Evaluation of hydro-chemistry in a phreatic aquifer in the Vindhyan Region, India, using entropy weighted approach and geochemical modelling

Groundwater quality monitoring and geochemical characterization in the phreatic aquifer are critical for ensuring universal and equitable access to clean,reliable,and inexpensive drinking water for all.This research was intended to investigate the hydrogeochemical attributes and mechanisms regulating the chemistry of groundwater as well as to assess spatial variation in groundwater quality in Satna district,India.To accomplish this,the groundwater data comprising 13 physio-chemical parameters from thirty-eight phreatic aquifer locations were analysed for May 2020 by combining entropy-weighted water quality index(EWQI),multivariate statistics,geochemical modelling,and geographical information system.The findings revealed that the groundwater is fresh and slightly alkaline.Hardness was a significant concern as 57.89% of samples were beyond the permissible limit of the World Health Organisation.The dominance of ions were in the order of Ca^(2+)> Na^(+)> Mg^(2+)> K^(+) and HCO_(3)^(-)> SO_(4)^(2-)> Cl^-> NO_(3)^(-)> F^(-).Higher concentration of these ions is mainly concentrated in the northeast and eastern regions.Pearson correlation analysis and principal component analysis(PCA) demonstrated that both natural and human factors regulate groundwater chemistry in the region.The analysis of Q-mode agglomerative hierarchical clustering highlighted three significant water clusters.Ca-HCO_3 was the most prevalent hydro-chemical facies in all three clusters.Geochemical modelling through various conventional plots indicated that groundwater chemistry in the research region is influenced by the dissolution of calcite/dolomite,reverse ion exchange,and by silicate and halite weathering.EWQI data of the study area disclosed that 73.69% of the samples were appropriate for drinking.Due to high salinity,Magnesium(Mg^(2+)),Nitrate(NO_(3)^(-)),and Bicarbonate(HCO_(3)^(-)) concentrations,the north-central and north-eastern regions are particularly susceptible.The findings of the study may be accomplished by policymakers and groundwat

Investigation of structural phase evolution and dielectric response of Co-doped BaTiO_(3)

In the present study,we have synthesized polycrystalline samples of BaTi_(1-x)Co_(x)O_(3)(BTCO)(x=0,0.01,0.03,0.05,0.07 and 0.10)with standard solid state reaction technique.The obtained samples are characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD)and Raman spectroscopy for structural study.The detailed structural analysis has been performed by Rietveld refinement using Fullprof program.We observed an increase in lattice parameters,which results due to substitution of Co2t with large ionic radii(0.9Å)for smaller ionic radii(0.6Å)Ti4t.Moreover,peak at 45.5°shifts to 45°on Co doping,which is due to structure phase transition from tetragonal to cubic.Raman study infers that the intensity of characteristic peaks decreases and line width increases with Co doping.The bands linked with the tetragonal structure(305 cm1)decreased due to the tetragonal-to-cubic phase transition with Co doping.Our structural study reveals the expansion of BTCO unit cell and tetragonal-to-cubic phase transformation takes place.The results from different characterization techniques are conclusive and show structural evolution with Co doping.The samples are further characterized by dielectric spectroscopy,dielectric measurement reveals the increase of dielectric constant and transition T_(c)-125° is observed for Barium titanate(BaTiO3),whereas transition disappears with Co doping.Both temperature and frequency-dependent tangent loss is also studied.

A NEWTON-TYPE GLOBALLY CONVERGENT INTERIOR-POINT METHOD TO SOLVE MULTI-OBJECTIVE OPTIMIZATION PROBLEMS

This paper proposes an interior-point technique for detecting the nondominated points of multi-objective optimization problems using the direction-based cone method.Cone method decomposes the multi-objective optimization problems into a set of single-objective optimization problems.For this set of problems,parametric perturbed KKT conditions are derived.Subsequently,an interior point technique is developed to solve the parametric perturbed KKT conditions.A differentiable merit function is also proposed whose stationary point satisfies the KKT conditions.Under some mild assumptions,the proposed algorithm is shown to be globally convergent.Numerical results of unconstrained and constrained multi-objective optimization test problems are presented.Also,three performance metrics(modified generational distance,hypervolume,inverted generational distance)are used on some test problems to investigate the efficiency of the proposed algorithm.We also compare the results of the proposed algorithm with the results of some other existing popular methods.

