The effects of municipal sewage irrigation on the soil and black locust （Robinia pseudoacacia L.） tree were studied. For this purpose, two artificial black locust stands under irrigation of municipal sewage and well water were selected in south of Tehran, Iran. Data were collected using technique of systematic random sampling with 4 replicates in each stand. It was found that the growth of black locust tree, as indicated by diameter at breast height, total height, crown length, average crown diameter, basal area and volume, in sewage irrigation stand was much higher than that of well water irrigation stand （P 〈 0.01）. Plant analysis indicated that concentrations of leaf nutrients （N, E K, Ca, Mg, Na, Fe, Mn, Cu and Zn） were greater in sewage-irrigated trees, without toxicity to the minerals of tree leaf, than those of well waterirrigated trees, and positively correlated with their respective value in soil. Ni, Cr and Pb were not detected in leaf samples. Application of sewage resulted in a 1.5-fold increase in the concentrations of soil nutrients, Ni, Cr and Pb. Among these minerals only Pb and Ni in some soil samples exceeded the toxicity limit. The increase in pH, electrical conductivity （EC） and organic carbon of soil was also observed in sewage irrigation. Results confirm that besides the use as irrigation water, municipal sewages are also a potential source of plant nutrients. However, significant accumulation of heavy metals such as Pb and Ni in soil needs to be monitored.

The influence of the structural features of dragonfly wings, including the sandwich-type configuration of longitudinal veins and the longitudinal corrugations, on the impact response of a bio-inspired structure is investigated. According to experimental observations of the wing morphology, a novel foam-based composite structure is introduced consisting of E-glass/epoxy face-sheets bonded to a polyurethane foam core. A finite element model is employed to simulate the structural responses of the biomimetic structure under low velocity impact. The initiation and evolution of the impact-induced damage in composite skins are simulated by applying a user-defined progressive damage model together with the interracial cohesive law for intra- and inter-laminar damages, respectively. To simulate the nonlinear behavior of the foam core, a crushable plasticity model is implemented. The numerically obtained results are found to correlate with the experimentally measured ones, acquired by drop-weight testing on a bio-inspired structure. It is numerically predicted that reinforcing the structure with the veins gives the more impact load-bearing capacity and the longitudinal corrugation can increase the stiffness and damage resistance of the structure. Effects of the change in impact location, the configuration of the veins and the corrugated angle on damage resistance of the structures are fully discussed.

In this research a novel nickel complex was used as electrocatalyst for electrooxidation of hydrazine.A nano-structured nickel-complex was electrodeposited on a bimetallic Au-Pt inorganic-organic hybrid nanocomposite modified *** electrode possesses a three-dimensional(3D) porous network nanoarchitecture,in which the bimetallic Au-Pt NPs serving as metal nanoparticle based microelectrode ensembles are distributed in the matrix of interlaced 3,3′,5,5′-Tetramethylbenzidine(TMB) organic nanofibers(NFs).Surface structure and composition of the sensor was characterized by scanning electron *** oxidation of hydrazine on the surface of modified electrode was investigated with cyclic voltammetry *** results showed that the nickelcomplex films displayed excellent electrochemical catalytic activities towards hydrazine *** hydrodynamic amperometry at rotating modified electrode at constant potential versus reference electrode was used for detection of *** optimized conditions the calibration plots were linear in the concentration range of 0.2-85 μM and detection limit was found to be 0.1 μ*** modified electrode exhibited reproducible behavior and a high level stability during the electrochemical experiments,making it particularly suitable for the analytical purposes.

The present research employs density functional theory(DFT)computations to analyze the structure and energy of complexes formed by psoralen drug with alkali(Li^(+),Na^(+),K^(+))and alkaline earth(Be^(2+),Mg^(2+),Ca^(2+))metal *** computations are conducted on M06-2X/aug-cc-pVTZ level of theory in the gas phase and *** Atoms in Molecules(AIM)and natural bond orbital(NBO)analyses are applied to evaluating the characterization of bonds and the atomic charge distribution,*** results show that the absolute values of binding energies decrease with going from the gas phase to the ***,the considered complexes in the water(as a polar solvent)are more stable than the CCl_(4)(as a non-polar solvent).The DFT based chemical reactivity indices,such as molecular orbital energies,chemical potential,hardness and softness are also *** outcomes show that the considered complexes have high chemical stability and low reactivity from the gas phase to the ***,charge density distributions and chemical reactive sites of a typical complex explored in this study are obtained by molecular electrostatic potential surface.

This study was carried out on the ability of predatory thrips Scolothrips longi- cornis Priesner to feed on 2 phytoseiid species and vice versa. Also the effect of predation of Neoseiulus californicus （McGregor） on Typhlodromus bagdasarjani Wainstein and Aru- tunjan and vice versa was evaluated. The larvae, prepupae, and pupae of thrips and the eggs, larvae, and protonymphs of phytoseiids were selected as intraguild prey. The in- traguild predation （IGP） among S. longicornis and 2 phytoseiid species was unidirectional and in favor of phytoseiids, i.e., S. longicornis was not able to feed on larval stages of 2 phytoseiids. However, N. californicus and T. bagdasarjani fed on the 1st instar larvae （1.39 and 0.80 per day）, 2nd instar larvae （0.87 and 0.55 per day）, prepupae （0.51 and 0.48 per day）, and pupae of thrips （0.51 and 0.49 per day, respectively）. Both phytoseiids fed on eggs, larvae, and protonymphal stages of each other. Females of N. californicus con- sumed more phytoseiid larvae （2.49 per day） than T. bagdasarjani, which consumed 1.08 N. californicus larvae per day. When Tetranychus urticae was presented as an extraguild prey, intensity oflGP between 2 species ofphytoseiids and on larval stages ofS. longicornis reduced significantly. Therefore, it is concluded that （i） IGP existed among the 3 examined species and lack of feeding of S. longicornis on 2 phytoseiid species can be justified by its feeding type （monophagy）, （ii） N. californicus was much more prone to IGP than was T. bagdasarjani.

