toxicity of Fusarium solani Strains on Brine Shrimp (Artemia salina)

Discovery of anticancer drugs that must kill or disable tumor cells in the presence of normal cells without undue toxicity is an extraordinary challenge. Cytotoxicity of plant or fungal materials is considered as the presence of antitumor compounds. Brine shrimp lethality for larvae （nauplii） is used as prescreening test for the antitumor compounds. In this study, culture filtrates of eight strains of Fusarium solani isolated from seeds of various crops were tested for the toxic effect on brine shrimp. Five of the strains （tS, S-29, B-17, C-10, W-5） showed highest toxic effect and three of the strains （SR, t-9, L-25） showed low toxic activity on brine shrimp. toxic activity reduced when culture filtrates were diluted. However, F. solani strains tS, B-17, SR, t-9 and L-25 caused more than 30% mortality at 1：10 dilution. toxic activity was slightly reduced when the filtrates were neutralized with sodium hydroxide indicating possible role of pH of culture filtrate on toxicity. Lyophilized filtrates of these strains showed less activity as compared to un-lyophilized filtrates, n-Hexane soluble fraction was obtained only in three strains which showed mild toxicity whereas chloroform soluble fraction was obtained in negligible quantity and could not further be proceeded. toxic effect of these strains showed variation from strain to strain. Compounds from F. solani could be exploited for the development of toxic compounds.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA)is an important pathogen casting dire shadow over global human wellbeing[1].Rising antibiotic resistance in MRSA led to research into plant-derived anti-microbial *** 119 compounds from 90 plants were recognized as potent anti-bacterials[2].Dalbergia odorifera,a traditional Chinese plant,has demonstrated anti-tumor,anti-microbial,anti-inflammatory,and cardiovascular protective effects[3].Limited studies have explored *** flavonoids'inhibitory activity against ***,a high-throughput method,aided in comprehending plant antibacterial therapy by generating data for gene expression,target identification,and pathway analysis[4].Consequently,our study aimed to assess ***'s anti-MRSA effects and reveal its material foundation and antibacterial mechanism by ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time of flight mass spectrometry(UPLC-Q-tOF-MS),and transcriptomic analysis,in vitro,and in-silico studies.

CFD Simulation of Fixed and Variable Pitch Vertical Axis tidal turbine

In this paper, hydrodynamic analysis of vertical axis tidal turbine （both fixed pitch ＆ variable pitch） is numerically analyzed. two-dimensional numerical modeling ＆ simulation of the unsteady flow through the blades of the turbine is performed using ANSYS CFX, hereafter CFX, which is based on a Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes （RANS） model. A transient simulation is done for fixed pitch and variable pitch vertical axis tidal turbine using a Shear Stress transport turbulence （SSt） scheme. Main hydrodynamic parameters like torque t, combined moment CM, coefficients of performance Cp and coefficient of torque Cr, etc. are investigated. the modeling and meshing of turbine rotor is performed in ICEM-CFD. Moreover, the difference in meshing schemes between fixed pitch and variable pitch is also mentioned. Mesh motion option is employed for variable pitch turbine. this article is one part of the ongoing research on tm＇bine design and developments. the numerical simulation results are validated with well reputed analytical results performed by Edinburgh Design Ltd. the article concludes with a parametric study of turbine performance, comparison between fixed and variable pitch operation for a four-bladed turbine. It is found that for variable pitch we get maximum Ce and peak power at smaller revolution per minute N and tip sped ratio 2.

Predictors of distant metastasis in acinic cell carcinoma of the parotid gland

Optimization of Sonication Process for High Newcastle Disease Virus （NDV） titer

Cell disruption focuses on obtaining a desired bioproduct within a cell, and it is the cell wall that must be disrupted to allow access to the contents of the cell. In animal cells, the plasma membrane is the only barrier separating cell contents from the environment. Sound waves from sonication, a mechanical technique for cell disintegration, have been used to disrupt as well as to aggregate cells as a step towards purification of a desired bioproduct. In the present study, an improved sonication process for the high yield of Newcastle disease virus （NDV） propagated in tissue culture was described. DF-I cell was cultured in 25cm^2 t flask. When cells were about 80% confluent, a lentogenic strain of NDV （F strain） was used to infect the cell monolayer. With evident cytopathic effect, cells were subjected to cycles of freeze-thaw before sonicating with varying combinations of amplitude, temperature and time. Cells were sonicated using a water bath Sonicator, Jac Ultrasonic 1505 JEIO tECH 4 KHz. From ANOVA analysis, a significant interaction between sonication time and amplitude was observed. this also corresponds to the highest F value observed.

Chi-Square Distribution: New Derivations and Environmental Application

We describe two new derivations of the chi-square distribution. the first derivation uses the induction method, which requires only a single integral to calculate. the second derivation uses the Laplace transform and requires minimum assumptions. the new derivations are compared with the established derivations, such as by convolution, moment generating function, and Bayesian inference. the chi-square testing has seen many applications to physics and other fields. We describe a unique version of the chi-square test where both the variance and location are tested, which is then applied to environmental data. the chi-square test is used to make a judgment whether a laboratory method is capable of detection of gross alpha and beta radioactivity in drinking water for regulatory monitoring to protect health of population. A case of a failure of the chi-square test and its amelioration are described. the chi-square test is compared to and supplemented by the t-test.

