Pion emission in α-particle interactions with various targets of nuclear emulsion detector

The behavior of relativistic hadron multiplicity for 4He-nucleus interactions is investigated. The experi- ment is carried out at 2.1 A and 3.7 A GeV （Dubna energy） to search for the incident energy effect on the interactions inside different emulsion target nuclei. Data are presented in terms of the number of emitted relativistic hadrons in both forward and backward angular zones. The dependence on the target size is presented. For this purpose the statistical events are discriminated into groups according to the interactions with H, CnO, Em, and AgBr target nuclei. The separation of events, into the mentioned groups, is executed based on Glauber＇s multiple scattering theory approach. Features suggestive of a decay mechanism seem to be a characteristic of the backward emission of relativistic hadrons. The results strongly support the assumption that the relativistic hadrons may already be emitted during the de-excitation of the excited target nucleus, in a behavior like that of compound-nucleus disintegration. Regarding the limiting fragmentation hypothesis beyond 1 A GeV, the target size is the main parameter affecting the backward production of the relativistic hadron. The incident energy is a principal factor responsible for the forward relativistic hadron production, implying that this system of particle production is a creation system. However, the target size is an effective parameter as well as the projectile size considering the geometrical concept regarded in the nuclear fireball model. The data are analyzed in the framework of the FRITIOF model.

Ultra-Wideband Log Periodic Dipole Antenna (LPDA) for Wireless Communication Applications

This paper proposes a printed log-periodic dipole antenna (LPDA) for ultra wide bandwidth (UWB) applications. The antenna comprises of cascading four U shaped elements of different line lengths with balun circuit to improve the antenna impedance matching. The proposed antenna dimensions are 50 × 50 mm2 with FR4 substrate thickness 0.8 mm. Full-wave EM solver HFSS (High Frequency Structure Simulator) is used for modeling the proposed antenna. The pulse distortion is verified by the measured the proposed antenna performance with virtually steady group delay. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed antenna exhibits good impedance matching, stable radiation patterns throughout the whole operating frequency bands, acceptable gain and stable group delay over the entire operating band. An UWB extended from 1.85 GHz to 11 GHz is obtained, and the average antenna gain is about 5.5 dBi over the operating band with peak gain around 6.5 dBi and 70% average radiation efficiency.

Investigation of KTiOPO4 nanocrystals by means of second-harmonic light emission

The finding of nonlinear nanometric-sized probes is of key importance for the development of nonlinear microscopy in physical as well as biological sciences. We isolate nonlinear KTiOPO4 nanocrystals and study them by second-harmonic generation microscopy （SHGM） and atomic force microscopy （AFM） independently. With both polarization analysis and defocused imaging of the emitted second harmonic field, we extract the Euler angles of the crystalline axes of a single nanocrystal. A balanced coherent optical homodyne detection shows the coherent nature of the nanocrystal nonlinear emission and allows a phase measurement of the emitted second-harmonic field. These features make the KTiOPO4 nanocrystal a good candidate for a vectorial probe of electromagnetic near fields.

研究了一种新型相变材料换热器,在其进出口的相应温度测试点布置铜镍合金热电偶,然后分别以不同的流速通入温度各为40℃、16—17℃的热、冷空气流,利用温度测试系统连续测出各测点的温度值。理论分析和实验研究结果验证了该换热器具有良好的热能储存与释放特性:当气流的质量流速分别为0.132,0.096 kg/s时,若相变材料的平均初始温度为17.4,17.7℃时,经过910,1 030 min后该换热器热能储存量各为21 056.67,21 014.34 kJ;在放热过程中,该换热器出口的气流温度维持在20℃以上的时间各为594,717 m in。它可用于温室、暖房、空调或工业生产中各种低温热能的回收和利用。

Concentrations of organophosphate esters in drinking water from the United Kingdom:Implications for human exposure

