersoid,quercelin and ***,Giza-15 was the highest variety in catechin. Phenolic acids,flavonoid compounds and antioxidant activities were decreased after soaking. Conclusions:Sorghum varieties have moderate quantities from total phenols,total flavonoids, tannins,phenolic acids compounds,flavonoid components,vitamin E,P-carotene and antioxidant activity which decreased after soaking.

The vitreomacular interface in different types of agerelated macular degeneration

AIM： To evaluate the vitreomacular interface in cases with wet age-related macular degeneration（AMD） and to compare them to eyes with dry AMD and normal ***： This was a cross-sectional comparative study that included 87 eyes with wet AMD,42 eyes with dry AMD and 40 eyes without AMD as a control *** coherence tomography（OCT） examination was performed for all patients to assess the vitreomacular ***： In the wet AMD group,34.5% of cases had vitreomacular adhesion（VMA）.Only 14.3% of dry AMD cases and 10% of control cases had *** was a significant difference between the control group and the wet AMD group（P=0.004） as well as the dry and wet AMD group（P=0.017）.There was also a significant difference between the incidence of VMA in patients with subretinal choroidal neovascularization（CNV,type 1） and intraretinal CNV（type 2 or type 3）（P=0.020）.CONCLUSION： There is an association between posterior vitreous attachment and *** is also an increased incidence of VMA with intra-retinal CNV.

Comparative study of natural chemical for enhanced oil recovery: Focus on extraction and adsorption at quartz sand surface

In chemical enhanced oil recovery(CEOR),it is very important to utilize the excessive usage of chemicals.A great opportunity lies in adopting natural surfactants,since it is cheaper,ecosystem friendly,and less toxic than their counterpart synthetic *** the availability of natural surfactant sources,it is yet very early to decide on their ***,this research focuses on natural-saponin extracted from different raw materials available in the Middle East and their interaction with quartz-sand.A special focus was given to the adsorption isotherm models to describe the interaction with the reservoir *** raw materials were investigated are fenugreek,sugar beet leaves and *** main extraction method employed was the chemical extraction using the *** study used Uv–vis spectrometer to investigate the micellization behaviour and the consequent adsorption on *** presence of triterpenoid saponin is found dominant in all the sample,the intensity and purity differed according to the raw material *** critical micelle concentration(CMC)was at a close range of 4–5.5 wt%in all the *** highest adsorption was obtained by sugar beet leaves which is 192 g/*** is 25%and 37%higher than the Fenugreek and chickpeas,*** the salinity resulted in adsorption reduction between 2%and 56%.For the adsorption isotherms,it showed good agreement with the Langmuir model *** remarkable finding is that the sugar beet leaves heterogeneous model seems to be valid by Frendluich and Halsey isotherms.

Efficacy and Safety of Ombitasvir plus Paritaprevir,Ritonavir and Ribavirin in Non-cirrhotic Treatment-naive and Treatment-experienced Egyptians with Chronic HCV Genotype-4 Infection

Hepatitis C virus genotype 4(HCV-GT4)is a risk factor for cirrhosis,hepatocellular carcinoma and liver failure.A combination of three new direct-acting antivirals ombitasvir,paritaprevir,and ritonavir has been recommended for treatment of HCV-GT4 *** current study was aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of this combination plus ribavirin in non-cirrhotic,treatment-naive and-experienced Egyptians with HCV-GT4 infection in a real-world setting.A total of 255 Egyptians with HCV-GT4 infection were enrolled,including 82 treatment-experienced and 173 treatment-naive *** of them completed 12-week treatment protocol of ombitasvir,paritaprevir and ritonavir as an oral dose combination with *** response(VR)was measured,as well as the biochemical parameters related to treatment efficacy and adverse events at baseline and after treatment,at 4(VR4)and 12(VR12)weeks *** results showed that the VR4 rates were 98.8%in both groups,and VR12 rates were 97.7%and 96.3%in treatment-naive and-experienced patients,respectively,with no significant differences found between the groups concerning VR4(P=0.9)and VR 12(P=0.3).The most common adverse events were headache and fatigue,which were significantly more common(P=0.001 and 0.003,respectively)in treatment-experienced than in treatment-naive *** quadruple regimen was well-tolerated,and the reported adverse events were generally mild to *** real-world setting study confirms that the combination of ombitasvir,paritaprevir,ritonavir,and ribavirin is highly effective in the treatment of HCV-GT4 infection with a good safety and tolerability profile.