Light-driven dry reforming of methane toward syngas presents a proper solution for alleviating climate change and for the sustainable supply of transportation fuels and ***,Rh/InGaN_(1-x)O_(x) nanowires supported by silicon wafer are explored as an ideal platform for loading Rh nanoparticles,thus assembling a new nanoarchitecture for this grand *** combination with the remarkable photothermal synergy,the O atoms in Rh/InGaN_(1-x)O_(x) can significantly lower the apparent activation energy of dry reforming of methane from 2.96 eV downward to 1.70 *** as-designed Rh/InGaN_(1-x)O_(x) NWs nanoarchitecture thus demonstrates a measurable syngas evolution rate of 180.9 mmol g_(cat)^(-1) h^(-1) with a marked selectivity of 96.3% under concentrated light illumination of 6 W cm^(-2).What is more,a high turnover number(tON)of 4182 mol syngas per mole Rh has been realized after six reuse cycles without obvious activity *** correlative 18O isotope labeling experiments,in-situ irradiated X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(ISI-XPS)and in-situ diffuse reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy characterizations,as well as density functional theory calculations reveal that under light illumination,Rh/InGaN_(1-x)O_(x) NWs facilitate releasing^(*)CH_(3) and H^(+)from CH_(4) by holes,followed by H_(2) evolution from H^(+)reduction with ***,the O atoms in Rh/InGaN_(1-x)O_(x) can directly participate in CO generation by reacting with the ^(*)C species from CH_(4) dehydrogenation and contributes to the coke elimination,in concurrent formation of O *** resultant O vacancies are then replenished by CO_(2),showing an ideal chemical *** work presents a green strategy for syngas production via light-driven dry reforming of methane.

Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy for transitional Cell Carcinoma of the Bladder： A Single Centre Experience

Urothelial cancers usually recur distantly rather than loco-regionally. In patients with pt2 and pt3/pt4 tumors, local recurrence has been observed in 3-4% and 11-16%, respectively, whereas distant failure has occurred in 10-27% and 19-35%, respectively. Despite local therapy most patients with muscle invasive transitional cell carcinoma （tCC） of the bladder die of systemic relapse, indicating a need for effective adjunctive systemic treatment. We determined whether neoadjuvant chemotherapy improved overall survival. this study evaluated the role of neoadjuvant combination chemotherapy with gemcitabine/cisplatin （GC） in improving the outcome of this group of patients. A total of 44 patients （84% Male, 16% Female） with newly diagnosed bladder cancer （t3-4, N0-2, M0） were subjected to initial 3 cycles of GC, then managed according to response. Patients were assessed clinically after each cycle and by Interim Ct scan after 3 cycles of chemotherapy and those who achieved complete or partial response underwent radical cystectomy. We enrolled 63 patients, 19 of whom were found to be ineligible; thus, 44 were assigned to receive neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by surgery. Average size of the largest tumor was greater that 30mm in 77% patients. According to Computed tomographic findings 70% patients belonged to Stage t4A. the overall response rate to GC was 50%, and incomplete response was achieved in 25% whereas 25% patients were lost to follow up. twenty two patients who had complete response, underwent cystectomy and diversion. It was observed that those patients who underwent radical cystectomy with ureterosigmoidostomy had an increased serum creatinine in comparison to patients who had ileal conduit. the size of the effect is modest and combination chemotherapy can be administered safely without adverse outcomes resulting in delayed local therapy. Further efforts to identify the patients most likely to benefit from neoadjuvant therapy are necessary to optimize its us

Optimizing Yield and Nutrients Content in tomato by Vermicompost Application under Greenhouse Conditions

Optimizing yield and nutrients content in crop production is the high time demand of arable farming. Vermicompost furnishes one of the most promising alternatives to costly chemical fertilizer. therefore, a greenhouse experiment was conducted at NARC, Islamabad, to investigate the effect of different levels of vermicompost [having C/N=15/1 and 14 Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR)] on growth, yield and nutrients content in hybrid tomato (National tunnel tomato-04-08) under greenhouse conditions during Rabi 2015. the data revealed that different rates (0.5 t·ha-1, 1 t·ha-1, 1.5 t·ha-1 and 2 t·ha-1) of vermicompost produced varied and significant (P -1) at the application of 2.0 t vermicompost ha-1 followed by 3.226 t·ha-1 where vermicompost was applied @ 1.5 t·ha-1. N, P and K content in tomato fruit and plant increased significantly with the application of increasing levels of vermicompost. the highest content of N (3.7%), P (0.67%), K (5.17%) in tomato fruit and N (3.4%), P (0.32%), K (3.2%) in tomato plant respectively were registered with soil application of vermicompost @ 2.0 t·ha-1. this study confirms that the vermicompost has a tremendous potential of plant nutrients supply for sustainable crop production.
