The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of silver nitrate in the in vitro development and conservation of passion fruit plants. Experiments were carried out at the Laboratory of Culture and Tissues, in the National Cassava and Fruits Research Center (EMBRAPA), using microcuttings of Passiflora gibertii N. E. Br., previously cultivated in vitro. The microcuttings were placed in MS media supplemented with silver nitrate at concentrations of 0, 1, 2, 4 and 8 mg·L-1, and, during 30, 60 and 90 days, the following variables were identified: Shooting length (cm), number of roots, number and coloration of leaves. A completely randomized design with 30 replications in a split-plot scheme was employed. Polynomial regression equations were adjusted in analysis of variance to compare averages of treatments. The obtained results support the assumption of high sensitivity of passion fruit tissues to ethylene, which reflects in the lost of vigor and in the induction of culture senescence by its accumulation. Based on obtained results, and in order to mitigate this problem, it is possible to indicate an addition of 2 mg·L-1?of silver nitrate in culture media, for the micropropagation of passion fruit plant, allowing the controlling of the atmosphere inside the culture test tubes, during the establishment of explants and other steps of the process.

Effect of overnight temperature on leaf photosynthesis in seedlings of Swietenia macrophylla King

After exposure of one-year old seedlings of Swietenia macrophylla to an overnight temperature (13 C, 19 C, 25 C, 31 C or 35 C), the leaf net photosynthetic rate (Pn) was researched through measuring photosynthetic light-response curves at 360 mmolmol-1 CO2, and photosynthetic CO2-response curves at light-saturated intensity (1500 mmolm-2 s-1). The optimal temperature for photosynthesis measured at 360 mmol穖ol-1 CO2 was from 25 C to 31 C, but which was from 31C to 35 C at saturating CO2 concentration. At temperature of below 25 C, the decline in Pn was mainly due to the drop in carboxylation efficiency (Ce), while as temperature was over 31 C, the reduction in Pn resulted from both decrease in Ce and increase in leaf respiration. The CO2-induced stimulation of photosynthesis was strongly inhibited at temperatures below 13 C. The results showed that, the leaf photosynthesis of tropical evergreen plants should not be accelerated at low temperature in winter season with elevated CO2 concentration in the future.

^(99m)Tc in the evaluation of microleakage of composite resin restorations with SonicFill^(TM).An in vitro experimental model

Introduction: The composite SonicFillTM (Kerr/Kavo) is indicated for posterior restorations, with a single increment up to 5 mm due to reduced polymerization shrinkage, thus reducing working time. Aim: Evaluation of marginal microleakage with SonicFillTM. Method and Materials: There were sectioned sixty noncarious human molars in the occluso-cervical direction. Class V cavities were prepared on each tooth with gingival margin walls in a standardized way. The specimens were divided into 4 groups: group 1—restored with SonicFillTM (Kerr/Kavo), group 2—restored with FiltekTM SupremeXTE (3M ESPE), group 3—the cavities were not restored;group 4—restored with SonicFillTM (Kerr/Kavo). In groups 1, 2 and 4 the enamel was conditioned with 37% orthophosphoric acid and applied the self-etch adhesive system Clear- fillTM SE BOND (Kuraray). The specimens were stored in distilled water at 37?C for 7 days. After, the specimens, were immersed in a solution of 99mTc-Pertechnetate and the radioactivity was assessed with a gamma camera. The nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney test with Bonferroni correction at a significance level of 5% were used for the statistical analyses. Results: There are significant differences between the positive and negative control groups and between these and experimental groups (p TM and FiltekTM SupremeXTE. Conclusion: The new composite SonicFillTM and FiltekTM SupremeXTE showed no difference concerning dye penetration. The Sonic- FillTM restorative system showed no influence in concerning microleakage.

