1. Introduction The convergence plate margins, where lithospheric plates move each other and collide, are the most intense areas of magmatism, tectonism and metamorphism. The development of slab windows beneath convergent margins, originally defined by Dickinson and Snyder （1979）, is one of the essential mechanisms of subduction- related tectonics. A slab window is a gap that forms in a subducting plate when a mid-oceanic ridge reaches a trench and is subducted. The opening of a slab window causes various geological processes including magmatism （e.g. Thorkelson, 1996; Kinoshita, 2002; Bradley et al., 2003; Thorkelson and Breitsprecher, 2005; Zhang et al., 2010; Eyuboglu et al., 2011a）, changes in plate kinematics and deformation （Hibhard and Karig, 1990）, mineralization （Haeussler et al., 1995; Eyuboglu et al., 2011b）, high temperature metamorphism （Sisson et al., 1989; Santosh and Kusky, 2010）, and changes in sedimentary basin evolution （Dostal et al., 2001; Wilson et al., 2005）. In this special issue of Geoscience Frontiers （GSF）, I assemble a set of contributions on the current understanding of petrogenesis of slab window-related arc magmas and also convergent margin tectonics.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is the leading cause of chronic liver disease and considered a liver manifestation of metabolic *** is in close relationship with insulin resistance,obesity,diabetes mellitus,all of which increase risk of cardiovascular disease(CVD).Besides,many studies point out that NAFLD independently contributes to the development of atherosclerosis and *** the other hand,CVDs are the leading cause of death in NAFLD *** pathophysiological changes and molecular mechanisms play an important role in NAFLD for CVD *** is common in NAFLD,which also mainly contributes to the CVD formation and *** studies linking atherosclerotic CHD and NAFLD are present in the *** CHD,mainly detected by coronary computed tomography views,have been detected more common in NAFLD *** of NAFLD has been found to be more common in patients with severe CHD and in stable CHD,NAFLD has been found to be associated with more diffuse *** acute coronary syndromes,especially in acute myocardial infarction,patients with NAFLD have been found to have poor prognosis when compared with NAFLD free *** this review,our aim is to evaluate the relationship between NAFLD and CHD in detail and go over the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying this relationship.

Objective:Running-related musculoskeletal injuries(RRMIs),especially stemming from overuse,frequently occur in *** study aimed to systematically review the literature and determine the incidence and prevalence proportion of RRMIs by anatomic location and specific ***:An electronic database search with no date beginning restrictions was performed in SPORTDiscus,PubMed,and MEDLINE up to June *** studies were used to find the anatomic location and the incidence proportion of each RRMI,whereas retrospective or cross-sectional studies were used to find the prevalence proportion of each RRMI.A separate analysis for ultramarathon runners was ***:The overall injury incidence and prevalence were 40.2%±18.8%and 44.6%±18.4%(mean±SD),*** knee,ankle,and lower leg accounted for the highest proportion of injury incidence,whereas the knee,lower leg,and foot/toes had the highest proportion of injury *** tendinopathy(10.3%),medial tibial stress syndrome(9.4%),patellofemoral pain syndrome(6.3%),plantar fasciitis(6.1%),and ankle sprains(5.8%)accounted for the highest proportion of injury incidence,whereas patellofemoral pain syndrome(16.7%),medial tibial stress syndrome(9.1%),plantar fasciitis(7.9%),iliotibial band syndrome(7.9%),and Achilles tendinopathy(6.6%)had the highest proportion of injury *** ankle(34.5%),knee(28.1%),and lower leg(12.9%)were the 3 most frequently injured sites among ***:The injury incidence proportions by anatomic location between ultramarathoners and non-ultramarathoners were not significantly different(p=0.798).The pathologies with the highest incidence proportion of injuries were anterior compartment tendinopathy(19.4%),patellofemoral pain syndrome(15.8%),and Achilles tendinopathy(13.7%).The interpretation of epidemiological data in RRMIs is limited due to several methodological issues encountered.

BACKGROUND Diffuse fasciitis with psoriatic arthritis on magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) has not been previously described in childhood. Here we present the first case report of a pediatric patient developing fasciitis, beyond plantar fasciitis, with psoriatic *** SUMMARY An 11-year-old female was admitted with the complaints of psoriatic rash on the body associated with severe pain in the lower extremities and arthritis in the right knee. Psoriasis was confirmed by skin biopsy, she diagnosed with juvenile psoriatic arthritis. Diagnostic tests did not indicate any pathology except *** of the femur and tibia revealed that high-signal inflammatory changes in the subdermal fascia. These findings led to a diagnosis of psoriatic *** was given for 3 mo but the patient showed no response to therapy;therefore, etanercept was added. However, there was no response to *** was switched to adalimumab at the sixth month of therapy. Clinical improvement started with therapy of adalimumab within one month. Fasciitis finding in MRI disappeared at seventh months on adalimumab therapy. She has no complaint for two years with *** The most effective imaging method is MRI and adalimumab may be the best choice of treatment for psoriatic fasciitis.

