Modeling and optimization of non-isothermal convective drying process of Lavandula×allardii

Non-isothermal convective drying schemes were examined for Lavandula×allardii leaves and *** process parameters were optimized using response surface methodology(RSM)to ensure the peak operational *** effects of temperature increase rate(2–4°C/h)and the airflow velocity(1–3 m/s)on the essential oil yield,drying duration and consumption,were investigated.A face-centered central composite design was deployed and the experimental data was adapted to the most suitable polynomial models,as determined by the regression *** of variance was applied to assess the effects of the process variables,their interactions and the statistical significance of the examined *** factors of temperature increase rate and airflow velocity had a significant impact on the drying *** velocity had a greater effect on leaves’essential oil yield and inflorescences’process energy consumption,whereas the rates of temperature increase had a greater influence on the inflorescences’essential oil yield and leaves’energy *** minimum drying duration and energy consumption were obtained for the maximum temperature increasing rate at 3 and 1 m/s airflow velocities respectively;and the highest essential oil yield was obtained for the least rate of temperature increase and airflow velocity for both leaves and *** optimization was performed for minimizing drying duration and energy consumption by maximizing the essential oil *** rate of temperature increases of 4°C/h and the airflow velocity of 1 m/s,were proposed as the optimum non-isothermal drying conditions for both leaves and inflorescences of Lavandula×*** values of essential oil content have been 1.387/3.05 mL/g,4.21/4.18 h drying time and 0.809/0.732 kWh energy consumption at the optimum operation point for leaves and inflorescences,*** resulted optimized non-stationary temperature scheme considerably improved the drying

Introduction and Objectives: Since its advent in 2019, Corona Virus Disease 19 (Covid-19) has changed everyday life in many unprecedented ways. With the availability of Covid-19 vaccines, clinical practice has stepped gradually towards its everyday routine. The clinician, however, needs to address such concerns as “Can Covid-19 present with urinary tract symptoms predominantly?”, “Can the urinary tract develop long-term Covid-19 symptoms?”, “Can Covid-19 vaccines/drug therapy cause male infertility?” Methods: This mini-review of the current literature has been carried out by searching the Pubmed database. Results and Conclusions: Our literature review suggests that there is insufficient evidence to conclude a significant impact on the urinary tract from Covid-19 infection. There is supporting evidence that mRNA anti-SARS-CoV-2 vaccines are safe for male gonads. Research to further support these conclusions is required.

A novel framework to intercept GPS-denied,bomb-carrying,nonmilitary,kamikaze drones:Towards protecting critical infrastructures

Protection of urban critical infrastructures(CIs)from GPS-denied,bomb-carrying kamikaze drones(G-BKDs)is very *** approaches based on drone jamming,spoofing,communication interruption and hijacking cannot be applied in the case under examination,since G-B-KDs are *** the other hand,drone capturing schemes and electromagnetic pulse(EMP)weapons seem to be ***,again,existing approaches present various limitations,while most of them do not examine the case of *** paper,focuses on the aforementioned under-researched field,where the G-B-KD is confronted by two defensive *** first neutralizes and captures the kamikaze drone,while the second captures the *** defensive drones are equipped with a net-gun and an innovative algorithm,which,among others,estimates the locations of interception,using a real-world trajectory ***,one of the defensive drones is also equipped with an EMP weapon to damage the electronics equipment of the kamikaze drone and reduce the capturing time and the overall *** simulated experiments and comparisons to state-of-art methods,reveal the advantages and limitations of the proposed *** specifically,compared to state-of-art,the proposed approach improves:(a)time to neutralize the target by at least 6.89%,(b)maximum number of missions by at least 1.27%and(c)total cost by at least 5.15%.

Height-diameter models for King Boris fir(Abies borisii regis Mattf.) and Scots pine(Pinus sylvestris L.) in Olympus and Pieria Mountains, Greece

In forest science and practice, the total tree height is one of the basic morphometric attributes at the tree level and it has been closely linked with important stand attributes. In the current research, sixteen nonlinear functions for height prediction were tested in terms of their fitting ability against samples of Abies borisii regis and Pinus sylvestris trees from mountainous forests in central Greece. The fitting procedure was based on generalized nonlinear weighted regression. At the final stage, a five-quantile nonlinear height-diameter model was developed for both species through a quantile regression approach, to estimate the entire conditional distribution of tree height, enabling the evaluation of the diameter impact at various quantiles and providing a comprehensive understanding of the proposed relationship across the distribution. The results clearly showed that employing the diameter as the sole independent variable, the 3-parameter Hossfeld function and the 2-parameter N?slund function managed to explain approximately 84.0% and 81.7% of the total height variance in the case of King Boris fir and Scots pine species, respectively. Furthermore, the models exhibited low levels of error in both cases(2.310m for the fir and 3.004m for the pine), yielding unbiased predictions for both fir(-0.002m) and pine(-0.004m). Notably, all the required assumptions for homogeneity and normality of the associated residuals were achieved through the weighting procedure, while the quantile regression approach provided additional insights into the height-diameter allometry of the specific species. The proposed models can turn into valuable tools for operational forest management planning, particularly for wood production and conservation of mountainous forest ecosystems.

Comparison of Spatial Interpolation Methods of Precipitation Data in Central Macedonia, Greece

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the spatial interpolation of rainfall variability with deterministic and geostatic inspections in the Prefecture of Kilkis (Greece). The precipitation data where recorded from 12 meteorological stations in the Prefecture of Kilkis for 36 hydrological years (1973-2008). The cumulative monthly values of rainfall were studied on an annual and seasonal basis as well as during the arid-dry season. In the deterministic tests, the I.D.W. and R.B.F. checks were inspected, while in the geostatic tests, Ordinary Kriging and Universal Kriging respectively. The selection of the optimum method was made based on the least Root Mean Square Error (R.M.S.E.), as well as on the Mean Error (M.E.), as assessed by the cross validation analysis. The geostatical Kriging also considered the impact of isotropy and anisotropy across all time periods of data collection. Moreover, for Universal Kriging, the study explored spherical, exponential and Gaussian models in various combinations. Geostatistical techniques consistently demonstrated greater reliability than deterministic techniques across all time periods of data collection. Specifically, during the annual period, anisotropy was the prevailing characteristic in geostatistical techniques. Moreover, the results for the irrigation and seasonal periods were generally comparable, with few exceptions where isotropic methods yielded lower (R.M.S.E.) in some seasonal observations.

Understanding the Theory of Karp, Miller and Winograd

The objective of this tutorial is to present the fundamental theory of Karp, Miller and Winograd, whose seminal paper laid the foundations regarding the systematic description of the organization of computations in systems of uniform recurrent equations by means of graph structures, via the definition of computability conditions and techniques for the construction of one-dimensional and multi-dimensional scheduling functions. Besides the description of this theory, the paper presents improvements and revisions made by other authors and furthermore, points out the differences regarding the conditions of causality and dependency between the general case of systems of recurrent equations and the special case of multiple nested loops.

Dear Editor,We present a rare case of a primary penile follicular center non-Hodgkin lymphoma and a review of the available literature on this condition.A BCL2 gene transposition which was identified with fluorescent in situ hybridization(FISH)molecular analysis is a unique manifestation not previously reported to the best of our knowledge.A 67-year-old man presented with a 3-month history of a small nodule on the left side of the corona of glans *** patient had no significant medical or family *** patient underwent excision and biopsy of the penile lesion with a 0.5 cm macroscopic margin under local anesthesia and *** was discharged on the day of surgery,and there were no postoperative complications or adverse *** informed consent was obtained from thepatient.
