Some vinyl polymers/montmorillonite nanocomposites were prepared via in-situ-atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) in presence of clay. Methyl methacrylate, styrene and n-butyl methacrylate were involved in the formation of such polymeric nanocomposites. Their dielectric properties were extensively studied to invest them in the a.c. power applications. Several dielectric parameters such as dielectric constant loss (ε") and a.c. conductivity (σ) were measured at both different frequencies (0.1 Hz to 100 KHz) and temperature ranged from (20℃ to 90℃). From the dielectric results, it was realized that the dielectric a.c. conductivity was enhanced by increasing the temperature for the four prepared polymer nanocomposites.

The used water for human consumption must be free of microorganisms and chemicals that cause risk in the human health. In this study, water quality of 18 rural area of Abarkouh was determined and compared the conventional monitoring method (According to ISIR (Institute of Standards and Industrial Research of Iran), 1053 and 4208) and use of electronic system method (Patent in industrial property general office of Iran, 77815). Free chlorine monitoring and pH test done by health workers in the conventional method and the results will be sent to the Health Network monthly. Sampling for microbiological testing is done monthly based on population (According to ISIR, 4208). On the electronic system, the procedure is also done by health workers, but the result will be sent to the receiver device by using a cell phone. According to the chlorine test results if the free chlorine residual reported zero, microbiological sampling was done by a health expert. Finally, the number of chlorine test and microbiological sampling and the results of these experiments collected in the both methods and recorded in SPSS 22 then were analyzed by using chi-square test and Fisher exact test. The result of microbiological experiments shows that the sampling rate decreased 29% in using of electronic system method in comparison to the conventional monitoring method while the number of microbial defect detection increased 19% in drinking water networks monitoring by electronic system. Using of electronic system monitoring can reduce the rate and cost of microbiological sampling and its experiments and increase accuracy of these tests, in this way it will increase the quality and safety of drinking water in distribution network in small and dispersed rural communities.

Correlation between Dietary Intake and Inflammatory Biomarkers in a Tunisian Obese Group

Aims: This study aims to determine the inflammatory status and evaluate the correlation between dietary intake and inflammatory biomarkers in a Tunisian obese group. Material and Methods: This is an open cross-sectional study that includes 81 individuals divided into two groups: a group of 42 obese patients recruited from the endocrinology department and a control group of 39 non-obese healthy subjects. All participants received a food survey, anthropometric measurements and blood sampling. Pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, IL-8, TNF-α), and hs-CRP were measured in patients and controls. Results: Dietary data revealed significant increases in food intake in obese patients compared to controls. The results of the laboratory parameters showed a statistically significant increase in IL-8, TNF-α and blood glucose in obese compared to controls. The analysis of correlations among the parameters studied showed that the plasma level of IL-6 was positively correlated with dietary fat intake (r = 0.70;p -3) and carbohydrate (r = 0.54;p = 0.03) and the dietary intake expressed in calories (r = 0.64;p -3). Conclusion: dietary imbalances in obese were observed and characterized by an excessive intake of calories, fat and carbohydrates. The excessive carbohydrate and fat intake is associated with increased IL-6 and TNF-α plasma levels.

Evaluation of plant growth and spacing effects on bioengineered slopes subjected to rainfall

Shallow landslides can be mitigated through the hydro-mechanical reinforcement provided by vegetation. Several critical parameters, such as plant spacing and plant age, play a significant role in influencing bioengineered slope stability facilitated by vegetation. However, the coupling of these effects on the stability of vegetated slope has been ignored. The objective of this study is to investigate the hydro-mechanical impact of vegetation growth and spacing on the stability of bioengineered slopes based on the predictions of a calibrated numerical model against field measurements. The impact of vegetation is investigated, with specific attention given to different plant spacing and growth stages, utilizing Schefflera arboricola. In the context of rainfall, it was observed that younger vegetation demonstrated more effective matric suction retention and recovery up to 25 kPa compared to the aged vegetation. Vegetation was revealed to substantially enhance the factor of safety up to 0.3 compared to the bare slope. Plant growth and reducing plant spacing increased the impact of root systems on both hydraulic and mechanical stability, primarily attributable to the influence of root cohesion rather than transpiration rates. The results revealed that the mechanical contribution to the factor of safety enhancement was raised from one-third to two-thirds because of the vegetation-induced cohesion within the growing rooted zone.

