Suppression of gold nanoparticle agglomeration and its separation via nylon membranes

Use of ultraporous nylon membrane is one of the most widely employed techniques for removal of hard and soft nanoparticles in the semiconductor industry, and the accurate determination of membrane pore size is necessary in order to avoid manufacturing defects caused by contamination. The gold nanoparticle has several benefits for the evaluation of polymeric membranes; however, the nanoparticles agglomerate easily on the nylon membrane and make it difficult to evaluate the membrane precisely. The properties of 2-amino-2-hydroxymethyl-1,3-propanediol(ADP) ligand in gold nanoparticle solution were systematically investigated, and ADP was utilized for improved evaluation of the nylon membranes. Nylon membrane used in this study was prepared by phase inversion techniques. Ultrathin dense layer on top of the membrane surface and Darcy structures in the microporous membrane support were observed. The gold particle rejection was carried out at various p H values from 4 to14 and higher rejection was observed at p H 4 and 8. The suppression of gold colloid agglomeration using ADP and monodispersity of gold colloids was also analyzed by confocal laser scanning microscopy(CLSM), transmission electron microscopy(TEM), and scanning electron microscopy(SEM). van der Waals interaction energy of the particles was reduced in the addition of ADP. The presence of ADP ligand in the gold solutions prevented the agglomeration of gold nanoparticles and reduced the adsorption of the particles on the nylon membrane surface,leading to precise evaluation of membrane pore sizes.

Enhanced lithium storage of mesoporous vanadium dioxide(B) nanorods by reduced graphene oxide support

A facile synthesis of vanadium oxide with reduced graphene oxide（rGO） is developed and used as cathode material for lithium ion batteries. VO_2（B） nanorods and VO_2（B）-rGO composite were prepared by a hydrothermal method using NaVO_3 precursor and sodium oxalate as a reducing agent. The monoclinic phase and nanorod like morphology of synthesized materials were confirmed by XRD, SEM, and TEM respectively. The electrochemical properties of samples were investigated at 1.5–4.0 V, and 0.1 C rate,and the VO_2（B） nanorods exhibit reversible capacity of about 159 mAh g^（-1）, whereas VO_2（B）-rGO exhibits 274 mAh g^（-1）. The reasonable discharge capacities were obtained at high rates. The enhanced performance in electrical energy storage system reveals the effectiveness of rGO in the composite, as it enhances the conductive electron pathway to overcome the intrinsic limits of single phase VO_2（B）.

In recent years,the development in the field of computer-aided diagnosis(CAD)has increased *** traditional machine learning algorithms have been proposed for identifying the pathological brain using magnetic resonance *** existing algorithms have drawbacks with respect to their accuracy,efficiency,and limited learning *** address these issues,we propose a pathological brain tumour detection method that utilizes the Weiner filter to improve the image contrast,2D-discrete wavelet transformation(2D-DWT)to extract the features,probabilistic principal component analysis(PPCA)and linear discriminant analysis(LDA)to normalize and reduce the features,and a feed-forward neural network(FNN)and modified particle swarm optimization(MPSO)with ant colony optimization(ACO)to improve the accuracy,stability,and overcome fitting issues in the classification of brain magnetic resonance *** proposed method achieves better results than other existing algorithms.

Finite element models to represent seismic activity of the Indian plate

Quantification of seismic activity is one of the most challenging problems faced by earthquake engineers in probabilistic seismic hazard analysis. Currently, this problem has been attempted using empirical approaches which are based on the regional earthquake recurrence relations from the available earth- quake catalogue. However, at a specified site of engineering interest, these empirical models are asso- ciated with large number of uncertainties due to lack of sufficient data. Due to these uncertainties, engineers need to develop mechanistic models to quantify seismic activity. A wide range of techniques for modeling continental plates provides useful insights on the mechanics of plates and their seismic activity. Among the different continental plates, the Indian plate experiences diffused seismicity. In India, although Himalaya is regarded as a plate boundary and active region, the seismicity database indicates that there are other regions in the Indian shield reporting sporadic seismic activity. It is expected that mechanistic models of Indian plate, based on finite element method, simulate stress fields that quantify the seismic potential of active regions in India, This article explores the development of a finite element model for Indian plate by observing the simulated stress field for various boundary conditions, geological and theological conditions. The study observes that the magnitude and direction of stresses in the plate is sensitive to these conditions, The numerical analysis of the models shows that the simulated stress field represents the active seismic zones in India.

We show the results of first-principles calculations of structural,phonon,elastic,thermal and electronic properties of the Mg-X inter-metallics in their respective ground state phase and meta-stable phases at equilibrium geometry and the studied pressure *** dispersion spectra for these compounds were investigated by using the linear response *** phonon spectra do not show any abnormality in their respective ground state *** respective ground states phases of the studied system remain stable within the studied pressure *** and thermodynamic properties were derived by analysis of the electronic structures and quasi-harmonic *** mixed bonding character of the Mg-X intermetallics is revealed by Mg-X bonds,and it leads the metallic *** of the contribution originated from X ions d like states at Fermi level compared to that of Mg ion in these *** this work,we also predicted the melting temperature of these intermetallics and evaluated the Debye temperature by using elastic constants.

In this study,the effects of hybridizing micron-sized titanium particles with nano-sized boron carbide particles on the microstructural and mechanical properties of Mg-Ti composite were *** characterization revealed grain refinement attributed to the presence of uniformly distributed micro-Ti particles embedded with nano-B_(4)C *** back scattered diffraction(EBSD)analyses of the Mg-(Ti+B_(4)C)BM hybrid composite showed relatively more localized recrystallized grains and lesser tensile twin fraction,when compared to *** evaluation of mechanical properties indicated that the best combination of strength and ductility was observed in the Mg-(Ti+B_(4)C)BM hybrid *** superior properties of the Mg-(Ti+B_(4)C)BM hybrid composite when compared to Mg-Ti can be attributed to the presence of nano-reinforcement,the uniform distribution of the hybridized particles and the better interfacial bonding between the matrix and the reinforcement particles achieved by nano-B_(4)C addition.

Identification of CYP 2A6 inhibitors in an effort to mitigate the harmful effects of the phytochemical nicotine

Aim:In this study,our goal was to study the inhibition of nicotine metabolism by P4502A6,as a means for reduction in tobacco use and consequently the prevention of smoking-related ***,a phytochemical,is an addictive stimulant,responsible for the tobacco-dependence in *** of the other phytochemicals in tobacco,including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons,N-nitrosamines,and aromatic amines,are potent systemic *** smoking causes about one of every five deaths in the United States *** plasma concentration is maintained by the smokers’smoking behavior within a small *** is metabolized by cytochrome P450s 2A6 and 2A13 to *** metabolism causes a decrease in nicotine plasma levels,which in turn leads to increased tobacco smoking,and increased exposure to the tobacco ***:Using the phytochemical nicotine as a lead structure,and taking its interactions with the P4502A6 binding pocket into consideration,new pyridine derivatives were designed and synthesized as potential selective mechanism-based inhibitors for this ***:The design and synthesis of two series of novel pyridine-based compounds,with varying substituents and substitution locations on the pyridine ring,as well as their inhibitory activities on cytochrome P4502A6 and their interactions with its active site are discussed *** at position 3 of the pyridine ring with an imidazole or propargyl ether containing group showed the most optimal interactions with the P4502A6 active ***:The pyridine compounds with an imidazole or propargyl ether containing substituent on position 3 were found to be promising lead compounds for further ***-bonding interactions were determined to be crucial for effective binding of these molecules within the P4502A6 active site.
