Treatment of oily wastewater using submerged photocatalytic membrane reactor

The increase in oily contaminated wastewater emissions has made it essential to develop efficient treatment approaches to mitigate its negative impact on the ecosystem and human *** this research,a suspended catalyst photocatalytic membrane reactor(SPMR)is developed for simultaneous oil-water separation as well as pollutants degradation using ZnO as a photocatalyst and a submerged LED-UV light.A composite membrane unit was used in the reactor that was made of a polymeric layer and a superhydrophilic(SHPI)underwater oleophobic *** later was prepared by attaching ZnO nanoparticles(NP)on stainless steel mesh using the spraying *** pure water flux of the composite membrane was comparable to that of the pristine polymeric membrane indicating minor resistance of the SHPI *** oil-water emulsion,water flux∼1332 L m^(−2) h^(−1) was achieved at 20 kPa transmembrane pressure(TMP)with∼99%oil separation *** methylene blue dye(MB)decolourizations to assess simultaneous oil-water separation and pollutant degradation efficiencies,close to 86%dye decolourization and near complete oil water separation was *** results suggest a promising potential of the proposed design for treatment of contaminated oily wastewater.

Influence of Fe_(2)O_(3) on the physical,structural and electrical properties of sodium lead borate glasses

The influence of adding Fe_(2)O_(3) at the expense of Na_(2)O in sodium lead borate glasses on the structural,physical and electrical properties have been *** obtained from Fourier transform infrared(FTIR)spectra indicated that Fe_(2)O_(3) plays an important role in converting three coordinated boron atoms[BO_(3)]to four coordinated boron atoms[BO4].The physical properties such as density and molar volume helped to evaluate the compact structure of the prepared glass samples due to presence of[BO4]*** increase of Fe_(2)O_(3)/Na_(2)O replacements led to increasing the microhardness values and decreasing the thermal expansion coefficients of the studied *** increase of Fe_(2)O_(3)/Na_(2)O replacements generally decreased the AC *** decrease might be due to converting of the three coordinated boron atoms[BO_(3)]to four coordinated boron atoms[BO_(4)].Dielectric constants of the samples might be an indication of the distortion in the coordinated boron *** obtained experimental data indicated the internal structure of glass network and the change of the structure of the samples from three[BO_(3)]to four coordinated boron atoms[BO4].

The Zeit sand reservoir is one of the most prolific formations at Northwestern side of the Gulf of *** this research we will try to coordinate between electrical,petrophysical properties,depositional environment and facies discrimination in order to evaluate the hydrocarbon potentiality of studied Zeit *** statistical parameters for potassium(K),thorium(Th)and Th/U ratio contents have a general increase towards northwestern parts,whereas uranium(U)content has a general increase towards southeastern *** sandstone facies is distinguished from the other facies by its thorium content>4 ppm.U has high carbonate content(U≥1 ppm).Rocks'electrical properties vary greatly depending on a number of *** measurements were taken at frequencies range of(5×10^(-4)Hz-100 kHz)for fully saturated samples(clayey sandstone)with NaCl(20 gm/L).As salinity,clay content,and frequency increase,consequently does the electrical *** continental condition are present in northwestern part(back-sea)which is distinguished by high K percent,high Th,high Th/U ratio,and low U *** K,Th,and Th/U ratio contents,with high U contents,characterize the marine depositional environment that existed around the east and southeastern parts(foresea coincide with the dipping of strata).Furthermore,the studied Zeit Formation has good petrophysical properties that coincide with marine *** middle and eastern parts(around ISS-94 and CSS-288)is a good reservoir(porosity 36%-39%,shale content<15%,hydrocarbon saturation 71%-92%,and net pay thickness 17-63 feet).

Efficient PbS quantum dots tandem solar cells through compatible interconnection layer

Lead sulfide quantum dots(PbS QDs) hold unique characteristics, including bandgap tunability, solutionprocessability etc., which make them highly applicable in tandem solar cells(TSCs). In all QD TSCs, its efficiency lags much behind to their single junction counterparts due to the deficient interconnection layer(ICL) and defective subcells. To improve TSCs performance, we developed three kinds of ICL structures based on 1.34 and 0.96 e V PbS QDs subcells. The control, 1,2-ethanedithiol capped PbS QDs(PbS-EDT)/Au/tin dioxide(SnO_(2))/zinc oxide(Zn O), utilized SnO_(2) layer to obtain high surface ***, its energy level mismatch causes incomplete recombination. Bypassing it, the second ICL(PbS-EDT/Au/Zn O) removed SnO_(2) and boosted the power conversion efficiency(PCE) from 5.75% to 8.69%. In the third ICL(PbS-EDT/poly[bis(4-phenyl)(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)amine](PTAA)/Au/Zn O), a thin layer of PTAA can effectively fill fissures on the surface of PbS-EDT and also protect the front cells from solvent penetration. This TSC obtained a PCE of 9.49% with an open circuit voltage of 0.91 V, a short circuit current density of 15.47 m A/cm~2, and a fill factor of 67.7%. To the best of our knowledge, this was the highest PCE achieved by all PbS QD TSCs reported to date. These TSCs maintained stable performance for a long working time under ambient conditions.

