This study sets the objective to involve undergraduate students in the evaluation of radiologic sciences and medical imaging technology programmes in Sudanese universities. Based on the analysis of survey results in which the participants (BSc students undertaking radiologic sciences and medical imaging technology programmes at university level) are asked to answer both closed and open-ended questions, the study seeks to reveal the participants’ perceptions and introspections about the radiologic sciences and medical imaging technology programmes in Sudan. It also attempts to explore the participants’ suggestions and recommendations as to enhance the quality of these programmes with an eye to helping syllabus designers to improve these programmes, thereby bettering healthcare services for the larger good to the community. A brief cross-sectional survey is completed by a total of 105 radiologic sciences and medical imaging technology students, i.e. 39 (37.1%) third-year students and 66 (62.9%) fourth-year students. The majority of participants is satisfied with the programmes, indicating that they are up-to-date and ran abreast with the latest developments in the field. Very few suggest that the programmes should be reviewed for revision, implying that there is room for improvement. Some participants recommend that more training hours in modern imaging modalities (e.g. MRI, CT and U/S) should be introduced. Only one participant recommends the introduction of advanced training centres.

Objective:To evaluate the combination therapy of pyronaridine tetraphosphate and diminazene aceturate against Babesia in vitro and in ***:Bioinformatic analysis was performed using atom pair *** in vitro combination test was performed against Babesia bovis and Theileria ***,the in vivo chemotherapeutic efficacy of pyronaridine tetraphosphate in combination with diminazene aceturate was investigated against the growth of Babesia microti in mice using a fluorescence inhibitory ***:Pyronaridine tetraphosphate and diminazene aceturate exhibited nearly similar molecular *** in vitro combination of pyronaridine tetraphosphate and diminazene aceturate was synergistic on Babesia bovis and additive on Theileria *** addition,5 mg/kg pyronaridine tetraphosphate combined with 10 mg/kg diminazene aceturate inhibited Babesia microti growth significantly compared with those observed after treatment with 25 mg/kg diminazene aceturate alone from day 6 post treatment to day 12 post *** combination therapy also normalized the hematological parameters of infected ***:An oral dose of pyronaridine tetraphosphate combined with a subcutaneous dose of diminazene aceturate inhibits Babesia in vitro and in mice,suggesting it might be a new paradigm for the treatment of babesiosis.

Background: Spinal dysraphism represents a wide spectrum of congenital abnormalities of the spine. Myelomeningocele is considered the most common malformation and the most common we saw in our community, with its morbidity problems seen commonly in the postoperative period. ASQ-3TM Scores are the ages and stages questionnaire, third edition, and represent a tool to assess the development progress, especially in toddlers. Objectives: Evaluation of neurodevelopmental outcome among Sudanese toddlers with spinal dysraphism after surgical closure with or without a VP shunt using ASQ-3TM Scores. Methodology: This is a retrospective hospital-based study of 84 patients who underwent myelomeningocele repair at the National Center for Neurological Sciences (NCNS) during the period from 2017 up to 2019. Data were collected through a constructed questionnaire, including ASQ-3TM Scores. Data were processed and analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) computer program. Version 25. Results: 84 patients were included in this study;all patients were diagnosed with spinal dysraphism. Out of them, 51 (60.7%) were 2 years old, 33 (39.3%) were 3 years old, 45 (53.6%) were male, 45 (53.6%) of patients mothers attended ANC irregularly, and 54 (64.3%) their mothers didn’t receive folate supplements. 44 (52.3%) of patients underwent MMC repair only, while 40 (47.7%) underwent MMC repair and VP shunt. The commonest postoperative complication was infection, reported in 12 (14.3%) of patients, followed by VP shunt revision in 9 (10.7%) of patients. Neurological assessment showed that the majority of patients need further assessment with a professional, 57 (67.9%) of children don’t walk, run, or climb like other toddlers as their parent’s state;also, half of patients (42, 50%) had medical problems, and 27 (32.1%) of their parent’s state that they do not talk like other toddlers their age. Many metabolic factors are associated with chronic hepatitis C virus(HCV)infection and can influence the course of the illness and impact the progression of liver and non-liver-related diseases through complex *** of these factors impact the course of chronic HCV(CHC)and result in the conceptual translation of CHC from a localized to systemic *** the traditional liver manifestations associated with CHC infection,such as cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma,various extrahepatic disorders are associated with HCV infection,including atherosclerosis,glucose and lipid metabolic disturbances,alterations in the iron metabolic pathways,and lymphoproliferative *** coexistence of metabolic disorders and CHC is known to influence the chronicity and virulence of HCV and accelerates the progression to liver fibrosis and hepatocellular *** resistance is one of the key factors that have a tremendous metabolic impact on ***,there is a great need to properly evaluate patients with CHC infection and correct the modifiable metabolic risk ***,patients with HCV who achieved a sustained virological response showed an overall improvement in glucose metabolism,but the exact evidence still requires further studies with long-term *** review delineates the most recent evidence on the main metabolic factors associated with CHC and the possible influence of chronic HCV infection on metabolic features.

