Analgesic Activities of Methanol Extract of <i>Terminalia chebula</i>Fruit

Pain is a sensation which in many cases represents the only symptom for the diagnosis of several disorders. Throughout ages man has used many different remedies for pain relief, among which medicinal herbs are most common due to their efficacy and relative safety due to their natural origin. In present study methanol extract of Terminalia chebula fruit was evaluated for its analgesic effects in albino mice. The extract was prepared using whole dried powdered fruit with seeds in absolute methanol. It was then subjected to rotary evaporator under reduced pressure to get concentrated extract;different doses (300, 500 and 1000 mg/kg) were assessed for analgesic activity by tail immersion technique and acetic acid induced writhing test. Similar doses of Aspirin were used as standard drug (positive control) for comparison. Results of both tail flick method and acetic acid induced writhing test revealed that T. chebula fruit extract possessed varying degree of analgesic activity significant at 300 mg/kg and highly significant at 500 and 1000 mg/kg in comparison to control. The results were almost similar to standard drug. In acetic acid induced writhing test, maximum inhibition of writhing was observed at 1000 mg/kg where the number of writhes decreased from 14.1 to 5.2 indicating 63.1% inhibition. Above findings suggest that T. chebula fruit extract possesses significant analgesic activity in albino mice with reference to positive and negative control groups;however further studies on a large number of animals with clinical trials are required to confirm safe and effective use of this fruit extract in humans for analgesic purpose.

Interaction of antipsychotic drug with novel surfactants: Micellization and binding studies

The interaction of cationic gemini surfactants(alkanediyl-α,ω-bis(alkyl dimethylammonium bromide)) with an antipsychotic drug(chlorpromazine hydrochloride(CPZ)) has been investigated. Various micellar and interfacial parameters have been deliberated by surface tension measurement to report the nature of interactions between drug and novel surfactant mixtures. The behavior of mixed systems, their compositions and activities of components have been analyzed in the light of Rubingh's theory. The results indicate synergism in the binary *** binding study between CPZ and surfactants has been done by spectroscopic techniques such as UV–visible and fluorescence. The results are discussed in the light of the use of gemini surfactants as promising drug delivery agents for phenothiazine drugs, and hence, improve their bioavailability.

Physio-chemical characterization of municipal solid waste and its management in high-altitude urban areas of North-Western Himalayas

Municipal solid waste(MSW)management is the most challenging environmental issue in developing countries around global *** mountainous regions,very few studies can be found and the availability of limited data,because waste management poses different challenges due to different climate,topography,and geographical *** study has been conducted in three urban areas of the Kashmir region(i.e.,Baramulla,Kupwara,and Bandipora)in the western ***,waste management is underdeveloped and openly dumped in an unscientific manner near to the rivers,streams,and lakes,which increases the threat of contamination to ground and surface water,*** present study aimed to analyze the current scenario of the MSW management system and its waste generation *** Physio-chemical characterization of municipal solid waste was carried out by using a quarter and cone *** analysis of samples was performed by using muffle furnace and bomb calorimeter for chemical analysis,*** findings of the MSW generation of urban areas of Kashmir were approximately 181.43 Mt/day(93.73 Mt/day in Baramulla,57.46 Mt/day in Kupwara,and 30.27 Mt/day in Bandipora),***,the findings of MSW showed high organic waste between(10.3%-68.5%),followed by recyclable waste(12.3%-15.30%),and inert waste(8.27%-9.10%),***,the chemical characterization results showed average moisture content varying between(47.6%-52.40%)with the lower calorific values of(1017-1175.6 kcal/kg)in the areas mentioned *** conclusion,alternative treatment methods were proposed,for instance,compositing,biomethane plants,the installation of recycling plants,and upgrading the existing dumping sites to sanitary-engineered landfills.

In-depth analysis of VARTM-based solid-state supercapacitors utilizing CNT-dispersed cobalt-bismuth-samarium ternary hydroxide on woven carbon fiber for enhanced energy storage

Multi-metal hydroxides possess unique physical and chemical properties,making them promising candidates for supercapacitor working *** their electrochemical performance can be achieved through a combination with carbon *** this study,we synthesized a composite material by hydrothermally dispersed 4,6,and 10 wt%carbon nanotubes(CNT)into ternary cobaltbismuth-samarium hydroxide(CoBiSm-TOH).These nanocomposites were employed as the material for the working electrode in a *** findings reveal that at 1.5 A/g,the specific capacitance of CNT3@CoBiSm-TOH,using a three-electrode system,was found to be 852.91 F/g,higher than that of CoBi-BOH,CoBiSm-TOH,CNT1@CoBiSm-TOH and CNT5@CoBiSm-TOH-measuring 699.69,750.34,789.54 and 817.79 F/g,***,CNT3@CoBiSm-TOH electrodes exhibited a capacitance retention of around 88%over 10,000 *** demonstrate practical applicability,CNT3@CoBiSm-TOH was grown on woven carbon fiber(WCF),and a solid-state supercapacitor device was developed using the VARTM(vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding).This device displayed a specific capacitance of 272.67 F/g at 2.25 A/***,it achieved a maximum energy density of 53.01 Wh/kg at a power density of 750 W/kg and sustained excellent cycle stability over 50,000 cycles,maintaining 70%of its initial *** results underscore the importance of interfacial nanoengineering and provide crucial insights for the development of future energy storage devices.