Data on the presence of organophosphate esters(OPEs)in drinking water and its significance as a pathway of exposure are *** this study,we measure for the first time,concentrations of eight OPEs in 50 UK drinking water *** mean concentrations of ∑8OPEs were:6.4 and 11 ng/L in bottled(n=25)and tap water samples(n=25),*** of ∑8OPEs in tap water(mean:11 ng/L)exceed significantly those in bottled water(mean:6.4 ng/L)(p˂0.01).Moreover,UK tap water is more contaminated with chlorinated,aryl-,and alkyl-OPEs than bottled *** predominant OPEs detected were:tris(butoxyethyl)phosphate(TBOEP),tris(2-chloroethyl)phosphate(TCEP),and tris(2-chloroisopropyl)phosphate(TCIPP)with arithmetic mean concentrations in the two water sample types ranging between(3.5e3.8 ng/L),(0.60-3.0 ng/L),and(1.02-2.9 ng/L),*** daily intakes(EDIs)(mean and high-end exposure)via drinking water for different sectors of the UK population were:infants(0.93 and 6.4 ng/kg bw/day)˃toddlers(0.46 and 3.1 ng/kg bw/day)˃children(0.35 and 2.3 ng/kg bw/day)˃adults(0.28 and 2.1 ng/kg bw/day).Based on these data,exposure to ∑8OPEs via drinking water is much lower than via:food,indoor dust ingestion,inhalation,and dermal uptake for adults and ***,our EDIs were lower than relevant reference dose(RfD)***,combining our drinking water ingestion data with exposure via other pathways revealed overall exposure to 2-ethylhexyl diphenyl phosphate(EHDPP)and TCIPP to approach health-based limit values for UK toddlers under a high-end exposure scenario.

Parametric Study of Dynamic Wrinkling in a Thin Sheet on Elastic Foundation

This work presents an approximate analytical study of the problem of dynamic wrinkling of a thin metal sheet under a specified time varying tension. The problem is investigated in the framework of the dynamic stability of a nonlinear plate model on elastic foundation which namely takes into account the nonlinear mechanics of mid-plane stretching and the dependence of the membrane force on this mechanics. The plate is assumed to be a wide rectangular slab, hinged at two opposite ends and free at the long ends, which can be deformed in a cylindrical shape so that the governing in-plane bending equation of motion takes the same form as that of a beam (e.g. lateral strip) element. An approximate analytical analysis of the beam wrinkling behavior under sinusoidal parametric excitation is carried out by using the assumed single mode wrinkling motion to reduce the beam field nonlinear partial differential equation to that of a single degree of freedom non-linear oscillator. A first order stability analysis of an approximate analytical solution obtained using the Multi-Time-Scales (MMS) method is used to derive a criterion defining critical driving frequency in terms of system parameters for the initiation of wrinkling motion in the thin metal sheet. Results obtained using this criterion is presented for selected values of system parameters.

Inflammatory bowel disease in rats:Bacterial and chemical interaction

AIM：To develop a novel model of colitis in rats, using a combination of iodoacetamide and enteropathogenic E. coli（EPEC）, and to elucidate the pathophysiologic processes implicated in the development of ulcerative colitis （UC）. METHODS： Hale Sprague-Dawley rats （/7 = 158） were inoculated intrarectally on a weekly basis with 4 different combinations：（a） 1% methylcellulose （HC）, （b） 100 μL of 6% iodoacetamide （IA） in 1% HC, （c） 200 p.L containing 4×10^8 colony factor units （CFU） of EPEC, and （d） combined treatment of （IA） followed by bacteria （13） after 2 d. Thirty days post treatment, each of the four groups was divided into two subgroups; the inoculation was stopped for one subgroup and the other subgroup continued with biweekly inoculation until the end of the experiment. Colitis was evaluated by the clinical course of the disease, the macroscopic and microscopic alterations, activity of myeloperoxidase （HPO）, and by TnF-α gene expression. RESULTS： Findings indicative of UC were seen in the combined treatment （IA ＋ B） as well as the IA continued treatment groups： the animals showed slow rate of increase in body weight, diarrhea, bloody stools, high colonic ulcer score, as well as histological alterations characteristic of UC, with an extensive inflammatory reaction. During the course of the experiment, the MPO activity was consistently elevated and the TnF-α gene expression was upregulated compared to the control animals. COnCLUSIOn： The experimental ulcerative colitis model used in the present study resembles, to a great extent, the human disease. It is reproducible with characteristics indicative of chronicity.

A field trial was set in 2018/2019 season to investigate n>the capacity of cashew seeds to germinate and its vegetative performance with respect to the storage period at Agricultural Research Institute-(TARI-Naliendele), Mtwara-Tanzania. The variable investigated was n>the duration of the cashew seeds storage period. Cashew seeds were harvested at polyclonal seed gardens (PSG) for three harvesting seasons 2016, 2017 and 2018 consecutively;seeds were sorted, weighed and soaked before sowing to test viability in respective to storage time. Using n>a randomized complete block design obeying factorial approach the experiment was laid with three replications. The observed growth parameters were height (cm), number of leaves, leaf length (cm), leaf width (cm), leaf area (sq cm), leaf area index (LAI), canopy diameter (cm) and seedlings canopy ground area (sq cm). The analysis was done by using GenStat under Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) on seed germination. The findings indicated that cashew seeds harvested in 2018 were the superior in both germination and growth vigor differing significantly (pn> n style="font-family:Verdana;"