Magnetic nanoparticles for environmental and biomedical applications： A review

Engineered magnetic nanoparticles （MNPs） hold great potential in environmental, biomedical, and clin- ical applications owing to their many unique properties. This contribution provides an overview of iron oxide MNPs used in environmental, biomedical, and clinical fields. The first part discusses the use of MNPs for environmental purposes, such as contaminant removal, remediation, and water treatment, with a focus on the use of zero-valent iron, magnetite （Fe304）, and maghemite （~,-Fe203） nanoparticles, either alone or incorporated onto membrane materials. The second part of this review elaborates on the use of MNPs in the biomedical and clinical fields with particular attention to the application of superparamag- netic iron oxide nanoparticles （SP1ONs）, which have gained research focus recently owing to their many desirable features such as biocompatibility, biodegradability, ease of synthesis and absence of hysteresis. The properties of MNPs and their ability to work at both cellular and molecular levels have allowed their application in vitro and in vivo including drug delivery, hyperthermia treatment, radio-therapeutics, gene delivery, and biotherapeutics. Physiochemical properties such as size, shape, and surface and magnetic properties as well as agglomeration of MNPs and methods to enhance their stability are also discussed.

Hydration Characteristics and Immobilization of Cr(Ⅵ) in Slag Cement-CKD Pastes under Hydrothermal Treatment

The effect of hydrothermal curing regimes on the hydration characteristics of slag cement containing different ratios of cement kiln dust has been studied. The samples for this study were combination of slag cement and cement kiln dust(5%-25%) without and with immobilization of 5% Cr(VI) by mass. Pastes were hydrothermally treated at 180 ℃ for different periods(2-24 h) in well closed stainless steel capsule. The hydration characteristics of these pastes were studied by measuring the compressive strength, bulk density, total porosity and combined water content. The findings were further supported by XRD and SEM analysis. The results indicated that the hydration characteristics of slag cement paste containing cement kiln dust 10% by mass were enhanced, especially at later ages(24 h) of hydration. That is due to the hydrothermal curing regimes of immobilized pastes accelerating hydration reactions and precipitation of Ca Cr O4, indicating that Cr(VI) can be solidified in the cement paste. This precipitation leads to pore formation in hydrated slag cement pastes.

Infrared solar cells are more efective than normal bandgap solar cells at reducing the spectral loss in the near-infrared region,thus also at broadening the absorption spectra and improving power conversion *** colloidal quantum dots(QDs)with tunable bandgap are ideal infrared photovoltaic ***,QD solar cell production sufers from small-areabased spin-coating fabrication methods and unstable QD ***,the QD ink stability mechanism was fully investigated according to Lewis acid–base theory and colloid stability *** further studied a mixed solvent system using dimethylformamide and butylamine,compatible with the scalable manufacture of method-blade *** on the ink system,100 cm2 of uniform and dense near-infrared PbS QDs(~0.96 eV)flm was successfully prepared by blade *** average efciencies of above absorber-based devices reached 11.14%under AM1.5G illumination,and the 800 nm-fltered efciency achieved 4.28%.Both were the top values among blade coating method based *** newly developed ink showed excellent stability,and the device performance based on the ink stored for 7 h was similar to that of fresh *** matched solvent system for stable PbS QD ink represents a crucial step toward large area blade coating photoelectric devices.

Double-antibody-based nano-biosensing systemfor the onsite monitoring of SARS-CoV-2 variants

The fast and reliable diagnosis of COVID-19 is the foremost priority for promoting public health ***, double-antibody-based immunobiosensor chips were designed, constructed, and exploited for clinicaldiagnosis. Gold nanoparticles/tungsten oxide/carbon nanotubes (AuNPs/WO3/CNTs) were used as the active workingsensor surface to support the chemical immobilization of a mixture of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies (anti-RBD-S and anti-RBD-S-anti-Llama monoclonal antibodies). The morphology and chemical functionalization of the fabricateddisposable immunochips was characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared(FTIR) spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry (CV), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). After full assayoptimization, the immunobiosensor showed a high sensitivity to detect SARS-CoV-2-S protein with limits of detectionand quantification of 1.8 and 5.6 pg/mL, respectively. On the other hand, for the SARS-CoV-2 whole virus particleanalysis, the detection and quantification limits were determined to be 5.7 and 17 pg/mL, respectively. The biosensorshowed a highly selective response toward SARS-CoV-2, even in the presence of influenza, nontargeting humancoronaviruses, and Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV). The immunochips exhibited distinctresponses toward the variants of concern: B.1>C.36.3>Omicron> Delta> Alpha coronavirus variants. For biosensorvalidation, twenty-nine clinical specimens were analyzed, and the impedimetric responses were positively detected fortwo Delta samples, eighteen Omicron samples, and six B.1-type samples in addition to three negative ***, the immunobiosensor was fabricated in the form of ready-to-use chips capable of sensitive detection ofvirus variants, especially variants of concern (VOC) and interest, in a specimen within 15 min.
