Structural and Tectonic Evolution of El-Faiyum Depression,North Western Desert,Egypt Based on Analysis of Landsat ETM+,and SRTM Data

False color Landsat ETM＋（bands 7, 4, 2 in RGB） and SRTM images of the EI-Faiyum depression, Egypt, highlights major NE-SW faults and other lineaments trending NW-SE and N-S. Airborne magnetic data reveal some E-W subsurface faults which are not recognized on Landsat ETM＋ and SRTM images. Ratio images （5/7, 3/1, 4/3） and （5/7, 5/1, 4） were used for lithological discrimination of different rock types. The EI-Faiyum area is occupied by sedimentary rocks of Middle Eocene, Upper Eocene, Oligocene, Lower Miocene, Pliocene, Pleistocene and Holocene. Understanding the structural regime of EI-Faiyum depression in the Western Desert of Egypt is significant in relation to the neotectonics of the Nile Delta and to the development of new communities west of the delta. The area is covered by Late Cretaceous, Middle to Late Eocene deposits, Oligocene deposits （comprising fluviatile sediments and basalt sheets） and Pliocene and Quaternary alluvium and sand deposits. New geological and structural maps were prepared at a scale of 1 ： 100 000 using Landsat ETM＋ and SRTM images coupled with extensive field work. The major structural trends are E-W, ENE, NS and NW--the same trends observed elsewhere in North Africa from NW Sudan to NE Egypt including north and central Sinai. EI-Faiyum depression is a structurally-controlled tectonic basin, marked by northeast-striking faults along its northern margin. These faults are parallel to similar faults of the Syrian arc fold belt, which includes a group of related faults, folds, push-up structures, and basins. Qarun Lake is located in the northern part of EI-Faiyum depression, at a right-step between two strands of the NE striking fault system. We have suggested elsewhere that EI-Faiyum depression is a pull-apart basin related to extension between these mismatched strands of strike-slip faults. Despite the benefits of big project dams, their reservoirs may have significant environmental impacts. The main objective of this paper is to develop an integrated analysis framework of remotely-sensed data ad GIS techniques for delineating surface area of the dam reservoir, simulating their capacities and assessing associated environmental impacts with application to Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). For this purpose, a methodology of four main steps was applied. The methodology involved delineating the up-to-date reservoir using remotely sensed data, simulating reservoir at full capacity, estimating current and potential reservoir capacity and finally assessing environmental impacts of the reservoir. The results revealed that the up-to-date reservoir covers a total area of 330.3 km2 with a gross storage capacity of 12 billion m3. Under full capacity scenario, the reservoir is estimated to cover a total area of 1650.9 km2, with a storage capacity of 63.4 billion m3. The GERD reservoir may lead to dramatic changes in the local environment with significant implications at both regional and global scales. In this respect, it was found that the reservoir will lead to destruction of ecosystems in a total area of 1300 km2 covered by grasslands and Savannah. Nowadays kaolin raw material is usually used to produce nano-kaolin for geopolymer enhancement by using firing *** the present study,kaolin used was taken from the Naqus Formation(Cambro-Ordovician age),west of Gabal El Gunna,Sinai,***-kaolin material is an ultrafine material and was prepared from the taken kaolin by the firing process at 800 for 2℃h with a heating rate of 5/*** mixes were prepared and their laboratory specimens were made℃and cured up to 90 *** cooled slag was used as starting material,and sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate were used in the study as activators for the used *** formed geopolymer mixes with different ratios(1%,1.5%,3%,5%,and 7%)of nano-kaolin as a partial replacement for the raw kaolin were *** Ace super plasticizer was added in the ratio of 4%from the dry weight to ensure good dispersing of the used nano *** showed that increasing the percentage of nano-kaolin up to 3%results in an enhancement in the mechanical properties as compared with the control mix up to 90 days of curing,while higher ratios are not preferable where they lead to agglomeration of the added nano materials and matrix dilution.

Scholarly documents are generated on daily basis in varied formats. Google Scholar is one of the most popular open access web search engines that involves metadata of massive volume of varied scholarly literature that is generated autonomously and in high velocity. This means that Google Scholar data should be considered from Big Data perspective. Despite a growing literature on climate change in Egypt, there has never been a comprehensive survey of the literature produced by Egyptian researchers in the field. The paper in hand is intended to study and assess existing literature on climate change undertaken by Egyptian researchers available at Google Scholar. For this purpose, systematic mapping approach was utilized in this work. It was found that there were 189 research papers undertaken by Egyptian researchers on various climate change topics over a ten years period 2007-2017. Yet, about 33% of the produced literature was found to have been published in less reputable publications. Research papers undertaken by Egyptian researchers were found to be on the increase during this period. It was also found that the majority of the published research focused on specific topics such as agriculture and sea level rise, while disregarding a number of vital topics in the case of Egypt such as tourism, health and energy.

