Transcatheter arterial embolization as treatment of upper nonvariceal gastrointestinal bleeding is increasingly being used after failed primary endoscopic *** results after embolization have become better and surgery still has a high *** is a safe and effective procedure,but its use is has been limited because of relatively high rates of rebleeding and high mortality,both of which are associated with gastrointestinal bleeding and non-gastrointestinal related mortality *** arterial embolization is a valuable minimal invasive method in the treatment of early rebleeding and does not involve a high risk of treatment associated complications.A multidisciplinary approach is necessary in the treatment of these patients and should comprise gastroenterologists,interventional radiologists,anaesthesiologists,and surgeons to achieve the best possible results.

The past 50 years witnessed steadily increasing pressures to reduce animal testing in assessing the safety of chemicals and ***,the major concerns were ethical due to the large numbers of animals used in these *** European Union(EU) has maintained this strong emphasis on ethics,enacting reduction/elimination of animals for much toxicity testing into *** North America, there was a realization that a regulatory system layering in-life study on in-life study was costly,expensive and slow:there were too many chemicals requiring testing and too few resources to get the testing *** US Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) proactively developed plans for increased use of computational and molecular/cellular technologies in their computational toxicology framework paper in 2004.A US National Academy of Sciences(NAS) committee in 2007 then recommended a new testing strategy that would require only in vitro test *** past 5 to 6 years has seen the completion of early phases of high throughput(HT) screening,appearance of new methods for comparing in vitro bioactivity results with anticipated human exposures,and a flurry of activity-research,scientific meetings, and product commercialization-to hasten change from in life *** talk emphasizes a group of initiatives to make in vitro test results sufficient for safety assessment and notes some of the looming challenges. To investigate the effect of a low-FODMAP diet on irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)-like symptoms in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).METHODSThis was a randomised controlled open-label trial of patients with IBD in remission or with mild-to-moderate disease and coexisting IBS-like symptoms (Rome III) randomly assigned to a Low-FODMAP diet (LFD) or a normal diet (ND) for 6 wk between June 2012 and December 2013. Patients completed the IBS symptom severity system (IBS-SSS) and short IBD quality of life questionnaire (SIBDQ) at weeks 0 and 6. The primary end-point was response rates (at least 50-point reduction) in IBS-SSS at week 6 between groups; secondary end-point was the impact on quality of ***-nine patients, 67 (75%) women, median age 40, range 20-70 years were randomised: 44 to LFD group and 45 to ND, from which 78 patients completed the study period and were included in the final analysis (37 LFD and 41 ND). There was a significantly larger proportion of responders in the LFD group (n = 30, 81%) than in the ND group (n = 19, 46%); (OR = 5.30; 95%CI: 1.81-15.55, P < 0.01). At week 6, the LFD group showed a significantly lower median IBS-SSS (median 115; inter-quartile range [IQR] 33-169) than ND group (median 170, IQR 91-288), P = 0.02. Furthermore, the LFD group had a significantly greater increase in SIBDQ (median 60, IQR 51-65) than the ND group (median 50, IQR 39-60), P < *** a prospective study, a low-FODMAP diet reduced IBS-like symptoms and increased quality of life in patients with IBD in remission.

Middle to Late Jurassic belemnites from the Spiti and Zanskar valleys in the Indian Himalayas were used for stable isotope(δ^(13)C, δ^(18)O) and element(Mg/Ca, Sr/Ca) analyses. Although the Himalayan orogeny deformed and altered a large portion of the collected fossils, cathodoluminescence and scanning electron microscopy in combination with analyses of iron and manganese contents allowed the identification of belemnites believed to still retain their original chemical composition. Results indicate a long-term temperature decrease from the Middle Callovian–Oxfordian to the Tithonian, which is proposed to have been caused by a concomitant drift of eastern Gondwana into higher palaeolatitudes. Reconstructed absolute temperatures depend on the used equation and assumed δ^(18)O value of seawater, but most likely varied between 17.6 ℃ to 27.6℃ in the Kimmeridgian and Tithonian with average values between 22 ℃ to 24 ℃. This way, temperatures were similar to slightly warmer than today at comparable latitudes. The reconstruction of absolute temperatures for the Middle Callovian–Oxfordian was hindered by a larger number of poorly preserved belemnites representing this time interval.