Hydrothermal Alteration Mapping in Northern Khur, Iran, Using ASTER Image Processing: a New Insight to the Type of Copper Mineralization

Eastern Iran has great potential for the discovery of different types of mineralization. The study area encompasses Tertiary magmatism in the northern Lut block located in northern Khur, South Khorasan, eastern Iran and is mostly covered by volcanic rocks, which are intruded by porphyritic subvolcanic intrusions in some places. Application of the spectral angle mapper （SAM） technique to Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer （ASTER） images detected sericitic, argillic, and propylitic alterations, silicification, and secondary iron oxides. The alteration is linear and associated within vein-type mineralization. Twelve prospective areas are selected for detailed exploration and based on our processing results, in addition to NW-SE faults, which are associated with Cu mineralization indications, NE-SW faults are also shown to be important. Based on the presence of subvolcanic rocks and numerous Cu ± Pb-Zn vein-type mineralizations, extensive alteration, high anomaly of Cu and Zn （up to 100 ppm）, the age （43.6 to 31.4 Ma） and the initial $78r/S6Sr ratio （0.7047 to 0.7065） of the igneous rocks, and the metallogenic epoch of the Lut block （middle Eocene-lower Oligocene） for the formation of porphyry Cu and epithermal deposits, the studied area shows great potential for porphyry copper deposits.

DNA damage and the enzyme poly(ADP-ribose)polymerase(PARP)associated with the pathogenesis of numerous age-related neurodegenerative *** play crucial roles in both support metabolic functions and cell viability of the *** regulates DNA damage and repair in the brain *** this study PARP activity and DNA strand break were investigated in the astrocytes isolated from young and aged rat *** and 30-month-old rats were killed by decapitation and brains were removed onto an ice cooled glass *** were isolated by sucrose density gradient centrifugation and glutamine synthetase(GS)served as a marker of the astrocytes *** specific activity of PARP was assayed in permeabilized cells by measuring the incorporation of the ADP-ribose moiety of[3H]NAD into the nuclear acceptor *** rate of DNA strand breaks was determined using a fluorescent dye and monitored *** increase(about 75%)in the PARP activity was observed in the whole homogenates of aged rats,whereas this rise was more pronounced(about 360%)when the reaction was measured in the purified astrocyte *** amount of DNA strand breaks was also higher in the astrocytes isolated from the aged brain as compared to that of young *** close relationship between the level of DNA strand breaks and PARP activity in the astrocytes suggest that these cells are susceptible to the metabolic alterations in *** is concluded that the astrocytes PARP might be considered as a therapeutic target for combating age related neurodegenerative disorders.

Tyrosine hydroxylase and tryptophan hydroxylase are key rate limiting enzymes in the biosynthesis of dopamine and serotonin,*** both enzymes are active in striatum,and affected by age,this study was undertaken to investigate interaction between dopamine and serotonin synthesis in brain striatal synaptosomes of aging *** Wistar rats(3 and 30 month old)were killed by decapitation and brain striatal synaptosomes were prepared by discontinuous Ficoll/sucrose gradient *** were incubated in the presence of added pargiline(monoamineoxidase inhibitor),dopamine or serotonin synthesized during 25 min was measured by HPLC,employing electrochemical *** synthesis in synaptosomes prepared from young animals was markedly inhibited by addition of 5μM serotonin concentrations(30%)and increasing serotonin concentrations up to 50μM caused only a smaller additional *** synthesis in synaptosomes obtained from old rats was signifi cantly lower than that of youg animals and addition of serotonin concentrations up to 50μM had little effect on these *** case of serotonin synthesis,exogenously added 5μM dopamine inhibited serotonin synthesis in the synaptosomes of both ages by about 40%,whereas with higher concentration of dopamine(10-50μM)the rate of inhibition was highly pronounced in old rats as compared to that of young *** is concluded that dopamine and serotonin interaction may be signifi cant,and that these should be considered in long-term treatments of Parkinson’s disease with L-DOPA.

Acetone Adsorption on Pristine and Pt-doped Graphene:A First-Principles vdW-DF Study

Using van der Waals corrected density functional theory(vdW-DF) method we have investigated the adsorption of acetone molecule on pristine and Pt-doped *** active sites for both the interacting systems have been considered in the adsorption process including full geometry *** have analyzed the structural and electrical properties of energetically favorable *** results show that adsorption of acetone molecule on the Pt-doped graphene is energetically *** binding energy and bonding distance are determined to be-5.277 eV and 2.206 A,respectively,accompanying with charge transfer of 1.11 ***,the Pt-0 bond is rather significantly elongated when acetone is adsorbed on Pt-doped *** to pristine graphene,the Pt-doped graphene has stronger interaction with the acetone and may provide more sensitive signai for a single acetone ***,practically,the band gap of Pt-doped graphene would become reduced after acetone ***,our first-principles study presents evidence for a coherent benchmark for the applicability of Pt-doped graphene for acetone adsorption and detection.