The Health Education Program Implemented by Nurses Can Improve Blood Pressure Control and Quality of Life in Hypertensive Patients？

The relational strategies in group are to improve patient’s BP （blood pressure） control and QoL （quality of life）. Methods： Twenty-one hypertensive patients were randomized into two groups： group A （10 patients, age 67 ± 6 years, BMI （body mass index） 28.3 ± 6 kg/m2） was applied relational strategies, with meetings every 15 days 8 meetings; group B （11 patients, age 58 ± 13 years, BMI 28.2 ± 3 kg/m2） with meetings for group orientation every 40 days 3 meetings. The patients were monitored： at baseline （day 15） and at the end of the study （day 120）, the BP was measured by auscultatory method and the QoL questionnaire （WHOQOL-BREF） was applied, and was submitted to the examination with ABPM （ambulatory blood pressure monitoring）. Results： after 120 days there was a greater （p 〈 0.05） reduction in SBP （systolic blood pressure） in group A （37.8 ± 25 mmHg） than in group B （18 ± 9 mmHg）, but DBP （diastolic blood pressure） decreased similarly in both groups （A, 15 ± 21 vs B, 13 ± 14 mmHg）; the HR （heart rate） reduction was larger （p 〈 0.05） in group A （60.6 ± 8.9 bpm） than in group B （69.7 ± 10.7 bpm）. There was a more significant BMI decrease （p 〈 0.01） in group A （27.8 ± 5 kg/m2） than in group B （28.9 ± 4 kg/m2）. The observed correlations between physical domain and nightime DBP （at day 120） in ABPM were r = -0.712 （negative correlation, p = 0.003）; between psychological domain and SBP sleep time （at day 120） in ABPM were r = -0.527 （negative correlation, p = 0.044）; between environmental domain and daytime Δ HR in ABPM were r = -0.573 （negative correlation, p = 0.007）. Conclusion： the health education program conducted through interpersonal relationships within groups provided better control of SBP and greater reduction in BMI.

The aim was to determine whether complaints about side effects made by stage Ill hypertensive patients undergoing antihypertensive therapy lead to adequate blood pressure control. Forty-eight patients were monitored by a nurse every 15 days over the course of 180 days. At baseline, both groups presented similar SBP （systolic blood pressure）（GA, 196 （5）） mm Hg and GB, 189 （6） mm Hg） and DBP （diastolic blood pressure）（GA, 122 （3） mm Hg and GB, 121 （4） mm Hg）. On day 165, after a progressive decline in blood pressure levels, the two groups differed significantly from each other regarding SBP （GA, -16.9 （24） mm Hg and GB, -40.8 （31） mm Hg）. At the final follow-up, the patients were allocated to two groups： without complaints （GA） and with （GB） complaints about side effects. Complaining about side effects was a decisive factor for immediate nursing intervention and improved control over BP.

Use of the American Society of Anesthesiologists Classification as an Additional Planning Tool for Renal Cell Carcinoma Assessment

Objective: To determine the prognostic value of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) classification and of the main clinical pathologic variables in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) patients who underwent surgical treatment. Methods: In this international collaborative study, 376 RCC patients who underwent partial nephrectomy (PN) or radical nephrectomy (RN) during the period 1989-2009 were assessed. The pathological data were reviewed by a single pathologist, and all of the surgically treated patients had been previously evaluated by a team of anesthesiologists and classified as ASA 1, ASA 2, or ASA 3. Results: In total, 318 patients were included in the study, with a mean followup of 48 months. Incidental tumors represented 47% of the cases, while 11.6% presented with metastases at diagnosis. Among the patients assessed, 38 (11.9%) were classified as ASA 1, 213 (67%) as ASA 2, and 67 (21.1%) as ASA 3. An association between the ASA classification and the main clinicopathological variables of RCC was observed. The univariate analysis for overall survival (OS) revealed significant differences in the survival curves according to the ASA classification (p < 0.001). High-grade neoplasms, the presence of metastasis at diagnosis, clinical stage III/IV, and incidental tumors remained as independent predictors of survival. Moreover, the multivariate analysis revealed a negative impact of the ASA classification on OS (p = 0.001). Conclusions: The present study demonstrated a correlation between the ASA classification and the main prognostic factors of RCC and its impact on survival rates. ASA 3 patients had more aggressive tumors, increased risk of perioperative complications, and worse outcomes compared with ASA1 or ASA 2. Thus, the ASA classification may be considered an additional tool for assessing and planning the treatment of RCC patients.

