Stochastic computing(SC)has a substantial amount of study on application-specific integrated circuit(ASIC)design for artificial intelligence(AI)edge computing,especially the convolutional neural network(CNN)***,SC has little to no optimization on field-programmable gate array(FPGA).Scaling up the ASIC logic without FPGA-oriented designs is inefficient,while aggregating thousands of bitstreams is still challenging in the conventional *** research has reinvented several FPGA-efficient 8-bit SC CNN computing architectures,i.e.,SC multiplexer multiply-accumulate,multiply-accumulate function generator,and binary rectified linear unit,and successfully scaled and implemented a fully parallel CNN model on Kintex7 *** proposed SC hardware only compromises 0.14%accuracy compared to binary computing on the handwriting Modified National Institute of Standards and Technology classification task and achieved at least 99.72%energy saving per image feedforward and 31?more data throughput than modern *** to SC,early decision termination pushed the performance baseline exponentially with minimum accuracy loss,making SC CNN extremely lucrative for AI edge computing but limited to classification *** SC's inherent noise heavily penalizes CNN regression performance,rendering SC unsuitable for regression tasks.

A study of batch and column adsorption using A. jiringa seed shell as a natural adsorbent to remove methylene blue from aqueous solution was carried out. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of A. jiringa seed shell in removing methylene blue as well as to determine the isotherm and adsorption kinetics of methylene blue by A. jiringa seed shells. Parameters in the batch study showed optimum pH for adsorption was at pH 7 with the optimum contact time of 60 minutes whereas the adsorbent dose obtained was 12 g/l. The percentage removal of methylene blue increased with elevated temperature while the ionic strength reduced the adsorption capacity in the dye uptake. Langmuir isotherm was suitable for this study rather than Freundlich model due to the higher regression value: R2 = 0.9999. The most suitable kinetic model for this study was the pseudo second order, compared to pseudo first order, Elovich and intra particle with the value of regression: R2 = 0.9158. This column adsorption study used several different flow rates: 15 mL/min, 18 mL/min, 21 mL/min, 24 mL/min and 27 mL/min for 75 minutes long. The breakthrough time was lesser: 10 minutes in higher flow rates (24 mL/min and 27 mL/min), which indicated the shorter time for the adsorbent to be saturated. Thomas and Yoon & Nelson’s models were proven to be more suitable compared to Bohart-Adams model for the fixed bed adsorption study.

A geomagnetic storm is a global disturbance of Earth?s magnetosphere,occurring as a result of the interaction with magnetic plasma ejected from the *** considerable research,a comprehensive classification of storms for a complete solar cycle has not yet been fully developed,as most previous studies have been limited to specific storm *** study,therefore,attempted to present complete statistics for solar cycle 24,detailing the occurrence of geomagnetic storm events and classifying them by type of intensity (moderate,intense,and severe),type of complete interval (normal or complex),duration of the recovery phase (rapid or long),and the number of steps in the storm?s *** analysis was applied to data from ground-based magnetometers,which measured the Dst index as provided by the World Data Center for Geomagnetism,Kyoto,*** study identified 211 storm events,comprising moderate (177 events),intense (33 events),and severe (1 event) *** 36%of ICMEs and 23%of CIRs are found to be geoeffective,which caused geomagnetic *** to four-step development of geomagnetic storms was exhibited during the main phase for this solar *** showed the geomagnetic storms developed one or more steps in the main phase,which were probably related to the driver that triggered the geomagnetic storms.A case study was additionally conducted to observe the variations of the ionospheric disturbance dynamo (Ddyn) phenomenon that resulted from the geomagnetic storm event of 2015July *** attenuation of the Ddyn in the equatorial region was analyzed using the H component of geomagnetic field data from stations in the Asian sector (Malaysia and India).The variations in the Ddyn signatures were observed at both stations,with the TIR station (India) showing higher intensity than the LKW station (Malaysia).

Multi-strain probiotics provide the most dependable approaches to improve health,immune response,and disease resistance in farmed *** the present study,we examined the effects of multi-species probiotics on the survival,growth,immune response,and disease resistance of rohu(Labeo rohita)*** hatched larvae from the day of first feeding(average weight of 0.003 g)were reared with multi-species probiotics having a combination of Bacillus subtilis(109 colony forming units(cfu)/mL)and Lactobacillus spp.(Lactobacillus plantarum,Lactobacillus buchneri-1011 cfu/mL)in water containing doses of 0(control-C),0.5 mL/L(treatment 1-T1),and 1.0 mL/L(treatment 2-T2)in triplicates for 90 *** the experiment,a challenge test was performed to assess the fish's resistance to pathogenic Aeromonas *** higher survival was recorded in larvae of treated groups(87%in T2 and 79%in T1)compared to the control(62%).Significantly higher growth performance(weight gain and specific growth rate—SGR)was shown by the probiotic-treated larval groups compared to the *** supplementation resulted in significantly higher counts of total viable colony(TVC)and lactic acid bacteria(LAB)in the *** immunological parameters(mucosal fold fattening,goblet cell abundance,expansion of lamina propria and enterocytes)of the gut were significantly better in probiotic-treated *** liver of treated fish showed irregular shape nuclei turning into regular shape and reducing spaces between the hepatic ***-treated fish had the highest post-challenge survival rate(90%)against *** *** erythrocytes of challenged fish treated with probiotics had significantly lower frequencies of various nuclear and cellular *** findings suggest that multi-species probiotic supplements could improve the survival,growth,health status,and immune response of rohu in the early stages of its development.

