The study focused on occupational competencies required by secondary school graduates in palm wine tapping for sustainable income in Enugu State. Four research questions guided the study. Survey research design was adopted. It was carried out in Enugu State. The population for the study was 2,781 registered palm wine tappers. The sample for study was 556 （10%） of palm wine tappers. A random sampling technique was used for the study. A 49 structured competency item questionnaire was used for data collection. Three experts validated the instrument. Cronbach Alphal reliability method was used to determine the internal consistency of the instrument. A reliability coefficient of 0.98 was obtained. 556 copies of the questionnaire were administered to the respondents 541 copies were retrieved and analyzed using mean and standard deviation. The result revealed that 48 competencies were required by secondary school graduates in palm wine tapping occupation for sustainable income in Enugu State. Recommendation was made based on the findings of the study.

近来,在远程移动健康系统或远程医疗方面开展了越来越多的网络传感器研究。在这些应用中分布在人体附近的传感器形成了一个需要重要考虑的无线体感网。有一些关于健康医疗传感器的案例,比如说心电图传感器、脑电图传感器、肌电图传感器、运动传感器、血压传感器、经常来识别和监控人体姿势的加速度传感器、血糖传感器、温度传感器、二氧化碳传感器等等。这些传感器在功能上是不同的,其依赖于观察单个人体传感器节点变化的健康问题。这些传感器与网关能够以一个星型拓扑结构或者簇进行通信。与现有的技术来比较,例如无线局域网,体域网能够在人体内部或周围利用复杂的普遍的无线计算设备来实现无线通信。基于体感网的医疗监控系统的一般结构组成的人体传感器,能把数据送到附近的私人服务器上例如掌上电脑,然后通过蓝牙或者无线局域网连接远程的医生网站从而进行医疗诊断或者根据访问的医疗数据库或相应的设备来给出相应的警告。在这个网络中的的研究热点问题包括路由协议的可靠性和能源效率。可靠性是非常重要的因为大部分的关键性质的数据有人的医疗健康信息并且这些信息是不能被干扰的。还有一点是能源效率因为特别是在人体内部传感器系统中通常对于维修传感器的寿命很困难。在这篇论文中我们分析了三种突出的路由协议AODV, DSR和DSDV,这些是基于对人体内部通信使用IEEE802.15.4MAC协议的无线体感网的关键特征。虽然蓝牙在短距离通信的无线协议里比较流行,但是体域网需要的是支持网状网络、低延时通信、安全和低功率工作周期的协议。在这个实验中,包的传输效率和端到端的平均延时是用来衡量数据包的可靠性和能源节省的效率,同时还要考虑节点的移动性、网络通信的区域和节点的数量。由实验分析可知,AODV和DSR协议有很好的可靠性,但是由于它的高级路由表,DSDV的性能非常差有超过90%的丢包率。此外,在能源节省的效率方面,DSR和AODV差不多,但DSDV的性能相对来说更加差一点。最后,特别是在生活中的紧急情况下和在网络性能差的情况下保证分组传递,我建议对有优先权的基于路由的AODV使用预定义偏好标签来提高服务质量。

Challenges and Coping Strategies Adopted by Postgraduate Students of Agricultural Education in Thesis Writing in Nigerian Universities

The study investigated challenges encountered and coping strategies adopted by postgraduate students of agricultural education in writing thesis in Nigerian universities. Two research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. The study was conducted in Nigerian universities offering post-graduate programme in agricultural education. The population for the study was 118 made up of 14 postgraduate diploma, 66 masters and 38 doctoral students writing thesis in agricultural education. The entire population was involved in the study. An instrument tilted: Challenges and Coping Strategies Questionnaire (CCSQ) was used for data collection. Three experts validated the questionnaire. Cronbach alpha reliability method was used to determine the internal consistency of the questionnaire. A reliability coefficient of 0.85 was obtained. A total of 97 copies of the questionnaire were returned representing 93 percent return rate. Data collected for the study were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions while Analysis of Variance was used to test hypothesis of no significant difference at P ≤ 0.05 level of significance. The statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) was the tool employed to analyze the data collected. It was found out that 28 challenges were encountered by postgraduate students of agricultural education in thesis writing while 15 coping strategies were adopted by postgraduate students of agricultural education in thesis writing. The recommendations were that postgraduate students of agricultural education who have abandoned their thesis writing should adopt the identified coping strategies to complete their programme among others.

A transition diagram is used to describe the behavior of systems. Birth-death equations were derived from transition diagram depicting the state of the birth-death processes. Queue models and characteristics of queue models are also derivable from birth-death processes. These queue models consist of mathematical formulas and relationships that can be used to determine the operating characteristics （performance measures） for a waiting line. Schematic and transition diagrams of different single server queue models were shown. Relationships between birth-death processes, waiting lines （queues） and transition diagrams were given. While M/M/I/K queue model states was limited by K customers and had （K＋I） states, M/M/1/1 queue model had only two states. M/G/1/∝/∝ and M/M/1/∝/∝ shared similar characteristics. Many ideal queuing situations employ M/M/1 queueing model.