Objective: Eryngium with the 274 accepted species, is the largest genus of Apiaceae family which are distributed all over the world and have been used in traditional remedies to manage various ailments in different nations. Ten species of Eryngium have been identified in Iran including E. caeruleum M.B.(syn: E. caucasicum Trautv.), E. creticum Lam., E. bungei Boiss., E. billardieri F. Delaroche.(syn: E. kotschyi Boiss.), E. glomeratum Lam.(syn: E. parviflorum Sm.), E. bornumulleri Nab., E. pyramidale Boiss.& Husson., E. noeanum Boiss., E. wanaturi Woron.(syn: E. woronowii Bordz.), and E. thyrsoideum Boiss. The aim of the present research is to review pharmacological activity, and phytochemical constituents as well as ethnobotany and traditional uses of Iranian species of Eryngium. Materials and methods: Electronic databases including PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct (ISI Web of Knowledge) and Embase library were comprehensively searched for research on Eryngium. The search period was from 1966 to October 2018. The related articles were selected according to the inclusion and exclusion criterias in our study. Results: A total of 57 papers were enrolled in analyses. The findings showed that Iranian species of Eryngium, had a noticeable diverse of traditional medicinal uses and also broad range of pharmacological activities as well as various phytochemical compounds. Some remarkable biological and pharmacological activities of these species have been demonstrated in present scientific studies, including antimicrobial, cytotoxic and anticancer, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antinociceptive activities as well as antioxidant, antidiabetic, anti-snake and anti-scorpion venom effects. Conclusion: Iranian Eryngium species have enormous potential for prospective preparation of herbal medicinal products and are good candidates for discovering new drugs.

Rectal Endometriosis Revealed by a Colonic Tumor Obstruction: A Case Report

Endometriosis is defined as the presence of endometrial tissue that is located outside the uterine cavity, associated with fibrosis and inflammatory reaction. The most common atypical locations are the gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, lung, as well as abdominal surgical scars. Its diagnosis is still very difficult, especially when it manifests itself as an acute large bowel obstruction. We report the rare case of a 41-year-old patient diagnosed with acute colonic obstruction following a rectal tumor. She had undergone colonostomy even though colonoscopy biopsies were nonspecific, and a computed tomography (CT) scan was requested. It showed an adnexal heterogenous mass, therefore the patient had a laparotomy and a subtotal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy and a biopsy of the recto-colonic hinge. Histologic examination revealed a diagnosis of rectal endometriosis. The purpose of this work is to report a rare case of colonic endometriosis responsible for an acute large bowel obstruction.

“滞洪”(detentim或retentim)一词作为技术术语使用的时候,人们还没有想起“禁洪”(imprisonmenf)这个词。其实,表达对暴雨洪水所进行的干预,用“禁洪”一词更确切些。暴雨洪水被阻止、囚禁、纳滞、拘留,利用其起作用时阀,正象拘留犯人一样。(犯人拘留一定时间释放,洪水滞留一定时间排泄——译注)。滞留的洪水,控制其排泄流量,使在一定时期内排完,就是说,滞洪的时间可能是若干分钟、小时或若干天。“就地滞洪”(on-site dctention)指的是把天然的暴雨造成的洪水径流滞蓄在附近地带,随后以一定的流量排泄之。

Intracranial complications of sinusitis are rare. However, they have an important morbidity and mortality rate, and can be a source of disabling neurological sequelae in the absence of a rapid diagnosis and adequate treatment. We carry a retrospective study of 23 patients having sinusitis with intracranial complications, treated between 1996 and 2011. All patients underwent complete ENT and neurological examination, biological investigations and sinonasal and cerebral CT. An intraveinous large-spectrum antibiotherapy was administered to all patients. Twenty patients underwent surgery. It included evacuation of the intracranial collection, sinus drainage, with or without cranialization of the frontal sinus. Evolution was assessed on clinical biological and radiological criteria. Mean age was 25 years and sex-ratio was 3.6. Neurological signs were the most frequent symptoms. Rhinological signs were essentially purulent rhinorrhea (14 cases) and nasal obstruction (12 cases). Nasal endoscopy showed pus in the middle meatus in 10 cases. On CT, intracranial complications included subdural empyema (11 cases), extradural empyema (7 cases) and brain abscess (5 cases). Associated cerebral thrombophlebitis was noted in 4 cases. Three patients with extradural empyema had had an exclusive medical treatment. All other patients (20 cases) were operated. Clinical and radiological evolution was favorable after initial treatment in 14 cases (60.8%). Six patients required secondary surgery. Two patients have died despite intensive care. The intracranial complications of sinusitis are serious and source of important morbidity and mortality. Management should rapid and adequate, combining effective antibiotic therapy and eventually neurosurgical treatment.
