Adult emergence inhibition and adulticidal activities of medicinal plant extracts against Anopheles stephensi Liston

Objective:To determine the adult emergence inhibition（EI） and adulticidal activities of hexane,chloroform,ethyl acetate,and acetone leaves extracts of Anisomeles malabarica（A. malabarica）,Euphorbia hirta（E,hirta）,Ocimum basilicum（***）,Ricinus communis（R. communis）,Solanum trilobatum（***）,Tridax procumbens（***） and seeds of Gloriosa superba（***） against Anopheles stephensi（An,stephensi）.Methods:The EI and adulticidal trials were carried out according to World Health Organization（WHO） procedures with slight *** extracts were diluted in dimethyl sulphoxide in order to prepare a serial dilution of test dosages（15.625,31.25,62.5,125,250,500 and 1 000μg/mL）.Five duplicate trials were carried out for every sample concentration,and for each trial a negative control was included and the mortality was determined after 24 h of ***:The highest EI activity was found in ethyl acetate extracts of A malabarica,chloroform extracts of ***, ***,acetone of extract of ***,***,and seed extract of *** with EI50 values 143.12,119.***.157.87,139.39,111.19,and 134.85μg/mL,and the effective adulticidal activity was observed in chloroform,acetone extracts of ***,***,R. communis,*** and ethyl acetate extract of *** with LD50 values 120.17,108.77, 127.22,163.11,118.27,and 93.02μg/mL,***-square value was significant at P<0.05 ***:These results should encourage further efforts to investigate the compounds that might possess good EI and adulticidal properties when isolated in pure form.

Larvicidal and repellent activity of medicinal plant extracts from Eastern Ghats of South India against malaria and filariasis vectors

Objective:To evaluate the larvicidal and repellent activities of ethyl acetate and methanol extracts of Acacia concinna（***）,Cassia siamea（***）.Conundrum sativum（C. sativum）,Cuminum cyminum（***）,Lantana camma（***）,Nelumbo nucifera （***） Phyllanlhus amarus（***）.Piper nigrum（***） and Trachyspermum ammi（***） against Anopheles stephensi（***） and Culex quinquefasciatus（Cx. quinquefasciatus）.Methods:The larvicidal activity of medicinal plant extracts were tested against earl) fourth-instar larvae of malaria and filariasis *** mortality was observed 24 h and 48 h after treatment,data were subjected to probit analysis to determine the lethal concentrations(LC50 and LC90) to kill 50 and 90 per cent of the treated larvae of the tested species. The repellent efficacy was determined against two mosquito species at five concentrations（31.25. 62.***.125.00.250.00,and 500.00 ppm） under the laboratory ***:All plant extracts showed moderate effects after 24 h and 48 h of exposure;however,the highest activity was observed after 24 h in the leaf methanol extract ol *** ethyl acetate and methanol extract of *** against the larvae of ***(LC50 = 34.***.24.54 and 30.20 ppm) and against ***(LC50= 37.***.43.94 and 57.39 ppm),*** toxic effect of leaf methanol extract of ***,seed methanol extract of ***,leaf ethyl acetate extract of *** ethyl acetate and methanol extract of *** and seed methanol extract of *** were showed 100%mortality against *** and *** alter 48 h *** maximum repellent activity was observed at 500 ppm in methanol extracts of N. *** acetate and methanol extract of *** and methanol extract of *** and the mean complete protection time ranged from 30 to 150 min with the different extracts tested. Objective:To assess the acaricidal activity of titanium dioxide nanoparticles(TiO_2 NPs)synthesized from flower aqueous extract of Calotropis gigantea(***)against the larvae of Rhipicephalus(Boophilus)microplus[R.(B.)microplus]and the adult of Haemaphrysalis bispinosa(***).Methods:The lyophilized *** flower aqueous extract of 50 mg was added with 100 mL of TiO(OH_2)(10 mM)and magnetically stirred for 6 *** TiO_2 NPs were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD).Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),Scanning electron microscopy(SEM),and Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDX).The synthesised TiO_2 NPs were tested against the larvae of R(B.)microplus and adult of *** were exposed to filter paper impregnated ***:XRD confirmed the crystalline nature of the nanoparticles with the mean size of 10.52 *** functional groups for synthesized TiO_2NPs were 1405.19,and 1053.45 cm^(-1)for-NH_2 bending,primary amines and amides and 1053.84and 1078.45 cm^(-1)for *** micrographs of the synthesized TiO_2 NPs showed the aggregated and spherical in *** maximum efficacy was observed in the aqueous flower extract of *** and synthesized TiO_2 NPs against R.(B.)microplus(LC_(50)=24.63 and 5.43 mg/L and r^2=0.960 and 0.988)and against ***(LC_(50)=35.22 and 9.15 mg/L and r^2=0.969 and 0.969).***:The synthesized TiO_2 NPs were highly stable and had significant acaricidal activity against the larvae of R.(B.)microplus and adult of *** study provides the first report of synthesized TiO_2 NPs and possessed excellent anti-parasitic activity.