Sequential decay analysis of^(235)U(n^(th),f)reaction using fragmentation approach

Numerous experimental and theoretical observations have concluded that the probability of the three fragment emission(ternary fission)or binary fission increases when one proceeds towards the heavy mass region of nuclear periodic table.Many factors affect fragment emission,such as the shell effect,deformation,orientation,and fissility parameter.Binary and ternary fissions are observed for both ground and excited states of the nuclei.The collinear cluster tripartition(CCT)channel of the^(235)U(n^(th),f)reaction is studied,and we observe that the CCT may be a sequential or simultaneous emission phenomenon.To date,different approaches have been introduced to study the CCT process as a simultaneous or sequential process,but the decay dynamics of these modes have not been not fully explored.Identifying the three fragments of the sequential process and exploring their related dynamics using an excitation energy dependent approach would be of further interest.Hence,in this study,we investigate the sequential decay mechanism of the^(235)U(n^(th),f)reaction using quantum mechanical fragmentation theory(QMFT).The decay mechanism is considered in two steps,where initially,the nucleus splits into an asymmetric channel.In the second step,the heavy fragment obtained in the first step divides into two fragments.Stage I analysis is conducted by calculating the fragmentation potential and preformation probability for the spherical and deformed choices of the decaying fragments.The most probable fragment combination of stage I are identified with respect to the dips in the fragmentation structure and the corresponding maxima of the preformation probability(P0).The light fragments of the identified decay channels(obtained in step I)agree closely with the experimentally observed fragments.The excitation energy of the decay channel is calculated using an iteration process.The excitation energy is shared using an excitation energy dependent level density parameter.The obtained excitation energy of the identified heavy fragments is fur

Multi-head neural networks for simulating particle breakage dynamics

The breakage of brittle particulate materials into smaller particles under compressive or impact loads can be modelled as an instantiation of the population balance integro-differential equation.In this paper,the emerging computational science paradigm of physics-informed neural networks is studied for the first time for solving both linear and nonlinear variants of the governing dynamics.Unlike conventional methods,the proposed neural network provides rapid simulations of arbitrarily high resolution in particle size,predicting values on arbitrarily fine grids without the need for model retraining.The network is assigned a simple multi-head architecture tailored to uphold monotonicity of the modelled cumulative distribution function over particle sizes.The method is theoretically analyzed and validated against analytical results before being applied to real-world data of a batch grinding mill.The agreement between laboratory data and numerical simulation encourages the use of physics-informed neural nets for optimal planning and control of industrial comminution processes.

Numerical analysis of moving train induced vibrations on tunnel,surrounding ground and structure

This study is focused on the effect of vibration induced by moving trains in tunnels on the surrounding ground and structures.A three-dimensional finite element model is established for a one-track railway tunnel and an adjacent twelve-storey building frame by using commercial software Midas GTS-NX(2019)and Midas Gen.This study considered the moving load effect of a complete train,which varies with space as well as with time.The effect of factors such as train speed,overburden pressure on the tunnel and variation in soil properties are studied in the time domain.As a result,the variations in horizontal and vertical acceleration for two different sites,i.e.,the free ground surface(without structure)and the area containing the structure,are compared.Also,the displacement pattern of the raft foundation is plotted for different train velocities.At lower speeds,the heaving phenomenon is negligible,but as the speed increases,both the heaving and differential settlement increase in the foundation.This study demonstrates that the effect of moving train vibrations should be considered in the design of new nearby structures and proper ground improvement should be considered for existing structures.

