Salinity is one of the major abiotic factors that limit the growth and productivity of *** application of plant growth regulators(PGRs)may help plants ameliorate the negative impacts of ***,a field experiment was conducted at the Botanical Garden University of Balochistan,Quetta,to explore the potential role of PGRs,i.e.,moringa leaf extract(MLE;10%),proline(PRO;1μM),salicylic acid(SA;250μM),and thiourea(TU;10 mM)in ameliorating the impacts of salinity(120 mM)on Plantago ovata,an important medicinal *** hampered plant photosynthetic pigments and metabolites but elevated oxidative ***,foliar application of PGRs enhanced photosynthetic pigments,including Chl b(21.11%),carotenoids(57.87%)except Chl a,activated the defense mechanisms by restoring and enhancing the metabolites,i.e.,soluble sugars(49.68%),soluble phenolics(33.34%),and proline(31.47%),significantly under salinity ***,foliar supplementation of PGRs under salt stress led to a decrease of about 43.02%and 43.27%in hydrogen peroxide and malondialdehyde content,***,PGRs can be recommended for improved photosynthetic efficiency and metabolite content that can help to get better yield under salt stress,with the best and most effective treatments being those of PRO and MLE to predominately ameliorate the harsh impacts of salinity.

Slaughterhouse workers(SHW) are at increased risk of hepatitis which can occur due to different organisms and should be investigated for viral, bacterial, and parasitic organisms. Slaughter house personnel including butchers are at a higher risk of infections from cuts and blood-letting, with the possible risk of the transmission of blood-borne pathogens to their colleagues. The objective of this review is to evaluate the common etiologies of hepatitis in SHW which will assist in the assessment of these patients presenting with transaminitis. Types of Microorganisms causing hepatitis with their reservoirs, routes of transmission,laboratory diagnosis, clinical features, treatment options and preventive strategies are included in this review. Proper investigation and awareness is of utmost importance as it causes significant financial constraints derived from workers health cost and from livestock production losses when the disease is confirmed. The work up is essential because infected workers might be a source of infections to other colleagues, family and the consumers.

Dendritic cells(DCs) play a pivotal role to amplify antigen-specific immune *** that sensitize T cells via antigen-presentation by DCs could enhance the capacity of host immunity to fight *** this study,we tested the immunogenic profiles of chicken DCs towards Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase from Eimeria acervulina(EaGAPDH).Immunoblot analysis showed that recombinant EaGAPDH(rEaGAPDH) protein was successfully recognized by rat sera generated against *** and internalisation of rEaGAPDH by chicken splenic-derived DCs(chSPDCs) was confirmed by immunofluorescence *** cytometry revealed that chSPDCs upregulated MHCII,CD 1.1,CD11 c,CD80,and CD86 cell-surface ***,mRNA expressions of DC maturation biomarkers(CCL5,CCR7,and CD83) and TLR signalling genes(TLR15 and MyD88) were also upregulated whereas those of Wnt signalling were non-significant compared to negative *** treatment induced IL-12 and IFN-γ secretion in chSPDCs but had no effect on IL-10 and TGF-β.Likewise,DC-T cell co-culture promoted IFN-γ secretion and the level of IL-4 was *** of T cells and their differentiation into CD3+/CD4+T cells were triggered in chSPDCs-T cells co-culture *** together,rEaGAPDH could promote Th1 polarization by activating both host DCs and T cells and sheds new light on the role of this important molecule which might contribute to the development of new DCs-based immunotherapeutic strategies against coccidiosis.