Knowledge and performance among nurses before and after a training programme on patient falls

Background: Patient falls in hospitals are common and affect approximately 2% to 17% of patients during their hospital stay. Patient falls are a nursingsensitive quality indicator in the delivery of inpatient services. Objective: To assess the effect of educational training program on nurses’ knowledge and performance regarding prevention of fall at one of the health insurance organization hospitals in Alexandria. Setting: The study was conducted at 284 bed general hospital affiliated with the Health Insurance Organization in Alexandria. Design: A quasi-experimental design was followed. Participants: The study sample included all nurses of different ranks working at four departments namely, orthopedic, medical, surgical, ICU unit. Results: There was a significant difference regarding all factors under study before and after the educational programme except for two individual factors, old age (p = 0.84), overall poor health status (p = 0.38), and two health factors, uses aids (p = 0.50), treatment by heparin (p = 1.00), and two environmental factors, poor lighting (p = 0.34), loose cords or wires (p = 0.30) and bells (p = 0.30), and one miscellaneous factor, patient education (p = 0.85) and tidy environment(p = 0.85). All departments showed posttest performance improvement, the total performance median for departments regarding environmental factor (p = 0.04) and health education (p = 0.001). Conclusion: Education programmes should be regularly, updated in view of changing knowledge and work practices.

Response of different corn populations to fertigated nitrogen and certain micronutrients in sandy soil

A field study was conducted during 2008 and 2009 at el-Khattara farm station, Zagazig Uni-versity, Sharkyia, Egypt (30°36' N, 32°15' E) to determine the effect of three N rates (214, 273, and 333 kg N ha-1), four micronutrients spray treatments (Check, Zn, Mn, and Zn + Mn), and three planting density levels ( 4.76, 5.71, and 6.66 plant m-2) on growth and grain yield of corn (Zea mays, L). The soil was sandy (Entisols) and groundwater was used for irrigation. Response to N was maximized to 214 kg ha-1 without a significant effect on most growth traits and grain yield. Agronomic efficiency of N use for grain yield was negatively related to N rate (r2 = 0.49). Application of micronutrients had no ef-fect on most growth and yield characters except a significant increase by 9.5, 8.7, and 9 % in plant weight (g plant-1), biomass yield (kg m-2), and N agronomic efficiency for biomass yield, respectively. Growth was decreased by in-creasing plant density without affecting harvest index, agronomic efficiency, biomass yield, and grain yield. The application of Zn to the highest maize plant density increased grain yield by 16 % as compared to the check. It is recommended, as predicated by the linear model, that N ferti-gation rate should be around 220 kg ha-1 with plant density of 6.66 plant m-2 accompanied by Zn application for maximum irrigated corn grain yield in sandy soil. Effect of Catharanthus roseus (Vince rosea) and Turmeric (Curcuma longa) Extracts as Green Corrosion Inhibitors for Mild Steel in 1 M HCl

The corrosion inhibition of mild steel by Catharanthus roseus (Vince rosea) and Turmeric (Curcuma longa) extracts as green inhibitors in 1 M HCl solutions has been investigated by using potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), hydrogen evolution measurements and scanning electron microscope (SEM) techniques. Results obtained show that these investigated compounds are good inhibitors and act as mixed type inhibitors. The inhibition efficiencies increase with increasing inhibitor concentration. The SEM results show the formation of protective film on the mild steel surface in the presence of Catharanthus roseus and Turmeric extracts. The results obtained from different tested techniques are in good agreement.
