Big data is the collection of large datasets from traditional and digital sources to identify trends and *** quantity and variety of computer data are growing exponentially for many *** example,retailers are building vast databases of customer sales *** are working on logistics financial services,and public social media are sharing a vast quantity of sentiments related to sales price and *** of big data include volume and variety in both structured and unstructured *** this paper,we implemented several machine learning models through Spark MLlib using PySpark,which is scalable,fast,easily integrated with other tools,and has better performance than the traditional *** studied the stocks of 10 top companies,whose data include historical stock prices,with MLlib models such as linear regression,generalized linear regression,random forest,and decision *** implemented naive Bayes and logistic regression classification *** results suggest that linear regression,random forest,and generalized linear regression provide an accuracy of 80%-98%.The experimental results of the decision tree did not well predict share price movements in the stock market.

A modified harmony search algorithm and its applications in weighted fuzzy production rule extraction

Harmony search(HS)is a form of stochastic meta-heuristic inspired by the improvisation process of *** this study,a modified HS with a hybrid cuckoo search(CS)operator,HS-CS,is proposed to enhance global search ability while avoiding falling into local ***,the randomness of the HS pitch disturbance adjusting method is analyzed to generate an adaptive inertia weight according to the quality of solutions in the harmony memory and to reconstruct the fine-tuning bandwidth *** is to improve the efficiency and accuracy of HS algorithm ***,the CS operator is introduced to expand the scope of the solution space and improve the density of the population,which can quickly jump out of the local optimum in the randomly generated harmony and update ***,a dynamic parameter adjustment mechanism is set to improve the efficiency of *** theorems are proved to reveal HS-CS as a global convergence meta-heuristic *** addition,12 benchmark functions are selected for the optimization solution to verify the performance of *** analysis shows that HS-CS is significantly better than other algorithms in optimizing high-dimensional problems with strong robustness,high convergence speed,and high convergence *** further verification,HS-CS is used to optimize the back propagation neural network(BPNN)to extract weighted fuzzy production *** results show that the BPNN optimized by HS-CS can obtain higher classification accuracy of weighted fuzzy production ***,the proposed HS-CS is proved to be effective.

Prediction of machine failure is challenging as the dataset is often imbalanced with a low failure *** common approach to han-dle classification involving imbalanced data is to balance the data using a sampling approach such as random undersampling,random oversampling,or Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique(SMOTE)*** paper compared the classification performance of three popular classifiers(Logistic Regression,Gaussian Naïve Bayes,and Support Vector Machine)in predicting machine failure in the Oil and Gas *** original machine failure dataset consists of 20,473 hourly data and is imbalanced with 19945(97%)‘non-failure’and 528(3%)‘failure data’.The three independent variables to predict machine failure were pressure indicator,flow indicator,and level *** accuracy of the classifiers is very high and close to 100%,but the sensitivity of all classifiers using the original dataset was close to *** performance of the three classifiers was then evaluated for data with different imbalance rates(10%to 50%)generated from the original data using SMOTE,SMOTE-Support Vector Machine(SMOTE-SVM)and SMOTE-Edited Nearest Neighbour(SMOTE-ENN).The classifiers were evaluated based on improvement in sensitivity and *** showed that the sensitivity of all classifiers increases as the imbalance rate *** with radial basis function(RBF)kernel has the highest sensitivity when data is balanced(50:50)using SMOTE(Sensitivitytest=0.5686,Ftest=0.6927)compared to Naïve Bayes(Sensitivitytest=0.4033,Ftest=0.6218)and Logistic Regression(Sensitivitytest=0.4194,Ftest=0.621).Overall,the Gaussian Naïve Bayes model consistently improves sensitivity and F-measure as the imbalance ratio increases,but the sensitivity is below 50%.The classifiers performed better when data was balanced using SMOTE-SVM compared to SMOTE and SMOTE-ENN.

Fuzzy Petri net(FPN) has been extensively applied in industrial fields for knowledge-based systems or systems with *** the applications of FPN are known to be successful,the theoretical research of FPN is still at an initial *** pave a way for further study,this work explores related dynamic properties of FPN including reachability,boundedness,safeness,liveness and *** whole methodology is divided into two *** the first phase,a comparison between elementary net system(EN_system) and FPN is established to prove that the FPN is an extensive formalism of Petri nets using a backwards-compatible extension ***,current research results of dynamic properties are utilized to analyze FPN *** results illustrate that FPN model is bounded,safe,weak live and fair,and can support theoretical evidences for designing related decomposition algorithm.

A Preliminary Assessment of Load Consumption and Solar Power Potential at Kota Belud,Sabah

This paper presents a detailed preliminary assessment of load consumption and solar power potential at the Eco-Tourism Centre of Liogu Ku Silou-Silou(EPLISSI),Kota Belud,*** initial investigation assessed the feasibility of an off-grid solar PV system at EPLISSI with a suitable solar panel system for project installation and commissioning *** to the absence of an electrical grid and power supply,no pre-existing electrical appliances could be found in ***,an excel-based software,the ESCoBox,was used to produce the load *** input data for this software came from a list of required electrical appliances(LED lights,fans,and phone chargers)and the historical frequency of visitors to ***,to assess the solar power potential at EPLISSI,an online simulator known as Global Solar Atlas version 2.3 or GSA 2.3 was *** an input for the GSA 2.3,the initial solar panel system capacity was set for 0.5 kWp,and then an increment of 0.1 kWp was entered until specific criteria were *** selection of the suitable size is made when the system can satisfy the daily total average load demand and a specific load fulfillment *** a result,it was found that the site requires a total average demand and a total peak demand of 4.60 and 11.87 kWh/day,*** the GSA 2.3 generated report,an off-grid solar PV system with the capacity of 2.50 kWp solar PV can satisfy the daily total average load demand of this area,where the average PV energy output is within the range of between 7.74–9.80 kWh/day or an average of 8.72 kWh/*** conclusion,this preliminary assessment indicates that installing an off-grid solar PV system in this area is possible.