Acidulation and Regeneration of Bamboo Derived Sorbents for Gas Phase Adsorption of Elemental Mercury

This paper presents results that illustrate the recycling of a bamboo derived sorbent used for the capture of elemental mercury (Hg0). The bamboo derived sorbent used is essentially a HCl functionalized activated carbon prepared from carbonization and CO2 activation of raw bamboo, that could potentially provide an alternative way to existing methods in removing mercury from flue gases from coal-fired plants. In this study, the bamboo derived sorbents were tested in a batch test using a mercury permeation tube as the source and nitrogen as a carrier gas. The recycling or regeneration of an activated carbon is an important issue to address from a coal-fired power plant point of view, and an attempt has been made to test the behavior of bamboo derived sorbents with various treatments including carbonized, carbonized-activated, carbonized-activated-acidulated, and then a follow-up recycled run after sample treatments in gas phase. From the study, it was found that bamboo derived activated carbon can be successfully acidulated using various normalities of HCl where weak solutions can be very effective in functionalizing the surface of the sorbent and capturing mercury. In order to recycle and reuse bamboo derived sorbents, stronger normalities of HCl would be desired.

The mixed micellization behavior of an amphiphilic antidepressant drug amitriptyline hydrochloride(AMT)in the presence of the conventional anionic surfactant sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate(AOT)was studied at five different temperatures and compositions by the conductometric *** critical micelle concentration(cmc)and critical micelle concentration at the ideal state(cmcid)values show mixed micelle formation between the components(i.e.,drug and AOT).The micellar mole fractions of the AOT(X1)values calculated using the Rubingh,Motomura,and Rodenas models show a higher contribution of AOT in the mixed *** interaction parameter(β)is negative at all temperatures and the compositions show attractive interactions between the *** activity coefficients(f1and f2)calculated using the different proposed models are always less than unity indicating non-ideality in the ***ΔGmΘ values were found to be negative for all the binary mixed ***,ΔHmΘ values for the pure drug as well as the drug-AOT mixed systems are negative at lower temperatures(293.15-303.15 K)and positive at higher temperatures(308.15 K and above).TheΔSmΘ values are positive at all temperatures but their magnitude was higher at T=308.15 K and *** excess free energy of mixing(ΔGex)determined using the different proposed models also explains the stability of the mixed micelles compared to the pure drug(AMT)and surfactant micelles.

The mixed micelle formation of binary cationic 14-s-14 gemini with conventional single chain surfactants was studied by conductivity *** critical micelle concentration(cmc) and the degree of counterion binding values(g) of the binary systems were *** results were analyzed by applying regular solution theory(RST) to calculate micellar compositions(X),activity coefficients(f1,f2),and the interaction parameters(β).The synergistic interactions of all the investigated cationic gemini+conventional surfactant combinations were found to be dependent upon the length of hydrophobic spacer of the gemini *** excess Gibbs free energy of mixing was evaluated,and it indicated relatively more stable mixed micelles for the binary combinations.

Mechanical breakdown and thrombolysis in subacute massive pulmonary embolism: A prospective trial

AIM: To assess role of combined modality of mechanical fragmentation and intralesional thrombolysis in patients with massive pulmonary embolism presenting subacutely. METHODS: Eight of 70 patients presenting in tertiary care centre of North India with massive pulmonary embolism within 4 years had subacute presentation (symptom onset more than 2 wk). These patients were subjected to pulmonary angiography with intention to treat basis via mechanical breakdown and intra lesional thrombolysis. Mechanical breakdown of embolus was accomplished with 5-F multipurpose catheter to reestablish flow, followed by intralesional infusion of urokinase (4400 IU/kg over 10 min followed by 4400 IU/kg per hour over 24 h). RESULTS: Eight patients, mean age 47.77±12.20 years presented with subacute pulmonary embolism (mean duration of symptoms 2.4 wk). At presentation, mean heart rate, shock index, miller score and mean pulmonary pressures were 101.5±15.2/min, 0.995±0.156, 23.87±3.76 and 37.62±6.67 mmHg which reduced to 91.5±12.2/min (P=0.0325), 0.789±0.139 (P=0.0019), 5.87±1.73 (P=0.0000004) and 27.75±8.66 mmHg (P=0.0003) post procedurally. Mean BP improved from 80.00±3.09 mmHg to 90.58±9.13 mmHg (P=0.0100) post procedurally. Minor complications in the form of local hematoma-minor hematoma in 1 (12.5%), and pseudoaneurysm (due to femoral artery puncture) in 1 (12.5 %) patient were seen. At 30 d and 6 mo follow up survival rate was 100% and all the patients were asymptomatic and in New York Heart Association class 1. CONCLUSION: Combined modality of mechanical fragmentation and intralesional thrombolysis appears to be a promising alternative to high risk surgical procedures in patients with subacute massive pulmonary embolism.