Microplastic Can Decrease Enzyme Activities and Microbes in Soil

An in vitro study was conducted to investigate the impacts of microplastics on enzyme activities and soil bacteria. The study included four different treatments of microplastics including a control. Different levels of microplastics were applied to the soil ranging from 0% to 5%, to assess the impacts of microplastics on soil enzymes and subsequent soil bacteria. After 30 days of incubation, the soil samples were collected and growth parameters of bacteria were assessed. Activities of β-glucosidase, urease and dehydrogenase enzymes were also determined. Our results showed that the presence of microplastics in the soil significantly reduced bacterial population together with bacterial strains. The activities of β-glucosidase, urease and dehydrogenase enzymes were reduced significantly to approximately 32%, 40% and 50% in microplastics treated soils respectively. Concentration of microplastic has a role to play towards this direction;the higher the concentration of microplastic the greater is the impact on enzymes and soil bacteria. The present study on the microbial soil health vis-à-vis microplastic application indicates that the material can have negative effect on the soil bacterial population of and thus ultimately may jeopardize soil health and crop production.

Non-uniform linear array(NULA)configurations are well renowned due to their structural ability for providing increased degrees of freedom(DOF)and wider array aperture than uniform linear arrays(ULAs).These characteristics play a significant role in improving the direction-of-arrival(DOA)estimation ***,most of the existing NULA geometries are primarily applicable to circular sources(CSs),while they limitedly improve the DOF and continuous virtual aperture for noncircular sources(NCSs).Toward this purpose,we present a triaddisplaced ULAs(Tdis-ULAs)configuration for *** TdisULAs structure generally consists of three ULAs,which are appropriately *** proposed antenna array approach fully exploits the non-circular characteristics of the *** the same number of elements,the Tdis-ULAs design achieves more DOF and larger hole-free co-array aperture than its sparse array ***,the number of uniform DOF,optimal distribution of elements among the ULAs,and precise element positions are uniquely determined by the closed-form ***,the proposed array also produces a filled resulting *** simulations are conducted to show the performance advantages of the proposed Tdis-ULAs configuration over its counterpart designs.

Treating stroke or restoring brain function after stroke remains challenging for clinicians[1,2].Researchers have largely focused on developing neuroprotective strategies and translating these discoveries from rodent experiments to the clinical setting;however,these have been typified by several failures[2].It is known that astrocytes play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of ischemic stroke[3,4].They are activated in response to stimuli arising from injury,characterized by drastic changes to their morphology and function-associated gene *** astrocytes exacerbate secondary neurodegeneration(repair of nervous tissue by the generation of new neurons,glial cells,axons,myelin,or synapses)[5]as well as provide neuroprotection during CNS pathologies[6].It is worth noting that myelin-related neurite growth inhibitors induce the suppression of axon regeneration after stroke[7].

This study investigated the removal of hexavalent chromium, Cr(VI) from aqueous solution by adsorption using palm oil fuel ash (POFA), an agricultural waste from the palm oil industry. POFA adsorbent was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. Batch adsorption study revealed that the optimum conditions for the removal were as follows: pH 2, adsorbent dosage 80 g/L and contact time of 6 min, which resulted in 92% removal and 0.464 mg/g maximum adsorption capacity. Adsorption isotherm and kinetic studies showed that Freundlich isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetic models fitted best to the experimental data. Column adsorption study at 5 mL/min of flow rate showed that 90% removal was obtained at 2 min of contact time which represented its breakthrough point. The column reached saturation at 30 min and the maximum column adsorption capacity recorded was 0.412 mg/g. The column adsorption behavior showed good fit with both Thomas and Yoon-Nelson kinetic models. These findings suggested that the utilization of POFA as a low-cost adsorbent to remove Cr(VI) from wastewater, either in batch or fixed bed adsorption system is not only effective, but concurrently will help to reduce wastes from the palm oil industry.

Food waste generation is a pressing issue that requires urgent attention and concerted efforts *** staggering amount of food wasted each year not only wastes valuable resources but also exacerbates environmental,economic,and social *** Waste Management(FWM)consists of a complex array of criteria and sub-criteria,and treatments which seems *** is a need to evaluate the FWM with the help of important criteria and sub-criteria and treatments to address this *** this study,we identified four important criteria,21 sub-criteria,and four alternatives of FWM for the case of Malaysia using the integrated approach of literature review and expert ***,we employed the approach of Modified Fuzzy Improved Analytical Hierarchy Process(IAHP)to corroborate the interrelationships among the identified criteria and sub-criteria,and their associated *** study undertakes linear normalization methods to transform data into comparable numerical values and the Geometric Mean method to handle uncertainty in human ***,the Centroid method is employed to convert fuzzy weights into crisp sets for ease of *** results indicate that environmental is the most essential criterion,followed by social,economic,and *** addition,air and water pollution is identified as the most critical *** Soldier Fly is discovered as the most sustainable FWM treatment,since it performs the best while meeting all the criteria and sub-criteria *** analysis demonstrates that the outputs from the proposed method are robust and *** finding suggests a proper and robust approach to help decision-makers select suitable FWM treatments to tackle various criteria and alternatives especially when handling inconsistent and uncertain judgments during evaluation.