Conversion of Malaysian low-rank coal to mesoporous activated carbon:Structure characterization and adsorption properties

Malaysian Selantik low-rank coal(SC)was used as a precursor to prepare a form of mesoporous activated carbon(SC-AC)with greater surface area(SA)via a microwave induced KOH-activation *** characteristics of the SC and SC-AC were evaluated by the iodine number,ash content,bulk density,and moisture content The structure and surface characterization was carried out using pore structure analysis(BET),scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(SEM-EDX),X-ray diffraction(XRD),Fourier Transform Infrared(FTIR),elemental analysis(CHNS),thermogravimetric analysis(TGA),and determination of the point of zero charge(pH(PZC)).These results signify a mesoporous structure of SC-AC with an increase of ca.1160 times(BET SA=1094.3 m^2·g^-1)as compared with raw SC without activation(BET SA=1.23 m^2·g^-1).The adsorptive properties of the SC-AC with methylene blue(MB)was carried out at variable adsorbent dose(0.2-1.6 g·L^-1),solution pH(2-12),initial MB concentrations(25-400 mg·L^-1),and contact time(0-290 min)using batch mode *** kinetic profiles follow pseudo-second order kinetics and the equilibrium uptake of MB conforms to the Langmuir model with a maximum monolayer adsorption capacity of 491.7 mg g^-1 at 303 *** functions revealed a spontaneous endothermic adsorption *** mechanism of adsorption included mainly electrostatic attractions,hydrogen bonding interaction,andπ-πstacking *** work shows that Malaysian Selantik low-rank coal is a promising precursor for the production of low-cost and efficient mesoporous activated carbon with substantive surface area.

Fuzzy logic controller implementation on a microbial electrolysis cell for biohydrogen production and storage

This work presents the implementation of fuzzy logic control(FLC) on a microbial electrolysis cell(MEC).Hydrogen has been touted as a potential alternative source of energy to the depleting fossil fuels. MEC is one of the most extensively studied method of hydrogen production. The utilization of biowaste as its substrate by MEC promotes the waste to energy initiative. The hydrogen production within the MEC system, which involves microbial interaction contributes to the system's nonlinearity. Taking into account of the high complexity of MEC system, a precise process control system is required to ensure a wellcontrolled biohydrogen production flow rate and storage application inside a tank. Proportionalderivative-integral(PID) controller has been one of the pioneer control loop mechanism. However, it lacks the capability to adapt properly in the presence of disturbance. An advanced process control mechanism such as the FLC has proven to be a better solution to be implemented on a nonlinear system due to its similarity in human-natured thinking. The performance of the FLC has been evaluated based on its implementation on the MEC system through various control schemes progressively. Similar evaluations include the performance of Proportional-Integral(PI) and PID controller for comparison purposes. The tracking capability of FLC is also accessed against another advanced controller that is the model predictive controller(MPC). One of the key findings in this work is that the FLC resulted in a desirable hydrogen output via MEC over the PI and PID controller in terms of shorter settling time and lesser overshoot.

Background:Indoor air quality(IAQ)is a concern in kindergartens as children spend much of their time ***,there is a shortage of biological indicators needed for assessing ***,this study evaluated IAQ using transplanted lichen Usnea misaminensis as a biological ***:Lichen samples,collected from Bukit Larut,Perak,Malaysia,were exposed to indoor and outdoor environments in an urban area(Ummi Aiman Kindergarten)and a rural area(Ummi Qaseh Pelangi Kindergarten)for 2 months during August 15 to October 14,*** concentrations of 12 selected elements and the vitality of the lichens were then ***:Increased concentrations of eleven of the twelve elements deposited in the lichen samples in both urban and rural areas were *** both areas,the element concentrations in the samples from the indoor environment was lower than those from the outdoor environment,and those in the rural area were lower than those from in the urban area,suggesting the impacts of traffic *** vitality of the lichens showed no significant change in indoor environment,compared to that in outdoor environment,indicating that even exposed to indoor environment,the lichens remained effective biological indicators as same as they were in the outdoor ***:Lichens are effective biological indicators for both outdoor and indoor ***,outdoor emissions could influence IAQ,which could be problematic in densely populated areas such as *** measures should be taken.

Development of Soda Residue Concrete Expansion Agent

Identifications of drug resistance mutations among antiretroviral treatment naive HIV-1 patients in Peninsular Malaysia

Objective: To determine drug resistance mutations and the HIV-1 subtypes among antiretroviral treatment naive HIV-1 patients in Peninsular Malaysia,Methods: A total of 45 samples from four hospitals that provide HIV viral load services were subjected to the amplification of the protease and two third of reverse transcriptase regions of the pol gene by RT-PCR and Sanger sequencing,Drug resistance mutation(DRM) interpretation reports the presence of mutations related to protease inhibitors(PIs),Nucleoside reverse-transcriptase inhibitors(NRTI) and Non-nucleoside reverse-transcriptase inhibitors(NNRTI) based on analysis using Stanford HIV database program,Results: DRMs were identified in 35% of patients,among which 46.7% of them showed minor resistance to protease inhibitor with A71 V and L10 l were the commonest DRMs detected,About 21.4% and 50.0% of patients had mutations to NRTIs and NNRTIs,respectively,CRF01_AE was found to be the predominant HIV-1 subtype,Conclusions: These findings have served as an initial crucial data in determining the prevalence of transmitted HIV-1 drug resistance for the country,However,more samples from various parts of the country need to be accumulated and analyzed to provide overall HIV-1 drug resistance in the country.