This work proposes a hybrid approach for solving traditional flowshop scheduling problems to reduce the makespan （total completion time）. To solve scheduling problems, a combination of Decision Tree （DT） and Scatter Search （SS） algorithms are used. Initially, the DT is used to generate a seed solution which is then given input to the SS to obtain optimal / near optimal solutions of makespan. The DT used the entropy function to convert the given problem into a tree structured format / set of rules. The SS provides an extensive investigation of the search space through diversification. The advantages of both DT and SS are used to form a hybrid approach. The proposed algorithm is tested with various benchmark datasets available for flowshop scheduling. The statistical results prove that the proposed method is competent and efficient for solving flowshop problems.

Characterization of carbon black modified by maleic acid

We present here a method for modifying the surface of carbon black （CB） using a simple heat treatment in the presence of a carboxylic acid as well as water or ethylene glycol as a solvent. CB was mixed with maleic acid and either water or ethylene glycol, and heated at 250℃. Unlike the traditional surface modification processes which use heat treatment of carbon with mineral acids the present modification method using a carboxylic acid proved to be simple and time efficient. CB from two different vendors was used, and the modified samples were characterized by TGA, BET surface area measurement, XRD, particle size and zeta potential measurements, and FTIR. It was found that several material properties, including thermal stability and surface area, of the modified CB are significantly altered relative to the parental carbon samples. This method provides a rapid and simple route to tailor new materials with desired properties.

Enhancing sintering resistance of atomically dispersed catalysts in reducing environments with organic monolayers

Atomically dispersed precious metal catalysts maximize atom efficiency and exhibit unique ***,they are susceptible to *** reactions occurring in reducing environments tend to result in atomically dispersed metals sintering at lower temperatures than in oxidative or inert atmospheres due to the formation of mobile metal-H or metal-CO ***,we develop a new approach to mitigate sintering of oxide supported atomically dispersed metals in a reducing atmosphere using organophosphonate self-assembled monolayers(SAMs).We demonstrate this for the case of atomically dispersed Rh on Al_(2)O_(3) and TiO_(2) using a combination of CO probe molecule FTIR,temperature programmed desorption,and alkene hydrogenation rate *** suggests that SAM functionalization of the oxide provides physical diffusion barriers for the metal and weakens the interactions between the reducing gas and metal,thereby discouraging the adsorbate-promoted diffusion of metal atoms on oxide *** results show that support functionalization by organic species can provide improved resistance to sintering of atomically dispersed metals with maintained catalytic reactivity.

Computer-Assisted Real-Time Rice Variety Learning Using Deep Learning Network

Due to the inconsistency of rice variety,agricultural industry faces an important challenge of rice grading and classification by the traditional grading *** existing grading system is manual,which introduces stress and strain to humans due to visual *** rice grading system development has been proposed as a promising research area in computer *** this study,an accurate deep learning-based non-contact and cost-effective rice grading system was developed by rice appearance and *** proposed system provided real-time processing by using a NI-myRIO with a high-resolution camera and user *** firstly trained the network by a rice public dataset to extract rice discriminative ***,by using transfer learning,the pre-trained network was used to locate the region by extracting a feature *** proposed deep learning model was tested using two public standard datasets and a prototype real-time scanning *** AlexNet architecture,we obtained an average accuracy of 98.2%with 97.6%sensitivity and 96.4%*** validate the real-time performance of proposed rice grading classification system,various performance indices were calculated and compared with the existing *** simulation and real-time experiment evaluations confirmed the robustness and reliability of the proposed rice grading system.

Influence of deposition rate on the structural, optical and electrical properties of electron beam evaporated SnO_2 thin films for transparent conducting electrode applications

The role of deposition rate in the structural, optical and electrical properties of SnOthin films deposited by electron beam evaporation method is investigated by varying the deposition powers viz. 50, 75, and 100 *** structural characterization of the films is done by X-ray diffraction(XRD) technique. The surface morphology of the films is studied by scanning electron microscopy(SEM). Rutherford back scattering(RBS) measurements revealed the thickness of the films ranging from 200 nm to 400 and also a change in the concentration of oxygen vacancies which is found to be the maximum in the film deposited at the lowest deposition rate. Optical absorption spectrum is recorded using the UV–V is spectroscopy and the films are found to be transparent in nature. A shift in the absorption edge is observed and is attributed to a different level of allowed energy states in conduction band minimum. The Hall effect and electrical measurements show a variation in the carrier concentrations, mobility and resistivity of the films. In order to explore a better compromise in electrical and optical properties for transparent electrode applications, skin depths calculations are also done to find the optimized values of carrier concentration and mobility.
