The Collaborative Cross mouse genetic reference population designed for dissecting complex traits

Complex traits are multifactorial traits controlled by polygenic host *** trait-related phenotypic characteristics and performance including body weight,blood chemistry,immune cell profiles,as well host susceptibility to infectious and chronic *** recent years,tremendous efforts were invested aiming to map the host genetic factors attribute to these traits and subsequently clone the gene/s underlying these *** parallel to human studies,a number of mouse models and approaches were developed aimed to enhance the mapping process and the gene *** include of using resources such as F2,backcross,advanced intercross lines,outbred populations,consomic,congenic and recombinant inbred lines(RIL).The constraints of these approaches were the limited resolution mapping of genomic regions of the quantitative trait loci(QTL)associated with the trait of interests,and the limited genetic diversity observed in the parental *** overcome these limitations,a new genetically highly diverse recombinant inbred lines of mouse population was established,namely the Collaborative Cross(CC),created from full reciprocal mating of 8 divergent strains of mice:A/J,C57BL/6J,129S1/SvI mJ,NOD/LtJ,NZO/HiL tJ,CAST/Ei,PWK/PhJ,and WSB/*** intercrossing these eight founders to generate the different CC lines,the genetic makeup of the newly developed resource is completely different from the eight parental lines,and will show heterosis,which subsequently will response differently comparing with their original ***,our results suggest that it is not essential to defining the phenotypic response of the eight parental lines,prior of assessing the CC lines,because it is believed that genetic interaction of the new genetic makeup of the new lines will reveal new phenotypic response,which completely different from the parental *** this report,we present to the community the power of the CC for dissecting variety of complex traits including host susceptib

复杂性状是由多基因控制的多因素疾病性状。包括体重、血液化学、免疫细胞以及宿主对传染病和慢性病的易感性等。近年来,人们投入了大量的资金和精力来研究这些性状产生的宿主遗传因素。由于多种因素的限制,这些复杂疾病的研究很难在人类上直接开展。而由于鼠科与人类间存在大量的同源基因,使得在鼠模型中所筛选到的相关数量性状基因座位（QTL）及候选基因适用于人类复杂疾病的研究。

Social Background and Elite Composition： Jewish Political Elite During the British Mandate

This article, which utilizes the quantitative social-background approach, sets as its objective to empirically discern correlations between the behavior of the Jewish political elite, embodied in the Jewish Agency for Palestine in the period from 1921 to 1948, and the following social-background variables： age, foreign travel, occupation as a path to political power, regional affiliation, ideology, and political opportunity, of the JAE membership. Diversity of the social-background variables and, particularly, the multitude of languages they knew, explain, to a considerable extent, firstly, the wide variety of their social, political and economic views, and, secondly, the elite＇s resort to direct contact with Western governments and peoples in communicating and promoting their political ideology, thus facilitating the realization of the Zionist project.

Game Theory Based Network Security

The interactions between attackers and network administrator are modeled as a non-cooperative non-zero-sum dynamic game with incomplete information, which considers the uncertainty and the special properties of multi-stage attacks. The model is a Fictitious Play approach along a special game tree when the attacker is the leader and the administrator is the follower. Multi-objective optimization methodology is used to predict the attacker’s best actions at each decision node. The administrator also keeps tracking the attacker’s actions and updates his knowledge on the attacker’s behavior and objectives after each detected attack, and uses it to update the prediction of the attacker’s future actions. Instead of searching the entire game tree, appropriate time horizons are dynamically determined to reduce the size of the game tree, leading to a new, fast, adaptive learning algorithm. Numerical experiments show that our algorithm has a significant reduction in the damage of the network and it is also more efficient than other existing algorithms.

Heart Disease Detection by Using Machine Learning Algorithms and a Real-Time Cardiovascular Health Monitoring System

Cardiovascular diseases are the most common cause of death worldwide over the last few decades in the developed as well as underdeveloped and developing countries. Early detection of cardiac diseases and continuous supervision of clinicians can reduce the mortality rate. However, accurate detection of heart diseases in all cases and consultation of a patient for 24 hours by a doctor is not available since it requires more sapience, time and expertise. In this?study, a tentative design of a cloud-based heart disease prediction system had been proposed to detect impending heart disease using Machine learning techniques. For the accurate detection of the heart disease, an efficient machine learning technique should be used which had been derived from a distinctive analysis among several machine learning algorithms in a Java Based Open Access Data Mining Platform, WEKA. The proposed algorithm was validated using two widely used open-access database, where 10-fold cross-validation is applied in order to analyze the performance of heart disease detection. An accuracy level of 97.53% accuracy was found from the SVM algorithm along with sensitivity and specificity of 97.50% and 94.94%respectively. Moreover, to monitor the heart disease patient round-the-clock by his/her caretaker/doctor, a real-time patient monitoring system was developed and presented using Arduino, capable of sensing some real-time parameters such as body temperature, blood pressure, humidity, heartbeat. The developed system can transmit the recorded data to a central server which are updated every 10 seconds. As a result, the doctors can visualize the patient’s real-time sensor data by using the application and start live video streaming if instant medication is required. Another important feature of the proposed system was that as soon as any real-time parameter of the patient exceeds the threshold, the prescribed doctor is notified at once through GSM technology.

Handwritten Numeric and Alphabetic Character Recognition and Signature Verification Using Neural Network

Handwritten signature and character recognition has become challenging research topic due to its numerous applications. In this paper, we proposed a system that has three sub-systems. The three subsystems focus on offline recognition of handwritten English alphabetic characters (uppercase and lowercase), numeric characters (0 - 9) and individual signatures respectively. The system includes several stages like image preprocessing, the post-processing, the segmentation, the detection of the required amount of the character and signature, feature extraction and finally Neural Network recognition. At first, the scanned image is filtered after conversion of the scanned image into a gray image. Then image cropping method is applied to detect the signature. Then an accurate recognition is ensured by post-processing the cropped images. MATLAB has been used to design the system. The subsystems are then tested for several samples and the results are found satisfactory at about 97% success rate. The quality of the image plays a vital role as the images of poor or mediocre quality may lead to unsuccessful recognition and verification.