Background and Aims:Strategies for detection of early hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)are still *** GALAD score is a serum biomarker-based model designed to predict the probability of having *** aimed to assess the ability of GALAD score to diagnose early HCC and its validity to follow patients after local ablation ***:This multicenter prospective study included 108 patients in two groups,58 HCC patients(67 focal lesions)with local ablative therapy(study group),and a control group of 50 patients with liver *** GALAD scores of the study and control groups,and of the HCC patients before and after ablative therapy were ***:Most patients were men(74.1%in study group and 76%in controls)with hepatitis C virus infection(98.30%in the study group,and 94%in controls).GALAD scores were significantly higher in HCC patients than in those with benign cirrhosis(2.65 vs.−0.37,p=0.001).Ablative therapy was successful in 94.4%of focal lesions<2 cm,and in 86.10%of 2–5 cm *** GALAD score was also significantly lower at 1 month after ablation in patients with well-ablated tumors(2.19 vs.0.98,p=0.001).The best cutoff values of GALAD score for diagnosis of early HCC,and for prediction of well ablation of HCC were 0.74 and≤3.31(areas under the curve of 0.92 and 0.75,sensitivities of 84.48%and 76.19%,specificities of 89.13%and 83.33%,positive predictive values of 90.74%and 94.1%,and negative predictive values of 82%and 35.7%respectively).Conclusion:The GALAD score was effective for the diagnosis of early HCC and for followup after ablative therapy.

This study aims to assess the small ruminant value chain in Al-Ruwaished District,Jordan,to identify the potential intervention areas that could improve the production efficiency and guarantee the sustainability of the small ruminant sector in this *** breeding is the source of livelihood for most of the people in Al-Ruwaished District,which is characterized by the large number of sheep and *** surveyed 5.0% of the small ruminant holders in the study area and conducted individual interviews and surveys with the potential actors in the value chain to undertake a small ruminant value chain *** the survey,we found that the small ruminant value chain consists of five core functions,namely,input supply,production management,marketing,processing,and *** the stable impression given by the large number of holdings in the small ruminant sector,the surveyed results show a clear fragility in the value chain of small ruminants in this *** small ruminant production system is negatively impacted by climate change,especially continuous *** addition,the high prices of feed that the farmer cannot afford with clear and real absence of the governmental and non-governmental support activities also impact the development of the value *** results of strengths,weaknesses,opportunities,and threats(SWOT)analysis reveal that the major constraints faced by this value chain could be divided into external and internal ***,the most prominent external threats are the nature of the desert land and continuous drought,while the major internal threats are the absence of appropriate infrastructure,shortage of inputs,and weakness in the production management and *** proposed solutions to these challenges to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of the sector,such as the formulation of emergency response plans to severe weather,qualifying farmers’skills,and establishment of agricultural cooperative societies.