尽管后牙直接复合树脂修复材料和技术发展已很成熟，但仍然存在许多问题，如：牙△面磨损速率高，边缘易破损，疗效易受操作者技术的影响。为了延长修复体的使用寿命，通常需要对修复体进行细修整和抛光。尽管修整和抛光的优点很多，但也有缺点，如更易发生边缘破损和耐磨性差：针对这些问题，有必要尝试寻找一种解决的办法。本文对几例临床病例采用了一种修复体不用或少用器械修整的技术。如必需对修复体修整，修整后须用一种特殊的树脂类表面封闭剂处理，可提高修复体修整后的表面强度和边缘密合性。另外，与传统技术相比该项技术的应用还可以改善牙牙合面解剖形态。

AIM:To investigate the effect of quercetin supplementation on the myenteric neurons and glia in the cecum of diabetic ***:Total preparations of the muscular tunic were prepared from the ceca of twenty-four rats divided into the following groups:control(C),control supplemented with quercetin(200 mg/kg quercetin body weight)(CQ),diabetic(D)and diabetic supplemented with quercetin(DQ).Immunohistochemical double staining technique was performed with HuC/D(general population)/nitric oxide synthase(nNOS),HuC-D/S-100and *** analysis of the general neuronal population HuC/D-IR,the nNOS-IR(nitrergic subpopulation)and the enteric glial cells(S-100)was performed,and the morphometry and the reduction in varicosity population(VIP-IR)in these populations were ***:Diabetes promoted a significant reduction(25%)in the neuronal density of the HuC/D-IR(general population)and the nNOS-IR(nitrergic subpopulation)compared with the C *** also significantly increased the areas of neurons,glial cells and VIP-IR *** with quercetin in the DQ group prevented neuronal loss in the general population and increased its area(P<0.001)and the area of nitrergic subpopulation(P<0.001),when compared to C *** induced a VIP-IR and glial cells areas(P<0.001)in DQ group when compared to C,CQ and D ***:In diabetes,quercetin exhibited a neuroprotective effect by maintaining the density of the general neuronal population but did not affect the density of the nNOS subpopulation.

Reserpine-Induced Progressive Parkinsonism in Mice Predisposed and Non-Predisposed to Depressive-Like Behavior

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive degenerative condition that mainly affects the elderly. The disease comprises motor symptoms such as tremors at rest, loss of voluntary movement, decreased muscle strength, propensity to lean forward and acceleration of the walking pace. These signs are related to the degeneration of the nigrostriatal dopaminergic pathway. Patients also have non-motor symptoms, among which sleep alterations, cognitive deficits, fatigue, pain and depression stand out. Although depression has been described as the most prevalent non-motor symptom, it is not clear whether this mood disorder is due to PD or patients would already have a greater predisposition. The present study evaluated the relationship between the predisposition to depressive-like behavior and the development of motor alterations in a progressive pharmacological model of PD in mice. Mice were classified into groups of depressive-like propensities and submitted to the pharmacological model. Reserpine was administrated at 0.1 mg/kg on alternate days for 40 days. The catalepsy and oral movement tests were used to evaluate motor alterations, the sucrose preference test was used to evaluate anhedonia, and the open field test was applied to evaluate general activity. Reserpine promoted parkinsonian motor impairments, and there were no differences between animals from different depressive-like behavior profiles. Thus, it was not possible to find a relationship between parkinsonism and the propensity to depression based on the basal sucrose preference test. More studies with other evaluations of depressive-like behavior are needed to confirm the results found in our study.

Novel Air Purification System for Installation in Air Handling Units： Development, Assembly and Experimental Analysis

Nowadays, people pass 90% of their time in closed spaces, therefore, an increasing care in the creation and upkeep of healthier environments as a personal and as professional level become a major issue. The present project has as goal the verification and optimization of the implicit need of an OCRAMclima~ AHU （air handling units） in IAQ （indoor air quality） and its effectiveness in treatment and/or air purification, having as basis the legal national and European requirements for IAQ. This work was based on the study of the state of the art of the techniques in air purification and in the evaluation of their performance, culminating in the production of the prototype OCRAMclima~ NPS （nano purifying system）. The purifying phenomena involved are UVGI （ultraviolet germicidal irradiation） and catalytic ionization of air. The performance test was accomplished in a closed loop circuit, which results, obtained by an independent IAQ analyst, were satisfactory, indicating the viability of application of this system to indoor air disinfection. The outcome revealed that the conjugating of both phenomena, the air sterilizing by UV and catalytic ionization, is efficient when used for air purification, mainly for volatile organic compounds and bioaerosols.