An Assessment of the Groundwater Potential of Bayero University Kano Permanent Site Using Induced Polarization and Self-potential Methods

This paper centers on the investigation of the subsurface condition of Bayero University Kano Permanent Site with the aim of understanding the lithology and also mapping out the groundwater patterns within the area. To achieve this, time domain IP （induced polarization） and SP （self-potential） methods were adopted using VES （vertical electrical sounding） technique with 49 stations sounded. The result of the interpreted and analyzed measured data shows that the area is underlain by two to five subsurface layers. These layers are top soil, laterite, weathered basement complex rocks, fractured basement complex rocks and fresh basement complex rocks. The aquiferous zone of the study area occurs in the weathered and fractured basements and its thickness ranges from 1.44 m to 70.157 m while the overburden thickness lies between 1.6 m and 72.104 m. SP values were plotted against depths of investigation in order to identify areas with greater depth of flow in the study area. From the analysis of the overburden thickness, aquifer thickness and SP values, the most favorable regions for groundwater exploitation were found around VES 6, 11, 13, 19, 26, 38, 44 and 48. The investigation also provides information about the subsurface condition with regards to engineering construction and safe place for refuse dumping in order to avoid groundwater contamination.

Modeling of Objects Using Conic Splines

This paper contributes towards modeling for the designing of objects in the areas of Computer Graphics (CG), Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM), and Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE). It provides a modeling technique for the designing of objects. The model is based on a conic-like curve (rational quadratics) method and provides an extra degree of freedom to the user to fine tune the shape of the design to the satisfactory level. The 2D curve model has then been extended for the designing of 3D objects to produce fancy objects. The scheme has been also extended to automate the degree of freedom when a reverse engineering is required for images of the objects. A heuristic technique of genetic algorithm is applied to find optimal values of shape parameters in the description of conics.

Improved Anticancer Effects on Various Cancers with Combinations of Chemotherapeutic Drugs or Vitamin C and D-Fraction

Although chemotherapy is one of several therapeutic options for cancer patients, the outcomes have been less satisfactory with palpable side effects in many cases. To help improve the efficacy of chemotherapy, we examined whether D-fraction (DF), a bioactive mushroom extract, would potentiate anticancer effects of those drugs in vitro. Seven types of cancer cell lines, including breast, lung, stomach, colon, prostate, bladder, and kidney cancers, were tested with various chemotherapeutic drugs and their combinations with DF. Compared to individual drugs alone, combinations of those drugs and DF have indeed improved anticancer activity, resulting in the significant (p 0.05) cell viability reduction in all cancer cells. As vitamin C (VC) has been insinuated to potentiate bioactivity of DF, combination of DF (300 μg/ml) and VC (200 μM) was also examined. Such studies showed that DF/VC combination led to the drastic (≥90%) viability reductions in 6 cancer cells and the 70% reduction in 1 cancer cell type. These results were superior to those from combinations of drugs and DF. To assess if such a profound cell viability reduction by DF/VC combination might be attributed to apoptosis, this possibility was tested by Western blots. Analyses revealed that anti-apoptotic bcl-2 was down-regulated while pro-apoptotic Bax was up-regulated with DF/VC combination, indicating induction of apoptosis. It is plausible that DF/VC combination may induce apoptosis, resulting in the severe cell viability reduction. Therefore, DF may have a great potential as an adjuvant agent that can be combined with chemotherapeutic drugs or with VC for the improved treatment of various human malignancies.

Here,we introduce the first experimental proof of coherent oscillation and coupling of photoswitchable molecules embedded randomly in a polymeric matrix and acting cooperatively upon illumination with UV *** particular,we demonstrate the specular reflection and Brewster phenomenon alteration of photochromic molecular dipole *** successfully demonstrate the concept of Brewster wavelength,which is based on the dipolar interaction between radiating dipoles and the surrounding matrix possessing a net dipole moment,as a key tool for highly localized sensing of matrix *** also introduce the concept of‘tailored molecular photonic coupling’while highlighting the role of interferences for the design of optically active media by adjusting the photonic response of the medium with the real and imaginary refractive index of photoswitchable molecules in the‘ON’*** results enhance our fundamental understanding of coherent dipole radiation and open a new vein of research based on glassy disordered dipolar composites that act as macroscopic antenna with cooperative action;furthermore,these results have important implications for new design rules of tailored photonics.

