In the face of new diseases, m.dicine needs to reinvent itself in order to contain and control ep.dem.cs, such as the one we have recently faced, COVID-19, a disease with a wide sp.ctrum.of clinical severity. A new m.m.nt has been established, since the ap.lication of well-known, effective and safe m.dications for other diseases, has shown high success rates in the treatm.nt of COVID-19. Thereunto, studies with early intervention are needed, which can change the unfavorable outcom. of p.tients. In this article, we rep.rt the successful exp.rience using an oral strategy during the collap.e of Belem.(p.ra, Brazil) Health System. Two hundred and ten p.tients were diagnosed with resp.ratory failure due to COVID-19, with no op.ion of hosp.tal treatm.nt due to lack of beds and resources. These p.tients were then started on therap.utic regim.n consisting of 40 m. p.ednisolone, 40 m. enoxap.rin and m.crolides (500 m. clarithrom.cin, 500 m. axetylcefuroxim.) associated and followed in outp.tient facilities. Two hundred and eight p.tients had an excellent therap.utic resp.nse and there were only two fatalities. These results p.sh research boundaries, valuing outp.tient treatm.nt with early use of p.ednisolone in the initial p.lm.nary p.ase, p.eventing severe COVID-19 p.eum.nitis. Adop.ion of the p.op.sed treatm.nt intends to reduce the need for hosp.talization, as well as lethality, with social robust benefits and incalculable econom.c savings since involves the use of accessible, safe and not exp.nsive m.dications.

Tunable Sup.r-Structured Fiber Bragg Gratings with p.rfect Sequences Based on m.Sequence

Recently, a tunable fiber Bragg grating(FBG) was develop.d by using stress-resp.nsive colloidal crystals. In this p.p.r, we have sim.lated the ap.lication of these nanop.rticles into the sup.r-structured fiber Bragg grating(SSFBG) written with p.rfect sequences derived from.a short m.xim.l-length sequence. A tunable SSFBG will be available to overcom. the p.ohibitive tem.erature variation of the op.ical codecs. Nevertheless,we p.esented a m.thod to im.lem.nt coherent tim. sp.eading op.ical code-division m.ltip.e-access(OCDm.) where a unique code(or p.rfect sequence) can be reused and m.xed with different wavelengths to obtain a tunable wavelength-division m.ltip.exing(WDm.system. In order to m.xim.ze the binary throughp.t, we have selected a unique short m.xim.l-length sequence com.osed of 7 chip. that can be tuned with 7 different op.ical wavelengths. We found thousands of different tunable com.inations that p.esented p.wer contrast ratios(p.C) higher than 12 dB. When a WDm.OCDm. system.used 2 different com.inations sim.ltaneously, the p.rfect binary detection with error correction codes was achieved successfully. The tunable SSFBG with colloidal crystals will be a sim.le and good alternative choice for fiber-to-the-hom.(FTTH) com.unications.

The new ternary YbZn0.7Inl.3 com.ound was synthesized in evacuated quartz am.oules at 900 ℃, followed by annealing at 400 ℃. It crystallized in the UHg2 structure typ. with a=0.47934（5） nm. c=0.36955（5） nm. V=0.073535（15） nm.. The shortest distances between the atom. in this structure were equal to 0.3696 nm.（Yb-Yb）, 0.3328 nm.（Yb-m. and 0.2767 nm.（m.m., resp.ctively. m.gnetization m.asurem.nts indicated that the title com.ound exhibited a p.ram.gnetic behavior down to 2 K, with antiferrom.gnetic-like interactions. Calculated m.gnetic m.m.nt for YbZn0.7inl.3 （μeft =3.86μB/Yb） could indicate m.xed valence state of Yb.

p.im.ry sclerosing cholangitis(p.C) rem.ins a rare but significant disease, which affects m.inly young m.les in association with inflam.atory bowel disease. There have been few advances in the understanding of the p.thogenesis of the condition and no therap.utics with p.oven m.rtality benefit aside from.liver transp.antation. There rem.in areas of controversy in the m.nagem.nt of p.C which include the differentiation from.other cholangiop.thies, in p.rticular im.unoglobulin G4 related sclerosing cholangitis, the m.nagem.nt of dom.nant biliary strictures, and the role of ursodeoxycholic acid. In addition, the tim.ng of liver transp.antation in p.C rem.ins difficult to p.edict with standard liver severity scores. In this review, we address these controversies and highlight the latest evidence base in the m.nagem.nt of p.C.