Solid waste represents a key issue that threatens environmental quality in Egyptian urban areas. One of the most viable options to treat such an issue is to incinerate the collected solid waste for electricity generation, which can reduce the cost of solid waste disposal as well as pollution and generate surplus energy. Selecting appropriate site for a solid waste incineration power plant is a crucial step due to its economic and environmental implications. This would require assessing various constraining and favorable factors that determine feasibility and sustainability of the power plant site. This paper is intended to develop a GIS-based model for siting a municipal solid waste incineration power plant in Alexandria governorate, Egypt. For this purpose, five criteria are considered and a composite index was suggested to integrate these criteria in a numerical term reflecting suitability of various parts of the governorate for siting solid waste incineration power plant.

Availability of reliable knowledge on future climate change impacts, vulnerability, and adaptation are considered key elements to improving adaptive capacities and developing proper adaptation actions. The Nile Delta vulnerability to Sea Level Rise (SLR) has been the subject of a relatively significant number of studies in Egypt. The research question that this paper intends to address is “to what extent have the produced scientific knowledge supported climate change adaptation policy making, concerning inundation by SLR in the Nile Delta”. To address this question, the paper begins with a review of the literature on policy-research interaction, based on which a framework of policy-research interactions is developed. This is followed by examining generated knowledge from research and the role of such knowledge on adaptation strategy development in Egypt. It was found that the research cycle has provided ample knowledge on the Nile Delta vulnerability to inundation by SLR. Additionally, the bulk of this research work and produced knowledge have been the main source of information for climate change adaptation policymaking. The interaction between research and policymaking interest in the climate change adaptation arena in Egypt confronted several challenges that may have reduced impacts of research on policymaking. These challenges included low interest in the far future, uncertain sea level rise impacts among policymakers and the uncoordinated research and varied estimates of sea level rise impacts provided by the research cycle. Moreover, the lack of proper and effective communication channels between the two cycles may have further hindered possible interaction.

In many countries,the implementation of Public-private Partnership(PPP)concept has become increasingly more essential method of procuring infrastructure development ***,in Punjab the requirement and demand for infrastructure is huge while the resources are scarce and difficult to meet this *** are few projects implemented in Punjab under PPP concept,but the numbers of such projects are increasing and currently with more than25projects in pipeline,the Government of Punjab is interested to boost infrastructure development with the help of private investment,which is considered as vital source for the developing nations as well as for developed *** aim of this study is to explore the Punjab experience in implementing PPP projects focusing on the success factors considered as critical for *** operational projects were selected and semi-structured interview was carried out with the representative of potential stakeholders involved in these projects.A qualitative approach was applied to identify the Critical Success Factors(CSFs).Nine success factors were identified from literature and by holding discussion with experts and seeking their opinion,five success factors were considered as critical for the success of PPP project in *** to the findings,the CSFs in the context of Punjab are:appropriate risk allocation and sharing,favourable legal and regulatory framework,financial and economic viability,well-organized and committed public agency,and political support and *** is believed that the findings and suggestions presented in this study will assist both the private and public sectors to deliver PPP projects in Punjab more successfully.

GIS-Based Model for Mapping Malaria Risk under Climate Change Case Study: Burundi

Malaria is one of the largest problems threatening global public health that is expected to increase in the future under climate change due to associated warming and wetter conditions. This will exacerbate disease burden in Burundi as one of sub-Saharan African countries, where 2 million cases of malaria were reported in 2015. This highlights the need for developing a methodology for mapping malaria risk under climate change and delineating those regions that may potentially experience malaria epidemics in the future. Malaria transmission and distribution are generally determined by a wide range of climatic, topographic and socioeconomic factors. The paper in hand is intended to map malaria risk in Burundi under climate change up to 2050. For this purpose, a GIS-based model was developed for mapping malaria as a function of various climatic and topographic determinants of malaria. The developed GIS-model was used in mapping malaria risk under current climatic conditions. Thereafter, the produced risk map was validated compared to malaria morbidity data in Burundi at health district level. Finally, the GIS-model was applied to map malaria risk in the future under RCPs 2.6 and 8.5 scenarios up to 2050. It was found that about 34.6% and 44% of Burundi land surface will be highly vulnerable to malaria risk by 2050 under RCPs 2.6 and 8.5 scenario, respectively. Also, it was noted that such highly vulnerable areas are distributed mainly in northern parts of the country. The suggested GIS-based model for mapping malaria risk under climate change can contribute largely to more informed decision-making and policy making process in terms of planning for intervention and control malaria risk. This in turn can support reducing disease burden and improving resilience to climate change.

Non-coding RNAs （ncRNAs） are critical regulators of gene expression in essentially all life forms. Long ncRNAs （IncRNAs） and microRNAs （miRNAs） are two important RNA classes possessing regulatory functions. Up to date, many primate-specific ncRNAs have been identified and investigated. Their expression specificity to primate lineage suggests primate-specific roles. It is thus critical to elucidate the biological significance of primate or even human-specific ncRNAs, and to develop potential ncRNA-based therapeutics. Here, we have summarized the studies regard- ing regulatory roles of some key primate-specific lncRNAs and miRNAs.
