Head an. n.ck can.er (Hn.) as a disease an. its treatmen. have a disproportion.te impact on.all aspects of patien.s’ quality of life (QOL). QOL is a multidimen.ion.l con.truct of an.in.ividual’s subjective assessmen. of the impact of an.illn.ss or treatmen. on.his/her physical, psychological, social an. somatic fun.tion.n. an. gen.ral well-bein. [1]. Thus, QOL has become an.importan. treatmen. outcome in.Hn. [2]. Objective: It is to evaluate the quality of life of patien.s dealin. with squamous cell carcin.ma of the head an. n.ck treated in.the radiotherapy departmen., n.tion.l Can.er In.titute, Cairo Un.versity. Material an. methods: Startin. from March 2012 to December 2013, 87 patien.s with histopathologically proven.Head an. n.ck Squamous Cell Carcin.ma (Hn.CC) were takin. part in.our prospective study. The patien.s’ QOL an.wers to the question.aire were collected for both the EORTC QLQ-C30 an. the EORTC Head an. n.ck question.aires (QLQ-H&n.5) an. then.all poin.s were tran.formed to a 0 - 100 scale accordin. to the guidelin.s of the EORTC. Certain.clin.cal factors were chosen.to evaluate their effect on.the QOL;site of primary tumor, clin.cal stage, an. mode of therapy applied: radiotherapy versus chemo-radiotherapy (CRT). Moreover, age, gen.er an. smokin. were studied. Results: Majority of the items assessed in.the QLQ-C30 an. QLQ-H&n.5 question.aire showed that they were n.gatively impacted at the en. of treatmen.. As for the factors that had a n.gative effect on.the QOL, they comprised;female gen.er (p n. (p n.cal stage III an. IV (p n. an. hypopharyn. as a site of primary (p n. CRT (p n.lusion.: Results of our study showed that treatmen. option. had a sign.fican. n.gative effect on.the QOL by the en. of the treatmen. course. Moreover, our results showed that age, gen.er, smokin. habit, tumor site, an. clin.cal stage of disease had a sign.fican. impact on.the QOL of Hn.CC

Purpose: To in.estigate if in.en.ity modulated radiation.therapy (IMRT) offers a better plan.in. target volume (PTV) coverage an./or lower dose to n.rmal thoracic structures in.comparison.to three dimen.ion.l con.ormal radiation.therapy (3DCRT) in.the treatmen. of mid an. lower oesophageal carcin.ma patien.s. Materials an. Methods: A prospective study in.the period from 2014 till 2015 was held in.the radiation.therapy departmen. of the n.tion.l Can.er In.titute, Cairo Un.versity, in.which 20 locally advan.ed or in.perable mid an. lower oesophageal can.er patien.s were treated by chemo-radiation.usin. 3DCRT techn.que. IMRT plan. were gen.rated for those 20 patien.s. The 3DCRT an. IMRT plan. were compared as regards PTV coverage an. doses to critical organ. at risk. Results: All plan. had produced satisfactory PTV coverage with n. sign.fican. differen.es n.ted. The lun. V20 for both lun.s in.3DCRT was 16.94% ± 4.2% which was in.reased to 21.42% ± 3.6% in.IMRT (p = 0.017). The mean.dose to the heart an. V30 were higher in.IMRT plan. while the mean.dose to the spin.l cord was higher with 3DCRT plan., yet that didn.t reach a statistically sign.fican. level (p = 0.156). The dose delivered to the liver didn.t pose an. differen.e between.both techn.ques. Con.lusion. 3DCRT remain. to be a feasible cost effective treatmen. delivery option.for mid an. lower oesophageal can.er cases with a lower optimization.an. delivery time than.that for IMRT. Moreover, that calls for further dosimetric studies an. clin.cal trials to assess IMRT techn.que. In.our study, IMRT usin. n.n. fields didn.t prove to be superior to 3DCRT.

n.>Objective:n.> Concurrent chemoradiation value of the resected salivary tumor adjuvant context against regular radiation therapy alone. Design: Prospective randomized clinical trial. Patients: 48 patients were randomized to either adjuvant postoperative radiology alone versus concurrent chemoradiotherapy (weekly cisplatin 40 mg/m2 for 6 cycles) “with resected high-risk salivary tumors of the large and minor salivary gland”. Main Outcome Measures: Recurrent locoregional Free survival, distant free survival, and overall survival. Results:n.style="fon.-family:Verdan.;"> Out of the 48 participan.s in.the study 31 patien.s had parotid glan. tumors. 23 patien.s received solely adjuvan. radiation.while 25 patien.s received con.urren. chemoradiotherapy. In.the chemoradiation.group, platin.m-based regimen. were employed in.all. The mean.age in.both groups was 48 years. Aden.id cystic carcin.ma was the primary pathogen.c form of both arms 56% (28 cases). Methods: This is a retrospective study in.ludin. 121 patien.s with primary locally advan.ed n.CLC diagn.sed between.2001 an. 2010 at the radiotherapy departmen. , n.tion.l Can.er In.titute, Cairo Un.versity, Egypt. Results: The study showed sign.fican. correlation.between.the tumor size 60, moderately differen.iated tumors G2 an. treatmen. outcomes;better locoregion.l con.rol an. better survival rates. On.the opposite side poorly differen.iated tumors G3, tumor size > 7 cm had the worst locoregion.l con.rol an. survival rates. The study also showed sign.fican. statistical correlation.between.treatmen. modality, locoregion.l con.rol an. survival rates. Patien.s who were treated by either con.ommiten. chemo-radiotherapy or sequen.ial chemo-radiotherapy had better local con.rol compared to other patien.s who were treated by radical radiotherapy, an. they also had the best survival rates amon. all the other treatmen. groups. The average 6 mon.hs OAS rates for all studied patien.s were 60.3% while 12 mon.hs survival rates were 38.8%. The median.OAS was 7 mon.hs. Con.lusion.: From the presen. study, we con.luded that con.omitan. chemo-radiotherapy is the treatmen. of choice for locally advan.ed n.n.small cell lun. can.er;also we con.luded that better performan.e status an. higher hemoglobin.levels have better treatmen. outcome in.these cases.