Design Consideration for Additive Manufacturing: Fused Deposition Modelling

Additive Manufacturing (AM) technologies have progressed in the past few years and many of them are now capable of producing functional parts instead of mere prototypes. AM provides a multitude of benefits, especially in design freedom. However, it still lacks industrial relevance because of the absence of comprehensive design rules for AM. Although AM is usually advertised as being the solution for all traditional manufacturing design limitations, the fact is that AM only replaces these limitations with a different set of restrictions. To fully exploit the advantages of AM, it is necessary to understand these limitations and consider them early during the design process. The establishment of design considerations in AM enables parts and process optimization. This paper discusses the design considerations that will lead to optimize part quality. Specifically, the work discusses the Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) due to its common use and availability. These considerations are drawn from literature and from experiments done by the authors. The experiments done by the authors include an investigation for the influence of elevated service temperature on the performance of FDM PLA parts, benchmarking the capability of FDM to print overhangs and bridges without supports, studying the influence of processing parameters over dimensional accuracy, and the effect of processing parameters on the final FDM samples modulus of elasticity. The work presents a case study investigating the correct clearances for FDM parts and finally a redesign for AM case study of a support bracket originally manufactured using traditional manufacturing methods taking into consideration the design considerations discussed in this paper.

Morpho-Anatomical Changes in Roots of Chickpea （Cicer arietinum L.） under Drought Stress Condition

Chickpea （Cicer arietinum L.） is a crop cultivated in semi-arid and rainfed areas of Pakistan and it experiences terminal drought stress. In this paper, the morpho-anatomical study regarding roots of chickpea was carried out to investigate the drought adaptation strategies. Twelve cultivars of chickpea were grown in pots under drought stress of 70% and 35% field capacity in addition to control （100%）. Root segments of mature chickpea plants were sectioned in 2 cm from root-shoot junction and used for making transverse sections. The development of sleeve and stele tissues and their proportion were markedly influenced by moisture availability to the root system. Roots length, flesh and dry weight, and number of secondary roots were decreased under field capacity of 70% and 35% as compared to control in 12 cultivars of chickpea. Root epidermis and cortex of CH47/04 consisted of cells with thickened walls and with 2-3 cell layers of sclerenchymatous cells below the epidermis. Increased number of medullary rays and high vascular region was observed in cultivars CH120/04, CH47/04, CH587/05 and CH87/02. Anatomical studies showed that CH47/04 was highly tolerant among 12 cultivars of chickpea, while CH587/05 and CH87/02 behaved moderately under both levels of drought stress （70% and 35% field capacity）.

Improving ICU Nurses’ Practices of Physical Restraints in Jordan: Effect of an Educational Program

Background: Physical Restraint (PR) has been widely used in the intensive care units, which aims to protect patients and maintain their safety. With all benefits of PR, there are many complications and risks from improper utilization. Further, no Jordanian studies have found to educate nurses regarding the proper PR utilization. Purpose: To evaluate the impact of an educational program on nurses’ knowledge, attitude and practice regarding PR use in ICUs. Methods: A pre-experiment with one-group pretest-posttest design was used among 40 ICU nurses. A self-administered questionnaire was used to evaluate nurses before the education program and two weeks after its completion. Results: After implementation of the program, nurses demonstrated a significant difference in knowledge scores between pretest (M = 10.35 ± 1.73) and posttest (M = 13.30 ± 1.47) (t = 9.92;df = 39;P = 0.000), attitudes scores (M = 27.90 ± 2.79 vs. M = 30.40 ± 2.32) (t = 4.61;df = 39;P = 0.000), and practice scores (M = 36.85 ± 1.98 vs. M = 40.52 ± 1.60) (t = 11.59;df = 39;P = 0.000). Conclusion: Service-education program can improve ICU nurses’ knowledge, and enhance their attitudes and practices towards physical restraint. Such improvement is expected to be reflected in improving the quality of care delivered to the patients, and decreasing complications of malpractice regarding physical restraint.
