Using Environmentally Friendly h.drogels to Alleviate th. Negative Impact of Drough. on Plant

Th. use of natural h.drogels in agriculture provides solutions to many problems with.ut th.eatening th. environment. Th.s study aims to evaluate th. potential impact of environmentally friendly h.drogels (pectin, starch.and pectin + starch. in reducing th. negative effects of drough. stress on tomato yield and quality. Two different peels (orange peel and banana peel) are used to prepare environmentally friendly h.drogels. Th. water retention efficiency of h.drogels h.s been studied. Greenh.use experiment for tomato under drough. stress was conducted during 2019. Th.se h.drogels were used under several level of irrigation (100%, 75%, and 50% FC), soil with.ut h.drogel was used as a control. Th. results sh.wed th.t th. eco-friendly h.drogels (starch. pectin, and pectin + starch. h.d capacity retention of water for a long time. Th. obtained data from th. greenh.use experiment sh.wed th.t th. eco-friendly h.drogel sh.wed a positive effect on retention of water and increase th. soil moisture content compared to control. Th. h.gh.st increase was observed at pectin + starch.treatment. Th.s increase reach.d to 2.8-, 2.4- and 2.0-fold for 100%, 75% and 50% FC compared to th. control. Eco- friendly h.drogel application under different drough. conditions led to improve yield and quality of tomato fruits. Moreover, conversion of agricultural wastes to h.drogels and th. use of th.se eco-friendly materials instead of synth.tic h.drogels are necessary to utilize th. limited natural resources and decrease th. h.rmful impact of agricultural wastes on th. environment and pave th. way for th. transition to a sustainable agriculture system.

Nanoscience is a development concept in th. field of agriculture. Water scarcity is one of th. most serious stresses th.t restrict growth.of plant. Th.s search.was done to value th. positive and negative influence of ZnO nanoparticles on wh.at plant growth.under drough. stress. A green synth.sis tech.ique was used to produce pollutant-free nano structures. A field experiment was carried out during successive season (2019/2020). NP-Zn-O was applied eith.r by seed-soaking, foliar spraying, or both.togeth.r applications. Th. dose of ZnO NPs was 100 mg/l. Data sh.wed th.t drough. stress reduced th. grain and sh.ot wh.at yield. Th. use of different forms of ZnO improved th. grain and sh.ot wh.at yield, th.se increases reach.d 1.16-, 1.54-fold th.t control. In addition, one of th. oth.r effects of Zn-O-NPs is to increase th. levels of ch.oroph.ll and proline antioxidants in plant tissues, as it is a cofactor for enzymes such.as superoxide dismutase and catalase. Th. data suggest th.t th. role of ZnO NPs is not only to improve plant growth.and ph.siological parameters, but also to improve nutrient uptake and plant nutrient levels. In th.s regard, th. use of zinc in th. form of ZnO NPs h.s a positive effect on reducing th. adverse effects of drough. conditions and improving th. nutritional quality of plants.

Background: Risk strati cation and prognostication of h.patocellular carcinoma (h.C) h.lp to improve patient outcome. h.rein we investigated th. role of liver stiffness measurement (LSM) in th. prediction of h.C beh.vior. Meth.ds: Totally 121 na ve patients with.h.C were included. h.C radiological evaluation and staging were done. LSM was measured using virtual touch.quanti cation. Patients were divided into early to intermediate h.C (BCLC-0, A and B) and late h.C (BCLCC and D). h.C was treated according to th. BCLC stage. h.C recurrence-free interval was estimated. Results: Th. mean LSM inside th. tumor was signi cantly lower th.n th. peri-tumoral area and th. cirrh.tic non-cancerous liver parts (Ph.Cs stage, th. mean LSM inside th. tumor and in th. peri-tumoral tissue was lower th.n th. corresponding values in th. early to intermediate h.Cs stage (Ph. tumor and in th. peri-tumoral tissue negatively correlated with.serum AFP, tumor vascular invasion, and stage (Ph. recurrence-free interval was directly correlated to LSM inside th. tumor and inversely to LSM in cirrh.tic non tumorous liver part. Kaplan-Meier analysis sh.wed th.t th. recurrence-free interval was signi cantly longer in patients with.LSM inside th. tumor of ≥1.25m/s compared to th.se with.LSM inside th. tumor ofh.C clinical beh.vior and th. recurrence-free interval following loco-regional treatments.

AIM: To assess vitamin D in h.patitis C patients and its relationsh.p to interleukin (IL)-23, IL-17, and macroph.ge ch.moattractant protein-1 (MCP-1). METh.DS: Th. study was conducted on 50 Egyptian h.patitis C virus (h.V) genotype number IV-infected patients and 25 age- and gender-match.d h.alth. subjects. Venous blood samples were obtained. Samples were allowed to clot and sera were separated by centrifugation and stored at -20?°C. A 25 h.droxy vitamin D assay was carried out using solid ph.se RIA. A 1,25 dih.droxy vitamin D assay was carried out using a commercial kit purch.sed from Incstar Corporation. IL-17 and -23 and MCP-1 were assayed by an enzyme immunoassay. Quantitative and qualitative polymerase ch.in reaction for h.V virus were done by TaqMan tech.ology. Only h.V genotype IV-infected subjects were included in th. study. Th. mean ± SD were determined, a t-test for comparison of means of different parameters was used. Correlation analysis was done using Pearson’s correlation. Differences among different groups were determined using th. Kruskal-Wallis test. RESULTS: Th. mean vitamin D level in h.V patients (group?I) was 15 ± 5.2 ng/mL wh.le in control (group II) was 39.7 ± 10.8. For active vitamin D in group?I?as 16.6 ± 4.8 ng/mL wh.le in group II was 41.9 ± 7.9. IL-23 was 154 ± 97.8 in group?I?and 6.7 ± 2.17 in group II. IL-17 was 70.7 ± 72.5 in cases and 1.2 ± 0.4 in control. MCP-1 was 1582 ± 794.4 in group?I?and 216.1 ± 5.38 in group II. Vitamin D deficiency affected 72% of h.V-infected patients and 0% of th. control group. Vitamin D insufficiency existed in 28% of h.V-infected patients and 12% of th. control group. One h.ndred percent of th. cirrh.tic patients and 40% of non cirrh.tic h.V-infected patients h.d vitamin D deficiency. IL-23, IL-17, and MCP-1 were markedly increased in h.V-infected patients in comparison to controls.A significant negative correlation between vitamin D and IL-17 and -23 and MCP-1 was detected. h.V-infected males and females

Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a life threatening condition with still high mortality rate in neonates. Early recognition of the risk factors and the rapid effective treatment of the contributing conditions will reduce AKI in the neonatal period. Aim of the Work: To determine association between early caffeine citrate administration and risk of acute kidney injury in hospitalized preterm neonates. Patients and Methods: This study was a prospective study that was conducted at the NICU of El Galaa Teaching Hospital. This study included 100 preterm neonates who were born alive from 32 weeks to 35 weeks of gestation. Results: There was highly statistically significant occurrence of apneaic episode in preterm babies who don’t receive caffeine citrate and consequently decreased incidence of AKI in those babies. Effect of <i>Commiph.ra molmol</i>(Myrrh. Extract on Mice Infected by <i>Giardia lamblia</i>

Objective: To investigate th. efficacy of (Commiph.ra molmol(Myrrh.) extract as alternative treatment in h.msters against giardiasis. Th.s study was conducted to evaluate th. effect of th. new compound (Commiph.ra molmol(Myrrh.), as agent a natural product extracted from th. roots of Zingiber officinal, on Giardia lamblia infection as anti-protozoal and to study th. parasitological and h.stopath.logical impact of th.s treatment on th. duodenal mucosa of infected h.msters. Fifty h.msters were divided into five groups: Group (A): normal control. Group (B): Giardia lamblia infected and untreated h.msters served as control. Group (C): infected with.Giardia lamblia and treated with.metronidazole in dose (120 μg/kg body weigh. twice daily for 7 successive days). Group (D) Giardia lamblia infected and orally treated with.Myrrh.(500 mg/Kg for 1 week). Group (E): Giardia lamblia infected and orally treated with.combination 1/3 dose of (120 μg/kg body weigh.) metronidazole and Myrrh.(250 mg/Kg) for 1 week). After 2 weeks of th. treatment, h.msters were sacrificed. Th. h.gh.st percentages of reduction in th. number of Giardia lamblia cysts and troph.zoites were in th. group receiving combined metronidazole and myrrh. h.stopath.logical examination revealed complete h.aling of intestinal mucosa after th. combined treatment, wh.le partial h.aling of th. lining epith.lium of th. intestine was noticed after metronidazole and eith.r myrrh.plant treatment.

Th.s paper proposes control of maximum power tracking system of tidal current energy system. A permanent magnet synch.onous generator (PMSG) works as a variable speed generator in th. proposed energy system. A controller was applied to ach.eve th. maximum power control of tidal current turbine on a wide range of water current speed ch.nge. A dynamic model and simulation of th. energy system coupled with.current ch.nge are presented. Th. measured DC voltage and DC current are used to determine th. position of maximum power point th.t controls th. DC/DC boost converter duty cycle depending on th. h.ll Climb Search.(h.S) algorith.. Th.s algorith. doesn’t require any information or measurements about current’s speed ch.nge or generator’s ch.racteristics. Prediction of Outcome in Patients with.Guillain Barre Syndrome—An Egyptian Study

Study Objectives: Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) is an acute-onset, monoph.sic immune-mediated disorder of th. periph.ral nervous system th.t often follows an infection. Th. outcome and prognosis of GBS depend on many factors such.as th. etiology, clinical features, neuroph.siology and immunological parameters. Th. aim of th.s study was to assess th. factors (clinical, investigatory tools, and th.rapies) th.t may affect th. outcome of patients with.GBS. Patients and meth.ds: th.s was an analytical observational study th.t was conducted at Ain Sh.ms university h.spitals and Kobri Elkoba Military h.spital including twenty patients with.th. diagnosis of Guillain Barre Syndrome in th. duration from 2016 to 2018. Th.s study included twenty patients with.th. diagnosis of GBS with.n two weeks from onset of neurologic symptoms, wh.m th.ir diagnosis based on th. establish.d clinical criteria and verified by investigations. Patients were selected from both.genders and aged from 18 to 65 years old. Nerve conduction studies and electromyograph. were performed with.n two weeks from admission. Various lines of treatment such.as plasma exch.nge (PE), intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIG) or both.were used during th. period of admission in h.spital. Outcome was assessed by th. h.gh.s functional score (F-score), th.t was applied to th. patients on admission, at end of 4 weeks from onset of neuropath. and at th. end of 8 weeks. Th. final outcome at th. end of 8 weeks was classified as follow: Group I: good prognosis (0 - 2) on th. h.gh.s functional score (15 patients) and Group II: poor prognosis (3 - 6) on th. h.gh.s functional score (5 patients). Results: th. age of th. study population ranged from 18 to 65 years with.mean of 36.10 ± 16.08 years. Fifteen (75%) patients were males and 5 (25%) patients were females.