Methods: This is a retrospective study reviewin. all adult n.sopharyn.eal carcin.ma (n.C) patien.s who presen.ed to the radiotherapy departmen.—n.tion.l Can.er In.titute Cairo Un.versity in.the period from (2000-2010). Results: In.this study, it was foun. that the mean.age was 45 years;most of the patien.s were of locally advan.ed stages. Multivariate cox proportion.l hazards regression.iden.ified T-stage, radiotherapy course completion.& addition.of chemotherapy as in.epen.en. progn.stic factors for local con.rol (LC), DFS, & OS. The 5-year LC, DFS an. OS rates for all studied patien.s were 38.2%, 33.5% & 37.2% respectively. The median.DFS was 26 mon.hs an. median.OS was 36.5 mon.hs. Con.lusion. This study matches the published data that support that radical con.urren. chemoradiation.is the main.tay of treatmen. of locally advan.ed n.C, & that T-stage, M-stage, prescribed dose completion. respon.e to in.tial treatmen. are in.epen.en. progn.stic factors for survival. All measures should be taken.to improve the local respon.e durin. primary treatmen. as this will improve survival rates of patien.s with n.C.

To evaluate the effects of glial cell lin.-derived n.urotrophic factor tran.plan.ation.combin.d with adipose-derived stem cells-tran.differen.iated moton.uron.delivery on.spin.l cord con.tusion.in.ury, we developed rat models of spin.l cord con.usion.in.ury, 7 days later, in.ected adipose-derived stem cells-tran.differen.iated moton.uron. in.o the epicen.er, rostral an. caudal region. of the impact site an. simultan.ously tran.plan.ed glial cell lin.-derived n.uro-trophic factor-gelfoam complex in.o the myelin.sheath. Moton.uron.like cell tran.plan.ation.combin.d with glial cell lin.-derived n.urotrophic factor delivery reduced cavity formation. an. in.reased cell den.ity in.the tran.plan.ation.site. The combin.d therapy exhibited superior promotin. effects on.recovery of motor fun.tion.to tran.plan.ation.of glial cell lin.-derived n.urotrophic factor, adipose-derived stem cells or moton.uron. alon.. These ifn.in.s suggest that moton.uron.like cell tran.plan.ation.combin.d with glial cell lin.-derived n.urotrophic factor delivery holds a great promise for repair of spin.l cord in.ury.

Backgroun.: Obesity is a major health problem worldwide an. is in.olved in.etiology of breast can.er. Egypt is ran.ed amon. the highest globally in.obesity problem. Body mass in.ex (BMI) is the most widely used tool to defin. obesity. Body surface area (BSA) is an.ther measure used widely in.clin.cal practice, particularly in.calculatin. doses of chemotherapeutic agen.s. Both Body Surface Area (BSA) an. Body Mass In.ex (BMI) rely on.weight an. height an. can.be used as in.icators of obesity. Patien.s an. Methods: This is a cross-section.l observation.l study that was carried out in.the departmen. of clin.cal on.ology, Faculty of medicin., Ain.Shams Un.versity Hospitals. Medical records of patien.s scheduled for adjuvan. chemotherapy were revised regardin. age, comorbidity, side of the tumor, stage, an. type of the surgery performed. Immun.histochemistry (IHC) to detect ER, PR, an. Her2 an. molecular subtypes of the tumors was recorded. BMI an. BSA were calculated for all patien.s. In.lusion.Criteria: Female patien.s with n.wly diagn.sed breast can.er, cases that didn.t start the adjuvan. treatmen., data for IHC available, weight, an. height of the patien.s recorded in.the files. Exclusion.Criteria: Male breast can.er cases, bilateral cases, metastatic cases, age above 80 years, cases with multiple primaries. Results: The mean.age of patien.s was 48 ± 11 years an. 60% of them were premen.pausal. The mean.weight in.Kgs was 81 ± 13 an. the mean.height in.cm was 156 cm ± 5. Mean.BMI was 33.8 ± 6.0 an. mean.BSA was 1.84 ± 0.15. Comorbidities were presen. in.10.6% of patien.s. In.the studied group of patien.s, tumors were more common.of right side (55.7%), T2 tumor (40%), n. (40.9%), an. stage III in.57.4%. Regardin. the hormon.l receptor status, most of the patien.s were ER+ (76.5%), PR+ (66.1%) an. Her2? (73.9%). The molecular subtypes were also estimated with HR+ subtype most common.in.(60%) an.
