Potent water extracts of Indonesian medicinal plants against PTP1B

Objective:To examine the potent of water as a solvent agent in the preparation of traditional herbal ***:Water extracts of 18 plants were prepared through reflux and examined(25μg/mL) to evaluate their possibility for inhibiting protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B(PTP1B).The determination of IC50 values was performed for the samples possessing more than 80%***,those exhibiting IC50 values more than 7.0 μg/mL were further profiled for their chemical constituents through nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR) ***:About 44%(8) of the examined samples showed more than 80%inhibition against PTP1 *** water extracts of Elephantopus scaber,Helicteres isora aerial parts,Elaeocarpus grandiflorus(***) fruits,Melaleuca leucadendron leaves,and Quercus infectoria gum had IC50 values ranging from 2.05 to 6.90 μg/***,Andropogon nardus and Centella asiatica were at the area of δ 3.0-4.0 ***,the13 C NMR observation of samples possessing the most intensive signals in their proton NMR Cinnamomum burmannii and *** showed the peaks at the area of δ 60-90 ppm as the supportive evidence for sugar group ***,a disaccharide from *** could be an active inhibitor towards PTB1 ***:In contrast to the mainstream solvents currently used in modern herbal manufactures especially Jamu medicine in Indonesia,pure-water-extracted materials should be reconsidered and could be reemerged for future studies and for the manufacture of herbal *** addition,the activity of Jamu components should be confirmed that their antidiabetes and antiobesity activities could be through the inhibition of PTP1 B.

Bioprospecting for anti-Streptococcus mutans:The activity of 10% Sesbania grandiflora flower extract comparable to erythromycin

Objective:To search an herbal material,capable of inhibiting plaque producing bacteria Streptococcus ***:Twenty materials comprising 10 flowers and 10 rhizomes were extracted with70% *** activity was then examined at a concentration of 10%(w/v) against Streptococcus mutans in vitro on Mueller–Hinton ***(Oxoid,20 mg disc) was used as a positive ***,to establish a fingerprint guide for authentication or quality control,the most potent material was further analyzed regarding its chemical constituents by means of reversed phase-high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) and thin-layer chromatography(TLC).Results:Of the tested samples,Sesbania grandiflora(***) flower and Costus speciosus rhizome extracts showed the most potent activity with inhibited zone diameters of 18.5 and 14.8 mm,*** the other hand,other extract plants showed a diameter zone in the range of 0.5–10.6 mm or being inactive(diameter=0 mm).The activity of *** was comparable to that of erythromycin(diameter=18.0 mm).The best separation was achieved on HPLC system with acetonitrile-water with a ratio of2:8,and a flow rate at 0.5 m L/***,meanwhile,was featured on chloroform–methanol(8.5:1.5) as a mobile ***:*** flower is a promising material to be developed as the active ingredient of anti-plaque toothpaste as well as mouthwash *** developed HPLC and TLC system can be used for a further standard in its material authentication as well as for a fingerprinting of quality control during the manufacturing process.

A health index method is a useful tool for the transformer assessment *** method has been used in several previous ***,most of them have not observed the health index decreasing rate as an aspect to improve the transformer con-dition assessment.A health index method with different approaches is proposed,considering the values and decreasing rate to assess the transformer *** data from in-service and out-of-service 150 kV power transformers provided by the Indonesian electric company are *** correlation between operating age and Health Index value and Health Index decreasing rate was also *** increasing operation age,the Health Index value tends to decrease with a correlation coefficient R2 of *** analysis was conducted to power transformers with historical data of 3 years or more,which showed that the tendency of the Health Index value decreasing rate is higher with older *** paper also illustrates the Health Index analysis of 35 out-of-service transformers,resulting in a more suitable Health Index value compared to the previous *** study proposes the transformer risk assessment based on its health index value and the decreasing rate.

Experimental and Computational Study of the Microwave Absorption Properties of Recycled α-Fe2O3/OPEFB Fiber/PCL Multi-Layered Composites

The aim of this study was to fabricate multi-layered recycled α-Fe2O3/OPEFB fiber/PCL composites for microwave absorbing applications in the 1 - 4 GHz frequency range. The multi-layered composites were 6 mm thick and each consisted of a 2 mm thick layer of recycled α-Fe2O3/PCL composites at various loadings (5 wt% - 25 wt%) of 16.2 nm recycled α-Fe2O3 nanofiller, placed between two layers of 2 mm thick OPEFB fiber/PCL composites blended at a fixed ratio of 7:3. The real (ε') and imaginary (ε") components of the relative complex permittivity were measured using the open-ended coaxial probe technique and the values obtained were applied as inputs for the Finite Element Method to calculate the reflection coefficient magnitudes from which the reflection loss (RL) properties were determined. Both ε' and ε" increased linearly with recycled α-Fe2O3 nanofiller content and the values of ε' varied between 3.0 and 3.9 while the ε" values ranged between 0.26 and 0.64 within 1 - 4 GHz. The RL (dB) showed the most prominent values within the 1.38 - 1.46 GHz band with a minimum of -38 dB attained by the 25 wt% composite. Another batch of minimum values occurred in the 2.39 - 3.49 GHz range with the lowest of -25 dB at 2.8 GHz. The recycled α-Fe2O3/OPEFB fiber/PCL multi-layered composites are promising materials that can be engineered for solving noise problems in the 1 - 4 GHz range.

