Treatable causes of fever among children under five years in a seasonal malaria transmission area in Burkina Faso

Background:Fever remains a major public health *** Burkina Faso,more than half of febrile children are considered not to be infected by *** study prospectively assessed probable(treatable)causes of fever in Burkinabe ***:A prospective study was conducted among febrile children(≥37.5°C)under 5 years of age presenting at four health facilities and one referral hospital in rural Burkina *** each participant,blood was collected for malaria microscopy and culture,urine for dipstick testing and culturing if tested positive for leucocytes and nitrite,stool for rotavirus/adenovirus testing,culture and parasitology,and a nasopharyngeal swab for ***:In total 684 febrile children were included in the *** falciparum malaria was found in 49.7%(340/684)of the participants and non-malaria infections in 49.1%(336/684)of *** non-nalaria infections included gastro-intestinal infections(37.0%),common bacterial pathogens of nasopharynx(24.3%),bacterial bloodstream infections(6.0%)and urinary tract infections(1.8%).Nearly 45%(154/340)of the malaria infected children were co-infected with non-nalaria infections,but only 3.2%(11/340)of these co-infections could be considered as a possible alternative cause of *** contrast,in the malaria microscopy negative children 18.0%(62/344)of the infections could be the probable cause of the *** were not isolated from 23.7%(162/684)of the febrile ***:malaria remains the most common pathogen found in febrile children in Burkina ***,a relative high number of febrile children had non-malaria *** correct diagnosis of these non-malaria fevers is a major concern,and there is an urgent need to develop more point-of-care diagnostic tests and capacities to identify and treat the causes of these fevers.

As the role of missions and experiments carried out in outer space becomes more and more essential in our understanding of many earthly problems,such as resource management,environmental problems,and disaster management,as well as space science questions,thanks to their lower cost and faster development process CubeSats can benefit humanity and therefore,young scientists and engineers have been motivated to research and develop new CubeSat *** very long after their inception,CubeSats have evolved to become accepted platforms for scientific and commercial *** last couple of years showed that they are a feasible tool for conducting scientific experiments,not only in the Earth orbit but also in the interplanetary *** many countries,a CubeSat mission could prompt the community and young teams around the world to build the national capacity to launch and operate national space *** paper presents an overview of the key scientific and engineering gateways opened up to the younger scientific community by the advent and adaptation of new technology into CubeSat *** role of cooperation and the opportunities for capacity-building and education are also ***,the present article also aims to provide useful recommendations to scientists,early-career researchers,engineers,students,and anyone who intends to explore the potential and opportunities offered by CubeSats and CubeSats-based missions.

Renewable energy exploitation is among the development strategies set by the government of Rwanda on the roadmap to 2023/2024 universal electricity access and theUnitedNations plans by *** previous studies oncleanenergy technologies inRwandahavemostly focusedonhouseholds’usagebut there are currentlynostudies describing the feasibility of clean energy technologies for financial *** skepticism on renewable energy in Africa was previously reported by some *** realized that most SACCOs(Savings and Credit Co-Operatives)in Rwanda use diesel technology for backup/emergency electricity supply,taking consideration of abundant solar resources in Rwanda,having seen the viability and feasibility studies from other countries of renewable energy for different institutions(financial included);thiswork uses theHOmEREnergy Software and the electricity load profile of a typical SACCO in Rwanda to analyse the affordability and viability of on-site renewable energy generation for SACCO in *** results reveal that a solar PV systemwith storage can be the optimal solution(with levelized cost of electricity(LCOE)of 0.713$/kWh which is cheaper than 0.73$/kWh for diesel technology)for SACCOs located in both off-grid areas and grid-connected areas(with 0.041$/kWh LCOE which is lower than the current electricity tariff in Rwanda).The findings in this work can serve as basic tools/materials for policy drafters in Rwanda on how financial institutions can contribute to climate change mitigation through self-renewable energy exploitation.

Applying a mathematical model to the Performance of a Female monofin Swimmer

This study sought to determine the best method to quantify training based on heart rate data. It proposes a modification of Banister’s original performance model to improve the accuracy of predicted performance. The new formulation introduces a variable that accounts for changes in the subject’s initial performance as a result of the quantity of training. The two systems models were applied to a well-trained female monofin swimmer over a 24-week training period. Each model comprised a set of parameters unique to the individual and was estimated by fitting model-predicted performance to measured performance. We used the Alienor method associated to Optimization-Preserving Operators to identify these parameters. The quantification method based on training intensity zones gave a better estimation of predicted performance in both models. Using the new model in sports in which performance is generally predicted (running, swimming) will help us to define its real interest.