Evaluation of Dielectric Properties of CCTO-BT/Epoxy Composites for Electronic Applications

In the current study,the calcium copper titanate(CCTO)/epoxy,barium titanate(BT)/epoxy and CCTO-BT/epoxy composite samples with variable volume fractions of CCTO and BT are fabricated using hand lay-up and compression moulding process. The composite samples are characterized for the frequency dependence on dielectric properties,conductivity,impedance spectroscopy and electrical modulus.X-ray diffraction(XRD)representation of CCTO-BT/epoxy composite samples confirmed the presence of both CCTO and BT ceramic samples separately. The dielectric characteristics of hybrid CCTO-BT/epoxy composite samples with CCTO∶BT ratio of 40∶60, 60∶40,and 50∶50 was found relatively better than those of single ceramic filler reinforced epoxy composites. AC conductivity analysis shows improvement in the results of hybrid filler-filled CCTO-BT/epoxy composites in comparison with single filler-filled epoxy composite.50∶50 CCTO-BT/epoxy composite shows the best AC conductivity value of~ 2.2 ×10^(-5) ohm^(-1)·m^(-1) at a higher frequency of 1MHz. The impedance analysis confirms the higher insulating properties for hybrid 40∶60 and 60∶40 CCTO-BT/epoxy composites with respect to the single and other hybrid ceramic epoxy composites. The analysis suggests the hybrid CCTO-BT/epoxy composites to be adopted as a potential dielectric material for energy storage devices and other electronic applications.

According to the Scopus database,every year several hundreds of new research papers are published in the field of nanofluids.This area is attracting growing attention because of the significant improvement in the heat transfer and energy efficiency of the systems working with nanofluids.However,as results from numerous scientific studies conducted by independent laboratories,there are several fundamental problems related to the unambiguous determination of their physical properties,their production,and economic use.Although most studies often focus on one issue or cover one kind of research or math-ematical correlation,this review paper provides insights into many problems during nanofluids research by proposing solving possibilities,which is the strength of our work.The paper discusses the case of nanofluids quality,and morphology,thermal conductivity enhancement and the discrepancies in mathematical modelling,errors in dimensional and similarity analysis,nanofluid erosion,safety guide-lines,and toxicology tips.Moreover,the sustainability and economics of nanofluids usage are also being discussed.

Machine learning-enhanced Monte Carlo and subset simulations for advanced risk assessment in transportation infrastructure

The maintenance of safety and dependability in rail and road embankments is of utmost importance in order to facilitate the smooth operation of transportation networks.This study introduces a comprehensive methodology for soil slope stability evaluation,employing Monte Carlo Simulation(MCS)and Subset Simulation(SS)with the"UPSS 3.0 Add-in"in MS-Excel.Focused on an 11.693-meter embankment with a soil slope(inclination ratio of 2H:1V),the investigation considers earthquake coefficients(kh)and pore water pressure ratios(ru)following Indian zoning requirements.The chance of slope failure showed a considerable increase as the Coefficient of Variation(COV),seismic coefficients(kh),and pore water pressure ratios(ru)experienced an escalation.The SS approach showed exceptional efficacy in calculating odds of failure that are notably low.Within computational modeling,the study optimized the worst-case scenario using ANFIS-GA,ANFIS-GWO,ANFIS-PSO,and ANFIS-BBO models.The ANFIS-PSO model exhibits exceptional accuracy(training R2=0.9011,RMSE=0.0549;testing R2=0.8968,RMSE=0.0615),emerging as the most promising.This study highlights the significance of conducting thorough risk assessments and offers practical insights into evaluating and improving the stability of soil slopes in transportation infrastructure.These findings contribute to the enhancement of safety and reliability in real-world situations.

Coumarin and eugenol ameliorate LPS-induced inflammation in RAW 264.7 cells via modulating the NLRP3 inflammasome pathway

Objective:To investigate the underlying mechanism of anti-inflammatory action of coumarin and eugenol in lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells.Methods:RAW 264.7 cells were treated with 2.5μg/mL of LPS,50μM of coumarin,and 50μM eugenol for 24 h.The viability of the cells was assessed using MTT assay.The production of nitric oxide was determined using Griess reagent and DCFH-DA was used to measure the production of reactive oxygen species.The protein expression of NLRP3,IL-1β,NF-κB,and cyclooxygenase 2 was assessed using Western blot analysis.Results:Coumarin and eugenol showed anti-inflammatory effects against LPS-induced inflammatory response by ameliorating the expression of NLRP3 inflammasome and NF-κB,which further led to a subsequent reduction in IL-1β,nitric oxide,and reactive oxygen species.Conclusions:Coumarin and eugenol exert their anti-inflammatory activities by modulating the NLRP3 inflammasome pathway and NF-κB.These compounds may have promising therapeutic applications for the treatment of various inflammatory diseases.