Nickel-zinc ferrite nanoparticles are important soft magnetic materials for high and low frequency device application and good dielectric ***-zinc ferrite nanoparticles with composition Ni_(0.5)Zn_(0.5)Fe_(2)O_(4)were prepared using mechanical alloying to analyze the effect of sintering temperature on microstructure evolution of a single sample with dielectric *** single sample with nanosized pellet was sintered from 600℃to 1200℃and analyzed by X-ray diffraction(XRD)to investigate the phases of the powders and by field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM)for the morphology and microstructure *** properties such as dielectric constant(e″)and dielectric loss(e′)were studied as functions of frequency and temperature for Ni_(0.5)Zn_(0.5)Fe_(2)O_(4).The dielectric properties of the sample were measured using HP 4192A LF impedance analyzer in the low frequency range from 40 Hz to 1 MHz and at temperature ranging from 30℃to 250℃.The results showed that single phase Ni_(0.5)Zn_(0.5)Fe_(2)O_(4)cannot be formed by milling alone and therefore requires *** crystallization of the ferrite sample increased with increasing sintering temperature,while the porosity decreased and the density and average grain size *** of the microstructure resulted in three activation energies of grain growth,where above 850℃there was a rapid grain growth in the *** constant and loss factor decreased with the increase in *** optimum sintering temperature of Ni_(0.5)Zn_(0.5)Fe_(2)O_(4)was found to be 900℃which had high dielectric constant and low dielectric loss.

Roles of furfural during the thermal treatment of bio-oil at low temperatures

The reactive O-containing species in bio-oil could induce the polymerization of bio-oil during its thermal treatment, which affects the relevant utilization of bio-oil significantly. Furans, as the highly reactive Ocontaining species in bio-oil, play important roles during the thermal treatment of bio-oil. In this study,furfural was chosen as the representative of the furans in bio-oil to investigate its roles during the thermal treatment of bio-oil. The raw bio-oil with and without the addition of extra furfural(10 wt% of bio-oil) and pure furfural were pyrolyzed in a fixed-bed reactor at 200–500 ℃. The results show that the interactions among furfural and bio-oil components can take place prior to the evaporation of furfural(<140 ℃) to form the intermediates, then these intermediates could be further polymerized to form large molecular compounds, and coke can be formed via the interactions at temperatures ≥ 300 ℃. At temperatures ≤ 300 ℃, furfural mainly interacts with anhydrosugars. As the temperature further increases, the aromatics are involved in the interactions to form coke. The increased percentage of the coke formed via the interactions is in a linear relation with the conversion of furfural during the pyrolysis at 300–500 ℃(no coke formed at 200 ℃). Meanwhile, more non-aromatic light components(≤ C6) and less aromatics in the tars could be formed due to the interactions.

The study based on radical constructivism seeks to identify Semester Two Accounting Courses students’ meaning of ogive. Data for this study include verbal and non-verbal information gathered from three students of Semester Two Accounting Courses in clinical interview sessions. The research participants have identified four processes performed on the basic elements to produce an ogive. In addition, five categories of products used by research participants to describe the ogive were identified.

AIM To investigate the associations of the genetic polymor-phisms of vascular endothelial growth factor A(VEGF-A)-1498C>T and-634G>C, with the survival of patients with colorectal cancer(CRC). METHODS A prospective cohort consisting of 131 Brazilians patients consecutively operated on with a curative intention as a result of sporadic colorectal carcinoma was studied. DNA was extracted from peripheral blood and its amplification and allelic discrimination for each genetic polymorphism was performed using the technique of polymerase chain reaction(PCR) in real-time. The real-time PCR technique was used to identify the VEGF-A-1498C>T(rs833031) and-634G>C(rs2010963) polymorphisms. Genotyping was validated for VEGF-A-1498C>T polymorphism in 129 patients and for VEGF-A-634G>C polymorphism in 118 patients. The analysis of association between categorical variables was performed using logistic regression, survival by Kaplan-Meier method and multivariate analysis by the Cox regression method. RESULTS In the univariate analysis there was a significant association(OR = 0.32; P = 0.048) between genotype CC of the VEGF-A-1498C>T polymorphism and the presence of CRC liver metastasis. There was no association between VEGF-A-1498C>T polymorphism and VEGF-A-634G>C polymorphism with further clinical or anatomopathologic variables. The genotype CC of the VEGF-A-1498C>T polymorphism was significantly correlated with the 5-year survival(P = 0.032), but not significant difference(P = 0.27) was obtained with the VEGF-A-634G>C polymorphism with the 5-year survival in the univariate analysis. The genotype CT(HR = 2.79) and CC(HR = 4.67) of the polymorphism VEGF-A-1498C>T and the genotype CC(HR = 3.76) of the polymorphism VEGF-A-634C>G acted as an independent prognostic factor for the risk of death in CRC patients. CONCLUSION The CT and CC genotypes of the VEGF-A-1498C>T and the CC genotype of the VEGF-A-634C>G polymorphisms are prognostic factors of survival in Brazilians patients with spora
