Introduction: Haemodialysis is the most well-established form of treatment for ESRD. method: To evaluate the implementation of standard criteria in heamodialysis water treatment units in Sharkia governorate and to determine the weak points in application of standard criteria, and reach the optimal standards to improve pt. outcomes, across the sectional study was conducted at 30 heamodialysis units of Sharkia governorate, using a modified questionnaire was developed based on mOH protocol and international guidelines such as CARI guidelines, AAmI guidelines and others by the researchers. All data were collected, tabulated and statistically analyzed using SPSS 22.0 for windows (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). Results: Of the 30 units, the majority more than 80% of the units achieved the infrastructure and schematic structure, contain water purification devices, good infection control policies, proper chemical disinfection, good monitoring and quality control, accepted maintenance technician evaluation and collected processed water samples results matched decree of 63 for 1996. Conclusion: most of the studied units nearly fulfilled the standard specifications of both mOH and AAmI. Ensuring that water quality meets AAmI standards and recommendations will minimize patient exposure to potential contaminants such as chemical hazards and endotoxemia associated with the use of the treated water for HD.

Background: One of the major challenges in managing acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding involves the identification of patients who are at high risk of rebleeding and death;conversely, the identification of patients who are suitable for early discharge and outpatient endoscopy is also important for effective resource. The use of Rockall system has been shown to represent accurate and valid predictor of rebleeding and death. The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate validity of Rockall score for prediction of rebleeding and mortality in Egyptian patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Patients and methods: 50 patients presented with upper GI bleeding were subjected to detailed clinical, laboratory, sonographic and endoscopic examination together with Rockall score calculation. Results: According to the findings of upper GI endoscopy patients were further subdivided into two subgroups as follows: Group 1 (n = 32): Patients with portal hypertension manifested by variceal bleeding and/or portal hypertensive gastropathy;and Group 2 (n = 18): other causes of acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding (peptic ulcer disease, mallory Weiss syndrome…). Clinical condition of the patients was assessed after 48 hours and mortality was recorded. Rockall score was the highest in mortality group, and higher in rebleeding group than stable group (P mong hepatic patients (P mortality with sensitivity 100% and 93.5% specificity. Conclusion: Rockall score is clinically useful in prediction of rebleeding and mortality in patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding. The α + β ? β phase transformation kinetics of TC21 Ti-alloy during continuous heating and cooling were studied using a dilatometric technique. Dilatometric heating curve exhibited that two characteristic reflection points can be observed with increasing the heating temperature. Ts referred to the initial transformation temperature of α + β → β and Tf referred to the final transformation temperature of α + β → β. Ts was reported at 720°C, whereas the corresponding Tf was obtained at 950°C. The initial and final transforming temperatures by the first derivative curve were reported at 730°C and 955°C, respectively, which are close to the values obtained in the dilatometric heating curve. Dilatometric cooling curve showed that the starting temperature of β → β + α phase transformation was 880°C;however, the corresponding finishing temperature was 670°C. The starting and finishing temperatures using the first derivative curve were obtained at 665°C and 885°C, respectively. The first derivative for the studied dilatometric heating and cooling curves showed that the starting and finishing temperatures of α + β ? β phase transformation were more accurate and objective. Results show the α + β → β transformation heating curve exhibits a typical S-shaped pattern.

The advantages of measuring hepatic oxidative status in liver biopsy are that it helps in diagnosis of hepatic dysfunction, reflects the degree of deterioration in the liver tissues, and helps to determine the severity of hepatic injury. We aimed to study the oxidative stress state in children with chronic hepatitis by using indirect approach in which antioxidant enzymes such as glutathione peroxidase (GPX), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) are determined in the liver tissue. The present study included 21 children and adolescents (12 males, 9 females) suffering from chronic hepatitis. Patients were selected from the Hepatology Clinic, New Children’s Hospital, Cairo University from November 2006 till 2009 and compared with a group of 7 children who happened to have incidental normal liver biopsy. Children with chronic hepatitis had mean age 8.12 ± 1.15 years. It was further subdivided into 2 subgroups: chronic viral heaptitis (n = 13) and cryptogenic hepatitis (n = 8). GPX, SOD and CAT levels were measured in fresh liver tissue (cell free homogenates) using ELISA. In chronic hepatitis group;there was a significant increase in the hepatic GPX activity (38.59 ± 35.82 nmol/min/ml) as compared to the control group (10.62 ± 6.68 nmol/min/ml). Also a significant correlation was observed between SOD and both ALT (r = 0.87, p minary results are encouraging to conduct more extensive clinical studies combining antioxidant therapy with various treatments.

