Changes in corneal biomechanics and intraocular pressure following Femto-LASIK using Goldman applanation tonometry and ocular response analyzer

AIM:To compare intraocular pressure(IOP)measurements before and after laser in situ keratomileusis(LASIK)with a femtosecond laser for flap creation using ocular response analyzer(ORA)and Goldmann applanation tonometry,and to identify factors that may influence the preoperative and postoperative ***:A prospective study conducted on myopic patients who underwent LASIK using a femtosecond laser for flap *** patients were evaluated preoperatively,6 wk and 3 mo postoperatively for manifest refraction(MR),keratometric(K)readings and central corneal thickness(CCT)using a scheimpflug-based *** resistance factor(CRF),corneal hysteresis(CH),Goldmann correlated IOP(IOPg)and corneal compensated IOP(IOPcc)were measured using ORA besides IOP assessment by Goldman applanation tonometry(GAT).ReSULTS:There was a statistically significant decrease in measures of IOPg by 3.35±0.83 mm Hg,followed by GAT which decreased by 2.2±0.44 mm Hg,and the least affected by operation was IOPcc which decreased only by 0.87±0.1 mm Hg after 6 *** 3 mo follow up there was a statistically significant decrease in IOPcc which decreased only by 0.76±0.4 mm Hg,followed by IOP GAT by 1.6±0.5 mm Hg,and the most affected by operation was IOPg which decreased by 2.3±0.3 mm ***,there was a statistically significant decrease in CH and CRF after 6 wk and 3 *** 3 mo,the preoperative MR and preoperative GAT were prominent significant predictors of the postoperative GAT *** prediction equation was ***:IOP measurements and corneal biomechanical factors reduce significantly after LASIK with a femtosecond laser for flap *** IOPcc values are less influenced by changes in corneal properties than IOPg and GAT,indicating that IOPcc may provide the most reliable measurement of IOP after this procedure.

The hepatoprotective activity of the ethanol extract of Astragalus kahiricus(Fabaceae) roots against ethanol-induced liver apoptosis was evaluated and it showed very promising hepatoprotective actions through different *** extract counteracted the ethanol-induced liver enzymes leakage and glutathione *** addition,it demonstrated anti-apoptotic effects against caspase-3 activation and DNA fragmentation that were confirmed by liver histopathological ***,the phytochemical study of this extract led to the isolation of four cycloartane-type triterpenes identified as astrasieversianin II(1),astramembrannin II(2),astrasieversianin XIV(3),and cycloastragenol(4).The structures of these isolates were established by HReSI-MS and 1D and 2D NMR *** antimicrobial,antimalarial,and cytotoxic activities of the isolates were further evaluated,but none of them showed any activity.

Ichthyofaunic Inventory and Fish Landings of Lom Pangar Hydropower Dam Reservoir in the eastern Region of Cameroon

The Lom Pangar hydroelectric dam project located in the eastern region of Cameroon was implemented by electricity Development Corporation (eDC). The impoundment of the Lom Pangar dam created a large reservoir with an area ~590 km2 and a useful storage capacity ~6 billion m3. Thereby, this impoundment has created favourable conditions for the proliferation of fishery resources. However, a fisheries assessment study based on fishing activities is essential to attain reliable information for implementing a management plan to achieve rational and sustainable exploitation. This study was carried out on the ichtyofaunic inventory and the assessment of fish landings in Lom Pangar hydroelectric dam reservoir from April 2016 to September 30, 2016. Three main groups of fishing gear have been identified, among which gillnets, traps and longlines occupy major fishing activities. Indeed, the spatial and landing sites surveies were conducted on species composition, size composition, and quantities of fish landed during the study period. Moreover, 37 species of fish divided into 16 families were found in seven different selected fish landing sites. Carp (Cyprinus carpio) was the major fish species abundantly caught by these fishing gears which accounted for 81.60% of the total catch, and the least species was sardine (Sardinella aurita). A total of 623,229 Kg of fish were landed which were dominated by those of the Wami landing site with 480,773 Kg representing 76.96% of the total landed catches. The smallest species caught was the white carp (7 cm) while the longest one was the catfish (71 cm). In addition, the species of fish in the breeding season are carp, catfish, viper fish and red tail.

effect of Milk Proteins on Physical and Chemical Characteristics of Crispy Puff Snacks

Dairy proteins included sweet whey solids (SWS), whey protein concentrate (WPC), milk protein concentrate (MPC) or sodium caseinate (SC) at level of 10% by weight were extruded with corn, rice, oat flour and other ingredients in a twin screw extruder. The functional properties and textural of crispy balls snacks (CBS) have been studied. The results showed that different protein types were significantly affected on functional and chemical properties of extrudate. The bulk density of CBS-SC was the lowest due to the highest expansion, while CBS-WPC retained the most water in the product, whereas, the maximum value of water solubility index was obtained in the CBS-CWP. Results also showed that protein digestibility value of extrudates had higher than non-extruded products. Color analysis of CBS-SC and CBS-SWS products had the highest Δe values (P ≤ 0.05), whereas CBS-SWS was statistically higher than CBS-SC in rank. Also, it was noticed that CBS-SWS had the highest value of browning index. The hardness of all extrudates products was desirable for expanded crispy where ranged from 17.3 N to 12.18 N. Generally, MPC and SC incorporated with cereal flour had acceptable quality characteristics and improved significantly the functional and texture properties of crispy balls products.

本文通过一次牛津大学考试的结果,归纳出三种对古希腊悲剧《俄狄浦斯王》的误读类型:第一,将俄狄浦斯王的悲剧归咎其个人的道德缺陷;第二,把《俄狄浦斯王》视为命运悲剧,甚至把这种观点延伸到所有古希腊悲剧;第三,《俄狄浦斯王》只是一部单纯的悲剧作品,剧作家并没有在宗教和诸神的立场上赋予任何可理解的深意。本文认为,不能采用今天的观点来分析古希腊文学,否则就无法正确理解作品,甚至产生误读。