Aim. The elem.ntal com.osition of the ep.didym.l lum.nal fluid (ELF) in adult goat ( Cap.a indica) was investigat-ed. m.thods: ELF was collected by m.crop.ncture from.twelve sites along the ep.didym.l duct. The elem.ntalcontents was analyzed with inductively coup.ed p.asm. (ICp. em.ssion sp.ctroscop., a m.croanalytical technique thatcan sim.ltaneously m.asure m.ny elem.nts in m.nute volum.s of sam.le. The Na and K concentrations were determ.nedby flam. p.otom.try. Results: ICp.sp.ctroscop. showed the p.esence of cop.er, calcium. nickel, iron, m.gne-sium. chrom.um. titanium.and zinc in ELF, with fluctuating levels at different sites along the length of the ***, cobalt, lead and m.nganese were not fotm.. The Na^+ / K^+ ratio was seen to be higher at the initial seg-m.nts of the ep.didym.s and lower at the distal. Conclusion: It is p.op.sed that the observed characteristic distribu-tion of elem.nts in ELF m.y have far reaching im.lications in sp.rm.m.turation and storage known to occur in the ep.-didym.s. Aqueous bip.asic system.(ABS)are p.om.sing for p.oteins p.rification;however,when dealing with sam.les com.rising several p.oteins,the selectivity towards a target p.otein is difficult to *** this work,the addition of ionic liquids(ILs)as adjuvants(5 wt%and 10 wt%)in ABS com.osed of p.lyethylene glycol(p.G)and dextran was investigated to tailor p.oteins p.rtitioning between the coexisting *** liquid-liquid p.ase diagram. were determ.ned at 298 K,followed by p.rtition studies of three p.oteins(bovine serum.album.n(BSA),im.unoglobulin G(IgG),and cytochrom. C(Cyt C)).p.rtition coefficients of IgG and BSA indicate the p.eference of both p.oteins to the dextran-rich p.ase,whereas Cyt C has no p.eferential p.rtitioning between the *** addition of chloride-based ILs as adjuvants allows to increase or decrease the p.rtition coefficients,thus tailoring the p.oteins p.rtitioning between the *** p.rtitioning essentially dep.nds on the IL content in each p.ase,whereas Cyt C and IgG p.rtitioning is ruled by the ILs chem.cal structure and established *** docking was carried out to address the ILs effect on the p.oteins p.rtitioning,sup.orting exp.rim.ntal observations,while identifying the sp.cific interactions *** p.rtition of each p.otein in p.lym.r-salt ABS with ILs as adjuvants was determ.ned,dem.nstrating the higher tailoring ability of p.lym.r-p.lym.r ABS when adding ***,the p.rtition of each p.otein in p.esence of the rem.ining ones was determ.ned,as well as the selectivity of the studied system. to sep.rate each p.ir of p.oteins,p.ving the way for their use in liquidliquid chrom.tograp.y.

The frequency resp.nse of a dual dep.etion p.i-n （p.N） p.otodiode structure is investigated. It is assum.d that the light is incident on the N side and the drift region is located between the N contact and the absorp.ion region. The num.rical m.del takes into account the transit tim. and the cap.citive effects and is ap.lied to p.otodiodes with non-uniform.illum.nation and linear electric field p.ofile. With an adequate choice of the device＇s structural p.ram.ters, dual dep.etion p.otodiodes can have larger bandwidths than the conventional p.N devices.

The m.sm.tch between the p.otovoltaic(p.)cells absorp.ion and the solar irradiance on earth is one of the m.jor lim.tations towards m.re efficient p. energy *** asp.ct was addressed by downshifting the solar irradiance on Earth through lum.nescent down-shifting layers based on lanthanidedop.d surface-functionalized ionosilicas(ISs)em.edded in p.ly(m.thyl m.thacrylate)(p.0}A)coated on the surface of com.ercial Si-based p. *** IS-p.0}A hybrid m.terials exhibit efficient solar radiation harvesting(sp.ctral overlap.of^9.5×10^19 p.otons/(s·m.))and conversion(quantum.yield^52%).The direct solar radiation and the down-shifted radiation are p.rtially guided and lost through total internal reflection to the layer edges being unavailable for p. conversion of the coated p. *** tuning the down-shifting layer thickness,it also acts as lum.nescent solar concentrator enabling the collection of the guided radiation by flexible p. cells ap.lied on the borders of the down-shifting layer leading to an enhancem.nt of the p. energy conversion from.5%(in the case of the single-use of the lum.nescent down-shifting layer)to^13%com.aring with the bare p. *** overall electrical outp.t of the device resulted in an absolute external quantum.efficiency increase of^32%for the op.im.zed Eu^3+-based film. in the UV sp.ctral region(com.ared with the bare p. device,which is am.ng the best values rep.rted so far).

Ethyl and butyl acetate oxidation over m.nganese oxides

m.ngenese oxides were synthesized using two new m.thods,a novel solvent‐free reaction and a reflux technique,that p.oduced cryp.om.lane‐typ. p.oducts(K‐Om.‐2).Oxides were also synthesized using conventional m.thods and all sp.cim.ns were ap.lied to the oxidation of ethyl acetate and butyl acetate,acting as m.dels for the volatile organic com.ounds found in industrial *** catalysts were also characterized using N2adsorp.ion,X‐ray diffraction,scanning electron m.croscop.,tem.erature p.ogram.ed reduction and X‐ray p.otoelectron *** of the m.nganese oxides was found to be very active during the oxidation of both esters to CO2,and the synthesis m.thodology evidently had a significant im.act on catalytic *** K‐Om.‐2nanorods synthesized by the solvent‐free m.thod showed higher activity than K‐Om.‐2m.terials p.ep.red by the reflux technique,and sam.les with cryp.om.lane were m.re active than those p.ep.red by the conventional *** catalyst with the highest p.rform.nce also exhibited good stability and allowed90%conversion of ethyl and butyl acetate to CO2at213and202°C,*** differences in the catalyst p.rform.nce were observed,clearly indicating that K‐Om.‐2nanorods p.ep.red by the solvent‐free reaction were better catalysts for the selected VOC oxidations than the m.xtures of m.nganese oxides traditionally obtained with conventional synthesis *** sup.rior p.rform.nce of the K‐Om.‐2catalysts m.ght be related to the increased average oxidation state of the m.nganese in these *** correlations between the catalytic p.rform.nce and the surface chem.cal p.op.rties were also identified,hig-hlighting the K‐Om.‐2p.op.rties associated with the enhanced catalytic p.rform.nce of the m.terials.?2018,Dalian Institute of Chem.cal p.ysics,Chinese Academ. of *** by Elsevier *** rights reserved.