AIM： To evaluate role Cadmium （Cd） exposure line Hep3B cells. of midkine secretion during in the human hepatocyte cell METHODS： Different dosages of Cd （0.5-1-5-10 μg/mL） were applied to Hep3B cells and their effects to apoptosis, lactate dehydrogenase （LDH） leakage and midkine secretion were evaluated as time dependent manner. Same experiments were repeated with exogenously applied midkine （250-5000 pg/mL） and/or 5 t^g/mL Cd. RESULTS： Cd exposure induced prominent apoptosis and LDH leakage beginning from lower dosages at the 48^th. Cd induced midkine secretion with higher dosages （P 〈 0.001）, （control, Cd 0.5-1-5-10μg/mL respectively： 1123 ± 73, 1157 ± 63, 1242 ± 90, 1886 ± 175, 1712 ± 166 pg/mL）. Exogenous 500-5000 pg/mL midkine application during 5 μg/mL Cd toxicity prevented caspase-3 activation （control, Cd toxicity, 250, 500, 1000, 2500, 5000 pg/mL midkine＋ Cd toxicity, respectively： 374 ± 64, 1786 ± 156, 1545 ± 179, 1203 ± 113, 974 ± 116, 646 ± 56, 556 ± 63 cfu） LDH leakage and cell death in Hep3B cells （P 〈 0.001）. CONCLUSION： Our results showed that midkine secretion from Hep3B cells during Cd exposure protects liver cells from Cd induced cellular damage. Midkine has anti-apoptotic and cytoprotective role during Cd toxicity. Further studies are needed to explain the mechanism of midkine secretion and cytoprotective role of midkine during Cd exposure. Midkine may be a promising theurapatic agent in different toxic hepatic diseases.

The Eastern Pontides orogenic belt in the Black Sea region of Turkey offers a critical window to plate kinematics and subduction polarity during the closure of the Paleotethys. Here we provide a brief synthesis on recent information from this belt. We infer a southward subduction for the origin of the Eastern Pontides orogenic belt and its associated late Mesozoic--Cenozoic magmatism based on clear spatial and temporal variations in Late Cretaceous and Cenozoic arc magmatism, together with the exis- tence of a prominent south-dipping reverse fault system along the entire southern coast of the Black Sea. Our model is at variance with some recent proposals favoring a northward subduction polarity, and illus- trates the importance of arc magmatism in evaluating the geodynamic milieu associated with convergent margin orocesses.

In this study, using the constant rate of supply model, sedimentation rates of Izmir Bay were calculated and discussed. For this purpose, eight sediment cores were collected from inner part of the bay and sedimentation rates were calculated from vertical distribution of^(210)Pb.^(210)Pb activities were determined indirectly from ^(210)Po *** rates ranged from 0.10 to 0.52 cm/year. The highest sedimentation rates were determined in stations close to the Poligon stream. It was concluded that main transporting mechanism for sediments is river and streams in the area. In addition, sediment cores taken from the harbor were mixed due to bioturbation, water circulation and/or other factors.

The eastern Pontides orogenic belt provides a window into continental arc magmatism in the Alpine-Himalayan belt. The late Mesozoic-Cenozoic geodynamic evolution of this belt remains controversial. Here we focus on the nature of the transition from the adakitic to non-adakitic magmatism in the Kale area of Gumushane region in NE Turkey where this transition is best preserved. The adakitic lithologies comprise porphyries and hyaloclastites. The porphyries are represented by biotite-rich andesites, hornblende-rich andesite and dacite. The hayaloclastites represent the final stage of adakitic activity and they were generated by eruption/intrusion of adakitic andesitic magma into soft carbonate mud. The non-adakitic lithologies include basaltic-andesitic volcanic and associated pyroclastic rocks. Both rock groups are cutting by basaltic dikes representing the final stage of the Cenozoic magmatism in the study area. We report zircon U-Pb ages of 48.71 ± 0.74 Ma for the adakitic rocks, and 44.68 ± 0.84 Ma for the non-adakitic type, suggesting that there is no significant time gap during the transition from adakitic to non-adakitic magmatism. We evaluate the origin, magma processes and tectonic setting of the magmatism in the southern part of the eastern Pontides orogenic belt. Our results have important bearing on the late Mesozoic-Cenozoic geodynamic evolution of the eastern Mediter- ranean region.
