In vitro antioxidant assessment and a rapid HPTLC bioautographic method for the detection of anticholinesterase inhibitory activity of Geophila repens

OBJECTIVE： Geophila repens （L.） I. M. Johnst. （Rubiaceae）, a small, creeping, perennial herb, is claimed to have memory-enhancing property. The goal of this study was to assess its antioxidant and anticholinesterase activity and conduct a rapid bioautographic enzyme assay for screening acetylcholinesterase （ACHE） and butyrylcholinesterase （BChE） inhibition of G. repens extracts. METHODS： Antioxidant activity of G. repens extracts was assessed by performing 1,1-diphenyl-2- picrylhydrazyl （DPPH）, nitric oxide （NO）, superoxide （SOD）, hydroxyl （OH） and total antioxidant capacity （TAC） assays. Anticholinesterase activity was investigated by quantifying the AChE and BChE inhibitory activities of chloroform （CGR）, ethyl acetate （EGR） and methanol （MGR） extract fractions from G. repens leaves. A rapid high-performance thin-layer chromatography （HPTLC） bioautographic method for the detection of AChE and BChE inhibition was performed. RESULTS： Among all extract fractions, EGR exhibited the highest half maximal inhibitory concentration （IC50） in DPPH, SOD, NO, OH and TAC assays, with IC50 of （38.33 ± 3.21）, （45.14 ±1.78）, （59.81± 1.32）, （39.45 ± 0.79） and （43.76 ± 0.81 ） μg/mL respectively. EGR displayed competitive, reversible inhibition of AChE and BChE activities with IC50 of （68.63±0.45） and （59.45 ±0.45）μg/mL, respectively. Total phenolic and flavonoids contents of EGR were found to be 360.42 mg gallic acid equivalents and 257.31 mg quercetin equivalents per gram of extract. Phytoconstituents of the EGR extract that were inhibitors of cholinesterase produced white spots on the yellow background of HPTLC plates in the bioautographic test. CONCLUSION： The results of this study revealed that phenols and flavonoids could be responsible for the antioxidant, anticholinesterase activities of G. repens.

Study of damage behavior and repair effectiveness of patch repaired carbon fiber laminate under quasi-static indentation loading

Damage caused due to low-velocity impacts in composites leads to substantial deterioration in their residual strength and eventually provokes structural failure.This work presents an experimental investigation on the effects of different patch and parent laminate stacking sequences on the enhancement of impact strength of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers(CFRP)composites by utilising the adhesively bonded external patch repair technique.Damage evolution study is also performed with the aid of Acoustic Emission(AE).Two different quasi-isotropic configurations were selected for the parent laminate,viz.,[45°/45°/0°/0°]s and[45°/0°/45°/0°]s.Quasi Static Indentation(QSI)test was performed on both the pristine laminates,and damage areas were detected by using the C-scan inspection technique.Damaged laminates were repaired by using a single-sided patch of two different configurations,viz.,[45°/45°/45°/45°]and[45°/0°/0°/45°],and employing a circular plug to fill the damaged hole.Four different combinations of repaired laminates with two configurations of each parent and patch laminate were produced,which were further subjected to the QSI test.The results reveal the effectiveness of the repair method,as all the repaired laminates show higher impact resistance compared to the respective pristine laminates.Patches of[45°/0°/0°/45°]configuration when repaired by taking[45°/45°/0°/0°]s and[45°/0°/45°/0°]s as parents exhibited 68%and 73%higher peak loads,respectively,than the respective pristine laminates.Furthermore,parent and patch of configuration[45°/0°/45°/0°]s and[45°/0°/0°/45°],respectively,attain the highest peak load,whereas[45°/45°/0°/0°]s and[45°/45°/45°/45°]combinations possess the most gradual decrease in the load.

The present study deals with the Early Permian floral diversity,palaeoenvironment,palaeoclimate and depositional setting using a multiproxy approach that includes morphotaxonomy,palynology,and organic geochemistry of Karo OCM （Open Cast Mine）,East Bokaro Coalfield,Damodar Gondwana Basin,India.The Permian sediments of Peninsular India are widely regarded as fluvial,along with some marine incursions.The macroplant fossil assemblage exhibits the presence of Glossopteridales,comprising Glossopteris,Gangamopteris,and Vertebraria,as well as Coniferales,which includes Noeggerathiopsis.The palynological assemblage encompasses the dominance of the striate bisaccate pollen Faunipollenites sp.and the subdominance of the non-striate bisaccate pollen Scheuringipollenites sp.with glossopterid affinities.The megafloral and palynofloral assemblage confirms the biostratigraphical age to be Late Barakar palynoflora of Kungurian affinity.The studied morphological characteristics,including small to large Glossopteris leaves exhibiting a lanceolate shape,acute apices,and acute cuneate or tapering bases,as well as entire margins with narrower lamina and narrow meshes,suggest the existence of a dense forest with the prevalence of a warm and humid climate during their deposition.The organic geochemical characterization based on functional group and biomarker analyses reveals the diagenetic effects on organic matter.Aliphatic symmetric(～2865-2855 cm-1) and asymmetric stretching (～2930-2910 cm-1) peaks are identifiable in coal samples,whereas they are absent in carbonaceous shale.The A-factor vs.C-factor plot suggests that the kerogen type is type Ⅲ,which can generate mainly gaseous kerogen.The vitrinite reflectance studies （Rrav.1.1%） show increased maturity of the samples,which is supported by the n-alkane distribution pattern and the absence of hopane terpenoids.The Indian floral assemblages in contemporary of southern Gondwana continents reveal a stronger inclination/affinity with the flora of Africa than that of South America,thereby