The outbreak of COVID-19 caused human activities to be affected in one way or *** a result,measures were put in place by various national governments to reduce the spread of the *** paper examines adherence to COVID-19 guidelines in Nigeria among itinerant traders,using a total of 40 eligible participants from selected local governments in Enugu state,*** study adapted purposive sampling techniques to identify eligible participants;while in-depth interview was the method used for data *** other findings,result shows that the control measures rolled out by government were seriously *** traders,driven by economic gains,played covert role in the spread of the *** signalled a weak link in the efforts to curb the spread of the virus in *** study contributes to a more exact diagnosis of the weak link in the efforts to contain the spread of the virus and how the quest for economic gains drove the abuse of COVID-19 mitigation protocols with its attendant health *** therefore recommends that government should strengthen the institutional capacity for detection and control,and provide the critical infrastructural facilities that will make for intensified surveillance in future epidemic or pandemic *** incentives and the effective monitoring of protocol enforcers saddled with the responsibility of enforcing government directives are also encouraged in order to curb compromise.

This study aims to ascertain the extent of the cocoa stem borer Eulophonotus myrmeleon distribution, outbreak, and damage to the cocoa plantations in six cocoa growing states in Nigeria. Three local government areas were selected from each of the six major cocoa states and three farms from each local government area. In each farm, 100 cocoa trees were randomly selected and inspected for symptoms and damages of E. myrmeleon. The result revealed that E. myrmeleon infestation has increased significantly (p = 0.01, df = 1, F = 41.77) in 2019 by 10% from the 2014 inspection. It also showed that the infestation level was significantly different from state to state. Symptoms of infestation include presence of entry/exit holes, woody exudates around the trees, yellowing and browning of the leaves. Damages caused by E. myrmeleon infestation are, loses of pod on the affected branch and tree and death of tree. Field observations showed clearly that stem borer is now becoming a serious problem and limiting considerably the production of cocoa in the region. It is time to give more attention to the biology and management of the pest. This is the first report detailing the symptoms and damage done by cocoa stem borers in Nigeria.

Background: Universal health coverage implies access to key promoting, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative health interventions for all at an affordable cost, thereby achieving equity in access and service. The mentally-ill belongs to a vulnerable group that has not been given adequate attention especially in the south-eastern part of Nigeria. In September 2015, a health summit was organized in Enugu, South-East Nigeria with the sole aim of strategizing towards achieving universal health coverage in the zone. From all indications, much of the efforts being made towards achieving universal health coverage in the zone are geared towards physical conditions with mental disorders being grossly neglected. Purpose: This position paper briefly highlights the burden of mental disorders in South-East Nigeria;brings to fore the numerous challenges/barriers to effective mental health service delivery in the area;and calls for a positive change before a meaningful health coverage can be achieved in the zone (and by extension in the country). Findings: The burden of mental disorders in south-east Nigeria is heavy. Enormous barriers to mental health services in the area range from ignorance and stigmatization to self-marginalization by the unwillingness of many concerned leaders or hospital chief executives in the area to appreciate mental health and employ or increase the number of mental health professionals. Recommendations: All the stakeholders, from policy makers to consumers should wake up, recognize mental health as an indispensable part of health and take urgent and necessary measures that would ensure the promotion of mental health, prevention and treatment of mental disorders, and appropriate rehabilitation of those with mental illnesses in the zone.

Economic Growth, Governance and CO2 Emissions in West Africa

Despite being the regions with the least levels of carbon emissions in the world, African countries are facing unique challenges on climate change, increased carbon emission levels and the need for environmental governance improvement. This study, therefore, examined the implications of economic growth and governance on CO2emissions in West Africa. Specifically, the study investigated the role of governance in moderating the effect of economic growth on CO2emissions in West Africa. The study utilized data for 16 West African countries from 2000 to 2020 in an unbalanced panel data framework. Empirical analyses were conducted using the Instrumental Variable Fixed Effects estimator with Driscoll and Kraay Standard Errors, as well as the Instrumental Variable Quantile Regression in order to account for serial correlation, endogeneity and conditional heteroskedasticity. The following conclusions were drawn from the results. First,economic growth significantly increases CO2emissions in the region with the Environmental Kuznet Curve hypothesis present. Second, the quantile regression estimates reveal that the effect of economic growth on CO2emissions is higher in countries where the initial level of carbon emissions is considerably high. Third, the results further show that in the presence of improved governance quality, economic growth does not significantly influence CO2emissions in the region. Fourth, political stability and regulatory quality were the only indicators of governance that significantly impacted environmental pollution in the region. Finally, we found that other factors such as trade, urbanization, and renewable energy also significantly influenced CO2emissions in the region. The study concludes by highlighting the importance of governance in moderating the effect of economic growth on CO2emissions, as well as the importance of heterogeneous analysis for understanding the dynamism in economic relationships.

Status and Prospects of Certification Procedure of Novel Pesticides against Major Cocoa Pests Sahlbergella Sngularis and Phytophthora Megakarya in Nigeria

Sahlbergella singularis （brown cocoa mirid） is responsible for over 30% yield loss of cocoa, while Phytophthora megakarya （causal organism of black pod disease） causes between 70-100% yield loss of cocoa in Nigeria. In all the Nigerian cocoa agroecological zones, the use of pesticides still remains an important component among the strategies for effective control of major insect pests and diseases of cocoa. The Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria （CRIN）, has the national mandate to evaluate and recommend novel pesticides from various groups that fall within the European-Union standards for use on cocoa farms in Nigeria. Such pesticides usually undergo rigorous testing spanning over 3 years to determine correct dose necessary to produce toxic reactions to the targeted pests without any adverse effects on the environment, man and non-target organisms. The screening exercise for candidate pesticides starts with confirmatory test of the constituent active ingredient, laboratory bioassay, phytotoxicity test, first, second and third year field evaluation and residue analysis of beans harvested from the treated plots. This paper critically examines these standard procedures, which must be followed judiciously for novel pesticides certification and recommendation for use in Nigeria.