The current study deals with exact soliton solutions for Schrödinger-Hirota(SH)equation via two modi-fied integration *** methods are known as the improved(G/G)-expansion method and the Kudryashov *** model is a generalized version of the nonlinear Schrödinger(NLS)equation with higher order dispersion and cubic *** can be considered as a more accurate approximation than the NLS equation in explaining wave propagation in the ocean and optical fibers.A novel deriva-tive operator named as the conformable truncated m-fractional is used to study the above mentioned *** obtained results can be used in describing the Schrödinger-Hirota equation in some better *** the obtained results are verified through symbolic computational ***,the ob-tained results show that the suggested approaches have broaden capacity to secure some new soliton type solutions for the fractional differential equations in an effective *** the end,the results are also explained through their graphical representations.

In the present investigation, we consider two new general subclasses B∑m（T, λ; α）and B^∑m （τ λ;β） of Em consisting of analytic and m-fold symmetric bi-univalent functions in the open unit disk U. For functions belonging to the two classes introduced here, we derive non-sharp estimates on the initial coefficients [a-~＋ll and │a2＋1│. Several connections to some of the earlier known results are also pointed out.

Over the past years, natural products have been used as useful candidates for prevention and treatment of skin disorders such as skin darkening. In this current research, Daniellia oliveri which was a potential source of cosmeceutical agent was selected to investigate its active components. Daniellic acid isolated from the oleoresin was characterized by using data from 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, HSQC, IR, and online chemo-informatic analysis. The daniellic acid antioxidant, anti-proliferative, and tyrosinase inhibition capabilities were evaluated. This compound possessed an anti-DPPH and iron (III) reducing effect compared to quercetin. It was able to inhibit 9 tumor cells with IC50 going from 0.03 mM (U373) to 0.14 mM (Malme-3M). Interestingly daniellic acid inhibits tyrosinase activity with 1.20 mM as IC50. The tyrosinase inhibition mechanism was noncompetitive mixed-type with un-significant effect on cell melanogenesis. Effect of substitution group on dielectric properties of 4H-pyrano [3,2-c] quinoline derivatives thin films

The AC electrical conductivity and dielectrical properties of 2-amino-6-ethyl-5-oxo-4-（3-phenoxyphenyl）-5,6-dihydro-4H-pyrano[3, 2-c]quinoline-3-carbonitrile（Ph-HPQ） and 2-amino-4-（2-chlorophenyl）-6-ethyl-5-oxo-5,6-dihydro-4H-pyrano [3, 2-c] quinoline-3-carbonitrile（Ch-HPQ） thin films were determined in the frequency range of 0.5 k Hz–5 mHz and the temperature range of 290–443 K. The AC electrical conduction of both compounds in thin film form is governed by the correlated barrier hopping（CBH） mechanism. some parameters such as the barrier height, the maximum barrier height, the density of charges, and the hopping distance were determined as functions of temperature and frequency. The phenoxyphenyl group has a greater influence on those parameters than the chlorophenyl group. The AC activation energies were determined at different frequencies and temperatures. The dielectric behaviors of Ph-HPQ and Ch-HPQ were investigated using the impedance spectroscopy technique. The impedance data are presented in Nyquist diagrams for different temperatures. The Ch-HPQ films have higher impedance than the Ph-HPQ films. The real dielectric constant and dielectric loss show a remarkable dependence on the frequency and temperature. The Ph-HPQ has higher dielectric constants than the Ch-HPQ.

Nuclear radiation shielding effectiveness and corrosion behavior of some steel alloys for nuclear reactor systems

Different types of nuclear parameters and corrosion behavior were deduced for carbon steel(AISI 1018),austenitic(304 SS),and duplex(2507 SS)stainless steel *** types of neutron energies as well as nine gamma ray energy lines(121.78-1407.92 keV)were used to evaluate the macroscopic neutron cross-sections(∑,cm^-1)and mass attenuation coefficients[σ,cm^2·g^-1)of gamma ray *** corrosion behavior was investigated using different electrochemical *** results showed that the stainless-steel alloys had a good attitude than that of carbon steel alloy for neutron and gamma ray parameters,especially the duplex stainless *** calculated values of mass attenuation coefficient using WinXcom computer program(Version 3.1),exhibited a very good agreement with the experimental values of that ***,the results indicated that duplex stainless-steel exhibited corrosion resistance higher than 304 SS and AISI 1018 steel alloys.