Physico-chemical properties of wild edible fruit Meyna laxifora Robyns(Alu):production of Alu fruit powder by using drying aid

The study focuses on the physico-chemical characteritics of the wild fruit Meyna laxiflora Robyns(Alu)and fruit powder,which was gathered from the Konkan region of Maharashtra Alu fruit powder is made by using a drying aid called maltodextrin(MD).Powder samples(MP1,MP2,MP3,MP4 and MP5)were made using different amounts of MD(05,10,15,2.0 and 2.5 g).Preliminary phytochemical screening of fnuit pulp and powder showed the presence of some phytoconstituents such as reducing sugar,saponin,flavonoids,and terpenoids,whereas akaloids,tannins,steroids and protein were absent in both.The parameters of the powder are durectly infuenced by the amount of MD,as evidenced by the variations in bulk density,total soluble solids,pH,specific gravity and the proximate among the powder samples.High solubility was found in the sample with a medium of MD.The highest of particle distribution was found in MD-added samples MP2(1 g),MP3(1.5 g),MP4(2 g)whereas the raw(MPO)showed the 1least.Sensory analysis was done using 9-point hedonic scale,which revealed that MP2,MP3,and MP4 were highly acceptable.This study assumed that fresh Alu fuit,palp and in the form of powder can be useful for the development of new products.

Performance Analysis of 5 G Wireless Hybrid Precoding Using Evolutionary Algorithms

Emerging 5G communication solutions utilize the millimeter wave(mmWave)band to alleviate the spectrum deficit.In the mmWave range,Multiple Input Multiple Output(MIMO)technologies support a large number of simultaneous users.In mmWave MIMO wireless systems,hybrid analog/digital precoding topologies provide a reduced complexity substitute for digital precoding.Bit Error Rate(BER)and Spectral efficiency performances can be improved by hybrid Minimum Mean Square Error(MMSE)precoding,but the computation involves matrix inversion process.The number of antennas at the broadcasting and receiving ends is quite large for mm-wave MIMO systems,thus computing the inverse of a matrix of such high dimension may not be practically feasible.Due to the need for matrix inversion and known candidate matrices,the classic Orthogonal Matching Pursuit(OMP)approach will be more complicated.The novelty of research presented in this manuscript is to create a hybrid precoder for mmWave communication systems using metaheuristic algorithms that do not require matrix inversion processing.The metaheuristic approach has not employed much in the formulation of a precoder in wireless systems.Five distinct evolutionary algorithms,such as Harris–Hawks Optimization(HHO),Runge–Kutta Optimization(RUN),Slime Mould Algorithm(SMA),Hunger Game Search(HGS)Algorithm and Aquila Optimizer(AO)are considered to design optimal hybrid precoder for downlink transmission and their performances are tested under similar practical conditions.According to simulation studies,the RUN-based precoder performs better than the conventional algorithms and other nature-inspired algorithms based precoding in terms of spectral efficiency and BER.

A Hybrid Moth Flame Optimization Algorithm for Global Optimization

The Moth Flame Optimization(MFO)algorithm shows decent performance results compared to other meta-heuristic algorithms for tackling non-linear constrained global optimization problems.However,it still suffers from obtaining quality solution and slow convergence speed.On the other hand,the Butterfly Optimization Algorithm(BOA)is a comparatively new algorithm which is gaining its popularity due to its simplicity,but it also suffers from poor exploitation ability.In this study,a novel hybrid algorithm,h-MFOBOA,is introduced,which integrates BOA with the MFO algorithm to overcome the shortcomings of both the algorithms and at the same time inherit their advantages.For performance evaluation,the proposed h-MFOBOA algorithm is applied on 23 classical benchmark functions with varied complexity.The tested results of the proposed algorithm are compared with some well-known traditional meta-heuristic algorithms as well as MFO variants.Friedman rank test and Wilcoxon signed rank test are employed to measure the performance of the newly introduced algorithm statistically.The computational complexity has been measured.Moreover,the proposed algorithm has been applied to solve one constrained and one unconstrained real-life problems to examine its problem-solving capability of both type of problems.The comparison results of benchmark functions,statistical analysis,real-world problems confirm that the proposed h-MFOBOA algorithm provides superior results compared to the other conventional optimization algorithms.

