Electrical demand aggregation effects on the performance of deep learning-based short-term load forecasting of a residential building

Modern power grids face the challenge of increasing renewable energy penetration that is stochastic in nature and calls for accurate demand predictions to provide the optimized power ***,increasing the self-consumption of renewable energy through demand response in households,local communities,and micro-grids is essential and calls for high demand prediction performance at lower levels of demand aggregations to achieve optimal *** many of the recent studies have investigated both macro and micro scale short-term load forecasting(STLF),a comprehensive investigation on the effects of electrical demand aggregation size on STLF is minimal,especially with large sample sizes,where it is essential for optimal sizing of residential micro-grids,demand response markets,and virtual power ***,this study comprehensively investigates STLF of five aggregation levels(3,10,30,100,and 479)based on a dataset of 479 residential dwellings in Osaka,Japan,with a sample size of(159,47,15,4,and 1)per level,respectively,and investigates the underlying challenges in lower aggregation *** deep learning(DL)methods are utilized for STLF and fine-tuned with extensive methodological sensitivity analysis and a variation of early stopping,where a detailed comparative analysis is *** test results reveal that a MAPE of(2.47-3.31%)close to country levels can be achieved on the highest aggregation,and below 10%can be sustained at 30 aggregated ***,the deep neural network(DNN)achieved the highest performance,followed by the Bi-directional Gated recurrent unit with fully connected layers(Bi-GRU-FCL),which had close to 15%faster training time and 40%fewer learnable parameters.

Three-Dimensional Rainbow Schlieren Measurements in Underexpanded Sonic Jets from Axisymmetric Convergent Nozzles

The rainbow schlieren deflectometry has been combined with the computed tomography to obtain three-dimensional density fields of shock containing free jets and we call the method the schlieren CT. Experiments on the schlieren CT have been performed at a nozzle pressure ratio of 4.0 by using an axisymmetric convergent nozzle with an inner diameter of 10 mm at the exit where the nozzle was operated at an underexpanded condition. Multidirectional rainbow schlieren pictures of an underexpanded sonic jet can be acquired by rotating the nozzle about its longitudinal axis in equal angular intervals and the three-dimensional density fields are reconstructed by the schlieren CT. The validity of the schlieren CT is verified by a comparison with the density fields reconstructed by the Abel inversion method. As a result, it is found that excellent quantitative agreement is reached between the three-dimensional jet density fields reconstructed from both methods.

The availability of the building’s operation data and occupancy information has been crucial to support the evaluation of existing models and development of new data-driven *** paper describes a comprehensive dataset consisting of indoor environmental conditions,Wi-Fi connected devices,energy consumption of end uses(i.e.,HVAC,lighting,plug loads and fans),HVAC operations,and outdoor weather conditions collected through various heterogeneous sensors together with the ground truth occupant presence and count information for five rooms located in a university *** five rooms include two different-sized lecture rooms,an office space for administrative staff,an office space for researchers,and a library space accessible to all students.A total of 181 days of data was collected from all five rooms at a sampling resolution of 5 *** dataset can be used for benchmarking and supporting data-driven approaches in the field of occupancy prediction and occupant behaviour modelling,building simulation and control,energy forecasting and various building analytics.

High-density integration technologies with copper(Cu)through-silicon via(TSV)have emerged as viable alternatives for achieving the requisite integration densities for the portable electronics and micro-electro-mechanical systems(MEMSs)***,significant thermo-mechanical stresses can be introduced in integrated structures during the manufacturing process due to mismatches of thermal expansion and the mechanical properties between Cu and silicon(Si).The high-density integration demands an interconnection material with a strong mechanical strength and small thermal expansion *** this study,a novel electroplating method is developed for the synthesis of a graphene-copper(G-Cu)composite with electrochemically exfoliated *** fabrication and evaluation of the G-Cu composite microstructures,including the microcantilevers and micromirrors supported by the composite,are *** evaluated not only the micromechanical properties of the G-Cu composite based on in-situ mechanical resonant frequency measurements using a laser Doppler vibrometer but also the coefficients of thermal expansion(CTE)of the composite based on curvature radius measurements at a temperature range of 20–200℃.The Young’s modulus and shear modulus of the composite are approximately 123 and 51 GPa,which are 1.25 times greater and 1.22 times greater,respectively,than those of pure Cu due to the reinforcement of *** G-Cu composite exhibits a 23%lower CTE than Cu without sacrificing electrical *** results show that the mechanically strengthened G-Cu composite with reduced thermal expansion is an ideal and reliable interconnection material instead of Cu for complex integration structures.
