Association of Streptococcus bovis presence in colonic content with advanced colonic lesion

Impact of Helicobacter pylori virulence markers on clinical outcomes in adult populations

Inflammatory bowel disease is thought to be caused by an aberrant immune response to gut bacteria in a genetically susceptible host. The gut microbiota plays an important role in the pathogenesis and complications of the two main inflammatory bowel diseases: Crohn's disease(CD) and ulcerative colitis. Alterations in gut microbiota, and specifically reduced intestinal microbial diversity, have been found to be associated with chronic gut inflammation in these disorders. Specific bacterial pathogens, such as virulent Escherichia coli strains, Bacteroides spp, and Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis, have been linked to the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease. Antibiotics may influence the course of these diseases by decreasing concentrations of bacteria in the gut lumen and altering the composition of intestinal microbiota. Different antibiotics, including ciprofloxacin, metronidazole, the combination of both, rifaximin, and anti-tuberculous regimens have been evaluated in clinical trials for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. For the treatment of active luminal CD, antibiotics may have a modest effect in decreasing disease activity and achieving remission, and are more effective in patients with disease involving the colon. Rifamixin, a non absorbable rifamycin has shown promising results. Treatment of suppurative complications of CD such as abscesses and fistulas, includes drainage and antibiotic therapy, most often ciprofloxacin, metronidazole, or a combination of both. Antibiotics might also play a role in maintenance of remission and prevention of post operative recurrence of CD. Data is more sparse for ulcerative colitis, and mostly consists of small trials evaluating ciprofloxacin, metronidazole and rifaximin. Most trials did not show a benefit for the treatment of active ulcerative colitis with antibiotics, though 2 meta-analyses concluded that antibiotic therapy is associated with a modest improvement in clinical symptoms. Assessment of the Vaccination Status of Children Aged 6 to 30 Months in a Tertiary Level Health Care Center in Côte d’Ivoire

Introduction: Vaccination coverage in Côte d’Ivoire over the period 2011 to 2015 was below the target of 95% for all antigens. The objective of this study was to analyze the vaccination status of children aged 6 to 30 months with a view to improving vaccination coverage. Patients and Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study which took place from June to September 2018 in a tertiary health center, focusing on children aged 6 to 30 months with a correctly completed health record. The parameters studied were sex, age, educational level of mothers, dates of vaccine administration and reason for missed vaccination opportunities. Results: We retained 212 children. The sex ratio was 1.21 and 93% had received the BCG vaccine before the age of 1 month. The average ages of combined and co-administered vaccines for the 1st and 2nd doses were 7.66 ± 3.81 and 12.88 ± 3.95 weeks, respectively. The median was 16.57 weeks for the 3rd dose. The proportion of vaccinated subjects was greater than 90% for the BCG vaccine and the 3 doses of combined vaccines, and 77% for the yellow fever and measles vaccines. The reasons for non-vaccination were attributable to the children’s parents and health facilities. Conclusion: Improving vaccination coverage requires regular supply of vaccines to centers, and the involvement of all health professionals, community and religious leaders in the vaccination awareness process.

Accelerating CFD–DEM simulation of processes with wide particle size distributions

Sizereduction systems have been extensively used in industry for many years. Nevertheless, reliable engi neering tools to be used to predict the comminution of particles are scarce. Computational fluid dynamics （CFD）discrete element model （DEM） numerical simulation may be used to predict such a complex phe nomenon and therefore establish a proper design and optimization model for comminution systems, They may also be used to predict attrition in systems where particle attrition is significant. Therefore, empirical comminution functions （which are applicable for any attrition/comminution process）, such as： strength distribution, selection, equivalence, breakage, and fatigue, have been integrated into the three dimensional CFDDEM simulation tool. The main drawback of such a design tool is the long computational time required owing to the large number of particles and the minute timestep required to maintain a steady solution while simulating the flow of particulate materials with very fine particles. The present study developed several methods to accelerate CFDDEM simulations： reducing the num ber of operations carried out at the singleparticle level, constructing a DEM grid detached from the CFD grid enabling a no binary search, generating a subgrid within the DEM grid to enable a no binary search for fine particles, and increasing the computational timestep and eliminating the finest particles in the simulation while still tracking their contribution to the process. The total speedup of the simulation process without the elimination of the finest particles was a factor of about 17. The elimination of the finest particles gave additional speedup of a factor of at least 18. Therefore, the simulation of a grinding process can run at least 300 times faster than the conventional method in which a standard no binary search is employed and the smallest particles are tracked.

Recovery of plastics from dumpsites and landfills to prevent marine plastic pollution in Thailand

Marine plastic pollution has become a major threat to the *** increasing production and use of plastic,combined with limitations of waste management practices,mean the leakage of plastic waste into the environment is bound to *** study focuses on the determination of plastic recovery potential from dumpsites and landfills in Thailand,to potentially prevent marine plastic *** this study,two dumpsites were analysed wherein an average of 42% of plastic was found to be *** value,when extrapolated for Thailand,is equivalent to 187.9 million tonnes of plastic waste in dumpsites and *** there are 2380 dumpsites in the country,this study suggests that 973 of these spread over 42 provinces are located near water bodies or coastline,which should be considered as a *** plastic waste recovered from these dumpsites can be treated by co-fuelling in cement *** kilns can valorise plastic waste as they can reach up to 75%energy recovery from waste,which is much higher compared to traditional waste-to-energy *** adequate incentives and sound regulations,cement industries could help in the reduction of marine plastic pollution with controlled emissions and a very large capacity to co-fuel cement production,there is a readily available solution to manage the large volumes of solid waste generated.

We study a model of dark matter in which the hidden sector interacts with standard model particles via a hidden photonic *** investigate the effects of this new interaction on the hydrogen atom,including the Stark,Zeeman and hyperfine *** the accuracy of the measurement of energy,we obtain an upper bound for the coupling constant of the model as f≤10^-*** also calculate the contribution from the hidden photonic portal to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon as αμ≤ 2.2 × 10^-23（for the dark particle mass scale 100MeV）,which provides an important probe of physics beyond the standard model.