Comparative Performance Analysis of Differential Evolution Variants on Engineering Design Problems

Because of their superior problem-solving ability,nature-inspired optimization algorithms are being regularly used in solving complex real-world optimization problems.Engineering academics have recently focused on meta-heuristic algorithms to solve various optimization challenges.Among the state-of-the-art algorithms,Differential Evolution(DE)is one of the most successful algorithms and is frequently used to solve various industrial problems.Over the previous 2 decades,DE has been heavily modified to improve its capabilities.Several DE variations secured positions in IEEE CEC competitions,establishing their efficacy.However,to our knowledge,there has never been a comparison of performance across various CEC-winning DE versions,which could aid in determining which is the most successful.In this study,the performance of DE and its eight other IEEE CEC competition-winning variants are compared.First,the algorithms have evaluated IEEE CEC 2019 and 2020 bound-constrained functions,and the performances have been compared.One unconstrained problem from IEEE CEC 2011 problem suite and five other constrained mechanical engineering design problems,out of which four issues have been taken from IEEE CEC 2020 non-convex constrained optimization suite,have been solved to compare the performances.Statistical analyses like Friedman's test and Wilcoxon's test are executed to verify the algorithm’s ability statistically.Performance analysis exposes that none of the DE variants can solve all the problems efficiently.Performance of SHADE and ELSHADE-SPACMA are considerable among the methods used for comparison to solve such mechanical design problems.

A Novel Variant of Moth Flame Optimizer for Higher Dimensional Optimization Problems

Moth Flame Optimization(MFO)is a nature-inspired optimization algorithm,based on the principle of navigation technique of moth toward moon.Due to less parameter and easy implementation,MFO is used in various field to solve optimization problems.Further,for the complex higher dimensional problems,MFO is unable to make a good trade-off between global and local search.To overcome these drawbacks of MFO,in this work,an enhanced MFO,namely WF-MFO,is introduced to solve higher dimensional optimization problems.For a more optimal balance between global and local search,the original MFO’s exploration ability is improved by an exploration operator,namely,Weibull flight distribution.In addition,the local optimal solutions have been avoided and the convergence speed has been increased using a Fibonacci search process-based technique that improves the quality of the solutions found.Twenty-nine benchmark functions of varying complexity with 1000 and 2000 dimensions have been utilized to verify the projected WF-MFO.Numerous popular algorithms and MFO versions have been compared to the achieved results.In addition,the robustness of the proposed WF-MFO method has been evaluated using the Friedman rank test,the Wilcoxon rank test,and convergence analysis.Compared to other methods,the proposed WF-MFO algorithm provides higher quality solutions and converges more quickly,as shown by the experiments.Furthermore,the proposed WF-MFO has been used to the solution of two engineering design issues,with striking success.The improved performance of the proposed WF-MFO algorithm for addressing larger dimensional optimization problems is guaranteed by analyses of numerical data,statistical tests,and convergence performance.

A review on the current research on microwave processing techniques applied to graphene-based supercapacitor electrodes:An emerging approach beyond conventional heating

The various methods for microwave processing of materials exhibit numerous advantages,such as short processing times,high yield,expanded reaction conditions,high reproducibility,and high purity of products.Microwave-assisted synthesis strategies have been widely adopted for the preparation of highperformance graphene-based materials for supercapacitor electrodes.Metal oxides,mixed metal oxides,metal hydroxides,layered double hydroxides,carbon nanotubes and conducting polymers are some of the main materials which have been added to graphene derivatives for advanced composite/hybrid electrodes.This review article first provides a brief introduction and an overview of microwave heating and its advantages for processing graphene-based electrode materials.After that,a systematic survey of recently published research on microwave irradiation-assisted processing is presented,focusing on:(i)transformation of graphite/graphite oxide into graphene/graphene oxide by exfoliation and reduction;(ii)formation of graphene derivatives in various liquid and gaseous media;(iii)modification of graphene derivatives with various metal oxides/hydroxides,carbon nanotubes,and conducting polymers for use in supercapacitors.Major challenges and future perspectives for microwave-assisted processing of graphene-based materials for cutting-edge supercapacitor electrode applications are also summarized in the conclusion.

mLBOA:A Modified Butterfly Optimization Algorithm with Lagrange Interpolation for Global Optimization

Though the Butterfly Bptimization Algorithm(BOA)has already proved its effectiveness as a robust optimization algorithm,it has certain disadvantages.So,a new variant of BOA,namely mLBOA,is proposed here to improve its performance.The proposed algorithm employs a self-adaptive parameter setting,Lagrange interpolation formula,and a new local search strategy embedded with Levy flight search to enhance its searching ability to make a better trade-off between exploration and exploitation.Also,the fragrance generation scheme of BOA is modified,which leads for exploring the domain effectively for better searching.To evaluate the performance,it has been applied to solve the IEEE CEC 2017 benchmark suite.The results have been compared to that of six state-of-the-art algorithms and five BOA variants.Moreover,various statistical tests,such as the Friedman rank test,Wilcoxon rank test,convergence analysis,and complexity analysis,have been conducted to justify the rank,significance,and complexity of the proposed mLBOA.Finally,the mLBOA has been applied to solve three real-world engineering design problems.From all the analyses,it has been found that the proposed mLBOA is a competitive algorithm compared to other popular state-of-the-art algorithms and BOA variants.