Internal fixator vs external fixator in the management of unstable pelvic ring injuries:A prospective comparative cohort study

BACKGROUND Reconstruction of the pelvic ring anatomy in unstable anterior pelvic ring injuries is a significant step to reduce the mortality rate associated with these injuries *** is a debate on using either an anterior subcutaneous pelvis internal fixator(INFIX)or an anterior supra-acetabular external fixator(EXFIX)to manage an unstable anterior pelvic ring *** To compare the functional and radiological outcomes and complications of INFIX vs EXFIX in managing unstable pelvic ring *** A prospective cohort study included 54 patients with unstable pelvic ring *** patients were divided into two groups;the INFIX group,in which 30 cases were fixed by INFIX,and the EXFIX group,in which 24 patients were treated by *** average age in the EXFIX group was 31.17 years(16-57 years),while in the INFIX group,it was 34.5 years(17-53 years).The study included 20(66.7%)males and 10(33.3%)females in the INFIX group and 10(41.7%)males and 14(58.3%)females in the EXFIX *** radiological outcomes were evaluated using Matta and Tornetta's score,and the functional outcomes using the Majeed *** The results revealed a statistically significant difference between both groups(P=0.013)regarding radiological outcomes,according to Matta and Tornetta's score in favor of the INFIX ***,standing,and walking abilities were measured at a 3-mo follow-up visit using Majeed score *** was significantly better among the INFIX group than the EXFIX group in all three *** the final follow-up,both groups had no statistically significant difference according to the Majeed score;92.35 in the INFIX group and 90.99 in the EXFIX group(P=0.513).A lower surgical site infection rate was noticed in the INFIX group(P=0.007).CONCLUSION Anterior subcutaneous pelvis INFIX is associated with better radiological outcomes and a lower infection rate than anterior supra-acetabular EXFIX in managing patients with unstable anterior pelvic

Calpains are calcium-activated cysteine proteases. There are two main isoforms of calpain that are ubiquitously expressed in tissues, calpain μ or calpain 1, which requires micromolar Ca2+ for activation, and calpain or 2, which requires millimolar Ca2+ for activation. The presence of other calpains is tissue specific. Atherosclerosis (AS) is an important risk factor for cerebral infarction, coronary heart disease and peripheral vascular disease. It was originally thought that AS was caused by impaired lipid metabolism. This research briefly reviewed Calpain Family, the structure and activation mechanism of calpain1, Calpains in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis, NLRP3 structural characteristics and activation, ROS/NLRP3 inflammasome activation mechanism and ROS/NLRP3 inflammasome in atherosclerosis. The research showed that the Calpain-1 may play an important role in mitochondrial ROS/NLRP3 inflammasome in atherosclerosis.

Hearing Assessment among Sudanese Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients versus Non-Rheumatoid Arthritis Individuals

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) disease is one of the most common chronic autoimmune diseases that affect many body systems including the auditory system. Objectives: To assess hearing thresholds and to ascertain types of hearing loss among Sudanese rheumatoid arthritis patients attending rheumatology clinic in Omdurman military hospital and matching them with non-rheumatoid arthritis subjects. Methodology: This descriptive and analytic (comparative) hospital based cross sectional study conducted from October 2020 to April 2021 which include 66 RA patients with age range (21 - 60 years) matched with 41 non-rheumatoid arthritis group sharing same characteristics (nation, gender and age). Pure tone audiometry, tympanometry and acoustic reflexes were done for all RA patients and matched groups. Statistical analysis of the data was carried out using the association and correlation tests for associations and t-test for independent samples. Results: Thirty-six (54.5%) of RA patients had hearing impairment versus 9 (22%) non-RA in PTA test. Twenty-four RA cases (36.3%) showed asymmetrical hearing threshold and graph in PTA between right and left ears. Thirty-four (51.5%) right and 36 (54.5%) left ears were normal degree followed by 23 (34.8%) in the right and 24 (36.4%) in the left ears were mild degree hearing loss. Among hearing impaired RA patients;20 right ears (62.5%) and 19 left ears (65.5%) had sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL), conductive hearing loss 11 (34.4%) right ears and 9 (31%) left ears. Mixed HL was in 1 right ear (3.1%) and 1 left ear (3.5%). The most common degree of SNHL type was mild in (75%) and (78.9%) in right and left ears respectively, moderate and moderate severe were (20%) in the right and (15.7%) in the left ears. Fifty-eight right ears (87.9%) and 56 left ears (84.8%) had type A tympanogram while 7 (10.6%) right ears and 9 left ears (13.6%) were type As tympanogram, one right and one left ears had type Ad tympanogram.