In order to assess the quality of the Aqaba Gulf coastal waters for the sustainable use and development, and consequently for the national income, four field campaigns were annually carried out during the period from 2011-2013 to monitor hydrographic variables, i.e. temperature, salinity, pH, etc., nutrients, some heavy metals, i.e. iron, lead, copper, cadmium, chromium, etc. in addition to petroleum hydrocarbons. Except for the area of Sharm El-Sheikh Harbor, the results for the density, composition, and distributions of beach litter cleared out that the Egyptian shoreline of the Aqaba Gulf is relatively not affected by man-made litter. The area of Sharm El-Sheikh Harbor was subjected to many factors which undoubtedly affected the rate of man-made litter ac-cumulation, especially, oil contamination (oil and old or new tar) which is a good es-timator of levels of oil contamination and an effective means of evaluating the poten-tial threat of oil on coastal resources. The results of the present study cleared out also that water temperature followed seasonal changes in air temperature. Aqaba Gulf water is characterized by its high salinity and the presence of well oxygenated waters. minor changes in the distribution of pH, BOD, DOm and COD, revealed limited effects of human impacts. Low levels of Chl-a and TSm concentrations and high transparency revealed also negligible effects for human impacts. Significantly higher sea water temperatures, TSm, DO, BOD, DOm, COD, NH4, NO2, PO4 and TP were observed in summer season compared to their corresponding values in winter season. On contrast, higher values of chlorophyll-a, NO2, TN, and SiO4 were observed in winter compared to summer season. Based on the mean annual values, Aqaba Gulf coastal waters are classified as oligotrophic to mesotrophic state. A simple, accurate and precise spectrophotometric method has been proposed for the determination of eleven cephalosporins, namely;cefaclor monohydrate, cefadroxil monohydrate, cefalexin anhydrous, cefradine anhydrous, cefotaxime sodium, cefoperazone sodium, ceftriaxone sodium, ceftazidime penthydrate, cefazolin sodium, cefixime and cefpodoxime pro- xetil in bulk drug and in pharmaceutical formulations. The method depends on hydrolysis of the studied drugs using 0.5m NaOH at 100°C and subsequent reaction of the formed sulfide ions with NBD-Cl (4-chloro-7-nitrobenzo-2-oxa-1, 3-diazole) to form a yellow-colored chromogen measured at 390 nm. Different variables affecting the reaction (e.g. NaOH concentration, hydrolysis time, NBD-Cl concentration and diluting solvent) were studied and optimized. Under the optimum conditions, linear relationships with good correlation coefficients (0.9990- 0.9999) were found in the range of 5-160 μg mL-1 for all studied drugs. The limits of assay detection and quantitiation ranged from 0.289 to 5.867 and from 0.878 to 17.778 μg mL-1;respectively. The accuracy and precision of the proposed method were satisfactory. The method was successfully applied for analysis of the studied drugs in their pharmaceutical formulations and the recovery percentages ranged from 96.6 to 103.5%.

The corrosion inhibition of mild steel by Catharanthus roseus (Vince rosea) and Turmeric (Curcuma longa) extracts as green inhibitors in 1 m HCl solutions has been investigated by using potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), hydrogen evolution measurements and scanning electron microscope (SEm) techniques. Results obtained show that these investigated compounds are good inhibitors and act as mixed type inhibitors. The inhibition efficiencies increase with increasing inhibitor concentration. The SEm results show the formation of protective film on the mild steel surface in the presence of Catharanthus roseus and Turmeric extracts. The results obtained from different tested techniques are in good agreement.

Objective:To investigate the changes in total phenols,flavonoids,tannins,vitamin E, β-carotene and antioxidant activity during soaking of three white sorghum ***: The changes in total phenols,total ilavonoids,tannins,phenolic acids compounds,flavonoid components,vitamin E,P-carotene and antioxidant activity during soaking of sorghum grains were ***:Total phenols,total flavonoids,tannins,vitamin E,P-carotene and antioxidant activity in raw sorghum were ranged from 109.21 to 116.70,45.91 to 54.69,1.39 to 21.79 mg/100 g,1.74 to 5.25,0.54 to 1.19 mg/kg and 21.72%to 27.69%and 25.29%to 31.97%,respectively. The above measured compounds were significantly decreased after soaking.p-Hydroxybenzoic acid,vanillic acid,syringic acid and cinnamic acid represent the major phenolic acids in Dorado *** ferulic acid,p-coumaric acid,gallic acid and caffeic acid represent the major phenolic acids in *** the other hand,protocatechuic acid represents the major phenolic acids in *** flavonoids components,Dorado was the highest variety in kampferol and naringenin while Shandaweel-6 was the highest variety in luteolin, apigenin,hypersoid,quercelin and ***,Giza-15 was the highest variety in catechin. Phenolic acids,flavonoid compounds and antioxidant activities were decreased after soaking. Conclusions:Sorghum varieties have moderate quantities from total phenols,total flavonoids, tannins,phenolic acids compounds,flavonoid components,vitamin E,P-carotene and antioxidant activity which decreased after soaking.
